I ask a question and whoever answer's it get's to post the next. Here we go.
Who is Nightwing
bizarrome
03/12/2003, 17:33
Richard Grayson is the one from the Titans. Van-Zee is the one from the bottle city of Kandor (Which is the original).
I'll repeat it.
Who is Nightwing?
bizarrome
03/12/2003, 17:37
So you are saying I am wrong??
That's kind of a broad, open-to-interpretation question.
Are you asking what his secret identity is? (Richard Grayson)
Are you asking his background? (First Robin, leader of the Teen Titans, the Titans & the JLA during the Obsidian Age story arc, vigilante currently living in Bludhaven and on the police force in his secret identity, currently romantically involved with Barbara (Oracle, formerly Batgirl) Gordon)
Are you asking about the first pre-Crisis Nightwing? (A Batman-like identity adopted by Superman when in the Bottle City of Kandor (where he was powerless), with Jimmy Olson as his Robin-like Flamebird; a pair of Kandorians later took over the identities)
Yes Robin is the answer I was Looking for.

O.k. grinner you ask the next one.
bizarrome
03/12/2003, 17:50
I'm not asking anything really. I know it is one of them. Probably the Richard Grayson one, but you repeated the same question, so you must be saying I am wrong. I am not trying to be a pain, but my answers are right.
bizarrome
03/12/2003, 17:53
Okay, I got it right then. What hero is named Hal Jordan?? It is not GL, Spectre, or Parrallax. It is a seperate individual wit the same name.
I'm sure you are, But Robin was what I was looking for. I'll take your answer.

I believe it's Airwave (II or III), although I don't remember if we've seen him post-Crisis.
bizarrome
03/12/2003, 18:07
Grinner is correct! It was Airwave II. He is the cousin to Hal (GL) Jordan and they are both named after the same paternal grandfather.

oh, and no post-crisis appearances....
The Red Raider
03/12/2003, 19:25
Here's one for you....
What's Commissioner James Gordon's middle name?
I think it was Elliot
Ness??
Ness?! What kind of middle name is that?
Have you been playing Smash Bros. again?
The Red Raider
03/13/2003, 09:02
Here you go:
James Worthington Gordon.
Now then:
Before the cave entrance now famous from the tv show, the Batmobile had a much different and less spectacular exit from the cave... what was it?
It left a "secret" garage door.
Dude, give us a chance to ask some too please!
And lay off of Batman... but then again if you like the B-man so much:
In the TV show, how far away was the Batcave from Gotham City?
I know this one, but I can't get my brain on it exactly.
17 miles?
Sorry...
Try and remeber with this clue:
In the Nickalodeon show Pete & Pete, an episode featured a phone ringing for some years... The number of years is the same as the number of miles.
(Also Adam West played a recurring character in that show, Princible of the Petes' school)
19 miles
and my idea is copyrighted!
NOPESORRYWRONG.
Try again...
(What copyright?)
ooo, close.
Com'on! Doesn't anybody have TV Land?!
Of corse I do, It's one of my fave. show's, Right up there with Macgyver (not a bad clix idea). I know it's 21, 22, 23,24 or 25 miles.Right?
27
The batcave was 27 miles from Gotham
The Phone was ringing for 27 years...
answer me this...
Who was the first DC superhero to appear on the Silver Screen?
Nope, The first Superman "serial" (Starring Kirk Alan) premiered 8 months after this one...

"Who was the first DC superhero to appear on the Silver Screen?"
Captain Marvel.
Here's a fun one:
Which character from the DC universe has lifted Thor's hammer?
I can't believe I missed this, It one of my all time fave. movie's BATMAN: THE MOVIE. Right?
Male or Female?
I believe it was Wonder Woman...
The answer was from the movie AND the TV show
I know I missed it but I'm going to post any way.
What is the only girl batman enemy that was never in the t.v. seris?

Poison Ivy
...Technically, you can also say Harley Quinn

How many characters from the DCU can everyone name with the initials L.L.?
Lana Lang, Lois Lane, Lucy Lane, Lex Luther, Lionel Luther... gimme some more time...

