FISH vs DONUTS - The Mafia Game Thread!!

Welcome to Mafia 101, class. Please open your text books and begin taking notes! :cool:

First off, the basic rules for any of my Mafia games:

1. If you are killed/lynched/eliminated during the game, you will not be able to fulfill your game condition and therefore you WILL NOT be able to win the game. Entiende?

2. If you need to know how to play "Mafia", well, you can either look at the zillion threads that have cropped up on it or you can get the actual rules here: http://MAFIA SCUM (http://mafiascum.net/)

3. Remember that you may not PM anyone during the game unless your write-up - or something sent to you by the game moderator (that would be me) - says that you can do so. Doing otherwise is cheating and will lead to horrible things, like disembowelment and being fed screaming to Hungry Joe Quesada!!

4. You may not discuss this game - except in allowed PM's - outside of this thread; that includes "real life" conversation or casual mentioning of your role to a buddy.

5. Votes for lynching someone must be BOLDED or they do not count!

6. Once you're dead, you need to not only refrain from discussing the game -at all- (this includes no PM's to former team members or chatting in other threads about it) but from posting on the game thread. This is considered cheating and will get you banned from any future mafia games that I run.

7. There is no editing of posts allowed in the thread. Yes, that means we can all point fun at each other's typos - even changing them is not allowed - but it's the standard rule and a good one so I'm sticking by it.

8. If you have to PM me an action, be sure to do so before the Day/Night Phase is up or I'll assume that you did nothing but sit on your read end. Simultaneously, if you're restricted in posting or have a rule that adjusts your actions, be sure to follow it.

INTRODUCTION

Episode IV, A FRESH NEW CATCH

It is a period of civil war in the Aquatic Guppy Republic. Rebel fishy spaceships, striking from a hidden underwater base, have won their first victory against the evil Deep-fried Donuctic Empire. During the battle, Rebel fishy spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH CRULLER, an armored space station with enough creme-filled power to destroy an entire aquarium world. Pursued by the Deep-fried Donuctic Empire’s sinister agents, Obi Juan Cheep-Cheep races home aboard his Calamari starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save his people and restore freedom to the Galaxy'o'Fish….

Suddenly, a blue tractor beam cuts through the cold blackness of space and latches unto the Calamari starship, slowly yet surely bringing it into the depths of the DEATH CRULLER.

A voice steeped in evil blares over the link-comms of the starship: "GET IN MAH BELLY!!"

Obi Juan Cheep-Cheep nearly jumps our of his fish bowl. He recognizes the sound of that voice. It is none other than that his mortal enemy. With a grimace, Obi Juan reaches out with his fin and opens a channel of communication.

"Do your worst! We shall resist you until the last bubble escapes from our aqua-lungs!!!"

"So! It is you!" a sinister, deep throated laughter answers in turn. "I've been waiting for you, Obi Juan. We meet again, at last. The beignet is now complete. When I left you, I was but the kreppel; now *I* am the master Klenat."

"Only a master Klenat of EVIL, you cholesterol-filled bucket of lard!!!"

It is to no avail. The dastardly Deep-fried Donuctic Empire has won this round. Even so, just as the gaping maw of the space port closes, an escape pod is jettisoned from the Calamari starship. Undetected by the enemy's sensors, the pod makes straight for the nearest inhabited aquatic world. It carries a message of hope and a summons to battle. The time has come to stand up to the forces of evil. Who will choose to answer the challenge and refuse to take the bait and hook?

CharlesX is DEAD!!! He was Obi-Juan Cheep-Cheep (Fish), once proud member of Super Mario World's Mahi Knights of the Aquatic Guppy Republic, captured and brought low by those who would turn heroes into filet'o'fish.

For the new players: oftentimes (but not always) a player's reluctance to give any information in response to pressure votes, is a sign that they're hiding something. Perhaps they are mafia, or an SK, or a cult leader. Sometimes though, the player is just being stubborn, but without knowing individual players' styles, it's hard to tell. This is why it's hard to just be a master with 1-2 games under your belt. A lot of it depends on learning to "read" people.

