Set Wars: Cosmic Justice vs. Critical Mass

Hi there. Once again Gargantua and I take on a big ol' project. With the 10 Heroclix anniversary coming up in 2012, we're doing a set retrospective taking us from Infinity Challenge all the way to, well whatever set is out by the time we get to that.

The idea is simple. We each get a set, round 1 is in chronological order, I get the first set; Gargantua the second and they face off. Next game has Gargantua getting the next set in line vs. my getting the one after and so on. We each get 1000 points in characters. Each character can have one feat and that feat can only be used once per set.

Once all of the winning sets are determined we'll have a round two. Round two will likely involve some tweaking, and probably no longer go chronologically. Additionally older figures may get a cost modification if going up against a newer one. This will probably be something like a 25% cost reduction or something like that.

"Still waiting to be impressed."

"Kraven, hunter without peer and Calypso, his mystical mate. Diablo, master of the art of alchemy."

"It seems we're being used as pawns in some game, being forced to fight other heroes and villains."

"I don't like fighting. I will when I must, but I will not fight simply for another's entertainment," the Surfer said.

"You are missing out on one of life's greatest thrills then," Kraven the Hunter told the Surfer, "pitting yourself against another living creature, measuring your prowess against theirs, with only one winner. Only the best survives!"

"Yesss," Venom agreed with Kraven, "I can understand that!"

"You make it sound so...physical," Diablo complained. "In knowledge lies true power!"

"This is truth," Calypso agreed, scattering a handful of small bones on the floor. She frowned at the result.

"You call that magic?" Umar scoffed. "Potions and parlor tricks? You are merely scratching the surface of power!"

"I prefer something I know that I can count on, like a good laser gun," Nebula said.

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side," Marrow quoted.

"What was that?" Selene asked, ready to be offended.

"Star Wars. You need to get out more," Marrow told her.

"Enough bantering," Captain Marvel held up his hand to quiet them. "They are here."

"How do you know," the Brood asked.

"I know."

"Powering up weapons systems," the Dreadnought declared.

"She dares call herself a sorceress," Circe said. "She'll soon see how wrong she is."

I don't think this game has a clear favorite, unlike the last two, so it'll be interesting to see where this goes.

"Surprise!" Venom said, pouncing on Deathstroke. His dark costume had given him a momentary advantage. He was the first wave of a sudden surge from his teammates. Nebula picked off Circe with a laser while Captain Marvel hit Despero and Diablo incapacitate Cheetah by sending her into a sneezing fit.

"That was a lucky shot," Despero said. "But I'm barely scratched. You won't be able to say the same when we're done with you."

"He is not alone!" the Surfer said, trying to wound Despero further. The hulking monster laughed it off.

"Good. All the more for me to corrupt," Eclipso grinned.

"No, I don't think I will," Eclipso said, craeting a shield with his black diamond.

"While they've got all the attention, it's a perfect opportunity for a stealthy hunter like me," Kraven said, throwing a dagger at Circe. She seemed to sense the danger and got off a spell at him just as the knife struck her.

"Kraven?" Calypso asked.

"I don't need your pity," Kraven said, pulling himself back shakily to his feet. "I've taken far worse."

"Fine then. Let her spell eat up your insides then," Calypso said in a huff.

Short of the painfully slow Incapacitate option. I think we're probably within a turn or two of a concession here, unless I can get incredibly lucky.

With no way to heal, I can't get through your Impervious short of Incapping you, and that's just going to take way too long. With the three O's all still doing reasonably well, plus some good back up in Fatality, you could wrap this up in a turn or two anyway, I'm sure, and no point in pretending otherwise. I knew those guys were going to be trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if those three figures manage to carry this set a long way in this thing.
