View Full Version : Twists on Head-to Head Tournaments
I am curious about the different types of themes you have played in. I am not talking about the general 300pt Firelord dominated melee.
I am looking for ideas for future tournaments. For example my next tournament is a 500pt. head to head in which all members of your team must be members of the same group (such as the Brotherhood). No duplicate figures allowed and no "no affiliated" figures.
Let me know what you think of this tournament and chip in suggestions for future ideas.
maybe a no flyers game or maybe a all figure are counted as a flyer e.g R quicksilver is a taxi just a few thoughts to mix up the teams a bit
Thanks. Does anyone else have a suggestion?

try useing some of the scenarios, some of them totally suck ###, but not all of them. some times they can make even the best of teams lose.
we had an idea of a 400 point army, of which you choose a 200 point team, if you lose a character in a match that character is out of your team and you choose from your reserve 200 points to fill in for the lost character..
Be Creative and try new things
If you use scores for ranking, then you can use a Swiss tournament format for picking 3 or 4 somes.
Essentially, keep running score totals, and, at the end of every round put the 4 players with the highest scores on one table, the next 4 on the next table and so on.
At the end you can have an elimination tournament with the top 4 or 8 players.
Thanks again. Keep the suggestions rolling in. I am taking notes.

Worst team possible tournament:
Build the worst team you can come up with between 195 and 200 points. No duplicate figures. Each game, you trade teams with your opponent, so you play with their team, and they play with yours.
Archaeon,
That's a great suggestion. I may use that one.

We played a tourny, once, where the players made a 500 point team as normal. However, once they got there.. they switched their teams with the opponent. It certainly made things interesting.

sundevil runs some great tournaments and most have themes.
Recent ones include:
1. Everyone must be on the same team. One wildcard is allowed, but it can't be the most expensive piece in the army.
2. 500 pts - no support, regen or steal energy. First to KO 250 points from the opponent wins.
3. All female teams
4. Theme teams only (themes are NOT team names, abilities, etc,). Example: All Birds, All bald people, etc.
5. Everyone must have a super power in common somewhere on the dial.
We also have scenario tournaments - one was based on a mist that descended on the field (sorry sundevil, but my lack of comic knowledge is showing - I can't remember what the mists were called). All ranges were cut by 1/2, critical misses KO a figure. Crit Hits KO a figure.

How about a minimum number of figures tournament? For example you play a two hundred point game but the minimum number of figures you can have is around nine or ten. Forcing the players to either choose a moderately high costed main figure and surround him with lackeys or a entire low point team like SHIELD.

After all your players set up on their sides of the map, instruct them to switch places with their opponent, and leave their figures where they are. They have to win the game with the army they were about to fight. We did this at a tourney and had a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!

We play scenarios all the time at my venue.
1: Light gravity world all characters get leap climb and superstrength
2: Junk world. Use as many as 24 objects
3: Doom in the middle Put a V Doom in the middle of the map He has a random chart and acts once a turn. He can summon doombots and really adds a dimension to a game. You could do the same with Darkseid, V Hulk, Thanos and so on.
4: Draft teams My group loves this one. Everyone brings in a 30 point team. all the Figs are put in the middle and we draft the team you are playing. We draft an equal number of figs and play with the team you draft. This one is really fun.
