Coolness! Here's to seeing the rest of the GLA!
I LOVE the fact that the squirrel comes off and becomes a bystander.. NEAT concept!
I don't see much of a point for the character..
Well I suppose he makes a decent tie up piece..

While i'm glad all the fanboys and fangirls get to finally have their squirrel girl, I'm not really a fan of this piece. Unless this piece is one of those hard to find SR's or her value literally doubles overnight, I'm gonna be sad if I pull one of these.
I keep looking at this dial trying to figure out how this piece can take out Doom, or MODOK, or Deadpool. This piece isn't bad, but it's not the unmittigated awesomeness that Squirrel Girl should be. Maybe I'm delusional, but I was expecting her to be in the 175-200 point range. And she's an SR. But, I will make sure to get one. This... this is my sad face. I hope Mr. Immortal isn't this disappointing.

Forget Squirrel Girl.
That teaser at the end made this ridiculous preview worth it. 5 letters folks. And I hope those 5 letters are full of killing.
SR? Wizkids, you're killing me. Still, amazing piece and I will definitely be getting it. And MODOK on Friday? I am so sold on this set :)

So if I'm reading this right, you can create unlimited Monkey Joe's (although only one at a time)? Pretty neat concept, although not sure if the actual Squirrel Girl character is going to be that useful.

those 5 letters are designed ONLY FOR killing.....
a new improved Modok is like the holy grail for me.. im happier than i have been in months just because he gets a remake, and even more happy that its gonna be big, highly detailed AND have an interesting dial..
wish i could get it without ordering online, but i will do what i must for this specific miniature
Good for her fans... And that's all...

Aww, I was hoping she'd be 200 points of killing machine too, Dairoka.
For those of you who expected her to be better, don't forget this is the rookie version! Maybe we'll get another one in a couple years that's better.

Thank goodness she is sr. Hopefully I won't pull her.
Good for her fans... And that's all...
She's got an 18DV against close combat, does 2 clicks of penetrating damage, can hit the vast majority of pieces out there on a 7+, and has Super Senses? I daresay she's good for more than just her fans.
Which I admit to being one of, but still.
Can't wait to see what MODOK's dial looks like, though.

05/25/2011, 13:49
Fun character, but doesn't accurately cover her powers. No, I wasn't expecting her to really take out Doctor Doom in clix, but I was hoping for a power that represented a swarm of squirrels (Smoke Cloud at the very least, maybe Poison?), not a single squirrel under her control.
she's amazing tie-up for the cost. Keep her parked in stealth, daring anybody with lower points to get in your face with that 18 combat reflexes and 2 damage exploit weakness, meanwhile sending out monkey Joe to tie down your opponents biggest brick for free! I mean, the squirrel is worth 0 points, so your opponent in the most literal sense has to waste a power action killing it, and that assumes he can get you through Monkey's Super Senses. If he gets KO'ed, hey no bigs, just send out another squirrel!
Great piece.

05/25/2011, 13:50
This is cool. Lots of fun options and good combat values for the points. She can exploit her way through Impervious for less than 60 points. Slap Shellhead on her & she is an amazing tie up piece that can deal some damage as well. I'd play 2-3 of them on a team and drive an opponent crazy.

Not really, i mean, for the points you can get a lot of better clixs.
BUT! It may be very fun to play agaisnt her. The squirrel mechanic could be fun.

I can't believe people are complaining about this figure. She can create a tie up piece that costs 0 POINTS! So you have to break away from it or hit it. If you hit it you don't get JACK! Then she can just make another one! Hide her in stealth while throwing down some squirrels and you have yourself a heck of a tie up figure. Very cool figure, one I'll have to get.
Really Wizkids...really...

Forget your giant's head on a child's body. Give me Johann any day of the week. Hail H.Y.D.R.A.!!
I actually really like the concept of her dial though, she's exactly as I figured she'd be, a low costed, really annoying tie up piece. Although she definitely is a bit glass jawed. Maybe we might even get a Redwing and Falcon with the same concept. That I'd be game for.
Ben Reilly is a tremendous tieup piece for his cost...Vet Mockingbird is a tremendous tieup piece for her cost...
For all her incredible accolades in comics, they really underwhelmed me with her. I honestly was expecting a broken 18 combat reflexes with Senses and possibly Shape change due to how common that combo seems to be getting along with a low point cost and a few clix of life. Or a high point cost figure hunting trait ala Elsa Bloodstone where her stats are boosted to epic levels against characters 150+.
I think the trait is extremely clever though, kudos for thinking outside that ole box.
She's pretty cool. Monkey Joe should have had exploit weakness though. Seems more like a rare than a SR. Love the sculpt though. Also she really needs the Avengers keyword and alternate removable Cage baby(she's part of the New Avengers!).