But Poison Ivy wasn't in the TV series. And Harley Quinn was created in the Batman Animated Series from the 90's. There was a Harlariqunn that wore makeup and a clone suit in the seventies, and she was actually two-faces daughter. She dressed up like the "Joker's Daughter" to get back at her father, because in those days Two-Face and Joker hated each other.
I thought Poison Ivy & Harley were post-Adam West Batman. Unless Louie the Liliac counts?

Duella Dent (the name she gave, not her real name) dressed as the Joker's Daughter, and also claimed to be Catwoman's daughter, Penguin's daughter and the Riddler's daughter before she gave the Teen Titans her story about being Harvey Dent's daughter. She took on the identity of Harlequin for the few issues the Teen Titans lasted after that.
However, "I'm Two-face's daughter" story was fake as well. Pre-Crisis her last appearance was at Donna Troy's wedding as a husky woman too old to have been Harvey's daughter. Post-Crisis she has gone mad (I believe she actually remembers pre-Zero Hour continuity and possibly pre-Crisis as well) and is a villianess with a penchant for trying to ruin Gar (Changeling/Beast Boy) Logan's life.
And...
If the question was:

Pre-Crisis Superman was basically a god... Once it was refered that if Superman were to fly head on into the Earth (or any planet) he could destroy it; he also could hear 600 light years away and see up to 400...

One of the inherent problems with a DC trivia game :p :p
Thomas Wayne married the daughter of a wealthy- someone-or-other and used his money and hers to buy ownership of an up and coming electronics company... I think.
If I'm right, let me know quick because I got a GOOD question:D
bizarrome
03/16/2003, 02:33
Actually Wayne Enterprises was already a large company and diversified when Thomas came along. He became a doctor because he didn't want to have anything to do with the family business until later when he learned how his father was not allowing the big mobsters to run him. This is post crisis and still retained the original story of the Bat-suit worn to the costumeball by Thomas Wayne from the pre-crisis days. It was in a story titeled "Seige" and it was a five parter in "Legends of the Dark Knight" in the 130's of the title. He used Mob gold hidden by his grandfather to start Wayne foundation to make good where previously his Grandfather used it for the Mob (Bad).
Wow!
OK, now my question:
Who did Adam West beat out for the role of Batman?
Major Steve Trevor ;)
And I have to say that Lyle Waggoner has aged much better than either Adam West or Burt Ward.
Dam!
Actually, up until a few years ago, I would have said that Frank Gorshin didn't age at all, but with his recent in a TV movie, he really went down hill...
I guess I'm supposed to ask the next question.
What is Bette Kane's heroic identity, pre-Crisis and post-Crisis, and what is unusual about both of them?
I believe she is Bat-WOMAN, and I suppose that the unusual fact is that she's a bat-WOMAN, not a bat girl?
Nope. She wasn't Bat-Woman. And her pre & post Crisis identities are different but share the same unusual trait.
Kid Zero
03/16/2003, 05:05
Bat-Girl and Flamebird
Yep, and both of her identities she is less known than the other heroes with the same names.
Let's face it - you say "Batgirl" and most people think Barbara Gordon, then Cassandra Cain. Not many folks know there was a blonde Bat-girl.
And while Richard Grayson's Nightwing has beat out the Kandorian Nightwing's popularity, it's the Kandorian sidekick that more people think of when you say Flamebird (unless they're a Titans fan).
How many DC characters can you name that were actually created on TV shows before they made their first comic appearance?
I think Mr. Mxylpltlk (sx) was a cartoon first from the VERY first Superman cartoon back in the late 60's or early 70's.
Actually he did get his start in the comics (in the 50's), though back then he resmbled the WB's cartoon design (That design was actually an homage to the early Mxyzptlk).
Sorry, try again...

They are all Egyptian gods but I forget which ones.
bizarrome
03/17/2003, 00:40
First, the "original" Superman cartoons were made by Flescher in the 1940's.
Black Adam's Magic word was derived by similar Egyptian gods in both the pre and post crisis.
Shu = Stamina
Hershef = Strength
Amon = Power
Zehuti = Wisdom
Anubis = Speed
Menthu = Courage
In the Pre Crisis days, Black Adam was originally called Mighty Adam and was a hero. He later killed the Pharoah and slew armies. His intention was to set himself up as ruler of the world. The wizard changed his name to Black Adam and banished him to the farthest star. Thousands of years later, he completed the journey back to earth to face Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family.
In the Post Crisis era, he began to slay his adversaries and the wizard was displeased and removed his powers and placed them into a sacred scarab amulet. Sealing Adam in a sarcophagus, the wizard placed the amulet on the outside of the coffin. Always within reach, but unable to be touched. Centuries later his power was usurped by a descendant. Later the original Adam returned and is now being seen in the pages of the JSA.

