View Full Version : HCR Rates The Movies #261: KICK PonyPonyPony
So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?
Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all, is:
KICK-@$$
r163vBtYxq8
Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.
Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.
ALSO: I urge Any and All of you who have yet to do so, to go back to our older catalogue of RtM films (Very easily done by the Links List right on the top of the Rate The Movies Forum), and vote for your favorite, not so favorite, and anything in between movies. We have HEAPS there already, some Classics, some Crud, let's hear what YOU think about them ALL! :)
So, what say you all?
Next Film: ??????
Dudes, I sure hope the Mods are gonna change the PonyPonyPony back to @$$ when April Fools is over. :p

I'll give the flick an 8/10. I dug it the first time, but then it just started to be wearying. I'm kinda over it now.

Tough one for me.
I felt this movie tried to be intelligent - and maybe that's because of Mark Millar's writing still shining through Vaughn's adaptation.
I thought there were some shots and scenes that were just glorious, and I liked the beginning theme of the digital world of screens of which we hide behind as a viewer.
I hated Nick Cage's character. Absolutely hated. Not only was it pretty horrendous acting, but it was nothing like the comic version being just a grown-up foil for Kick-###.
Loved the music even if John Murphy kinda just re-edited some of his more famous stuff to fit Vaughn's taste.
I support Vaughn's desire to keep as accurate to the source material as possible rather than seek funding by Sony or Fox by making the characters older and cut to a pg-13 film.
I'm pretty torn, but I can't in all honesty say this is a spectacular film. It's a good film, I enjoyed it, and I think it does more for comic book films than Iron Man, but it's not a milestone in cinema of any kind. Probably forgettable for most people too.
8.07 out of ten.

the commercials made it look like a dumb comedy so I steered clear at first but when it came on the movie channel I figured what the heck, and man am I glad I did.
It is nothing like the lame commercial suggested, it's a cool, dark, intelligent movie that was surprisingly well written, acted, and directed.
This movie is exactly what the title suggests it is.

If nothing else, this movie was supremely entertaining in a way that engaged me on a more visceral level than your usual Hollywood blockbuster. It certainly wasn't a perfect movie, but it had a lot going for it in terms of creativity.
8/10 from me.
Having read the comics, I was prepared for it. My wife, not so much. Especially the part when he's fwapping in front of his computer LOL. Anyway, it was very well done, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't my favorite comic book adaptation ever. A solid 7.5/10 for me.

Well done movie, poor choice in titles, but that is my opinion. Lots of quality acting imo and a fun although violent movie to watch. I'll be keen to watch new movies featuring Chloe Moretz aka Hitgirl (who was also in Let Me In, which I enjoyed) in the future if she can keep up her prowess.
I give it a 7.75 mainly for the language which always detracts from a movie. After all, any movie that you can't type the title in HCRealms without getting pounded out doesn't deserve a 10.

Out of interest, why?
### isn't a swear-word in the UK. People say arse (the british equivalent) and ### and I was never aware of it being a 'swear'.
The language in the film is there because it's an 18 and it was in the book. People swear a lot in real life. I can't remember how gratuitous it all actually was, but I wasn't offended by it. But I'm a 19 year liberal Brit so maybe that's just me.
7.8/10
Needs a rewatch but enjoyed it a lot.
