Hey, the original post was on topic, so you can take some prozac and calm the fudge down. There are about 100 more inane topics you can read and gripe about. Complain about how Enterprise isn't living up to your Star Trek expectations and how everything would be better if there was a "Nelix Show". Yeah I like watching wrestling. I've watched it for 5 years or more. Some of my favorite superstars are big sweaty musclebound guys. SO there.

1) Enterprise was good in the first season, but it's just lost that spark somewhere and I'm desperately hoping that it gets it back because it has so much potential to be a fantastic show.
2) It's spelled Neelix, not Nelix.

And Mick Foley really did fall from the top of a 20 foot steel cage through the Spanish announcers' table, knocking out two of his teeth (through his nose), bruising his kidneys, and seperating his shoulder and then after waking up from his KO'd state on the paramedics gurney on his way up back up the ramp return to the cage only to climb back up it and get thrown through the 'roof' of it.

The comment below is for Shin-goji's enjoyment. It happend about three or four years ago.
Chavo to Eddie Gurrero (hope I spelled that right?)
"Look Eddie, I am cheating to win". That was one of the funniest lines Chavo ever siad when he was in WCW. Sadly, Eddie lost all of my respect when he started the LWO.
Wrestling is the male soap opera. Women have their mushy day time love triangle riden gag fests. We men have the ultimate form of comedic and physical entertainment. I mean, how many soap opera stars would particiapte in a "Panties on a Pole" match. That is why wrestling is cool. It lets men be men for two hours every Monday and Thursday night!

I said some of it was real. Most of it isn't.
As someone else said - wrestling (when done passably well) is about as close to real-life comic books you're going to get. Overmuscled med and overdeveloped women in spandex, wearing their underwear in public, Good Guys & Bad Guys (capital letters intented), 'epic' battles...
You have your giant musclemen with their power moves, your small acrobatic fliers, your technical specialists...
Yes, of late the storylines have been lacking. Yes, there are many people putting on lackluster matches. But there are some great performers out there too. Which is one of the reasons I'm going to the Smackdown taping after Wrestlemania (I didn't get my tax return in time to get tickets for Wrestlemania itself).

That all depends on what you mean by 'real.' Are the outcomes pre-determined? Yes. Do they pull their punches? Yes. But you can't fake being slammed to the mat. You can't fake taking a bump. You can't fake leaping across the ring, or leaping from the top turnbuckle to the floor.
Is it choreographed? The extent of 'yes' depends on the wrestlers involved - some need every move planned out while others just go in knowing who will win and how much time they have. And does choreographed mean fake? After all, ice skating is choreographed and not only do people not call it fake, they watch it as one of the most popular Olympic events.

Speaking of great performers, you know Kurt Angle is gone after Wrestlemania, right? Maybe forever?
Apparently his neck injury is so bad that wrestling at Wrestlemania could mean paralysis or even death. And, even if he comes out of it alright, the surgery to repair the damage that's already been done will likely end his career forever.
But he decided that if he was to face that sort of risk, one way or the other, he wanted to go out on the biggest stage ever: Wrestlemania.
Personally, I feel for the guy. He's been one of the best workers ever in the business, and now he's facing the fact that his career is ending.
I like Brock. I think he's a good performer. But, I'm going to be cheering for Kurt at Wrestlemania ... 'cause it may well be the last chance that we get to do so.

Well, first it comes from Fox, so it's suspect :) But it's only two vertebrae. Edge, Austin, Rhyno, and Benoit have all had the same injury. I am not knocking it. It is a very serious injury. I have a foot long metal hooked rod in my back that has fused my spine so I know how dangerous this can be. He'll probably go see Dr Youngblood and he'll fix him up fine :)

What about Kurt Angle? His last match is at Wrestlemania? This is the first I've heard of that. What's going on. I don't feel like scrolling back through the endless posts someone explain. He's the best guy in the company, how can he be going.
Does anyone know where I can obtain the WWE T-shirts from Television in plus sizes like 4X or 5X? I know they exist because I'll look into the audience on the Smackdown or Raw or even the PPV broadcasts and see someone who is easily a 6 or 7X wearing a Hurricane T-shirt or something like that. I know www. attitudetees.com has some nice shirts but I want the ones from TV.
I believe Steve Austin is sincerely sorry for the wife beater thing, he's also paid dearly for it, he'll be single for the rest of his life. I think we shouldn't really mock that... it's sad. He was a prick, that is true, but he is paying for it.