I only have one vote on me at the moment, so no need for me to actually claim anything because there is not enough pressure to do so...YET. So it's up to the rest of you to decide whether to pressure me enough where I'd be forced to claim (which could be bad if I have an important town role like Cop or Doctor), OR, just assume I am town and leave me alone (which could be a mistake if I am scum). Scum is just another game for a non-town player with a win condition adverse to the town's.

Of course this general strategy applies to anyone being pressured, not just me.

P.S. Although Foom is not a fish, I'm not wearing any boxer shorts in this game... :p For those not in the know, I killed Truffle in another game where I was Foom and I would kill players by stuffing them in my shorts... This is what happens when you write overly long posts like I like to do... :cheeky:

See now the pressure is mounting so I have several choices. If I am town, I may want to claim right away to not have the town waste time on me. But I don't want to claim too fast or too soon cause then that could be perceived as a weakness or as desperation.

You basically want to claim an appropriate piece of information in relation to the corresponding amount of pressure on you. For example this early, a name claim may suffice to get me off the "pressure" hook, though admittedly some of these Foom victims may be out for some blood. :laugh:

If I am 2 votes away from lynch, and there's strong evidence against me but I am just checking in from being away all day, I may want to give a name and power claim (being careful not to quote my role PM, which is a modkillable offense). And to be safe, I'd probably want to give some targets as well. Targets are a good piece of information because they tell you about the player and targeting can often be confirmed by other players.

On the other hand, If I am mafia (or cult or a town-harmful neutral), I may want to stall, especially this early in the game where there have been no janitorings or kills, so the odds of me successfully pulling of a fake claim as a lie are very very low. I.e. everyone is still alive, so if I claim doctor, the actual town doctor would come forward and say, nah, Silver is lying. Likewise if I claim Nemo, the real Nemo will come forward and bust me.

In such a case, it may be enough for me to fake claim someone who I think is not in the game, but "might" be. For example, I claim Dorothy, Elmo's pet goldfish. It's a claim that it probably not in the game, but I know Charles has little kids and has seen more than his fair share of Elmo videos so I am gambling, that 1) Dorothy is not in the game, but 2) Dorothy is a plausible enough claim that it may be sufficient for people to take pressure off me. Be aware that one of the hardest things in the game is coming up with a fake role claim and power claim when you are not town.

Silver's train is more than halfway, and there is really no reason to put any more pressure on him. Day 1 lynches are more than likely bad for the Town, as there is only usually a 1 in 4 chance that the town will randomly catch Scum with all players still active.

Day 1 is usally reserved for shinannigans and other fun making while all the players figure out that the game started.

For the new players: Some of the "apparent" town members :cheeky: are making the argument that a lobster is a crustacean and not a "fish," and thus I cannot possibly be town. You will often find yourself in a similar circumstance either attacking someone's claim or defending your own. However, the fact that these players are doing this despite the fact that:

A) There is no real information against me, and
B) I truthfully claimed when I got to 1/2 vote pressure.

Makes those guys pressuring me a little suspect. Right know that doesn't mean anything because no one can see my alignment and no one knows if I am truly town or not (except for the Mod and I of course), but this will be valuable information if I go on to get lynched or killed, and my alignment is revealed to be town.

As for my role, I don't know why Charles choose Red Lobster for a townie role, I imagine that to Charles, if you're seafood then you qualify as fish.

Regardless I am town. I will power claim if people continue to vote for me but I would rather not have to at this point.

It seemed like just another cheerful day on the aquatic world of Fish'nchipooine. The Calamarian escape pod had landed undetected not too far from the most populated of the underwater cities. Likewise, global net defenses had failed to activate at the arrival of a small group of cloaked hyperspace fighter craft. The "O" shaped fighters quickly descended from orbit and plunged beneath the waves, engaging stealth submarine modes. They here hot on their quarry's trail and were ready to give unrelenting pursuit.

