View Full Version : Top 10 Explosion Figures
Here's my list for the figures based on playability.
10) Beast (Veteran)
For 80 points, Beast starts off as a strong close combat figure with Charge, Perplex, and Toughness, but the real fun begins on his last two clicks with Support. He provides a much needed healing figure to the X-Men team.
9) Crimson Dynamo (Veteran)
At 134 points, Dynamo's skills make him worthy of even a 200 point army. With Invulnerability and Toughness all the way down the dial combined with Super Strength, RCE, and damage ranging from 2-5 at 10 inches, good ol' red head can damage even the mighty Firelord.
8) Destiny (Veteran)
Though you'll never be using her to attack, Destiny more than makes up for it at a mere 29 points with 4 clicks of Probability Control and Super Senses.
7) Mandarin (Veteran)
Mandarin is a cross between Batman, Firelord, and Professor X, with many different abilities working together. Starting with MC, Outwit, Incapacitate, and ES\D. After a few clicks he trades up his defense and damage for Barrier and RCE. Then moving into Willpower and Outwit to end his dial. And the best part? He has a 12 inch range.
6) Abomination/Doc Samson (Veteran)
A toss up here really. The choice between these two should be based on your local gaming. If you tend to face people with Firelord, Nightmare, or Spider-Man then I suggest going with Abomination as he holds consist damage and attack all the way down. However, if you face weaker enemies, then I suggest going with Doc Samson to fend a quick 5 damage.
5) Elektra (Unique)
Built for 300 point armies, she's the only figure with the ability to Mind Control two targets. With Perplex, Super Senses, and 2 damage all the way down, she could quite possibly be one of the most powerful figures in the game justifying her point cost at 160.
4) Phoenix (Unique)
At a decent but slightly overcosted 85 points, Phoenix provides a taxi with TK or a fairly good attacker with a consistent 2 damage all the way down. Her 12 inch range (the only other one besides Mandarin) she can hit virtually anyone on the board.
3) Spider-Man (Unique)
Finally, a excellent Spider-Man that isn't over costed. Coming in at 79 points, he comes with just about everything you'd expect him to. 2 clicks of Defend and Super Strength, Super Senses the rest of the way down. Outwit, Incapacitate, and Flurry, this is the Spider-Man we've been waiting for. That and his figure looks really cool.
2) Storm (Veteran)
With ES\D all the way down and 2 clicks of RCE at 10 inches allowing her to do 4 damage, Storm is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Excellent movement and attack with flight at a undercosted 52 points make her a true bargain.
1) Taskmaster (Veteran)
At 75 points with Perplex, BCF, Willpower, Stealth, Flurry, Outwit, Incapacitate, ES\D, and Energy Explosion at 6 inches with two targets, Veteran Taskmaster is my winner for the best figure in Xplosion. With the right use of him, he can take down virtually any figure in Heroclix. Did I mention he's a Minion Of Doom?
Here's my list...post your own and let me see what you think.
List may change if stats are incorrect....for now I'm going with the ones in the warriors section.

I would have to say Phoenix and Elektra are way to high on the list. Green Goblin not on the list sorry but willpower, flight, and perplex. That is a great dial.
Ummm...Psylocke is one of the best figs in XP. I would very likely place her in the top 5. 8 Range, BCF, Stealth, great numbers, low cost, constant damage, and Enhancement make her one fantastic figure.
And with a Vision taxi, he's better and she's safer. They'll be one of the most dangerous duos around.
Goblin deserves to be on there somewhere.
My list would look something like this...
10. Storm
9. Psylocke
8. Unique Savage Hulk - He can rule a 300-400 point game. What a dial!
7. Unique Sauron
6. Abomination
5. Unique Deathbird
4. Vet Mandarin
3. Unique Elektra
2. Rookie Con Artist - I almost give this the #1 spot. I've figured a way to cheese this to the maximum extent. In a 300 or 400 point team I can destroy anything anyone can bring to the table with this figure. This one can completely take the fun out of a tourney.
1. Veteran Taskmaster - I can't wait to play him!
Honerable Mention to Crimson Dynamo.
Of course, this is subject to change. After I get a chance to play some of them in a game, It's possible I will change my mind a bit.
But this is the way I see it now.