He's been injured for quite a while, but apparently he didn't want to tell anyone at WWE about it. He's been working hurt for more than two months, but during the 'world tour' to South Africa, his arms started going numb which scared him into finally consulting with WWE physicians about it.
Well, after various X-rays and CAT scans, it was discovered that his injury was serious enough that it needed immediate surgery. As in, he should've gotten on a plane and gone back to the States right there, right then to get it taken care of by Dr. Youngblood. And, whether he got it right then or had some repair work done and went back for the major surgery later, he was going to require surgery that would end his career permanently.
He was, of course, extremely upset about it.
The matches for Smackdown the past two weeks were scheduled in order to give Brock the title (supposedly last night) before Wrestlemania so that Kurt could go get the surgery. But, Kurt decided that -- if it's going to be his last match -- he doesn't want it to be a simple 'throw-away' match on TV, he wants it to be the main event at Wrestlemania. And who can blame him?
Apparently, he and Brock worked a deal with the WWE doctors that would severely limit what Kurt could do in the ring and what Brock could do to Kurt in the ring so that they would allow Kurt to participate in the match at Wrestlemania.
WWE hasn't been reporting the injury as part of the storyline because they feel it would take away from the draw at Wrestlemania (and give a 'spoiler' to a match that's supposed to be unscripted, right?).
There's also been speculation that they'd allow Kurt to retain the title at Wrestlemania, retiring as the Champion and allowing for a tournament the next few weeks on TV to decide the next Champion (that Brock would eventually win).
Kurt Angle has been having recurring neck problems since he broke his neck back in his amateur days. Recently, I believe during the South Africa tour, his neck injury was aggrivated. When they returned to the States, Angle went in for an MRI. At least two vertebrae are broken and need fusing. Originally the plan had been for Angle to drop the title to Brock Lessner on Smackdown this week and a new opponent to be found for Brock in time for Wrestlemania. But now the Angle/Lessner match for Wrestlemania is back on. These are the facts.
Now for the speculation. Angle has been talking to people as if Wrestlemania will be his last match. He hasn't come out and said he's retiring, but has openly implied it in recent interviews. The severity of the injury is not clear. It could be and Austin/Benoit deal where a couple of vertebrae are fused and things are back to normal. But it is also possible that enough vertebrae need to be fused that it would permanently inhibit the full range of motion. Or it could be an injury that even surgery cannot render completely safe, like the injury that forced DDP to retire. Add to all of this the fact that Angle has a new daughter whom he has been able to spend very time with.
All of this strongly implies that Angle will leave the ring permanently after Wrestlemania.
Of course, 'permanently' in wrestling isn't neccessarily forever. Just look at Shawn 'if you wrestle again you'll be paralyzed for life' Michaels. ;)

The really sad part about the limited moveset he uses is that he is so much more talented than they let him be. He was an amateur champion, and in training & the minors was an accomplished technical wrestler like Benoit & Angle. People who saw him before his WWE premiere regularly rave about the Shooting Star Press he did. He is supposed to be able to do it sharper than Kidman (who uses it as his finishing move), and given his sheer size it would be truly impressive.
But since they want him to get over as a powerhouse monster they limit his moveset. Monsters beat people down, they don't crank out technical marvels.

Sometimes you're the hero. Sometimes you're the heel.
The broken ribs, teeth, and death you hear about is always fake, because wrestling is fake.

As fake as the blood that flows from the fake lacerations received from a fake chair.