I agree, though with a bit less emotion. But the character makes me sick. As the C-list character she is, she should be fighting C-list villains, or have her own cutesy book for folks who like that. She should not be fighting, and defeating, A-list top of the line villains. That is just stupid and forced garbage. Who designed this character or wrote those books? They need to be slapped. Horrible.
As for the figure, pretty decent at 59. Interesting, breakable mechanic. My only potential interest in her is as part of a GLA team collection. But I can easily do without. I have mixed feelings about her being a SR. As a SR, I hope and would have a lowish chance to not get her in my case. But if I do end up with her, that means one other SR I would likely want more I will not have. If she were more common, then I would very likely end up with her, but would be less concerned about what else I would be missing out. Here is to hoping the other SR's are just as disappointing to me or that I do not draw her.
Cheers to all the fanboys who made this bit of miserable happen.

How ironic. While not the creator, the writer of the GLA mini would be Dan Slott, who happens to be the current writer of the "A-list" character in your avatar. A kid gaining powers from a radioactive spider is not any less silly than girl who can communicate with squirrels.

Yes. Fun is bad, and Doctor Doom needs to be more realistic. Comedy is stupid. There should be no "Com" in "Comic Book". And we certainly don't want any animal sidekicks reminding us of the touchy fact that we might - in fact - be reading something that may... MAY... be intended for children!
Clearly your opinions are not EXACTLY WHAT DAN SLOTT WAS MAKING FUN OF WITH HIS ENTIRE GREAT LAKES AVENGERS MINISERIES!!!
"Maybe it's just me... but I'm not crazy about super hero stories where everything's all dark and moody. Personally, I like the ones where the good guys fight giant apes on the moon and stuff. Remember those? I do. That was back when comic book worlds were places you wanted to escape to... not from." - Squirrel Girl (GSA #2)
We are nerds. We like nerdy things. We - at the VERY least - have a common interest in comic books and superhero games. Our very nature as nerds is predicated on a love of things that are childish, or even directly marketed towards children. Is there not ANY room for someone to like something "silly" when the entire history of comic books as a medium are based in a thorough sense of ridiculousness?
i am an effeminate guy and i STILL HATE cutesy characters, and it drives me crazy when guys (especially guys who are supposed to be standard manly guys) enjoy, for no logical reason, things best left for little girls.
And then you let out the real meat of your opinion... Some good old-fashioned forced gender-conformity! Really? REALLY? Do transvestites make you uncomfortable too? How far are you willing to take that particular thread of logic, my fellow nerd?

Wow, I'm astonished at all the Grinches out in force. Really? There's a lot of people who hate Superman, but you don't generally see them all get together and ##### (and insult his fans/writers) everytime we get yet another Superman piece, do you? This is our first Squirrel Girl. Again, really? This is how you behave? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Furthermore, it's glaringly obvious you haven't read the character's actual books and know nothing about how she's presented. She's a joke character. Like Doop, or Lobo (before people forgot he was a joke character) or Dan Hibiki or Batmite or Bizarro... You do know what a joke is, right? It's where something incongruous and unexpected happens, thus triggering humor neurons.

Well, personally I've not been known as a hater, but I am happy this piece is as lackluster as it is. I've never understood why characters like this have such a random following. She does nothing important ever. When I saw she was a super rare I smiled. If I don't pull one, good. If I do I can trade her for something epic just like I traded my two Deadpools. She-Hulk is actually amusing and does things relevant to the Marvel Universe. Where's her love? Where's her cult following and legion of fans?

Oh, that object would also make SG a Charging,Super Strength,Exploit Weakness 3 Dam brick with stealth/CR for protection for the grand total of 59 points.

I personally don't think the figure's lackluster, but there's some debate on that subject it seems. I know I'll use it.
Her following isn't random. She has a following because she has been the focus of a handful of very entertaining books. And she does something important: She entertains me.
I am with you on She-Hulk. She needs a modern, GOOD Heroclix piece in the worst way. I'm still using the Clobberin' Time Veteran with a Supernova sculpt stuck on it... However, I DO think Shulkie has a decent cult following. Especially after Dan Slott's fantastic She-Hulk run (and it was Dan Slott who brought Squirrel Girl to the limelight as well). I think there's a Hulk-based set coming up this next year, and if you start a pro-She-Hulk ruckus I'll be right there beside you.