B) Teamed up with Superman around the late '80s early '90s, but unfortunately 3/4 of them died by the issues end?

The Crimson Cowl
How did Uncle Marvel get his powers?
bizarrome

Uncle Marvel had no powers just a homemade costume. That was pre crisis. post crisis the character Uncle Dudley is not Uncle Marvel.

At the same time that the Recombatants were appearing in Teen Titans, Project:Youngblood (or somesuch) was appearing in DNAgents, an independent comic, welll worth looking into. The Recombatants were a thinly disguised DNAgents, while Project was a thinly disguised Teen Titans. Hence, they were unofficial crossovers.

name at least 3 of the strange encounters with 7 the justice league encountered during the case of julian september. bonus points!: name some other changes, and what batman called it.

2. Plastic Man and Aquaman aprehended a couple of crooks in Seven Devils Canyon
3. The Atom, the seventh member to join the JL appeared suddenly.

hal jordon, kyle rayner, john stewert, guy gardner, abin sur, alan scott, and jade. (please?)

Ignatz_Mouse

Ignatz_Mouse
09/15/2003, 16:20

Along the same lines, what pre-crisis Legion villain had been a member of the Green Lantern Corps?
Vidar (Universo) was a Green Lantern (LSH #295 or so - a flashback story).
Ignatz_Mouse
09/16/2003, 09:57
Correct!
OK, name six DCU supporting cast members who turned out to be Manhunters/Manhunter Sleeper agents. I'm not counting cheesy robot duplicates like the fake Gordon, but people who apparently (if illogically in some cases) were always Manhunters/Sleepers waiting to strike.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/16/2003, 11:24
I can only think of three offhand:
Lana Lang (some sort of post-hypnotic suggestion)
Mrs West (straight-up mole)
Laurel Gand (robot in disguise, but aparently always was)
Actually only two of those were correct (one was close). 4 more to go...
Ignatz_Mouse
09/16/2003, 13:06

2. Mr. (Rudolph) West (not Mrs. good catch NAES72) - From Flash
3. Laurel Kent - From Legion of Super-Heroes
3 more to go....
Ignatz_Mouse

This is a memory trip down bad-crossover-memory lane, by the way. I like Steve Engelhart (hence my Mantis question) but man, did he s####e bottom with this one.
Agreed that Millenium was pretty bad. I remember thinking I wasn't going to miss out on all the cool subplots like I did during Crisis and ordered Every. Single. Frickin'. Tie-in.
Needless to say this put me off cross-overs for a long, long time. ;)
Hints: There are a few more than six, three I can think of right off the top of my head were all in team books and another appeared in the second to last issue of a title that finished during the cross-over.
One of the Rocket Red's was a Manhunter. Dr Whitney in Smallville was a Manhunter, and it was Rudolf West Wally West the Flashes, Father. I don't recall any more beyond that.
Wait, All the kids in Smallville were supose to be sleeper agents, wouldn't Pete Ross be one as well?
Thalstrak
09/16/2003, 14:16

six listed here:

2. Rudolph West (Flash's father)
3. Laurel Kent (Legion Academy Member)
4. Rocket Red (JLI member)
5. Dr. Whitney (Smallville Doctor)
6. Dr. Jace (Outsider)
Props to ohcysp for deducing Pete Ross, although he was never explicitly revealed as one, I didn't count that guess).
Other acceptable answers:

