Well I just heard/read from a very reliable source (all you comic fans will know which one I'm talking about) that they've revealed minor details on the Superman costume.
The website basically said (not a direct quote):
"The costume is going to have some padding for the muscles, similar to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man suit, and the cape is still being made.
The costume will be dark-blue, and the 'S' will not have yellow field, it will be black."
Did you read that? BLACK!!!
Do I smell an 'Our World's at War' theme? :p :D :p
So basically, Superman's going to look like this... (http://www.geocities.com/dj_spitzy/OWaW_Superman.jpg)
Note... The link won't work properly if you click on it, you have to cut the image name from the url, get to the main page, then paste the image back on the end of the address and hit 'enter'.
Also, the front runners for the role of Kal-El appear to be soap-star, Matthew Bommer, and Victor Webster from 'Mutant X'; two fairly unknown actors. A good move on WBs behalf to grab a couple of unknowns.
Jerry O'Connel did a screen test for the role also. I liked him in Sliders, but no way would I want him as my favourite superhero.
Brendon Fraiser and Paul Walker are also going to screen test for the Superman role, along with Bomer; Victor Webster already has tested, those 4 are the favorites right now. Ratner (the director) has said that, based on looks, Bomer is his favorite right now.

I'm really really torn on some of these choices for the big blue boy scout. Bomer has some stage credits other than the soaps, so that hopefully means...well, that he knows how to act, honestly. But he's fairly young (24) so I'm not sure what they are going for here. I realize youth sells, but they made Reeve look older than he was in Superman the Movie. He was able to pull off late 20's, early 30's and it was believable.
Of course I'm also terrified about what they are going to do with a script on this puppy. Here's a thought BTW, see what ya'll think about it. No 20 minutes on the origin. 5 minutes tops, no more. Maybe just as a flashback. I mean come on, Superman still has the highest name recognition of any superhero, and I'm willing to bet most of those folk know he's from Krypton as well.

I'd love to see Brendan Frasier, personally...he's well-known enough where might avoid the career-ending jinx of playing a well-known superhero. He's also big enough where they wouldn't need to pad the suit, if he got into prime shape.
Actually, I'd also love to see him play Captain America or Iron Man, if either of those make it to the big screen. :D
I'm sure it must have been mentioned somewhere, but I've seen the O'Connell mention made in 5 places so far and no one's mentioned that he played someone with Superman-ish abilities in the generally unlamented tv show My Secret Identity back in the late 80's. Invulnerability, super strength, super speed and flight, it was the whole bag, albeit on a late 80's syndicated tv show budget.
I'm not suggesting this qualifies him in the least for the role, but it was the first thing I thought of when the possibility of his playing Superman came up. Being reported in the comics fan press it just seemed to be a fun tidbit to mention, especially since the show disappeared deeply enough beneath the waves that it's likely many who know him from Sliders, and who may also know that he was in the movie Stand By Me well before that, have never heard of this failed super-powers show.

i heard that guy from "john doe" the fox show, was gonna get it. whoever they get i hope they are actually the physical part for the role, and not just some guy with dimples and dark hair who can semi act.
i want somebody as imposing as supes should be. 6'6 and 300 pounds of kryptonian muscle.

I hadn't heard that he was one of the contenders---but not a bad one, either. He's got some charisma, and he's a pretty decent actor as well. I only remember him from "Sliders"--and he pretty much carried that show for a good hunk of its run.
He might have a bit of that Dean Cain thing going on as Superman--and I don't mean that in a bad way. I liked Dean Cain in the role, although I thought "Lois & Clark" was a pretty weak show overall.
weezer_10,
I wouldn't give any credit to WB on casting... or script for that matter... I agree with proditor, the script could be a real nightmare.
Here's a recent E! news article you might find interesting/terrifying:

That's absolutely terrifying. I don't mind changing a bit of the mythos for a story ..but geez ... Luthor from Krypton ...so he'd have the same pwoers as Superman? Yikes!!!!!!! And keep anyone from NSync ANYWAY from it!!!
If you read the article, you would've seen that supes would get his powers from the suit... Not that I'm defending it.
It's honestly the most idiodic revamp I've ever heard from... And they want Timberlake as Olsen?
Timberlake, gay: yeah
Olsen, gay played by Timberlake: NO!!!
No wonder so many actors passed on the role, the story sucks!