Top Ten. This includes stats, powers, and point cost.
10) Rookie Scorpion, for 29 points you get toughness for your whole dial and Leap/Klimb. He is a great Support killer.
9) Vetern Silver Samurai, 40 points for a phasing, toughness, and B/C/F can you say a ouch. Paired up with Shadowcat or any flier for that matter will make him a very tough canidate.
8) Unique Savage Hulk, 201 points of pure power. Oh my. You know you will see some kids playing him in a 300 point head to head army.
7) Rookie Shadowcat, 28 points for a flying phasing Xmen need I say more.
6) Veteran Paramedic 12 points for a support guy. You dont think these will appear all over. Remember everyone having medics well now there's a medic for everyone.
5) Veteran Crimson Dynamo, 134 points for a 5 damage RCE 10 range with Invuln. Sure its not a Firelord but he should last a little longer then then Mr. Firepoof. I mean 5 kliqs of 4 damage with RCE.
4) Veteran Mandarin, 141 points 3 damage 12 range and Outwit. Ohh my. 19 defense counting Energy Shield/Deflection. I hit you you miss me.
3) Veteran Beast 80 points for toughness 3 damage plus perplex and charge. What more do you need. I would use him saying that was dark Beast. I only use bad guys.
2) Unique Green Goblin, 62 points and you get Super Strength, Flight, WIllpower, and Perplex. Oh my. Pair him up with Vet Doc Ock and oh 2 teams with willpower.
1) Veteran Taskmaster, 75 points for Stealth, Claws, Perplex, Willpower, and Energy Shield/Deflections, oh this is jsut so mice. He even gains outwit later on in his dial. Have to agree this is one of the best dials for his points.

Not to sound like sour grapes or anything, but isn't it a bit premature to have a top 10 list for an expansion that doesn't come out for another week and a half?
Just wondering.

Since we see the characters on the Warriors section. They are already out for online play, and yes I have played online using some of these figures. Some you can just tell how they will be used.

I didn't know you could play online. Where? How? Is it graphic? (In a non PG-13 kinda way) Tell me more please.
10. Vet paramedic- finally a decent medic attack 8- for under 15 points
9. Abomination- solid brick who can pull out for healing if necessary, or get to the roof for snipers
8. Green Goblin- there is something to be said for so much willpower and perplex. I like the Doc Ock pairing
7. Spiderman- finally priced right
6. Savage Hulk- too awesome for words
5. Silver Samauri- 40 points for phasing and BCF and toughness
4. Beast R/E/V- greatest second tier pieces in the set
3. V Storm- Good attack, good damage, flyer for 52 points
2. V Doc Samson- a personal favorite, but the perplex is too sweet not to notice
1. V Taskmaster- this clix is going to see a lot of play in my teams.

As it appears pretty much everyone agrees with Vet Taskmaster being #1.
Hey Jaythor what happened you havent replied to any of my Character Creations in a while. :(
I haven't seen any for a while. I'll go back to check them out. I usually only look at the first page stuff, and I've been online less lately, so more threads are slipping to page 2 before I get to see them.

I have to agree. Having Doc Ock and GG used against me was brutal!

10. Elektra- I'm in the minority around here, but I dont mind all the Elektra figures. You have to be careful how to play her because she can be taken out with a concentrated effort, but she is still deadly.
9. Doc Sampson- He can do 7 damage with a heavy object and a 5 move charge with a 10 attack Ouch! He has invulnerability and toughness thoughtout his dail and after taking damage he gains Leap/Climb allowing him to move around freely.
8. Psylocke- Cheap enhancement and BFC with a good attack.
7. Shadowcat- will be better a better taxi than wasp depending on who she is carrying, and the unique has some attack in her.
6. Spiderman- This is one good spiderman. An all around fighter. Would have been worth the points to stick him on the wildcard team IMO.
5. Deathbird- Running shot with 8 range. Good starting attack and great defence and solid damage thoughout. BFC, ESD makes a very flexible character.
4. Gambit- Just a little favortism for the guy but he also pretty flexible.
3. Silver Samurai - I never knew you could get so much for so little.
2. Sauron- a tough BFC click followed by some mind control and steal energy. Toughness thoughout the dail.
1. Taskmaster- Couldn't go against the pattern
Honorable mention
Leader- At first the 1 damage was a turn off but why would this guy attack to do damage when he can mind control someone to attack for him while perplexing his teamates damage? Mind control + willpower could be better than we think.
Manadrin- Im not even sure how I forgot him. He is 12 range of hell.
I agree with you guys about Taskmaster being #1 in Xplosion. But didn't you forget Destiny? With Brotherhood team ability and PC at less than 30pts, i think she will make us forget about Scarlet Witch and Black Cat. U Sauron will be a great fig too : charge/bcf/mind control(no range, arrghh)/toughness/steal energy for 77pts.
Paramedic and con artist seem to be very playable figs: useful, cheap.

10) Abomination R/E/V
9) Storm V
8) Paramedic E/V
7) Mystique E
6) Destiny R/E/V
5) Sauron
4) Doc Samson V
3) Mandarin V
2) Green Goblin
1) Taskmaster V (y'know, it really irks me that I loved this guy before everyone jumped on the bandwagon, and now he's going to be used so much he'll pick up a Firelord-like taboo. That sucks)
Honourable mention: Madam Masque.

