View Full Version : KLINGON RAIDERS game

This game is, I'm afraid, only open to three players. You can sign up as second-in-command in case someone drops out.

Each player is in command of a Klingon F5 frigate (http://www.starfleetgames.com/federation/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2381&sid=8416a12a33e5ffee54b24efa67a5ee51), part of a group that is going to raid inside Federation space.

Each of you is hoping to earn more glory than the other captains and thus earn a promotion and a coveted spot commanding a full battlecruiser.

Each Frigate starts out with:

Disruptors
8 anti-matter missles
4 armed shuttles
120 crew
0% damage

Each time you attack a Federation target, that target gets a number rating.

For instance: Federation Destroyer: 8

When you attack it, each captain would earn 1-8 glory points (exact reward determined separately for each captain). But each ship would lose 1-8 crew and take 1% - 8% damage.

Damage may also take out unused missiles or shuttles. If your damage total is 6%, for instance, there is a 6% chance of a missile being wrecked in its tube and a separate 6% chance for a shuttle to be wrecked in the shuttle bay.

You can increase your reward by launching a missile during the battle. Each missile you use would earn you 1-8 more glory points. But once a missile is used, its gone forever. Once you are out of missiles, you are out for the remainder of the mission.

Each shuttle you launch earns you 1 - 8 more glory points. But there is a 8% chance of it being destroyed. Once you are out of shuttles, you are out forever.

You may opt to use "risky tactics," endangering your ship to get more glory in battle. In this case, the captain is awarded an extra 1 - 8 glory points, but crew losses and damage are doubled.

Captains, if they are feeling generous, may transfer crew, missiles and shuttles from their ship to another ship between battles.

If the rating of your opponent is 10, then all the above numbers become 1-10. If it's 4, then all the numbers become 1-4. And so on.

Damage and crew losses are cumulative. Once you are down to 40 crew, future damage and crew losses are always doubled. If you get down to 20 crew, you have to withdraw from the mission.

Once damage to your ship is over 40%, future damage and crew losses are doubled. You may choose to sit out a fight in order to repair 5% of your damage. You may do this multiple times, though you won't be earning any glory when you do so. Obviously, if you hit 10% damage, you are destroyed and are out of the game.

(NOTE: So if you are using risky tactics, have less than 40 crew and more than 40% damage, losses are doubled, then doubled again, then doubled again.)

The games will involve at least 5 fights. After that, there is an ever increasing chance (5%, then 10%, etc) of Captain Kirk and the Enterprise showing up to chase you away. At this point, you may individually choose to run away and end the game or try to destroy Kirk for a huge amount of glory points. Details on how this works will be described when it happens. In this last fight, there will be a chance of you being destroyed.

The surviving player with the most glory points wins and gets the promotion to full captain.

First come, first serve for signing up. Come up with a cool Klingon name (Blue Fire, Claw of Death, etc) for your frigate as well.

This is another April Fools joke thread, isn't it?

You sign people up, kill their characters, laugh uproariously, and then lock down the thread.

Is that what happens?

If so, not funny, man.

No, no, no. It's a real game.

Not that I won't enjoy seeing you ALL DIE HORRIBLE IN FIERY SPACE EXPLOSIONS!!!!! But it's a real game all the same.

I think that would fall under the "risky tactics" rule.

The small raiding fleet enters Federation space through a lightly guarded area of space, jumping a Light Cruiser patrolling the border. The Fed ship MUST be destroyed before it can get a message out past your jamming signals.

Federation Light Cruiser (http://www.starshipmodeler.biz/shop/index.cfm/product/1790_29/11000-kestrel-class-federation-light-cruiser.cfm): 6

The captains have until Wednesday at Noon Eastern time to decide:

Whether to use missiles and how many
Whether to launch shuttles and how many
Whether to use Risky Tactics

Remember, using missiles/shuttles increase glory points but use up resources. Risky Tactics increase glory points but also increases damage and crew losses.

DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY: NOON EASTERN

archaon02
04/04/2011, 15:54
I'll launch all 4 shuttles at the quivering cowards. They aren't worth the time it would take to load a missile in a tube though. For the Empire and Glory!!!

The Death From Above shall launch two armed shuttles to lead us into combat.

FOR THE EMPIRE!

Kalel21
04/05/2011, 11:17
Shuttles from Tribbledoom and Death from Above swarm around the Fed cruiser, while Vulcan’s Bane launches a frontal attack with all disruptors blazing. The Federation ship is soon reduced to a radioactive cloud.

Ironically, all the shuttles in combat survive, but Vulcan’s Bane takes a hit to its launch bay, damaging one of its shuttles beyond repair.

The raiding force moves into Federation space. Soon, you run across three slow moving civilian merchant ships escorted by a Federation destroyer. The Fed ship must be destroyed while boarding parties are beamed aboard the merchants to slaughter the crews and capture the valuable cargoes.

Fed Convoy: 10

NOTE: Crew losses this time will be doubled to represent men left on the merchants as prize crews to take them back to Klingon space.

Same decisions as last time: How many missiles, how many shuttles; yes/no to risky tactics.

Deadline is Friday by Noon eastern.

DarkCorsair
04/07/2011, 10:58
Okay, I learn from past experience.

Normal Tactics
Launch 1 missile (just to make that destroyer's day)
Launch 3 shuttles (what for the looting and such!)