I used to write an internet newsletter called "fWo Wrasslin'." Basically, WCW was so bad, that I would report the results of the matches in a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" sarcastic manner. I got about 200 subscribers through word of mouth. It ended up being one of the most read fanzines, and other similar newsletters started copying my style. After I started watching WWF I just couldn't do the newsletter anymore. WCW was so bad it was torture to watch so I folded up shop. It was fun whil eit lasted though.

Like Grinner said, not all moves like bumps and slams can be faked. Yes, the mats are padded and spring loaded but that still doesn't fully protect them.

They may be trained to fall but that doesn't mean that they will fall properly each time. It seems like at all times 1/3 of the WWE's roster is out due to injuries. Edge and Kurt Angle just got neck injuries and will be out for a year(however Angle's still going to have a match at Wrestlemania). Some of those moves seem like they would be difficult to not get hurt from, like the German suplex.
Also, in pro wrestling they don't roll around on the mat that much. Even back in the fifties they spent most of the match jumping around and faking stomping on one another.
Anyways, its nice to see other wrestling fans on this board. I'm not as big a fan as a used to be, but I still follow the WWE a little bit. I hope Booker T wins the title at Wrestlemania. I can't stand HHH.

Do they have any sort of a customer support/contact on their Shopzone site? That would be the only spot I could think of. I think this is were I differ. When I watch wrestling, it's to watch wrestling. To see em perfom, in the ring, not out of it. Allthough I like it when the rock sings. I guess the reason why I watch wrestling is because it's the closest thing we got to live superhuman combat.
I guess you can call me a spot mark which is why I loved the wcw lightwight division. Which is probalby why I cringe when the women get slapped around and see some of that ultra ecw violence stuff. Maybe the best term for me is a wrestling purist.

lord, my father was a saint, and he knew how to cheat!

If I order now, I think I can get my "Cheat to Win" t-shirt before I run the next HC Tourney.

Kind of interesting looking back at this thread. I'm starting to watch Smackdown a little more when I get the chance. I don't really care about Raw too much, although I changed my mind about HHH's title reign. I think it was good that he had the title for 9 months. It added some credibility to the title because that was the longest WWF title reign in some time.

Wresteling is just a little too homoerotic for my tastes...
... So is anyone else going to The Rocky Horror Picture Show for Halloween?
:p :p :) ;) :p

If you wish to see what the mysterious ThugIt looks like, watch Wrestlemania 17, after the TLC match there are 3 guys holding up signs that say "Christian get the Rhyno". I'm the guy holding the Christian part of the sign.
This is right up there with my wedding as the highlight of my sad life.... ;)

Did any of you catch the ladder match on RAW last week?
It was awesome
Wrestling is a great way to relax . most chicks i know would watch it on a regular basis as well (mostly for their pecs) .
Shin-Goji , check out the Solaris rules for MechWarrior and see if you can come up with a similiar one for Sentinels . I'm looking for a way to use mine in a wrestling match ;) it'll be a heckuva fun match!!!!!!!!

He the reason I watch RAW. Much like Rey Jr. is the reason I watch Smackdown.
Backlash 2002, debut of Brock Lesnar...I was there!
I had my arm in a cast at the time (long story), and brought the sign "Lesnar Broke My Arm" with me. I swear that I would have been on TV if we had closer seats.
WWE needs Sabu! And New Jack! At least there's XPW and TNA.

However I don't like how he recently won the title back. I want Shawn Michaels to win the title tonight, but I doubt it will happen because:
1. HHH's current reign is only a couple of weeks old.
2. Its all about the game

What a time for me to chime in!
Wrestling is fake, yes, but people who think it's homoerotic fantasy are ignoring the athletic abilities of the individuals involved. It's fun to watch Bret Hart's hold-counterhold style of matches. It's amazing to see Rey Rey bounce on the ropes with ease. I watch for the technique, not to stare at ###.
Granted, the show sucks since the brand division, and less wrestlers in each promotion means more injuries. Attendance is down, so it's off to smaller venues, so they can say they sold the place out. Here's hoping they shape up and give us a better product in the new year.

