View Full Version : Whose the best low cost barrier figure?

I think barrier is the most underutilized power in the game. What other power makes an opponent waste an action to get to a figure, on top of giving you a defensive bonus?
Who do you see as a good, low cost barrier figure? My favorite is Veteran Avalanche, as he also has pulse wave, and an under 40pt. cost. Who do you recommend?
AV Scarlet Witch. 35 points, prob, barrier, flight, avengers TA and keword with Brotherhood and mystical.
LE George Tarleton, Baby!!! MODOK before he became MODOK!

when I make a Brotherhood team(which I make a lot) its always R Pyro,27 points 8 range and two clicks just in case you need to push.

For Modern Age, probably the Avengers Scarlet Witch. For Golden Age, the George Tarleton LE slvrsr4 mentioned if you can get your hands on one. Otherwise, the rookie Avalanche is pretty darn efficient as well (and easier to find.)

I always was a sucker for rookie pyros from Infinity Challenge. He had an 8 range and was cheap enough to run more than one. Another option is rookie blizzard from Clobbering Time or Xplosion (can't member)

You're right :(
Caught me in my own game :cheeky:

Too bad the barrier comes down once John gets an action marker. Or did they fix that now?

Here's your man. Free move gives him some mobility options, stealth protects him from range, His outwit will make him a stud on a brotherhood team and the barrier also makes him play nice with the old school brotherhood. Just don't push him.

yeah this is the new errata
The Architect reads: ―Once during your turn, if John
Stewart has no action tokens, he can use Barrier as a free
action until the beginning of his next turn, but places only
2 blocking terrain markers.‖
*btw lol i completely forgot the OP wanted best barrier figures under 40pts lol.... not just best barrier figures -_- :p*

I thought they had fixed it but couldn't remember for sure. thanks for posting the errata. REP
Vet Blizzard. For 53 points you get 8 range, 4 clicks of barrier that he can use MoE to push and keep using if he has to, and he starts with 11 attack and pulse wave. If that's not enough, you can Thunderbolt him. I love Blizzard!

I always used vet avalanche. 8 range and free movement for 32 points is nice. I use to make a nice lil squre of figs with R invisible girls in terrain to give evryone 19 def. Scarlett witch, LE Laura Brown sniping, Jane, R Johnny alpha, And LE Jane Foster. I'd send out my Firelords and just wreck people. Back in the day a 19 def was great. Only problem I ever had was facing teams with alot of EE or pulse wave. But with Jane Foster i could usually manege it pretty well.

Good ole Tom Cassidy is my go to for barrier as well. Now that we have a good Juggernaut I love teaming them together and yelling "TOM!!" (in my Juggernaut voice) every time he gets hit. lol

I like using Magma figures (Any of the REV's) for barrier when playing Larfleeze. They can keep him safe while his constructs go do their things and they even look like Orange constructs themselves!

Floronic Man...
but seriously, Nightshade is good (mystics TA), Ice is good (barrier as well as cool incap) and also LE Sue Storm has a 19 DV with Barrier... as well as other mentioned...

Plus, he's crazy easy to medic back up.

Dude, he has a "hard to find rare value of 5!"
"Very few exist!" It's also our only "change" to get it, so we shouldn't "think twice!"

If I didn't have to put food on my table and pay my mortgage, I would have bought it already. how could I pass up a Rarity Value of 5?!
What does that even mean, anyway?!

Im surprised no one mentioned Sargon the Sorcerer. Barrier and Probability control makes him pretty neat. He is 57 points but is worth it. As far as im aware, he never loses barrier through his whole dial, and if you do lose PC you get perplex. He can phase/teleport and AND has the mystic team ability. Whats not to like? Ive personally never used the whole object switch thingy but I'm sure there are gonna be situations where thats gonna be useful.
Black Tom Cassidy for the win though! Besides the barrier, he's got the outwit, stealth and brotherhood keyword!
In some ways wouldn't it be better to have a couple low cost barrier figs like Avalanche so you can toss a barrier up every turn?

And that's wat makes vet Blizzard so great. You can either pace him and throw a barrier up every other turn, or you can push him for 4 turns straight since he has Masters of Evil as his TA. When he finally hits his last click of barrier, have your medic heal him up. Shouldn't be hard to hit his 13 defense.

I've mostly used Rookie Magma and Rookie Iceman for cheap barrier that you don't mind eating for X-Healing later in the game.

The seller's English aside, I am pretty sure the auction is for 5 copies of the figure. So you get 5 of them for $50. That is how I read it.
Then again, reading it again makes me question that interpretation...