There was much talk and discussion among the fish, but the first day of what could be their last stand on Fish'nchipooine transpired without much ado.

Day One is DONE!!!

NIGHT ONE

It is a busy evening in Fish’chipooine City. On the corner of Coral Reef Drive and Barracuda Boulevard, a chatty individual stops a passer-by and asks him for directions. The passer-by stops and does his best to help out. The chatty individual then asks him whether what the weather tonight will be other than damp and wet. Before the passer-by can get a word in, the chatty guy says that he is hungry and are there any fast food joints around. Then he rubs his tummy and asks if there is also a drugstore nearby because he has heartburn. Then he blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda…. The passer-by never gets anywhere tonight.

On the other side of the street, a wee little guy is swimming aimlessly through the water, twirling this way and that, looping the loop, doing barrel turns, all the time whistling merrily. Just as the little guy passes a heap of refuse a claw reaches out and pinches him on the behind.

“OUCH!!” yells the little guy, startled. When he turns to see who did it, there is no one around. Greatly annoyed, he heads back home.

Elsewhere….

The two friends are trying to formulate a plan of action. One of them is very serious about what they should be doing. Before they can finally agree about the next steps to follow, a huge net swoops out of nowhere and scoops them up. The two are nowhere to be seen for the rest of the night.

Yet elsewhere…

The young lady is swimming as fast as she can. She knows that there is something terribly wrong. If only she can get a message to the one person that she trusts… The young lady stops suddenly in front of a metal object with a round torso – something that looks like a cross between a mailbox and a cylindrical garbage container propped up on three legs. This is precisely what she needs! Breathlessly, she comes to a halt and crouches down, looking around to see if she is being pursued. The young lady slips a thin, flat, rectangular item into the metal object.

“Help me, Obi Juan Cheep-Cheep, “ she whispers. “You are my only –“

Her words are cut short by a deadly barrage of red energy bolts. What remains of her floats down sadly to lie forever under the sea.

Truffle Shuffle is DEAD!!! She was Ariel the Little Mermaid (Fish), a bright, young and brave Princess who is no longer part of this world.

For the new players: Since Truffles started the lynch train on me, the fact that she got killed, is seen as a frame job on me, to put suspicion on me for her death. Often times the mafia or Serial killer (SK) will exploit people going after each other in a thread by killing one to make the other seem guilty.

I assure you that is not the case however, I know better than to kill Ms. Truffles in back to back games and invoke her eternal ire. ;)

Plus her going after me was too vocal for her to be scum.

He was postulating that one of the failed kills could be against someone that was Jailkept or that a kill failed because the killer was Jailkept. Being he failed against finding Wade, he was suspecting Wade was Jailkept.

Based on the write-up, I'm thinking Wade is both Dory and Marlin.

The only thing is that I felt the person with the net wouldn't be Town but, rather, probably Mafia. So that means one of the missing kills (and, really, there could be only one - the Vig may have chosen to not Kill last Night) if it was against Wade was committed by the SK and Truff's death was by the Mafia.

Or the SK killed Truff and the Mafia were RB'ed from their kill, with the Wade JK'ing having nothing to do with any failed kills.

Slightly concerned that the Mafia maybe stopped the Vig - or the SK - in the opening bit. The rotund individual stopping someone - an apparent block that I'm not sure why it would make its' way into the write-up unless stopping something important - smacks of being done by a "person" and not a "fish"...a donut-eating type, perhaps.

You're right; there should have been two required death attempts (a Mafia and an SK). The Vig not making an attack doesn't seem odd.

Oh yes. Even assuming a Vig with the optional kill, there still should have been two deaths. I'm just wondering how basic this game is though. Serial Killer is a staple in my mind, but I can see it as a bit more advanced role.

Honestly, we've had SK's in the Realms games since Game 1 (Cults too). I know to a lot of us, they're a staple.

i think kness had blocked rokk, and since there should have been at least one more death, it was possible he had stopped a kill.

rokk has claimed he did nothing though, cause he has 4, one-shot abilities.
