View Full Version : 400 Points or more???
Does anyone play more than a 400 point game??? Everytime I see a posting it's a team for 200 points, 300, 400... maybe 500. I usually play a 1000 point game if not more. A 400 point game doesn't let me use all my favourite figures at once. I want to use Thor, Doomsday, The Hulk, Nightmare, Juggernaut and Sabertooth all in the same game.
Heroclix is a smokin game, and I want to make the game as fun as possible. And what's more fun than having two teams filled with powerhouse figs go toe to toe.

Sure enough! We're using a 500-point game right now... and we have used 600-point games before. I guess it depends on your preferences... I suppose that most people keep it under 400 just to keep in practice for the tourneys (which I believe go no higher than that). Anybody have a variation on that note?

There are a few mindsets reguarding this question. Some hate the idea of the larger point game because they feel that they take too long. Some can't stand the small point games because they can't play enough figs...
I like both myself. If I've got limited time, a quick 300 or 400 point game is great! I still have to say that I enjoy a game more when I have a good chunk of time and at least 600 to 700 points. 1000 point games are the bomb! :)
I've NEVER played a 200 game and never will. There's just something wrong with a game that's set so low that some figures can't even be played by themselves...

Yes, the higher the points for the game the longer it is. Sometimes a 2 hour, 1000 point game seems a little long.
However sometimes I get that urge to do the ultimate 1500 point showdown. :D I love this game!

Only 2 hours for a 1000 point game?? Man, you must play a lot faster then me! The 700 to 1000 point games usually take us a minimum of 4 hours... :)
But that's ok, we love it anyway! I tend to play slower and strategize more like chess when I'm not in a tourney. Tourneys are fun and all, but a bit rushed in my opinion...

ONLY 1000 points??? Once I did a 3500 point team.
It was totally evil w/ OWAW supes vet bane unique catwoman vet nightwing vet steel exp bats vet firelord exp ultron and a ####load more.
Well I've definately got enough clix for a 3500 point game, but I'm doubtful that many people want to sit around that long for the game to end.
Earlier today I had a team of:
Vet Thor
Exp Thor
Vet Hulk
Vet Doomsday
Quasaar
Nightmare
Vet Sabertooth
I believe thats over a 1000 points there. That's only 7 clix. I've got over 100 figs. It's fun when you're doing a game for 1000 points, but you can only use characters under 100 points. That's alot of figs.

Is there enough space on the map for a 1000 pt game? I mean, i love the idea but isnt it a bit cramp especially on an indoor map? I have never played a game above 400 pts.

I have played large games(anything over 600 gets to crazy, unless you limit actions,i.e. only have 3 actions instead of six), and I have played in small games(100 pts-2 actions). One of my pet peaves of the game is that we hardly ever get to finish a game,( and I'm not talking about timed matches in tourny's). After a few hours someone will have to leave or what-not, and we all just stop the game. Because of this, I seem to like the smaller teams, and it's a lot more challenging to make a smaller team that can be competitive. If we finish tourneys early and have some time left, we play this easy scenerio:
each player picks any 3 characters he wants on his team. Point cost doesn't matter, and you can have as many players on one map as you want(after the 4th or 5th you may wanna use two maps). Each player gets 3 actions, and it's last man standing to win(unless everyones gone home already, lol). This is a good chance to play power figs you normally wouldn't play in a smaller type army, such as kang and thanos,ect.....
thats my story and I'm sticking to it.(hehe)

It all depends on what figs you use in the game. I've played a 1000 pt game and used 20 figures... but then, like I listed above, I used only 7 clix. There are so many combinations. A few times I've used R/E/V Hulk and R/E/V Juggernaut with a few medics.
But yes the indoor map can get a little crowded. I preffer the outdoor maps. A buddy of mine has a table cloth with 1 inch squares. We just make our own obsticles to put in the way.

ok you guys the major point value games are awsome but i never can get my friends to play huge games exception of one the biggest i have ever played would have to be four maps to gether and all good guys versus all bad guys we rolled to picked good or bad i got good but the best part is(well i am only 15) that my dad plays and collects and or buys out rihgt so we have every charecter from regular sets but not all the le or xplosion and man did that game last long

I don't really go over 600, mainly because it gets a bit hectic, and it becomes kinda hard to keep track of actions and stuff...I once played a 3-player, 600 point game, and there were like 40 pieces on the board at once! It looked cool, and it was really fun, but what a marathon slugfest! I think if I went above 600, there would have to be action-limiting - I mean, a 1000 point game with 10 actions per turn would take forever...but it would probably still be really fun.