IT's not that people hate wrestling and all of wrestling... It's just that, and all of you may agree, that wrestling sucks now! everyone knows that in the last 5 years wrestling has gone straight to hell. The day that they split RAW and Smackdown I knew it was over! They even tried to fix their mistake i.e. the lackluster return of the NWO! Scott Steiner and Hulkamania returning, the most successful being Hogan but even their most recent attempt is bad; Goldberg. I remember the days of Razor Ramon and the 123 Kid and casket matches! Real ladder matches none of that Hardy Carp!. But now the storylines are whack as all hell and everything is going into its 8th bajillion rotation, I don't have to watch RAW anymore because there is only 6 possible matches so every three months or so I will watch to see if there are any new wrestlers and anything worth seeing! I'm tired but I had to say that I can further elaborate on this in the morning.
P.S.
Smackdown has a storyline going around carppy John Cena now that is how pathetic it has gotten!

Hopefully the National Wrestling Alliance will be able to get a TV deal with WGN. That way there will be something for wrestling fans other than WWE.
Has anyone ever watched Lucha Libre? I think the 3 on 3 matches are pretty interesting. Plus its something besides WWE.

Anyone who says wrestling's fake has obviously had their head stuck in the porcelain bowl one too many times. Yes the results are predetermined...DUH!! But most wrestlers have to execute extraordinary acts of athletics to get to those finishes. And the pain is very real. Before I became medically disabled I was training to be a manager/referee and have known quite a few guys and gals in the game (not to where I hang out with them consistantly or anything though. lol) Wrestling (especially Raw) is a fast paced show mostly done on the fly. Raw's the ONLY live show that has lasted in the ratings for over 10 years now and SmackDown is taped that way and house shows (which were their drawback but have drastically improved) are the same. And as far as wrestling sucking right now...we may not have the "all time greatest moments" but even Mark Mcgwire and Barry Bonds can't hit every time they step up to the plate much less hit home runs every time. Such is the case with the shows. Tonight's show was very good from alot of standpoints. And as far as wrestling being nothing more than musclebound guys in spandex and all of that, apparently you guys didn't watch the 6 woman Happy Holidays match tonight did you? I didn't think so. (Santa never had it THAT good EVER!) It's like how WWE wants Wrestlemania XX to be the best ever and it's going to be 5 hours long. Will WMXXI next year be able to compete with that? No, of course not so to most people it will "suck". No matter how bad people think they themselves are, they diss wrestling when in reality they wouldn't last 2 days on Tough Enough much less in the old Funkn Conservatory or goodness forbid that Stu Hart were still alive and they spent a day with him. lol
And yes I hope NWA succeeds more because the competition is great. Their X Division is phenomenal!
Oh one more rant, for all of the people who think wrestlers are just stupid, try checking out MSNBC pretty consistently to see Bradshaw on there or check out his book on finances. Or practically every other superstar because 90 percent of them have college degrees of all sorts and away from the action are some of the most articulate and smart people you'd ever want to know.
I only say all of this because being someone who was formerly very close to the business and still enjoys watching, I had a very unique vantage point that even most of the "smart" fans don't. And a few of the funniest stories ever in my own humble opinion. lol

