And no, that is not translated from Swedish. It's "Trouble in LA".

Also, Colin Quinn's comparing the state of world politics to a bar at 3:30 AM was genius.

I think it was Chris Hardwick (the spouse watches a -lot- of "Chelsea Lately" so I, inevitably, run across some of their segments and one of them was that. He's funny enough on the few times I've seen "Web Soup" or the bit I've paid attention to his appearances on Lately but not a consistent watch for me.)

Also, Colin Quinn's comparing the state of world politics to a bar at 3:30 AM was genius.

I hate to say it considering previously I was never a big Quinn fan but the whole routine was pretty much genius...and I think should be required watching as it does a darn good job summarizing a lot of "What the Hell are people thinking?" that folks miss.

The bit about Plato's Cave and the Economic Summit? Awesome!

Or the way the Middle East treats Israel like the "**** ex-girlfriend whom they just can't stop being obsessed with"...

In other news, Teen Titans Mafia has begun. Aka "The first game all year from JoH where you might have heard of the characters before."

Fellas (and ladies) - finally the new job offer came in on Monday of this week. After some negotiation, an agreement was reached yesterday. I sent over my signed letter of acceptance this morning. This means that I will have no unemployed downtime after my current job is done next Friday, that I no longer have to worry about having unemployed downtime, and that I was not forced to take a cut in pay to have a full-time employee position at the new firm. A collective sigh of relief has been breathed in my household.

I worked for 5 months pulling parts in a warehouse and helping automate their Bill of Material system, got laid off, 2 months later I got the job I have now. I work in Configuration Management.

Grad school is an option, and if my daughter had not been born last year, I'd be in there right now. I'd go for either Accounting, or Logistics and Supply Chain management, probably the latter.

Big problem there is finances. No matter where I go, it's way expensive and until I get a higher paying job, it's a hard sell to my wife.

I don't know what configuration mangement is. Can you explain it in laymens terms?

I can identify a bit with what youre saying. After I graduated from college I went to work at a managed healthcare company for 3 years, became a supervisor was doing okay, but it got to the point where I felt I needed something more challenging. It felt like something was missing. I found myself thinking "I don't want to do this for the next 40 years...". Configuration Management is managing the plans and processes of a certain chain of events. For example, let's say you work in a shoe factory. First you need to procure the leather, cut it, shape it, condition it, sew it, etc... All the elements from start to finish is what configuration management deals with. Also, we catalogue the information. So for X shoe you would use Y rubber, and C leather. We catalogue when the design originated, what updates have been added, anything and everything. It's kind of fun with all the ins and outs, but I know I can make more money.

It's very disheartening to know that 70% of my office has no degree and makes the same amount as I do. That may sound elitist and egotistical of me, but I want to be the part of society that proves the statistic true, you earn more if you go to college and get a degree.

I do have outstanding loans, but mine and my wife's combined are only $10k and the most expensive local MBA costs $28,000. I'm sure some online ones would be cheaper. Also, at my present job, I could do school and work at the same time, though that may cut in to my mafia playing.

I guess I'm trying to decide on starting school before finding a new job, or finding a new job and then worrying about school. I'm leaning toward the second option because then paying for school would be easier. I just don't know if I'll be able to get the good type of job I want without the degree.

1) Brush up that resume and make it look shiny. Professional help actually is of value, though most resume doctors charge a bunch. (Lucky for me, I have a friend who is a resume doctor.)

2) Post your resume online and give it high visibility - LinkedIn and Careerbuilder.com seems to have had good returns.

3) Reach out to your network. These are people with whom you may have worked and who may be able to tell you about job opportunities that may not yet have been posted.

4) Don't be afraid to make contacts with recruiters and/or headhunter agencies - even if they don't have a perfect fit now, you never know when a need will arise that they want to fill. Given that the recruiter gets a cut from the employer, it is in their best interest to help you find a job.

5) Be well-groomed, even if you only have one or two good interview outfits. Power ties are highly recommended, so make sure that you have a good enough selection. You have one shot at making a first impression. Use it to full advantage.

6) No matter how much turmoil you have inside, exude confidence. Aptitude and personality can sometimes take you further than looking good on paper or having relevant work experience.