Anyone know where the online petition is? I'd like to sign it. They're trying to destroy the story of Superman.......... I can't believe that WB would allow such a thing.
As far as the actors go......there is NO ONE that can fill the role of Kal-El, like Christopher Reeves. Nick Cage is a great actor. But he's no Superman. Jerry O'Connell is a good actor, and I enjoy him on Crossing Jordan, but he's a little off, in terms of physical appearance, to be Superman.
And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, keep Justin Timberlake away from ANY movie. This guy's solo album sux bad enough, without him acting!
That "weird" script with the powers coming from the suit and all that is NOT going to be the movie. Just about every movie site (news, rumor or superhero) has reported (serveral times) months ago that WB has had the script re-writen since then to fit with the comic orgins and story. Its OLD news (at least 6 months), that script should be forgotten, WB has forgotten it.
I don't know what's wrong with Tom Welling, The guy from Smallville. he's great on the show.
A little hair cut and your set...
Although it's past his time, I always thought BRUCE CAMPBELL would be the perfect superman.
But that's just my opinion...

I have to agree with Lobo83. I think Tom Welling would make a great Clark Kent in the movie. Cut his hair, put him in a suit, and put on some glasses and he'd look the part, perfect. Plus, he's already familiar with playing the part of Clark. Let's not forget that he is actually in his mid 20's (isn't that about the time Clark moved to Metropolis?)
I think they want to stay away from Tom Welling for a couple reasons.
1) he looks really young (little too young)
2) In movies looks are everything, those fans who see him as Superman will just assume that it follows Smallville and if the movie doesn't stick to everything Smallville has done they may be confused and/or pissed off (ie - wheres Lana).
3) They would have to cast the same family, Lex and Lana and I doubt they want to do that. Plus it could (and probably would) interfer with the show. It would come off like the X-Files movie did to the series and I'm guessing they want to stay away from that.
4) It might turn off non-fans of the show, thinking that the movie is linked to the show and if they havn't watched it they won't get it (again, like the X-Files movies).

As the search for the right person to play superman. Has anyone seen Joe Millionaire. Aside from not having any acting experience, I think that he has the right built and height to play a superman. He is pretty tall and has the right look to portray superman, in my opinion. what do you think about this?

Yeah Bruce Campbell would rock he has attitude and the super chin too boot. Put him in a muscle costume and wham!!
That script does look dreadful. My God they are trying to kill Superman, why would any production company accept such a pathetic script. Still wish Johnny Depp was Bruce Banner.
Thanosied - That script was writen when Tim Burton and Nick Cage were attacted to the movie, and its the movie Burton wanted to make. He saw Superman that way and though it would some how be a good representation of the characer. Once Burton and Cage left that script was s####ed.
And what of Bruce Campbell?
Campbells not being considered - the 4 guys being considered and tested right now are Brendon Fraiser, Mat Bomer, buddy from Mutant X and Paul Walker

I think Joe Millionaire would be a great superman. He is perfectly built for it and has a good match facewise. Lets face it Christopher Reeve could play a great clark kent but muscle wise he just doesn't cut it. From first seeing Evan (Joe M) I thought he would be good for it.
Starrior, you should be smite from the Earth for that comment....
"Say Lois, uh, I cam from this plane, uh, Crip-tom, uh. And it blew up..."
Now I'm not saying BC should be casted now (He's at least 42),
but does anyone agree with me that he would've made a kick-### superman.
I love Bruce Campbell, but he's just too goofy looking to be supes. And this kid from Mutant X isn't gonna cut it either.

I sort of see it. Give him a haircut and some acting lessons and yeah, it's possible.
I think casting Joe would kill the series before it got started.
Joe Millionarre as Superman??? NO WAY! Only as Captain Marvel :D :D :D

Well just as soon as I found out, it has been reported now that Matthew Bomer and Brendan Frasier are out of contention for the role of Superman.
It's back to the drawing board for Warner Brothers as director, Brett Ratner's position is also in jeopardy.
This is semi good news I think; it means they're going to re-work the Superman project from the ground up. It sounds like Warner Brothers really want to make this movie, and they're willing to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure the Superman franchise gets the treatment it deserves.
"It sounds like Warner Brothers really want to make this movie, and they're willing to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure the Superman franchise gets the treatment it deserves." - I don't know about that. They already offered the role to two people who turned it down and Paul Walker walked away from the role before it was offered to him. I think its more that WB is having trouble casting the role.