I'm a big advocate of huge point games. I remember the first 1000 pointer my Brother & I played way back when IC came out.
Ever since then, my preferance has been for the big point games.
This past weekend, I played in a 3 way 2000 pointer that lasted from 1:30 in the afternoon 'till 2:30 in the morning. It was a blast.
what I usually will do is clear off my sizeable dining room table, then set up the maps. I'll usually fold the maps in such a way that there are some indoor sections along with a lot of outdoor. we just agree that you cannot soar on the indoor segments. In the 2000 pointer, we limited it to 15 moves a turn. With all the free moves/Leadership, many times you won't even need them all.
We play a draft style no-dupes across the board, (I have Thor, You can't use Thor) and I have a couple of stat sheets that we fill out our teams on, and keep track KO by KO of which figs are KO'ed in what order. It was cool - in this 3-way battle, Harley Quinn KO'ed Unique Batman, Daredevil KO'ed Bullseye, Logan KO'ed Sabretooth, Dr. Doom KO'ed Mr. Fantastic, and Captain America KO'ed the Red Skull! Good times were had by all.
It's funny - I think that there are certain nuances to certain figures that the exclusively tournament players won't ever fully get to comprehend. Sure, Dr. Doom ain't that great on a 300 point team. But team him up w/ 5 Doombots and a bunch of team abilities to use, and look out! Then tack on another 1000 points! Don't even get me started on the 'ol Nightmare/Ultron combo. Nightmare sucks? Sucks like a fox!
Tourneys around here are always 200 points.
We usually play 300 point games, but sometimes multiplayer, which makes it the equivalent of 600 point games (never done more than that.) Frankly, I just odn't see how you would keep track of all the clix on the board with much more.

Action limiting is what we usually do with 1000+ point games. Usually 6 actions plus modifiers like leadership and free moves for a 1000 point game and no more that 10 action plus modifiers no matter how high the points go. That keeps things moving a bit more... :)

It *IS* challenging to keep track of everything going on in a large point game, but that's part of what makes it fun. If you start focusing too much on one area of the map, your opponent can sneak up on unsuspecting figs and slam you good.
Some people claim that the large point games lowers the "thinking" part of the game and turns it in to a free-for-all brawl. I disagree completely. After playing pleanty of small and large point games, I have to say that the large point games are much more strategic and mentally draining. You can literally regroup and turn the tide of a game vs. a small point game where you really have no hope if a key figure of two are knocked out. It's a mental marathon really so if that's not your thing, I wouldn't suggest it... :)

I've played in 2 1000pt games and 2 2000pts (these were tournies at a local venue.) We limited it to 5 actions the first time (a 2000pt game) - though I was lobbying for even less. The second time I think we cut it down to 4. We had 6 guys on two connected maps and only got in two rounds each before time ran out. This last 1000 pt game we only did 3 actions. (This time I would've preferred 4.)
It seems to me that anything over 5 actions is way excessive. Just with 5 actions, with leadership and free move taxis you can get in 6 attacks. With a well constructed team that means whoever goes first can pretty much decimate his opponent of choice (unless you're playing on a larger-than-standard map).
My opinion is that actions should be limited to 4 per turn, regardless of team size. With leadership, you're still getting 5. I suppose if you aren't all building the toughest possible teams, but rather doing themes, then you might be able to go with higher numbers of actions, but with power gaming it rapidly gets out of control. Even a 400pt vet ultron team with 4 shield agents, he can triple energy explode for 15 clicks at the epicenter. That will take out a Nightmare or a Thanos without even having to outwit Invulnerability first! It's hard to imagine a team being able to recover from a first strike like that.
