View Full Version : Negativity?

I have a pretty sound understanding of what negativity is IMO. I've seen the rules regarding it.

Rampant Negativity
Members who post excessively negative, confrontational, rude or mean posts will be asked to adjust their attitudes or leave the site.
HCR prides itself on being a community open to all discussions and opinions, but it is not your personal dumping ground, soap box or anger management group.
If you are nothing but a black hole of negativity, you have a real life problem – seek help, but seek it elsewhere.

I see the term being thrown around a lot lately. I thought maybe the term could be defined as it pertains to the realms.

I know people complain sometimes excessively yet I myself don't consider that negativity. For all intents and purposes should complaining be considered negative here on the realms?

Don't get me wrong. I think people need to go a long way in how it is exactly they voice their complaints. Though I would hate to see people get censored only because they didn't like something wizkids did.

I only ask because I feel like there is some confusion between having an issue with something wizkids did and negativity. Just like it seems if you have had an issue with wizkids you are a hater and if you stick up for them you are on some rainbow brigade. Which I find to be one of the most ridiculous things about our community.

I just want to be sure reasonable people with good communication skills might be able to prevail here on the realms.

It is really an interesting clause in the rules around here...seems that a lot of what is deemed as "negative" is truly just contrary to the popular opinion or contrary to the opinion of certain individuals who are considered pro Wizkids all the time...

This is a private site, owned by an individual or group of individuals and they most certainly have the right to create whatever kind of community they want by allowing or excluding anyone for any reason. Whether the Utopian nature of their goals are the best for everyone is up to the reader to decide, this place would basically be a team builder for me though if there wasn't some back and forth of ideas and dissension in the ranks.

Well, the rule isn't against negativity, but rampant negativity. So, clearly we don't need to be arguing about the definition of negative, but about the definition of rampant. Are any of you being rampant?

Edit: Wow, I didn't realize we had a "no screaming in all caps" filter. That's kind of neat.

Well no actually it's negative. I would hardly think rampant kindness or generosity would be problematic typically.

Yeah; we're not asking everyone to be sunshine and roses all the time; and being negative is perfectly acceptable when it is due. "Rampant negativity", in my opinion, is being a "hater"; essentially just being negative for the sake of being negative. for instance, if you've stopped playing HeroClix (for whatever reason), and still hang around to bask the game because you believe it's fun to get everyone wound up. You've overly negative (on top of being a troll).

It is subjective, and it does have to have wider context than 1 post/thread. I know it's easier to be negative on the internet because you're anonymous ... and that's the kind of behavior we're trying to curb.

Just ask yourself if you were acting this way in a public setting, if it wouldn't be justified to punch you in the face. :)

No doubt there are people being jackanapes and need curbed. Just was seeing complaints being pointed out as negativity and against the rules. So I just wanted some clarification. Seeing a thread plain disappear altogether that wasn't favorable towards wizkids had me kinda wondering. Maybe the thread needed to go I didn't see what happened in it towards the end.

It's no big deal for me I try not to be too negative anyhow.

Yeah like Typhon said, usually the rampant negativity rule is breached when all you seem to do in terms of posting is spout about how you dislike XYZ thing.

It's fine to criticize, it's fine to point out what's a flaw. But if that's almost all the substance of your posts or perhaps in the same thread you come back multiple times to make it clear people see your point (I'm not talking about discussion back and forth, just responding to an individual over just to attack their thoughts and re-express your previously expressed opinion).

I HATE negativity. I hate it so much! I'm just going to complain about how much I hate negativity. Negativity is the worst thing in the world!

Do you positively HATE negativity?

Because that just ruins what you were trying to do there....
