View Full Version : Clark Kent & Matches Malone
Mayberry Bat

Getting ready to leave for work and thought I'ld post these. bizzarome brought up the idea for Clark Kent and Matches Malone (Batman in disguise) clix. I'm just trying to bring 'em to life (so to speak). Used retardog's fomula and Enigma's spreadsheet.
I basically designed these with the idea that they had to keep their identities secret.
Clark Kent
Unique
115pts
Superman team ability
Range 6
Arrows 2
No flight (Clark can't get away from people or something)
Speed : 9 9 8 8 8 7 7 7 6
No charge for the reporter of steel. A little force blast as in super breath, something that might not be noticed by everyone around him.
Attack: 9 9 8 7 7 6 6 5 5
A little energy explosion for heat vision, like he was looking over the top of his glasses or something. A the pulse wave could kind of be like super breath, too.
Defense : 15 15 16 15 14 13 12 11 10
Defense is pretty much the same as a rookie Supes. Imp & toughness. Just a little less on the clicks to show his weakness with others around.
Damage: 2 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 1
Perplex is for when everyone like Lois and Perry are trying to figure Clark out. Supes could pull his punches for CCE in his secret indentity.
Matches Malone
Unique
65 pts
Batman team ability
Range 4
Arrow 1
Speed : 9 8 8 7 7 6 6
I gave him stealth because he's in the underground lifestyle as Matches.
Attack: 8 8 7 7 6 6 5
Even as Matches he could incapacitate someone without them realizing how good of a fighter he really is.
Defense: 16 15 14 13 12 11 10
Mastermind because he would be more likely to let someone else take the damage while he's Matches.
Damage: 2 2 2 2 2 1 1
Outwit at the start and end. He would use his brains a lot more because he doesn't have the fear factor of being Batman. But CCE because he could still tangle with people.
Give me some good criticism on these, please.

I like them because they are unique figs...they would play differently than almost anyone else. That's kinda why I like to use my U Joker, because I feel like I have to play totally differently with him. The Matches figure, especially, has potential.
I like them both!
giving bruce stealth is redundant. he's on the batman team.

Nice job on them. That's what I was thinking when we first discussed them in the DC list thread. Very well done, and I would easily find a way to fit them into any army I used. Now I just need to get back into the game, been playng MechWarrior campains too much lately, no time for Heroclix....must rectify that :D

Clark is great, but give him Super Strength near the end.
Matches should have outwit, perplex and close combat expert closer to the beginning.
Maybe something like Perplex, perplex, close combat, CC, OW, OW, PER, OW.
Just to make him more supscious.
Maybe a Steve Rogers would be cool. A lot like Captain America, only no Energy Shield or Ledership. And outwit and toughness sooner, maybe some perplex.

Mayberry Bat, it looks great!! I read a post on the YOU DECIDE the contents of future D.C. expansions V4.0 thread by skyounkin and he had this to say:
A Clark Kent fig with the classic pose of him ripping open his shirt showing the "S" emblem
I think this would be the perfect sculpt for what you have designed. What do you think??

That's the sculpt I was thinking, too. Like the cover of Superman Forever painted by Alex Ross. Maybe Clark has one hand on his glasses right before taking them off and the other hand opening his shirt. And Matches Malone can just be standing there with one hand in his suit pocket and the other hand out like he's giving the thumbs up with a little spark of fire at the end of his thumb to show he just struck a match.

That design for Matches Malone would be the coolest!! I think you really have a great idea with both figures that would go over very well with just about all the Heroclix players "AND" collectors. I wonder if there is a way to get WK's to look at this idea?? I mean after all they have the Logan fig and people really like him so I think these two would be even more popular.
Now I think I understand why "Matches" has one lighting bolt, becasue to use a throwing object, he would have to be very descreate, and he could only attack with reserve for blowing his cover, so he couldn't take on too many at once. But why two lighting bolts on Clark Kent?? Would that be descreat enough??
Just wondering..... But I totally agree with all the other stats.

With Clark, I thought basically he would use his super breath or heat vision. But now that I think about it he has pulse wave to simulate that so it probably should be only one bolt.
And for Matches with the suggestion by aj110 I'ld take off the stealth on the attack, but leave the Batman team ability. Didn't notice it when I first put the stats down.
It doesn't dramatically affect the point totals so I'ld leave them the same.

Perfect!!! Good going Mayberry Bat..... This could really be done with a lot of secret ID's. Peter Parker, Barry Allen, etc... Wouldn't you agree??