7) While you are searching for a job, gather good karma unto yourself by doing good deeds to those around you. This includes helping others who are looking for work, donating to charity, lending a hand to friends or family - in short, filling yourself with positivism for the road ahead.

From the top of my head, those are some ideas that I can share you with you.

Also, if you want me to help you to make your resume better, I can assist with some critique. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and we'll take it from there. I have done hiring and conducted interviews in the past, so I may be able to make a suggestion or two.:)

If it helps any, I hire a ton of supply chain types and if they don't have a specialized degree I don't look at them twice.

As for the Doctor Who game - in the interest of getting Darq to not be distracted from running "Best of...", yes, Mal and I are putting together a Doctor Who game and started on it last night. :)

So - a Rokk game that might actually finish! (I still deeply lament the loss of the Trick or Treat proboard that was holding all the game info. :( You broke my heart Paxy!)

I think I need to get top billing on the moderation, just to make sure it does finish. ;)

Yeah, if you look at at second TF3 trailer, you'll notice that she pretty much does whatever Megan Fox did in the first two movies; "open mouth slightly, do that thing with your lips, the other thing, not the gently biting your lip, but the other thing. Nope, not the tongue thing, just the lips. Yeah, that's the thing."

Also, to me sexy is about this:
60% personality
30% looks
10% that something

Over half on that list do have the looks, some of them have that something, and only a few seem to have personality.

You know, it's not the first time we've had this discussion on the Mafia Realms - I know I've been called out for saying there are plenty of "less sexy women" I find sexier than Megan Fox :) - but it's kind-of nice to hear others say it.

Oddly, been watching "The West Wing" lately and I was just thinking last night what a difference the first and third attributes make. Take Allison Janney on that show. Just seeing a picture of her, she's far from "sexy" but watching her on that and there's something about her that I could see easily attracting a guy. Go figure.

Last night, I bought an NES, SNES, GameCube, Sega Genesis, Sega Gamegear, Sega Saturn, PS2, PSP, and a slew of games. I am living in the 90's hardcore, with a dash of the 2000s for extra flavor.

Watch Neon Genesis: Evangelion. It will crush your soul.

Then watch Fruits Basket and alternate between the two at a pace that will likely give you a chemical imbalance!

Anything by Miyazaki. Kind of like Disney, but replace the songs with ghosts, shapeshifters, sky pirates that happen to be pigs, and busses that are also cats:

I compare anime to Chuck Austen's X-Men and Rob Liefield's feet..

I compare Rob Liefeld's feet to Michael Bay's movies.

I think I'm looking for ridiculous than.

What sort of ridiculous?

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya seems like a normal high school anime, until you realize that anything that happens in the anime, how surreal, is actually because the main character wished it into existence, and has no idea she made it happen.

Bleach can get ridiculous, since it's a fighting anime about the Shinigami (death gods, basically spirit ninjas that act as guardian angels after death).

Death Note is more of a psychological thriller, a sort of detective anime, with the main character as the bad guy.

Trigun can be ridiculous, and has cool action scenes.

And yes, Totoro is a cool movie, kind of like the Alice in Wonderland for anime. Other Miyazaki movies have connections to other movie classics, Porco Rosso is pretty much Casablanca with airfights. Worth checking out.

And if you just want to hang your brain and say WTF a lot, then FLCL and "Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt" are for that.

There's a Luthor on the poster. Of course I'm happy. :)

But, yes, it'll be nice to have more than 2 people in the Legion for Modern Age.

And, hey, I'm not exactly known for hating Superman so this set was already high on my list. Hoping for more Brainiac (villain) myself.

My only concern is that it may be the final DC set unless they worked out a deal. :(

Apparently at one of the conventions a month or so back when they were talking about upcoming sets, WizKids said something about how the only set (besides the GL mini-set) for DC in the upcoming future was "Superman" as no deal had been worked out for continuing with them.

It was talked about in a few threads or Mich is a good one to ask about it.

We were talking about making a DC version of HoT, someone suggested Superman, which I then deemed as Hammer of Superman. Justin said that was a good idea and now...we got a Superman set! So excited for it!

Deathnote is good because it isn't your typical fighting anime(dragonball z, naruto, bleach, etc) plus it was the hotness from I think 5 years ago...if you want more anime from netflix instant after that, as suggested earlier, try full metal alchemist: brotherhood.
