I'm not sure what the proper protocol for this kind of this is, but I jsut wanted to announce that I have a new Heroclix related app on the iTunes store. It's called Clix Utilities, and currently serves as a Line of Fire tool. With it you can recreate maps with terrain markers and tokens and determine whether the line-of-fire between two squares is hindered or blocked.

Since the app is called Clix Utilities, the plan is to add additional functionality that will aid players during a game. If anyone has any suggestions or criticisms, let me know.

I found a very very simple one for droids called Crosshairs. All it does is draw a line from A3 to J9 and show you which squares the line crosses.

I like the fact it makes the decision for you wether LOF is blocked or not, only because it helps with home games. I'm not entirely convinced it takes all the rules into account though.

What about giants and colossals... ???

Downloading now, this could be very helpful.

nice work, but is any of the money you are getting going to NECA/Wizkids since it's based of off their game and you are using their markers

Great stuff! I'd pay more if it came w the maps! But don't charge us per map hehe

Thanks for trying out the app guys! Preloaded and user-generated/stored maps are definitely on the list of things to do, as are giants/colossals. Also, despite how authentic the tiles look I actually made them from scratch. I honestly thought they looked pretty crappy but you can't tell when they're scaled down to a phone. Keep any other suggestions/criticisms coming either in this thread, or through a pm. I'm working on a lot of stuff but I'll try to respond as quickly as I can.

Sorry they are too close to the actual items that where created by Wizkids and from the screenshots on the itunes store, the smoke tile is dead on to Wizkids, also the dial outline you are using is is once again dead on with theirs as well as the sharpshooter icon you are using.

Any good lawyer would be able to show that you are making money off of their product without compensating the original creator.

Now if wizkids gives you the ok thats one thing, but pretty sure you did not get permission to use their protected product.

Sorry if I seem harsh on this, but having had my work stolen in the past and someone else passing it off as theirs, kind of a sore point for me.

But hey kudos for creating a app that some may need, but most players playing in a live game this app is not very practical for obvious reasons, so it looks to be only good for the online game, and if they at some point add a LOF feature to that, well....

I do see where you're coming from and I think it is a bit of a gray area, but I didn't even look at the official Wizkids stuff when I was making the images for the app. Obviously a target symbol and a gear symbol aren't unique to Heroclix, but they were what I had in mind when I made them. Same with the tiles. I don't want to hash this out in this thread, so PM me if you have any other thoughts on the matter. I will give it some more thought myself.

Oh and the ghostbusters symbol is used to remove tiles/terrain that you have added to the map.

I was using the app this past weekend during a game, we were trying to resolve a LOF dispute. That's when I realized that there was one thing missing, there is no icon for characters other than the attacker and the target. I guess I could use blocking terrain but I'm not sure the rules would be the same.

Noticed this same thing this past weekend. I used blocking to plug in the character.

That being said I'm really liking this app.

Suggestion for another utility - odds calculator (for those of us whose brains don't like to think maths). The TC guys have one for their Monsterpocalypse app and I use it frequently. Different mechanics of course (dice are used to determine odds) but still useful.

This is a really great idea and will hopefully be the next addition to the app. I envision it as entering Attack, # of Attack PCs, then entering Defense, # of Defense PCs, checking options for Super Senses, Shape Change, etc., then it spitting out a number. You should be able to save these results and thus compare them against each other so that you can determine which action is the best one out of any number of possible actions. I will definitely credit you in the app if this gets done!

So far I can't get it to launch on iOS5 GM. It launches to the screen where you have to tap on line of fire button to get into the app. Once you tap it the app quits. I have an iPhone4 running the iOS5 GM, which goes live for all users Tuesday I think. Just for your info.

BTW this would make a great "desktop app" as well. I would gladly pay at least 10 bucks for this in the mac app store. (Didn't mean to sound cheap just compared with other apps I don't see most people paying anymore than this for this app for their desktop.) I currently use Excel to layout my map designs, but if there was a desktop version of this I would probably switch to this...would like the ability to make the squares shaded as well though, and include places for elevation changes.

thanks for the app and here is hoping it works on iOS5 soon....with you adding all these new features I only used it for a day or two then I upgraded to iOS5 and was like Darth Vader, "NNooooooooooooo!"

I have not tested the app with iOS 5, but will as soon as possible. I would love to do a desktop app one day, but I don't know when I'll find the time to look into it

Dude, iOS 5 broke a lot of my apps. You should look into it ASAP. Its due to how they do memory management now with their new system called Automatic Resource Counting or something. Good luck.

You cannot claim copyright to something as ambiguous or universal as a crosshair or "smoke." That's not how copyright laws work.

Looks like iOS 5 broke it. It will launch but when I click the "Line of Fire" button the app crashes. Anybody else? This is on an iPad. Haven't tried it on the phone yet.

Also, something I noticed the other day regarding Great Size (giant/colossal) & line of fire:

In the 2011 rules outdoor blocking terrain doesn't block the characters of great size. Indoor does. In the app if I line up 2 GS characters with blocking between them it's blocked. Perhaps you could add in a new terrain type (outdoor blocking, indoor blocking), map type or something to update it? It's always a confusing topic in the venues I play at for many players. Or maybe it's already in there and I missed it.

Anyways, great app. I like it. And the new features are nice! Thanks!

I got it today and it works nicely. I am looking forward to more additions (hopefully). I have noticed that the app crashes when trying to use a custom image from my already made photos. (iPad 2, iOS 4)

The developer is aware that it's not working in ios5. And is working on a fix, if you would have taken the time to have read the above posts. Ios5 broke a lot of apps. It's been out for a week now give developers time to respond.

New Update!

What's New in v1.2
----------------------------
* Fully compatible with iOS5
* Fixed bug where custom images for the Hero and Target are not preserved when the sizes for them are changed
* Fixed bug where choosing a custom image did not account for orientation, which could lead to selections being rotated incorrectly
* Fixed bug where choosing a custom image for the Hero or Target on an iPad would cause the app to crash
* Added Indoor/Outdoor mode, which determines whether blocking terrain and walls block LOF between elevated and non-standard sized characters

I'll have to check it out; my brother and I almost always have LoF questions arise when we're playing clix.

Thanks,