Launch all shuttles. For the Empire!!!

Kalel21
04/08/2011, 09:19
The destroyer is quickly smashed, though one of Vulcan's Bane's shuttles is destroyed. Also, heavy fighting to take the merchant ships results in relatively high crew loses for Tribbledoom and Death from Above. A hit on Tribbledoom destroys a missile in its launch tube.

But the merchants are captured and sent back with prize crews to the Klingon homeworld.

The raiding party cuts deeper into Federation space, intending to raid the dilithium mine at Cestus IV. The planetary defense satellites will have to be destroyed first.

The satellite defenses are ripped from the sky, the puny humans are subdued and the dilithium crystals are looted and stored in the cargo holds of your ships. A hit on Tribbledoom, though, destroys one of his missiles in its bay.

But Tribbledoom has a shuttle shot down and Vulcan's Bane takes a few nasty hits which destroy one of his remaining missiles in its launch tube.

The raiding party leaves this system and soon finds a pair of Federation transports (escorted by several fast attack shuttlecraft) towing cargo pods full of colonists to a new world. Those colonists will make good slaves for the Empire!!!

TRANSPORTS: 15

(NOTE: The need to leave prize crews for the transports means all crew losses are doubled this round)

(NOTE: Vulcan's Bane is now damaged severely enough to double all damage and crew losses unless it sits out the battle to make repairs.)

NOTE: There was a 5% chance of Kirk and the Enterprise showing up this round, but he hasn't arrived yet.)

DEADLINE IS FRIDAY BY NOON EASTERN.

Kalel21
04/14/2011, 13:13
The Tribbledoom attacks alone, weaving dangerously among the Fed attack shuttles. Luckily, the ship takes less damage then might be expected and recovers all shuttles afterwards. The Fed colonists are shipped back home to start their new lives as slaves.

A Federation outpost nearby is guarding an archeology dig that has turned up ancient alien technology-- technology that should belong to the Klingon Empire!!!! But a Federation Missile Cruiser is orbiting the planet as well, making it a tough nut to crack.

OUTPOST: 15

SPECIAL RULE: If you launch a shuttle by remote control containing electronic countermeasures to draw away Fed missiles, that shuttle will earn an extra 2-30 glory points (rather than the normal 1-15 glory points). BUT that shuttle will definitely be destroyed. You may launch as many of these ECM shuttles as you want.

(NOTE: There was a 10% chance of Kirk and the Enterprise showing up this round, but he doesn't yet appear.)

DEADLINE IS MONDAY BY NOON EASTERN

Space Jawa
04/14/2011, 13:43
An intriguing situation.

Outfit a single shuttle to draw away the Federations missiles, launch one missile of our own to counter, and send two shuttles to follow it and intensify any damage the missile may cause. PREPARE TO ATTACK!

archaon02

Quick responses from all captains this time. I'll go ahead and post results a little later today.

Kalel21
04/14/2011, 15:01
The Feds are easily defeated, but not without losses. Though ship damage was low, the Fed missiles took out one of Tribbledoom's attack shuttles. Death from Above lost both the attack shuttles it launched (as well as the ECM shuttle). (Also, Space Jawa had some pretty unlucky Glory Point rolls.)

The alien tech is captured and stored away for the scientists of the Empire to eventually study.

NOTE: There was a 15% chance of the Enterprise showing up, but it still doesn't. Kirk must be on a hot date.

A Federation Light Cruiser--an experimental craft equipped with extra photon torpedo tubes--has arrived to try to stop the raiding party. It must, of course, be destroyed.

FED CRUISER: 25

DEADLINE IS MONDAY BY NOON EASTERN. A couple of you are approaching 40% damage, so remember the option to sit out a battle and make repairs.

04/14/2011, 15:16

Kalel21

Typo on my part. I've corrected it. You still have five missiles left.

Kalel21

The raid looks like it's coming to an abrupt end as the accursed Kirk and his garbage-scow ship the Enterprise enter the sector and hunt you down! Will you be able to survive the encounter and get home to bask in your newly-won glory?

KIRK: 60

You have two choices: Fight Kirk normally (and there's no reason not to launch all remaining missiles and shuttles).

Or RUN HOME with your tail between your legs (which gives you a PENALTY of -100 Glory Points.)

If you fight Kirk, each ship that participates gives a 2% chance of destroying him. Every missile, shuttle and decision to use risky tactics also adds an additional 2% each.

If you destroy Kirk, you get glory points calculated normally PLUS a 500 Glory Point bonus.

Deadline for deciding is Wednesday by Noon Eastern.

DarkCorsair
04/18/2011, 13:17
Alright - let's max it out. Fire the last missile, launch both shuttles, max out the risky tactics, and break out the Shakespeare quotes!

archaon02

Oh, well, if I'm only taking 3x damage then I can roll as high as 11% damage and come out of this thing. That's a 1/6 chance of surviving this #####!!! WOOHOOO, I got the same odds as a Skrull!!! (of which I am not one)

Kalel21
04/18/2011, 15:42
Actually, I was having a "bad math moment." Yes, the Tribbledoom CAN take a potential 240% damage.

archaon02

That drops my potential survivable damage to 8%. I now envy Skrulls their easy odds.

Space Jawa
