View Full Version : Is anyone else really excited about Shadowrun??

Okay, first, you must know that I've never been involved in the Shadowrun RPG, and I have no idea of the history of the characters. However, I am really, really excited about this new game coming out. I think that the action-figure sized figures are fantastic, and the fact that I won't have to spend hundreds of dollars collecting some figures that I won't even use is a strong bonus. You'll supposedly have the ability to customize to your heart's content, what with the items and everything, so you don't always have to play the same way. I just want to know who else thinks this is a great idea, and maybe if you know something about the Shadowrun universe, you can enlighten me on some of the history. :D

yeah, it's a great idea, sure. but if i had my druthers i'd have made a shadowrun mkdungeons type of game, with a minigame for hackers on the side, with two sides both competing for the same 'run contract. more collectible = more money for them. plus it'd just be cool.
as to the action figures, i think this would have made perfect sense back when transformers and gijoe were new. but right now seems like a strange timie to throw this stuff at us. heck, i'd still love it if transformers did it. i just don't know about shadowrun. seems like the audience they're going for is "mature", but the idea of a bunch of "mature" folks buying dolls is alien to me.
i hope it works for them, but strangely doubt it will. i think this'll be their first major flop. oh, and as a side note, i think that the crimson skies thing will be great, but only because it's not collectible. i don't mind spending $20 for a team of figs in a brand new game....but more than that when i'm already collecting $2k worth of heroclix a year? no way.

Really??
To me, the "mature" people are the most anal of collectors when it comes to action figures. They bribe stock boys to be on the lookout for certain figs and generally go nuts for the stuff. There are even signs in some stores that only a certain quantity of figures will be allowed to be purchased by an individual in order to allow everyone access to the action figures.
Kids could care less if they get the ultra-rare variant version of Hero-Guy, but grown adults will spend big bucks for Hero-Guy that has a slightly different colored accessory packet.
If it had been at MK/HC scale, I might have been interested, but at that scale ?????
I think it is going to "bomb" big time (sorry, but there it is). Look for it in the Bargain Bins within 6 months of the release.

It could all depend on the cost. If its significantly more expensive than most other action figures (say over $12) then it will completely miss any secondary market like KB Toys and TRU. But there is a very loyal Shadowrun fan base out there that will gladly buy a few figures in order to play the game.
And WK is only releasing 4 figs at a time (or maybe it was 6, but not more than that). Plus, there will be cross over audiences who like WK games that will pick up a single fig to check it out.
Overall, it might not be the success that MW or HC is, but it won't bomb either.
Besides, I've got a true to life, production run ShadowRun figure right here beside me. And the figure looks great. I saw the game played and it looks cool. So I wish them the best of luck.
Besides, if any WK game is going to bomb, it will be creepy freaks.
Creepy freaks will "bomb" big time.
I suppose, with shadowrun, if they get the distribution right, and hit the Shadow Run fans, maybe it will be OK, but at that scale I just can't see it being viable.
I'm slightly worried that WK might be diversifying too fast - I don't want the failure of anything else to damage HeroClix...

Yes! I am very excited It will combine one of my favorite pastimes!
That is posing action figures/model kits so they look even cooler!:D
Creepy freaks sounds weird and funny and I might buy a booster just to see what it is about but, Shadowrun looks really bad in my opinion. It may have peaked my interest as a MK/HC size game but, not as an action figure game. It will flop big time but, I think Creepy Freaks could be on to something.
Only time will tell which one will last and which one will flop.

Well see, one thing that piqued my interest was the fact that it wasn't collectible. The same can be said for Crimson Skies. I would have posted this about that game, but aviation has never been my top interest. So, I for one will probably buy a couple of Shadowrun figures, hoping, of course, that the cost is not too much, as azs pointed out. I just enjoy playing new games, and the non-collectible aspect of this one seemed really great, because I can spend my "hard money" on HC while playing Shadowrun on the side.

Yes, Shadowrun looks cool, but mainly I am hoping that this leads to more game companies (like White Wolf) getting in on the act. A Werewolf: The Apocalypse action figure game would be a grand idea.

I've never played Shadowrun before, but as a collector of action figures, this game does peak my interest. Why? Because the figures look cool! The fact that you can play a game with them is just gravy. That being said, I'm not going to buy fully into it just yet. I did order the Exclusive figure out of Inquest this month, and I am looking forward to getting to read over the rules and see just exactly how it's played.
Besides, I don't need to get into another Collectible game. So Shadowrun might be where I want to go when HC is boring me (not that that happens often).
When there was first talk about Whiz Kids doing a Shadowrun game, I figured it would be a normal clix type game and I was stoked. I am a HUGE old time fan of the the RPG.
When I read about the action figure game, my reaction was 'Great looking figures, but does this mean they won't do the clix versions?'
Nothing has pretty much changed. I might buy a few figures because I am a Shadowrun fan and the figures look nice. That is about it.

I'm big into Shadowrun, but I'll feel stupid playing with six-inch people. However, I will most likely own them all, because i'm hypocritical like that. Plus, i'll probably end up playing in sanctioned tournaments and becoming a judge, and then as shadowrun gradually takes over my life, i can look back at this post and reminisce about the good old days when the guys were only like an inch and a half tall, and you had to buy starter sets if you wanted the rules, there wasn't this new-fangled rules coming with each figure thing.
How's that for a run-on sentence?
