I'm a wee bit annoyed at the keyword distribution, especially on older figures.
Here is a classic lineup (IIRC, this would be after the return from Asgard when Karma rejoined the team, and explains the winged steed) for use at 500 points:
82 GSX Cannonball
73 FF U Warlock
66 FF Exp Moonstar
65 WoS Wolfsbane
59 FF Vet Karma
51 AW Vet Magma
38 GSX Cypher
38 SN Rookie Sunspot
28 CM Rookie Magick
= 500 points
It's a shame about the keywords, as the bonuses for this 9-figure lineup would be worthwhile to assist the (generally) weak dials.
For this lineup I opted for what I considered the best versions of all the first 8 characters, and then added whatever Magick fit.
Cannonball: The GSX version is certainly more cost-effective than any of the Armor Wars REVLE, and it is arguably better than all of them too.
Mirage/Moonstar: We're saddled with the horse version (see what I did there?) unless you opt for a pure substitute dial (Exp Psylocke from Armor Wars?) I've always found the Exp to offer the best balance between cost and offense/utility.
Wolfsbane: I opted for "new hotness". The original E/V/LE versions from Hypertime have all served me well in the past and I would not hesitate to use them again if I had to make point compromises. The only danger is that the modern game has few figures that only do 1-damage, so the IC versions will be easy pickings for any modern figure.
Karma: each of the REV from Fantastic Forces is a good dial. I opted for the vet because of the 11 AV, 10 range :bolt::bolt:. Playing this force already has a lot of compromises, feel free to use the best stats available.
Magma: See comment on Karma above. I recommend reviewing dials to see if you think you can make the R/E work better for your team, but the 8-range Barrier is what this hottie is all about in the early dial. So few players use barrier, so I've found it to have a big surprise factor.
Sunspot: I love the dial/cost on the rookie. The other version are also decent dials, but the 38-points for the rookie is what seals the deal for me every time. Allow him to carry the 3D Computer or Pop Machine and he will be a wrecker.
I think the CM REVLE Magick dials offer some utility, but if you want a more threatening piece, opt to sub in the LE Soulsword Wielder from Supernova.
