X-Games, Volume 4

Time for a brand new set and a new series of games to celebrate them for Gargantua and I.

As far as the game construct goes we have 5 series of 1000 point games followed by a finale using all figures from those 5 games. As usual we get 8 figures on board at a time (multiple figures like Madrox count as 1) and replace as they fall. Throughout the series we can each any feat twice. We've added a mechanic we've used before---'Crazy 8s'. In this game it works this way: make an attack roll. If it's an 8, complete the action. Then roll an 8 sided die. Your figure exchanges with the opponents figure equaling that rolled number (with any action /damage tokens on it). Each game with we both will have a team leader, that figure alone cannot be switched (Professor X and Magneto are among them). At each games end the 'exchanged' figures go into a pot and are divided up, winner getting first choice, if it's an uneven number that final figure goes to the winner.

Our story posts reflect a kind of Age of Apocalypse type of world where two mutant leaders (Magneto for Gargantua, Xavier for me) war with their own factions of mutants and mutant-sympathizers. This allows us to focus on mutant characters while throwing in non-mutants.

"Are you ready, sir?" Havok asks pushing Xavier's wheelchair.

"Have you ever known him not to be, Alex?" asks Polaris with a smile.

"She does have a point, Havok," Professor Xavier smiles, "Are you my Hellfire Club allies, are you all ready?".

"Battle is not something we shy away from, Charles," the Black King says, "As you know very well."

"With many a bruise to prove it," Trevor Fitzroy adds.

"Shaw speaks for us all," Norman Osborn adds, "And rarely will you hear those words from my lips."

Dark Beast is mesmerized by Sauron. "The things I could do with you...".

"Back off, weirdo," he replies.

"What are you all doing?" Monica Rambeau asks the remaining X-Men.

"Transcendental medication," Elixir says, "It's good for the soul."

"Besides that, Elixir looks hot in the spandex," Dazzler says.

The Cuckoos giggle nervously but couldn't help but agree.

“The professor is here. I do not like that,” Colossus frowned.

“I can use my magic to try to keep him out of out heads,” Nico suggested.

“Hee, yeah, good luck with that,” the Toad chortled.

“Stick with me, child,” Selene told Nico. “I will show you some real magic. Not the tricks you play with your staff. And I will make sure Xavier stays out of our heads.”

“Ah, he doesn’t scare me,” the Blob said.

“That’s ‘cause you don’t have a brain to mess with,” Pyro jabbed.

“Besides, we got Tommy,” Molly said, pointing up at the silent looming Sentinel.

“Tommy?” Karolina asked.

“Well, he kinda looks like a kid in my class named Tommy, so I thought that’d be a good name for him.”

“I suppose eet ees as good a thing to call ‘im as any,” Aurora shrugged.

“It ain’t Charley’s mental powers that’ve got you down, is it Petey?” Wolverine took Colossus aside to talk for a moment.

“You are right. I know I made the decision to follow Magneto of my own free will because I feel his program is more realistic than the professor’s but still I feel like a naughty child rebelling against my teacher.”

“I get ya, Petey,” Wolverine nodded. “But ya gotta follow through on your convictions. Mags trusted us to put us in charge o’ this team. Ya can’t let ‘em see that you’re not 100% committed.”

“I know. I will put the good face on it.” Peter nodded.

“Good man,” Wolverine clapped him on the back. “Now let’s go put a tack on the teacher's chair.”

That Colossus/Wolverine piece looks interesting. And of course Nico is a damn good piece. Then there's that Sentinel....I've got my work cut out for me here.

Also realize a serious flaw in Xavier, at least with this team. It certainly won't let him play at his best but the finale can do that....

Selene smiled, only too happy to oblige in sending her into danger and cast a spell to teleport her forward.

"Uh oh, come on Tommy, she's going to need backup," Nico said, hopping on the Sentinel's foot.

"Advancing," the Sentinel said, while Aurora flew in before any of Xavier's team could react to her, and hit their leader with a blast of her light power.

"Aurora!" Xavier said.

"Don't worry, Charles," Havok said. "We won't give her a second shot."

Oh ick. With that X-Men TA, that's going to be sick if you keep healing him. Granted, you can only use his power on guys that share keywords, but that's still a decent number of your figures.

Nico takes on Perplex, makes the SEntinel's Damage 5.

"Systems under attack. Source: Sauron. Easily neutralized," the Sentinel says.

"Not yet he's not," says Monica Rambeau as she stuns it with her energy powers.

"It's a brief respite at best, Charles," she adds.

“One more time, Petey,” Wolverine said. And this time with the confusion of the battle ranging around them, the Cuckoos were unable to mess with their heads. Colossus threw Wolverine like a missile at Professor X.

“Wolverine, don’t do this,” Xavier pleaded with him, backing himself up with a mental nudge. “You know that working with Magneto isn’t right. It’s not too late to come over to our side.”

“Sorry Charley, you trained me too well on how to resist your mental mucking around. But I’ll give you this concession at least. I won’t use my claws.” Even without his claws though, Wolverine’s attack was fierce enough to put Xavier out of commission for the duration of the fight.