Let's try this instead, What three major influences were Bob Kane's inspiration for the creation of Batman?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/18/2003, 10:46
The answer to your first question (as I know it) is also one of the answers to your second.
Zorro (the movie the Waynes were seeing, at least in modern retellings)
The Scarlet Pimpernel (if I remember correctly)
...and this is a total guess, but I would also say Superman (and the success of the costumed characters that followed).
I would have to say either The Shadow or The Phantom
darius_dax1
09/18/2003, 10:53
Shadow, The Spider, and I don't know because I am just Guessing.....could it be Doc Savage?
Mayberry Bat
09/18/2003, 11:12
Ignatz_Mouse is right on the first. But I couldn't remember if that was actually in the comic or not that's why the second question.
And IMouse is right that Zorro is part of the second question as well. No more guesses on the other two influences?
Wasn't it "Mask of Zorro?"
There was a Superman/Batman where unknowingly Superman gave Batman a copy for Christmas.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/18/2003, 11:56
Sherlock Holmes? Tarzan?
I really could have sworn Scarlet Pimpernel was one.... unless he's just cited as a precedent for the same type of character.

The other two unfluences are a little obscure. If you need some hints, let me know, I'll try and come up with something.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/18/2003, 12:19
Hints, please!
Mayberry Bat
09/18/2003, 12:37
1) Zorro (already guessed and correct)
2) Another movie character from a silent movie in the 1920's.
3) A drawing from a painter, inventer, sculpter in the 1400's. So I guess I'm looking for his name.
Davinci? His plans for the flying machine could have inspired Batman's cape.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/18/2003, 12:51
Nosferatu? Would explain the visual.
Mayberry Bat
09/18/2003, 14:14
Da Vinci is correct. Batman first had batlike wings (even though it was supposed to be a cape) similar to one of Da Vinci's drawings.
Nosferatu I think is in the 1910's. The movie title is so simple it'll kill ya.
According to the history of the Batman book the sources are: Zorro(or the mask of Zorro) a pulp book series, That became a movie serial for the Bat and Edgar Allen Poe.
Mayberry Bat
09/18/2003, 16:40
Yes the Bat is correct. But I've never heard or read anything about Poe's involvment in the creation of Batman.
And I have no idea who's up next to ask a question, either.
A friend of Bob Kane started to come up with the idea while in Edgar Allen Poe Park in New York thinking of the Raven. When he told Kane who at the time was working on a new superhero to work off the Superman fame, though it was a good start. Zorro influenced the regular guy with a mask helping the less fortunate. and The Bat pulp series for a darker vigilanty type personality.

Winking at the "audience"?
I assume you're talking about the awesome Alan Moore two-parter. Haven't looked at it in a while, but I think that's what happens.

Correct! It's at the end of "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow."
Your question.
Ok, heres an easy one:
What was the 'human' name of the original Swamp Thing (by which I mean the character who debuted first, not who was first continuity-wise)?
Bonus points: What well-known DCU villain was revealed to have been a failed attempt at creating a Swamp Thing by the Green?

Bonus points: What well-known DCU villain was revealed to have been a failed attempt at creating a Swamp Thing by the Green? Jason Woodrue the Floronic Man
Alex Olsen is correct (from the first House of Secrets apearance).
Woodrue's an interesting choice as he did have connection to the Green for a short time, but I was thinking of someone whose origin was explianed later in the series as a failed attempt to create a new Swamp Thing (hint: the element of fire was missing from the 'standard' Swamp Thing creation myth).
Anyway, it was a bonus question, so the floor is yours.
For the bonus question, I believe it was Solomon Grundy.
Solomon Grundy is correct. It came out of the Veitch run (#67), when he had the 'Sprout' looking for a possible host. In one issue, it tried to "reclaim" Grundy, revealing that a new Swamp Thing was supposed to have risen out of Slaughter Swamp, but something went wrong and they got Grundy instead. By the end of the issue Grundy manages to shake the sprout off and it heads off looking for a more suitable host.
I didn't like a lot of what Veitch did on his run (controversy over the infamous end aside, I just didn't dig the storytelling), but some of his individual issues were great and I really liked this one.