Jeez, I hate finding these topics this late in the convo...
1. I can proudly say that I watch pro wrestling. It's fake, but only in the sense that it's predetermined. Pretty much everything those guys do requires an amazing amount of athleticism and a decent amount of acting skill, and I respect that. I can definitely see that WWE has seen better days, but I'm sticking with it for what entertainment value there still is (RVD, Rey Mysterio, Hurricane, etc.). I'm trying to start following some of the indy feds, but noone ever tapes the shows and I'm too cheap to buy them. Heh.
2. Enterprise is carp, plain and simple. I gave it a shot all the way through the first season, and I've watched the random episode here and there, and I haven't seen anything even remotely close to equaling anything in TNG or DS9's runs. Voyager was decent for a while, but it lost it's steam when they started forcing 7 on us and making the Borg seem less and less threatening. Curse you Rick Berman and Jeri Taylor! ::Shakes fist angrily!::
3. As far as the Divas go, gimme Trish any day of the week. True, they've all got their good points, but there's something about the short ones... ::Hormonal overload.::
Shin, as always, I admire you for sticking to your guns and not being afraid to be an @$$hole about it. Keep it up, I'm lacking another @$$hole role model at the moment. LOL.
Yeah, wrestling is great. Fake violence is great. Girls in scantily clad clothing are great. I think anyone who reads comics cannot comment on wrestling.
I am really glad Kurt still can wrestle as he is one of the best workers of all time. He can carry anyone, even A TRAIN to a good match. Thats impressive. Brock is a very talented wrestler as well, and he is the future of the company ( One of them ) I find it eerie that someone mentioned that Brock does the Shooting Star Press as a move here PRIOR to Wrestlemania and the huge botching. SCARY. Benoit is also an amazing competitior. He deserves a run with the belt, even if brief.
The best wrestlers and performers IMO are Kurt, Brock, Cena, Benoit, Haas and Benjamin, Eddie and Chavo, Rey, Jericho, Matt Hardy, HBK as of late, and Orton. HHH pisses me off, hes such a backstage politician its crazy. His long title reign helped establish importance to the belt, but his win over Booker AFTER they played the race card on him is BS. Evolution is a really good gimmick tho, so he is showing potential, especially with his program with Goldberg. Kane is finally showing alot of promise, despite that horribly extended Shane McMahon fued which was great until they ran it 2 months too long. I am dead tired of Austin tho, and we need The Rock back, he is just too good of performer, especially now that he takes breaks for the movies so he is less stale. Heel Rocky is amazing.
Smackdown has the more talented wrestlers in general, but RAW has better storyline...occasionally :P The Jericho Trish stuff is nice. The brand split btw is a VERY good idea, it provides a bit of competition and gives more mid carders a chance to advance. It will definitely better the company in the long run. With less McMahons on TV lately the WWE is improving. Its wrestling talent is getting better, young guys like Cena and Orton and Brock are getting pushes, and Goldberg is proving to be able to get over with the fans strongly. The future is looking brighter. Especially with TNA/NWA getting bigger to be competition in the future.

Two words: Rocky Sux!
I agree with everything though. Rock as a heel is the only way I can even tolerate him.
John Cena is great.
He must have stealth, because "you can't see me!"
*Waits for groans*
WWE needs some more cruiserwieghts. Amazing Red vs. Rey would be a dream match.
Taz needs to drop the mike, hit the gym (hard!), and return to the ring. In 1999, he was the "Baddest Man on the Planet",
in four short years, he turns into the "Baddest Commentator on the Planet".

Ah, some people who enjoy their bi-weekly doses of foul language and fake fighting. I've been a fan most of my life, I can remeber watching a Ric Flair match when I was 4. I even have the Iron Shiek's autograph somewhere in my room.
Bring back Steph! She has nice big boobies!

I have alredy got Shawn Michaels' autograph and Brock Lesnar's too but I also wore a a HBK shirt ( Don't hunt what you can't kill.) in a tourney and and won! So there WWE is fun to watch and HBK gives me really good luck.

I only watch it for the T&A, those broads are HOT!
After watching wrestling for the last 25 years I can honestly say that it rules! Anybody that says wrestling is fake is an idiot, and I want them to look at the guys that have been seriously injured, crippled or (and I hope this never happens again) killed in the ring and tell them that what they do is fake. Man I wish I would have seen this thread when it first came out and been able to reply at the moment someone dissed wrestling. The outcomes may be predetermined but that doesn't detract from the athletism the wrestlers have. And there are moments when I swear to God that football, baseball and basketball outcomes are predetermined so it's all relative. They need to bring back the Macho Man/Steamboat fued, now that was great television.