I see alot of Vet Taskmaster fans here but remember too look at one thing. All 3 Taskmaster are each very useable and can all fit in on many kinds of teams

10. V Psylocke
9. E Storm
8. V Mystique
7. V Beast
6. U Shadowcat
5. E Iceman (nice sculpt, Defenders)
4. E Beast (Defender)
3. V Crimson Dynamo
2. V Mandarin
1. V Taskmaster
Heimdall
I agree with you Evil Cap. The rookie Taskmaster looks really playable in a 200 or 300 pts game: Stealth/Bcf/Energy shield+Minions of Doom team ability for less than 40pts! But what's so kewl about him is his 11 attack. He may be (i didn't check) the first rookie with such an attack.

my top 10 of non-uniques:
10)Exp. Mystique leader of Freedom Force ! Vet. is too expensive, the Exp. version has more fight in her then the Rookie.
9) Rookie Destiny Freedom Force wouldn't be thesame without her !
Plus the PC and Spider Senses will annoy the heck out of your opponents !
It would be like having the original X-men without Angel.
8)R or V Psylocke cheap enhancement or the melee fig with enh.
7) R/E/V Shadowcat cheap taxi for the X-men, E/V adds some fighting skill !
6)R/E/V Iceman cheap taxi with barrier and RCE and last ditch inc. Vet. has double targets so something extra. !! :)
5)E/V Beast the Exp. Beast I like best, the Vet. cost 21 points more for that first better click and support.
the only reason I would use Vet. Beast over the E one is because of his first click.
4)Vet Silver Samurai 40 points for a good fig with 10 AV and BCF's ! phasing only adds to the fun.
3)R/V Taskmaster what can this fig NOT do ?
11 AV for the Rookie, 12 for the Vet. ! and a nice assortement of powers to go with it.
2)Colossus why he didn't get a higher defence and kept it longer, has Inv. for all his armoured life etc. !
1) Vet.Storm ! What can this fig NOT do ?
well: Smoke cloud, force blast, etc. she's still nr.1 !!
and in the most pimped category: the Rookie Con Artist ! (a.k.a. the hooker), really I can't for the life of me figure out why JonL/WK made her other then to get her on the banned list.

The only figure cheaper than R-Taskmaster with an 11 Attack is Unique Elektra for 36 points, and the next up is V-Bullseye for 43. I am ALL about Taskmaster in Xplosion.
10) V-Mandarin - I won't play him but that 12 Range and Outwit on the first three clicks is sweet.
9) R/E/V-Mystique - Stealth Perplex.
8) V-SWAT Specialist - I shall call him... Mini-Bullseye. Take R-Bullseye and subtract a click of RCE, 2 Range, 1 Bolt and 4 points, then add SHIELD. Stir. 9 Attack and 3 Damage.
7) V-Storm - Two clicks of 4 Damage at 10 Range with 10/8 Attack for 52 points. She's not undercosted, as she has a glass jaw like Cyclops. But for those two clicks... BLAM! (Just throw in a Paramedic to keep her on her sweet spot.)
6) E/V-Paramedic - Support with 8 Attack for 10/12 points. Yes you'll have to keep this medic on the back lines, but don't you do that anyhow? AIM Medic's superior, but if you don't have those 4-7 points this ambulance jockey's your man.
5) R/V-Psylocke - I just didn't want to decide between the two. Either 29 point pure Enhancement or 45 point Stealthed Enhancement with sweet, sweet BCF. A 6/8 Range attack too! Why would you ever use the E version though?
4) R/E-Destiny - For 29 points I'd go for Scarlet Witch over V-Destiny, but for 20/23 points Destiny can't be beat for cheap PC.
3) V-Typhoid Mary - Dirty deeds done dirt cheap - BCF w/9 Attack for 21 points.
2) R-Con Artist - 11 point Perplex. 'Nuff Said.
1) R/E/V-Taskmaster - I can't disagree, this guy is just plain fun. I imagine the E will see less play, but he's got his own strategic uses. It's the MoD ability that puts him over the top.
Honorable mentions:
V-Doc Samson. If his Attack didn't drop off, his Charge + Inv + SS + Perplex combo would be deadly. Combine Abomination and the Doc and you've got the perfect high-point bruiser.
R/E-SWAT Specialist - I like the 9 Attack on the V but the R and E are the cheapest figures with 3 Damage.
E/V-Con Artist - If you're below the point build by 1, switch out the R for the E. And if you think you'll need to push (or take a hit), go for the V. The R is still the bargain of the set though.
Blizzard. Sure, he's an Infinity Challenge figure but with the Con Artist he'll be seeing a lot more play. Hookers on Ice.
Dishonorable mentions:
R/E/V-SWAT Officer - the overpricing of Incapacitate continues.
Hand Ninjas. The only reason to use these guys would be a Wolverine/Sabretooth vs. a Million Zillion Ninjas scenario. Lamest. Ninjas. Ever.
R-Colossus - 79 points, 8 Attack. Who expected a man made of steel to be such a wuss?
R-Iron Man - 117 points, 8 Attack. You'd think with all that hardware Stark would put in a targeting system. E/V are pretty unusable for the points, but the Rookie takes the cake... or tries to take the cake and misses.
Scorpion - Leap/Climb and Toughness. Yup, that's it. Oh, Incapacitate - for a click - on the V. The R might be vaguely usable but with a 6 Speed and 2 Range I doubt it.