I thought the fact that Dan Slott got a surprisingly long run out of her given her low circulation rates was plenty of love for She-Hulk. I'm also a fan of She-Hulk (well, Dan Slott's She-Hulk anyway, although I also enjoyed her well enough on the FF). I'd be pretty happy if they made a new She-Hulk that didn't suck. I don't see how it's in any way relevant, though. She-Hulk has been made, twice. The set is the first time we're getting any of the core GLA, which, if you've never read the mini-series, was both hilarious and a decently intelligent commentary on the state of comics at the time. And, heck, this might just be my mental derangement showing, but I found it fairly emotionally involving as well.

Yeah, Squirrel Girl is stupid! Fun and imagination is stupid! Why can't we have more comics like Ultimatum that are DARK and MATURE. That's been so underdone! Thank God Marvel has the insight to still employ Rob Liefeld and not that Dikto hack that created Furry-Girl! :p
Frank Miller and Rob could write a MATURE DARK EDGY story, like SG is a pro$titute who gets snuff-r@ped by Carnage or something, and Penance goes Emo, and blows up a children's hospital or something. That would be epic...

She's actually pretty playable for the points. Especially in an Animal theme team. I like the Monkey Joe mechanic, that will get irritating real fast when you keep sending out tie up pieces. The Exploit Weakness is what's saving her. The fact that she could crack an Impervious shell means your opponent has to worry about her is they become adjacent.
Now with a cutesy piece that shoots squirrels out at people I might be able to get my girlfriend to start playing.

All of these are characters that are part of a lesser know group, that have one of their number thrown into the SR category. There will always be, or at least their SHOULD always be, at least a few minor or "fan-favorite" pieces in each set. Quirkyness shouldn't be frowned upon. Just because someone hates Matter Eater Lad doesn't mean that he shouldn't be made, because there are people out there that love him, in all him matter-eating glory. And if you get "stuck" with a SR figure you don't like, trade it or sell it. (For the record, I have Vapor, Venus and The Captain, love their figs, and love their teams).

Why is everyone assuming it's MODOK on Friday? It could just as easily be a new Adaptoid. He certainly fits 'versatile' more than MODOK does, and is part of MODOKs 11 as well....
the Ultra Adaptoid anyway.
I'd be happy with either.
dont get me wrong, i would be ultra happy about an Adaptoid being in the set (the old one looked so cool, but his dial was terrible) Modok is just one of my favorite comic characters, so im totally stoked about the new one coming out:cool:

liking comically cutesy things is a choice, one i very much dont agree with, it has nothing to do with being gender conformed (honestly, if you knew me, you would understand how silly that statement is:p)
and you can say or think however you feel guy, but really, one of my best and oldest friends is a transvestite, and i've had great fun at drag shows.. im comfortable around all walks of life, i just like what i like and dont like what i dont like, same as you or anyone
You're right, I don't know you. However, I still feel that referring to "things best left for little girls" IS gender-policing. Thinking squirrels are cute doesn't make someone less a man, it's a totally gender-neutral and subjective opinion. This may just be a disagreement over language used - rather than intent and attitudes - but I still stand by what I said.

You ever watch WWF? Squirrel Girl is like Hornswoggle. She's a joke character. And joke characters have their place. However, when used out of their place, they become a car wreck. Its like Hornswoggle lasting so long in the Royal Rumble or facing DX. Squirrel Girl defeating the likes of Dr. Doom, Thanos, MODOK, Mandarin, Deadpool, etc...all that succeeds in doing is shaming the reputations of the villains, while adding to the credibility of a character that a)is a joke and b)we aren't supposed to take seriously. So its not like defeating them was supposed to be done as a way to build up a serious new hero that we're supposed to really take seriously or care about, the message is "see? A joke character can beat these guys! Isn't that funny?" No, it isn't. You've spent decades building up most of these villains, and then suddenly you tarnish them for what? Laughs?
Squirrel Girl has her place, and it isn't fighting A-List super villains. Its a waste of time and does way more harm than good, parody or not. And I think its hilarious that people are sad not to see a version of her that can take on these villains. Did you really expect that? Because if you did, then you're apparently missing the point of the character.
As for the dial itself, the detaching squirrel bystander is a neat concept. Its decent for 59 points. However, my contempt for this character knows no bounds.
After reading the card, I get the impression that the Monkey Joe figure physically detaches from the stump on the fig and then you can stick it somewhere and then put it back on the stump. If that is the case, I think that is totally awesome but I bet it will lead to a couple Joe-less figures out of the packs.
Finally Squirrel Girl has been made. Now I can cross her of my list and dream of an shuma gorath clix.

