I had an awesome time with HC this weekend, even though I only won one game.
Friday night started with an awesome online forum game with holocaust. It was the first time I got to field an effective Nightmare team, which will see tweaking in the future.
Saturday I went to our local venue. The first game was a 400 point Marvel only game. Mon-El fielded a team of various figures led by Magneto, I went for all X-Men including V Professor X. For 20 attack rolls I never hit once. Not once. Only after Magneto took out Professor X did I get my first hit. My LE Wolverine chased Scarlet Witch all over the #### board, and even when he DID hit, Mon-El had me re-roll awesome damage rolls to single dot die. Mon-El was winning and he said it was painful to watch.
After that it was a three way when Spidersense showed up. Super-Skrull and LE Annihilus led the charge. I love Annihilus, but he suffers a swiftly declining dial. Meanwhile Super-Skrull went toe to toe with figures like Superman and Bane and survived. However I got beat down again :)
Sunday me and Graf Zemo went to Orangeburg's Haven Comics for a head to head tourney. Some of the rules were hella odd, and different from normal tourney rules. The build had to consist, for some reason, of one Brotherhood member or one X-Man. The judge let me field my infamous Sentinel team since it fit the bill.
Two 100 point Sentinels, U Elektra, E SHIELD Sniper, V Hydra Operative, and R Invisible Girl. My team got wasted the first two games because of ####-poor starting positions, not my fault though, I didn't have a choice! However, I scored a V Firelord capture as a mega-moral victory. My last match was against a real young player. I ended up capturing a V Wolverine for triple points and an E Hawkeye for double points. One of my Sentinels killed Nightcrawler for double points. I felt hella bad since he hadn't won all day, but I did my best to encourage him. Especially when Nightcrawler scored double 6's on Elektra, knocking her off the roof, after she had taken ANOTHER double 6 hit from Magneto. Wolverine got a 6 damage to a Sentinel before his capture.
After the game, which was my only win all weekend, I helped fill gaps in his collection for free, and when I bought some singles from the front counter, I got him his first E Batman. I felt a hell of a lot better especially since it looked like he brightened up a lot. He got the fellowship prize of Paibok, which I would have killed for :P, but I had left by that point. Graf Zemo got wiped by several F-lord teams and feels pretty discouraged. Two of the players were hella rude and really arrogant, "I guess those Columbia guys thought they were gonna come down here and play, well we showed them!" I pretty much ignored them.
The team needs tweaking. But U Elektra was MVP. She was carried around like a switchblade to be stabbed into a figure that would be based with the Sentinel, then captured a round later. R Invisible Girl helped the Sentinel's poor defense.
I lost and didn't advance, but I got three captures and placed 5th. My last game netted me 840 points in one round.
Well, that's your weekend Shin-Goji report. Take your lessons where you can find them, enjoy yourself and your friends, and keep on clicking!