Peter Parker would definitely be interesting. I'm still thinking about a way to do John Jones, too.
I think a GL might be interesting (whichever one, I'm not biased.) The GL could make a cool sculpt, too. Who ever it is, is just standing there. One half is in street clothes, the other is the ring changing the other half into the costume.
Maybe a Richard "####" Grayson in his Bludhaven policeman uniform. Being a big Titans freak I'ld like that.
And flatfootedboy already pointed out maybe Steve Rogers.
I think the possibilities could be very interesting.

I know a good one!!! Norman Osborn. He has the super strength and toughness of the Green Goblin, and master mind because of his intellect, but none of the other things you would expect from The Green Goblin. He could be seated in a high back chair with his Goblin Mask hanging on the back of it like from the spiderman movie. Or he could be looking into a full length mirror at a reflection of the Green Goblin.
I liked your GL idea. It would be perfect. But personally, I would like it to be Hal Jordan....

I have to agree that you would have to do a Hal Jordon for the GL. He is by far the best of them all. No Guy's please, I couldn't stand him when I read anything he was in. What a waste of a character IMHO. Kyle Rayner wouldn't be bad either, although he still seems to have the "rookie" characteristics about him that make him less of a legendary hero.
Matches and Clark...I really want WizKids to read this forum, and make those figures. I would definately love to field them, and the idea's are just incredible!
Awesome work on them ideas guys, now to hope that we get to see them in a set.
Mayberry Bat, I also want to compliment you on this relatively innovative idea for new versions of the characters.
What very slick ideas! I've always loved the 'undercover' ideas for some of the biggies.
Less interesting, but still highly collectible might be Matt Cable and Anton Arcane, pre-transformation (from Swamp Thing fame). Matt Cable could be a Gov't spook-type, and Anton as the reasonably expectable Mad Scientist. I'd still like to see Gregori Arcane as the Patchwork Man, but that's another story.
I'm not sure that Alec Holland would work as well, by himself.
Mayberry Bat, what do you think about giving Clark a spot or two of Flurry or Hypersonic Speed, to simulate some of that super-fast sleight-of-hand that he does when no-one innocent is looking?
As for Matches, whaddaya think of a click or two of Shapechange to simulate that 'Waitaminnit, he's just a thug! Who just clocked me like a freight train?' kind of deception that Bats is capable of at times?
Best of luck, and all the fun to y'all.

Juxter like your ideas, too.
It might work to give Clark one click of hypersonic speed. I could see it. He speeds away unnoticed and everyone thinking that they saw him there, but he's on the other side of the street. (for example)
But shapechange for Matches. It seems like what you're describing is perplex, which I toyed with a little. I could see changing a couple of clix of outwit for perplex, with hardly any change in overall point total. That might work. I always think about shapechange as something for Plastic Man, Elongated Man, Clayface, Mr. Fantastic, characters like that.
And I don't know, I could see a Alex Holland as a real cheap figure. Maybe some outwit with how smart he is and not much of anything else. A sculpt of him in a doctors smock holding a potted plant or something.

Shapechange does kinda work for Matches, as Bruce is pretty much a master of disguise. I do think though, that perplex would be the better one to go with, as you don't have to literally change shape to beat someone down, and have them wondering how some average street muscle can do that.
Hypersonic is a power that Clark should have. The more that I think of it, the more logical that one sounds, as you do see him rush around, and be gone quickly in the comics, cartoons, movies, and even in the Smallville show (No, we don't need a Smallville set, thank you).
The idea of "secret identity" characters is a great one, and I hope that WizKids does this. I mean, we already have one character that isn't a "super" hero, in Gordon, so why not have some of the others in there as well?? And really, aside from mind control powers, what is the big thing with Xavier in the Marvel set? Seems that it would be simple, and with the introduction of the Logan figure in the CT set, I think that the different identities are a valuable, and easy to add figure. Keep the ideas going guys, I love readin them. Wish I had the inclination to make customs and stuff, might find a way to do one up...anyways, good ideas, keep em coming.
Thanks for feedback, Mayberry, ]V[GoldEagle. Glad you like.
Hmm...maybe I could clarify what I meant with suggesting Shapechange for Matches...
The power itself is the whole 'You look like my Granny. I won't attack you' thing, right? I s'pose it's a bit weaker in premise than some of the other powers that were suggested for him, but just simulating that first encounter with him, where some folks are looking for the Batman or an enemy of some kind, but then see Matches and say 'nah, it couldn't be him , could it?
Perplex and outwit absolutely work for 'im, but maybe the first click of pure deception like that? Anyway, it's just an idea. I meant it as the deception part of things, not as much the beat-someone-down element.
Alec Holland with a potted plant...hee.:D