How did Streaky get super-powers?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 13:29
Exposure to X-Kryptonite.
darius_dax1
09/19/2003, 13:36
hmmm...I don't remember X Kryptonite...and be a little more specific.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 13:52
I don't know the specifics, just that that's the element that gave Streaky powers....
(goes searching...)
"ORIGIN
Streaky was an ordinary cat until he was exposed to X-Kryptonite, a new kind of Kryptonite created by Supergirl while she was trying to find a way to nullify the deadly rays of Green Kryptonite. The experiment failed, but it was the X-Kryptonite marble inside a ball of string in the cellar of Midvale orphanage which gives him temporary super-powers when he gets near it."
I didn't know that Supergirl had made it. I thought it was just a random variety. In fact, I think the only reason I knew about it becuase it gets listed whenever there's a list of types of Kryptonite.

09/19/2003, 15:14
What was "The Legion's Super Secret"?
Oldguynewbie
09/19/2003, 15:20
but I think I remember this story. Wasn't this during the Mike Grell art days? Mon-El forcing Superboy to have his memory erased before he returned to his own time sticks in my head. I couldn't tell you why, though.
The secret is that Superboy has been repeatedly brainwashed to forget that the technology of the 30th century can creat life and is the reason the Legion ar all still young after decades of adventuring.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 15:45
ohcysp: The secret is the still-young part. Superboy guesses that it's about creating life, but he's wrong, and the other members let him think he's right.
And yep, it's from the Mike Grell days, and one of the more striking covers of the era.
Your q, ohcysp.
This is kinda lame, but really funny. Name all the members of the O-Squad? and who was kicked out because he didn't actually qualify?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 17:03
I don't know what your talking about, but here's a wild guess:
Bizarro, Amazo, Eclipso, Despero,
And Mordru was kicked out.
You've got the right idea with the O's but wrong villian kicked out.
Jason Blood
09/19/2003, 17:17
Here's a wild guess
Amazo because he is an android
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 17:27
Magneto because he's Marvel?
Alright a hint: He doesn't qualify because his name doesn't actually end in "O", I think this might give it away. Since four of the members have been named(Bizarro, Amazo, Eclipso, Despero), I'll take three more(including the one who was disqualifed, he has not yet been named) to finish the answer.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 17:38
TO Morrow (I assume got kicked out)
Mojo
Magneto
IM you got it. T.O.Morrow was kicked out due to his name ending in W insted of O. they deamed he's not really a part of the club. So I think it should be your question, though I'm still looking for atleast two more members of the O Squad?
ohcysp:
Where did the O Squad appear? Are they just DC or both Marvel and DC?
Justice League of America Annual #8. about '92. it was a side story at the end of the book. It was just a funy little story. They were meeting in a Donut shaped space station and they all had "Hi, My Name is" tags. It's getting harder to think of these questions.

Which DC comic occasionally featured tales of "The Dead Detective"?
Sounds like old Specter comics might have that. Or maybe House of Mystery House of Secrets.
This sounds like it was during the Helfer/Maguire era of the JL

Here's a hint-- it was not a DC Universe comic (although there was a kinda crossover moment at one point)
Was it Vertigo? Maybe Hellblazer or Sandman?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 19:13
Pre-vertigo, but had Vertigo been around, it certainly would have been a Vertigo book.
I may have picked a slightly obscure one!

Unexpected?
Ignatz_Mouse

And I thought this book had a cult following. Perhaps not!
Here's another hint-- the title was used only a few years later by either Vertigo or Piranha Press for a comic full of morbid one-panel gag cartoons.
Hmm, that might make this even harder....

Piranha Press put out something other than Epicurus the Sage, Gregory and the Great Big Books?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 20:46
Yeah, a one-off that shared a title with this other comic.
What's bugging me now is that the one-off was by a writer and artist that at the time I had really liked, and now I can't even remember who they were! And searching the web has been no help, as neither of these comics (being outside the DCU) have much about them online.
Ignatz_Mouse
09/19/2003, 20:54
Oh, I finally remembered who the team on the other book was. Wow, they disappeared.
I don't think anyone is going to get it. Looks like you win "Bonus points" for stumping the HCRealmers.
Ask another question.
Would it be Wasteland?
That's the only title I know that was re-used for Pirhana but had nothing to do with the original (I didn't read either BTW, but I was always curious about the Ostrander series).
Ignatz_Mouse
09/20/2003, 02:28
Wasteland is correct! I guess I didn't stump the panel after all.
Both are good, but the Ostrander/Close series (ran 18 issues) was pretty #### cool. Highlights were autobiographical stories from Del Close (and improv comedy icon, who trained a lot of the early SNL people and Seconf City people), teh aforementioned Dead Detective story, and a lot of wierd little one-offs.
In this day and age of a lot of small press comics and all sorts of things published on the web and eslewhere, it might not seem so exciting, but at the time it was fabulous.
It also had a particularly charming story called "All the world's a stage" which I presume was a major inspiration for the Truman Show. STarts the same way, similar premise.
OK,
Who was Esak? Who was his mentor that he betrayed? And who finally killed him?
(I might not be back until Monday... If someone's reasonably sure of the answer, they can post the next question.)
Ignatz_Mouse
09/20/2003, 12:37
Wow, no idea. Sounds Kirbyesque, though.
He's got me totally stumped. I couldn't even hazard a guess.