If the fights took place on-panel, as part of the story, I might agree with you. However, they're always depicted as something that happened off-panel, with at most a 'pre-fight' panel and a 'post-fight' panel. It's... a joke. A gag. Not to be taken seriously. Frankly I'd be more concerned over the myriad of "intended to be taken seriously" bits done with those villains that were dumb and nonsensical, if I was concerned about the reputation of them at all. And yes, I'm a Dr Doom fan also. But his 'defeat' at the hands of SG is hardly the first thing I'd erase from his history, given the choice.

I agree with your first part though I don't think she should be over 100 points.
I'm thinking she could have come with a trait like Elsa Bloodstone's that gives her a bonus against higher point characters to show how everyone overestimates her while still keeping her relatively low costed.

I think Squirrel Girl will be great for her points. I can see (insert name of a brick fig) ready to charge in with a heavy object for 6 damage on their next turn but wait, 0 point Monkey Joe just leaped and climed in to tie him up!!!
Not to mention with her on the team putting out a pog there'll be more opportunity to benefit from Leadership extra actions.

This is a sick piece. If I'm reading this right, SG can take a power action to create a zero point pog. Would he have, say, x men team ability if cypher was copying that from your opponent? If so, SG can heal herself with the pog seemingly infinite times.

I don't know much about wrestling, but I guess I get what you're trying to say? However, I don't really understand how a fictional character can truly get "shamed"... I mean, did Doctor Doom go home and cry after he was driven away by Monkey Joe? Did he get on LiveJournal that night and post a bunch of song lyrics or something?
Did it really "tarnish" his reputation like you suggest? Were there any Dr. Doom fans (and I consider myself a massive Dr. Doom fan) who read that story back in '92 and were like "DOCTOR DOOM GOT DRIVEN OUT OF CENTRAL PARK BY SQUIRREL GIRL? SCREW THAT GUY!" and never read a comic with him in it ever again? On the same note, has that EVER been brought up in any comic book that Squirrel Girl wasn't actually IN? When Norman Osborn was trying to recruit Doom for his Cabal, did Loki get all "No way, dude's a wuss. Got taken out by squirrels," and Namor added in "YAH LOL THEY WERE ALL UP IN HIS MASK AND STUFF!" And then they high-fived and gave Doom a wedgie?
And this...
You've spent decades building up most of these villains, and then suddenly you tarnish them for what? Laughs?
...is just silly! YES IT IS FOR LAUGHS! They are cartoon characters. You're actually complaining that she somehow made a mockery of MODOK... MODOK!!!! Did you ever see the episode of the Iron Man cartoon where his hand retracted into his arm, and out popped a little tomato-looking baby MODOK? Was that deadly serious to you? And that's not even counting the hilarious brilliance of Ryan Dunlavey's MODOK one-shot ("Reign Delay", which as far as I know is in-canon) or the March MODOK Madness blog. (http://marchmodokmadness.blogspot.com/)
THESE ARE CARTOON CHARACTERS OH MY GOD!!!
I did not expect Squirrel Girl to be 200 points, and would have thought it ridiculous if she was. They made her powers totally accurate to her Marvel Handbook entry, and added in some Exploit Weakness as a cheeky nod to her occasional absurd triumphs, which I think is just about perfect.
So. There.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people think that you can send out an ARMY of squirrels. Reading the card it says that you give Squirrel Girl a power action and remove Monkey Joe from the base and place him in an adjacent square.
Now if you are able to wait a turn and clear SG AND still have MJ on the map and not KO'd, how can you send out another MJ if the power states that you remove MONKEY JOE from the base, if he is not there but on the map somewhere?
Am I making sense?
Am I missing something? Can someone clarify for me if I am in fact wrong?

.... this is stupid. Why waste a figure on this character?
As wild as it may seem this character has been in high demand for quite sometime now by either true Nut-a-holics or those who see her as a joke (or both). And if you're going to have the Great Lakes Avengers as one of the sub themes (which what does this set have now, three? Four subthemes?) then you can't have them without her. Personally I think it's a good representation of the character without going over the top. I expected her to do something like 5 damage with exploit weaknesses to characters that were 150 points and up, so I'm glad they kept her grounded.
Oh and she also had a brief "thing" with Wolverine who still has the hots for her. IN YO FACE!!!! :p
Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that Wolverine may have had carnal relations with a minor? Squirrel Girl is about 16 or 17.
Oh, and she should have the teen keyword.
Thank goodness she is sr. Hopefully I won't pull her.
S@#$ like this is why you are in the unenJOYment line. squirrel girl is dope, yo!

she's amazing tie-up for the cost.
Great piece.
fantastic strategy for her.

