View Full Version : Why i don't like going to strange venues...

I love playing Heroclix, I'll admit, considering i'm lurking these boards all and every day. So I'll go out of my way for a decent game. Being home for spring break(miami), i decide to look up events, and see a nice ol' 200 pt. constructed tourney to go to. I show up, seems to be mostly nice players(if a little cheap, considering all of them had firelords before the judge announced a ban on it). I wanted to be a little original, so i pulled out my LE Doctor Doom, ready for action. Lots of oohing and aahing over the fig, a few trade and cash(30-40 buck) offers, but what can i say, i loved the fig. Turns out to be 400 pt. so i bust out with the real thing, V Dr. Doom, and put my lil mini-doom back in his box. Game goes ok, took 2nd, no problem, kept my figs close to me, but relaxed as i played, even ventured to a bathroom once and to chat with the judge after a game, whily my LE is sitting in his box in my collection box in the corner. Before i leave, i peek in the box, see a base and a doombot, it's all good. Come home, about set for a pickup game, shake out the LE box....and get my Doombot....and a V Wasp base. *sigh*, and tomorrow i go back to school, not that annoying the people in the venue would be of any help, but they all knew i was just there for that night, so i guess they figured it'd be worth a shot. So there's my story: anyone have any more fun stories like this to share? To think, i thought there was a heroclix geek code...

Not nearly as horrifying... but
When I was first introduced to Heroclix a few months ago, I bought a booster pack, just to check them out while a tournament went on.... I asked someone how to play and about the pieces, and he asked to see the pieces.... but when I went back to watching the tournament... he left. That's why I initially didnt want to even play heroclix.
But then the polyurathane crack set in... and now I need my fix! Quick, someone play a game with me! I need it.. or... or *Gasp* I'll have to... go buy more!

Carp, dude. That seriously sux. I have a Doom and if anyone took him, I'd have to get all primal on someone's head! Here's hoping you win another one!

email the judge there, maybe he can figure it out for you: Not everybody has a LE Doom, so it would be obvious if someone got one all of a sudden !
If anybody even looks funny at my V Dr.Doom I will incinerate them !!
killing is only allowed for Nightcrawlers and LE Dr.Dooms !;)

Generally a good idea to never let your stuff out of your sight (I know, I know, hindsight is 20/20, blah blah) regardless of how well you know the store and its people. After all, usually you only know them as fellow gamers, can you really vouch for their honesty and lack of intentions to steal your stuff, if given the opportunity?

Obviously someone saw it happen. No matter how good you are, you're going to be seen opening up the box, taking the base out, putting another base in, and putting it back. If it were me, I'd offer a reward for info leading to you get the Doom back like a unique or LE. I guess it'd have to be decent for someone to give up someone who plays there all the time.
reward? not a chance... If someone steals something from me, I'm not going to reward someone for fessing up to it. Someone should come forth and spew whatever info they have.
Getting a present for stealling something isn't the most encouraging thought.

That's too bad. At my venue, stuff has recently started disappearing from everybody's stuff, as well as from the venue's shelves. It's really unfortunate, as we've gone from a really relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to one where everybody has to keep there stuff in sight constantly and nobody trusts each other.
Condolences, bud. I keep my goodies in a complicated box with a complicated lock... and the venue manager isn't shy about announcing that anyone found shoplifting goes to jail... and anyone found stealing from another player has his choice of explaining himself to the cops, or a shot in the chops and being forever banned from the store.
No one has ever stolen from me, fortunately... but I recall a story from the Mage Knight boards. Guy had a Techun, a high-demand, powerful unique. Kid keeps bugging him to trade for it, right? No one at that venue had ever even SEEN a Techun, aside from our hero's.
In a fit of pride, our hero had painted his techun in fiery colors, very distinctive.
Kid keeps bugging him, week after week, to sell or trade the thing. No dice. Our hero loves his Techun.
... and one week, the thing disappears. He only had his eyes off it for a few seconds. Naturally, he's upset.
A few minutes later, the kid goes and buys a booster... and announces that he has pulled a Techun. There is much rejoicing and congratulating... until our hero notices that the new Techun is painted in fiery colors, totally unlike the factory job.
The venue owner is aware of our hero's Techun, and agrees that an injustice has been done. The kid screeches and squawks and swears he had nothing to do with theft or evil, but the treasure is pried from his hands, and returned to its owner. Unfortunately, the owner is prevented from tearing the child's gonads off and making him eat them, and must settle for seeing the store manager complain to the child's mother.
When one speaks of his honor... make him pay cash.

Each and every gaming venue I've ever been to has been strange.
Oh...you meant unfamiliar, didn't you? My bad. :D

Well mine are pretty much out in the open, however I don't seem to have that problem out here. Then again, I carry around a really big gun and keep twitching my neck every couple of minutes, so that may have something to do with it all. All you have to do is shoot someone in the leg as soon as you walk into the venue, and within a week the rumors will be that you kill anyone that tries to steal your HeroClix.
Ok... so maybe this story was stretched a little bit. Maybe I was the one that got shot by that maniac, but the moral is still the same. If you don't want someone to steal your stuff, you simply break their hands off!

You obviously can't read, so I'll go slowly for you:
"Offer a reward for the INFORMATION leading to the return of the Doom."
Obviously any reasonable person wouldn't give the thief a reward for returning it. Sweet Jeebus, use some sense man....

That is cold.
It makes me wonder how some people can live with themselves. Granted, it is just a couple inch tall piece of plastic, but its just the Idea that someone would stoop to that level to get something that they wanted rather than go out and acquire it by legal means.
Oh well. You know what they say,
What goes around comes around, and something of similar nastiness will probably happen to this person, unfortunately for you, you arent guaranteed to be there when it happens.
My condolances on your loss, and let it be known to anyone thinking on swiping my nightcrawler.....
I can do wonderful things with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.
That's why I don't take all my clix in the store with me.Build the team you need to take in and put the rest in the trunk of your car or the cab of your pickup. Then if you need something they'll be there for you.
I hate miami. Well, most of south florida altogether too.
What was the name of the venue?

Are you insane? Have you ever been here? What's the weather like in King of Prussia today BTW?
But yeah what is the name of the venue. I live in Broward and have my own little "problems" with several local venues. I also have played Magic in most places in Miami so maybe I can help.