That was going to be my first clue: Think Kirby :)
Second hint: Esak's act of betrayal and his death were chroniclesd in a much hyped original Kirby Work in the mid-Eightes. That should narrow it down some.
In order to keep this Thread alive you might want to just give the answer.

John Henry Irons
Two Batman's enemys appeared in The Question's comic.
Who are they?
Ignatz_Mouse
09/22/2003, 01:41
Jason:
John Henry Irons is the third. The other two are both named Hank Heywood, I think.
For the Steel question the 1st steel is Hank Heywood I, then his Grand son Hank Heywood, and then the most recent and notable, John Henry Irons.
For the Question question, The two Batman enemys to apperar in the series are Lady Shiva and the Riddler.

Correct on all counts. This all happened in the "Hunger Dogs" GN for those who were curious. Esak was a New God who appeared to be little more than 10 or 11 (of course being from New Genesis, he could be centuries old). He was Metron's pupil, and stole/finished his "Mirco-Mark" technology (which also horribly disfigured him) and sold it to Darkseid. "Micro-Mark" was the New Gods version of micro-circuitry and powered all sorts of biological, chemical and explosive weapons as well as various surveillance and crowd control devices. The technology was apparently destroyed after the Hunger Dogs revolted (along with some of Darkseid's elite) in fear the circuitry could potentially destroy them all after witnessing it cause the destruction of the first New Genesis.

Sweet! Good job Rouge2. Your question.
What series did Villian the Villain appear in, why did he have such a strange name and who was he fighting at the time?
Well that would be Ambush Bug, One of my favorate oddities.
Which series though, and who was he fighting (it wasn't the Bug)?
I think it was in Action Comics, I don't know what issue. It was the UH-OH Squad. I don't remember all of their names I think it was blotto specificly who Fought Villian the Villian.
Blotto from the Uh-Oh Squad is correct. Still looking for the series and the reason for the name.... :)
I thought it was Action Comics, If not I don't have any more info.
It was an Ambush Bug series, but it wasn't "Ambush Bug" (That should narrow it down a bit :) )
Was it the Son of Ambush Bug?
Correct!
(for the record, he was sick of people mis-spelling the word "Villain" so he took the name "Villian the Villain" to point it out).
Your question -
RexMason
09/23/2003, 15:45
So I just read this thread and thought I'd point out a few things:
The Waynes died after seeing Mark of Zorro, not Mask.
The first Steel wasn't named Steel. I forget if it was Commander Steel or Colonel Steel, but it wasn't just Steel.
So here's a question: What's Ultra the Multi-Alien's secret identity?
Actually Rex, he did go by Steel, then changed it to Commander Steel. I found that when I was serching for the answer.
Okay, new question. Name the three demons, (and which mystical items used to summon each of them) that are the source of Felix Faust's power.

since the three items of power figure into the current JLA/Avengers cross over:
Items were bell, jar and wheel, I think, plus "of somethingwierd" (Uthool?)
Radagar and Ghast were two of the three demons, I think. Don't remember enough to guess on the third. Trivia games get harder as you get older.
Ghast is one, you have to other name wrong. You also have the items correct, but they all have names I'm looking for as well. Keep up the good work.
Abnegazor, Rath, and Ghast. Rath is currently a demon Maggot, cause I guess he was killed, probaly in the Underworld event. Last appearance was JLA #6, that I know of.
