and any other house mod that exist outside the rules.
Do these really make it more fun for some or just a crutch for weak players to use so they don't have to go against well build teams.
i personally could care less if someone brings 3 researchers, or two wolverines to a game, they still have to win with it.

Said this on another recent thread, but I'm not a big fan of highlander rules. Build what you want to build, in accordance with the general "vibe" of your play group.

I have 4 GSX Lockheeds and 3 GSX Bonebreakers. I would love to be able to swarm a map with little dragons or runaway tank men. It would be fun! I've got about 7 HA Rocket Raccoons! Can you imagine a map covered with Rockets and Lockheeds - hell that should be thematic all by itself (even without the Animal keyword!)
Highlander just sucks potential fun out of the game.

See how that logic works?

Munchkins will always be munchkins. This will not change.
That said, I'm not all for instituting systems designed to deter munchkins when they'll just figure out ways to get around it.
If I want to play 4x Lockheed as part of a Dragonforce (TM), let me. If you say I can't, then I have no interest being part of your (general "your") play group.

Depends on which version of the highlander "rule" you want to play under.
SP: "To the Moon, Alice" Any attack by Ralph Kramden deals knock back equal to the number of married/divorced men playing in the tournament.

Exactly. Some of the cheesiest pieces of monkey crap walking the face of the earth would never even think of using duplicate figures.

Munchkins will always be munchkins. This will not change.I see points of both sides. Each has different nuances and plays into the specific points of entertainment value each player seeks in the game. I just wanted to point out that flat statements about fun are subjective and shouldn't be used as objective "rebuttals." The logic in such statements goes both directions.
If I want to play 4x Lockheed as part of a Dragonforce (TM), let me. If you say I can't, then I have no interest being part of your (general "your") play group.Dragonforce would rock!
In my opinion, "highlander" rules are only "needed" when you have players with too divergent entertainment goals within the game participating in the same play group. If there is a mix of 'min/max' and 'comic theme' players, it may be appropriate to have a 'highlander' rule. The argument for 'comic accuracy' in using duplicates of a given character can be just a cover for a min/maxer.
If everyone is 'casual' then really no restriction is needed. Even if duplicates are played, the are likely to be played in a 'fun' manner, not a min/maxing manner. For example: Dragonforce, not a 'mystical' theme of Captain Marvel, Jason Bloodx2, Scarlet Witchx2.
I sometimes try to tweek the nose of some players by referring to min/maxing dupes as spamming. Similar to how n00bs in Halo just run backwards throwing grenades or shooting the rocket launcher: spamming one attack over and over because it takes little game mastery and is more effective than skill would indicate.
Spamming in clix can also be using the same few highly effective characters in every constructed force. This gets pretty boring for other players, in my experience. To out myself, in the past I have spammed EV Deathstroke A LOT. My usual opponent has spammed the old Domino so much that I "banned" her from my kitchen table until a new version comes out. I am dreading the games when we finally get to start using GSX for that reason.

I naturally play with highlander for the most part, but one of my goals from dc 75 was dinosaurs, and so I ran three beast boy trexs :D

As I a have said in the past. Highlander Rules are great for players/venues that want a certain style of play that is more comic book related than generic war game. If you want to know what I mean just look at the link in my sig. Great wealth of detail on what we use as our Highlander Rule.
(and no, we don't run Highlander 100% of the time)
Do these really make it more fun for some?
I love House Rules including Highlander
I finished in the Top 16 at GenCon the one time I went.
Ergo the argument about House Rules being a crutch is DUMB!!!!!!
Can we close the thread now.

Sure, that's true at times.
But what if the figs in question aren't the most efficient?
Or what if using multiples of a figure - regardless of efficiancy/non-efficiancy - is just plain comic accurate?

Then House Rule them to be played.
Perhaps you miss the whole point of House Rules...
To make the game enjoyable for the Group that is hosting the event.
If you dont like playing with House Rules then dont play with House Rules.
Just as those who dont like playing without House Rules shouldnt play without them.
Make your own personal exceptions to when you will play and where you will play, but dont pretend like both sets of rules dont work (House Rules and No-House Rules)....because they both work just fine. (for the most part)