(For the record, I have Vapor, Venus and The Captain, love their figs, and love their teams).
totally saw this coming. don't forget gertrude yorkes and old lace too. i will refer to it as "the captain" effect and lament the secondary market upswing for my OCD-driven GLA completest need and just hope all the haters will sell cheap to strikezone.

no offense taken. but im quite secure with my self image (very much so actually) i dont very much understand your reasoning, i simply have a strong (negative) opinion on talking animal and or comically cutesy characters (and always have)
so what's your opinion on solomon grundy?
or if it's humans talking to animals, how about aquaman? wonder woman used to be able to talk to birds too
When Norman Osborn was trying to recruit Doom for his Cabal, did Loki get all "No way, dude's a wuss. Got taken out by squirrels," and Namor added in "YAH LOL THEY WERE ALL UP IN HIS MASK AND STUFF!" And then they high-fived and gave Doom a wedgie?
funniest thing i've read on the internet today

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that Wolverine may have had carnal relations with a minor? Squirrel Girl is about 16 or 17.
Oh, and she should have the teen keyword.
They said the same thing about Pete Wisdom and Kitty Pryde. Technically speaking(not morally), everyone's mostly a minor to Wolverine when you consider his age. Cap, Namor, Thor, Hercules have similar situations and they're way too many long lived/immortal villains to name.
I slightly raised a Vulcan eyebrow when I read about her and Logan, but my eyes almost popped out of my head seeing her casually talking with Uatu about beating Thanos and his Infinity Pyramid.

I like the fact that she is 59 points (right under 60) with the Animal keyword, much like the 4 Beast Boys in DC75. :)
56 AN004 Gorilla City Warrior
60 AN014 Beast Boy
60 AN015 Beast Boy (Bear)
60 AN016 Beast Boy (Cheetah)
62 AN024 Detective Chimp
60 AN055 Beast Boy (T-Rex)
21 AN102 Gleek
40 WM015 Bubastis
59 CA056 Squirrel Girl
478 Modern Age with room for objects or lineup changes
don't forget dc75 animal man. gotta give him all that keyword goodness

i dont really mind a character having a power that allows them to telepathically talk to animals, i dont like animals being like something outa' the movie bambi (talking, being cute, etc.)
i like Grundy, he's cool (and IMO not a cutesy character, and absolutely NOT a talking animal)
Wonder Woman talking to birds is kinda pointless and dumb :ermm:
and i didnt like Aquaman at all untill after he dropped the 90's extreme hook hand look, nowa'days i like Aquaman, he's a cool character
PS:
im still the only person i know who likes Aquaman:confused: i have a friend thats a comic nerd in his early 50's who grew up with all the classics and even he hates Aquaman
weird...

Wait! So, you like Aquaman? Aquaman who also rides a giant seahorse, has had a pet octopus named Topo and a walrus sidekick? All of which he could communicate with like Squirrel Girl? I like him, too but, oooooooooookay...!

hmm
Hating Aquaman is pretty normal.

i think marvel kinda forgot her youth. then again logan is a dirty old man
I think Bendis just doesn't think about things like statutory rape before he writes them into a comic, because he's kind of a bonehead.

Looks at my sig, looks at you, looks back at my sig, Shakes head.
You sad sad little man, You must live a life of emo sorrow, I pity you, and in turn I will make an effort to smile at the next 6 emo's I see to brighten their day and make the world a better place.
First time in ages I will go nuts tracking down a fig. she will be mine (as well as the rest of the GLA), and if I don't find her, I would trade my Black Latern Martian manhunter to have her and the rest of the GLA.
Then my dream of running a Agents of Atlas/GLA Team up being lead by Howard the Duck will be complete

My one wish for squirrel girl...
One last trait (or even a white power)
Increase Squirrel Girl's Attack and Damage by 1 for every 100 points her target opponent is. That way when she attacks someone like Thanos or Deadpool he gets + 2 or +1...heck go up against Ironman/War Machine.

I want this fig because Monkey Joe rocks.
And his sculpt reminds me of that squirrel made out of plastique that Carl Spackler made in caddyshack.

since a lot of people wanted it it should have been made a chase
She needs a trait that basically sez: "figures with the word DOOM in their name can't do jack squat to Squirrel Girl, and are automatically PWNED!"
With Monkey Joe at 0 points, Howard the Duck now has someone he can remove a token from with Leadership.

This is a sick piece. If I'm reading this right, SG can take a power action to create a zero point pog. Would he have, say, x men team ability if cypher was copying that from your opponent? If so, SG can heal herself with the pog seemingly infinite times.
her on an x-men team with cyclops.....healing for two.....:tired:
