Mr Deadpool

Here's a scenario that I would like an answer to....
If I have (v)Mandarin and (r)Invisible Girl set up like this
Mandarin
Invisible Girl (stealthed in a bush behind him)
My opponent targets Mandarin with a ranged attack.
Can I declare his defense in the following order:
Invisible Girl (to make him an 18)
then use his Energy/Shield Deflection to up him to a 20 defense
Or is only an 18 due to Invisible Girls Support and then he thus looses his benefit from Energy/Shield Deflection.
It would seem that he would get the best of both worlds from the rulings and there isn't anything on defense (at least that I saw) So perhaps a judge or a WK rep could look into that and let me know.
There's nothing like a 20 defense individual... with a 12 range...
Thanks,
Cat
