Today’s preview is a double whammy of fighting females from the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate, or S.H.I.E.L.D.

First up, we have the S.H.I.E.L.D. Specialist! At only 37 points, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Specialist brings potent punch to the battle! [...]

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Specialist is an inexpensive addition to your S.H.I.E.L.D. forces, and are all the more effective when combined with their one-time director, Maria Hill! [...]

These, combined with the Sinister group, the gravity feed version, and Sharon Carter, makes for a lot of lady agents, which is cool. Weird they didn't give the generic the soldier keyword.

So we know we're getting Dirk Anger in this set. Who thinks he'll have a useless HATE keyword and no Nextwave keyword (the way it should be)?

Hope we get Victoria Hand in this set, too. And an updated Sharon would be nice (with the Avengers keyword), although not necessary.

I like these two. I'll be playing some SHIELD teams after this set comes out. Hopefully we get a Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in this set as well to give us even more women of SHIELD. Maybe as one of the LE's?

Looks like they went to the same plastic surgeon as Sin.

Jokes aside, always great to have more SHIELD fodder... now if only we could get some HYDRA love

Nifty. Not a fan of Support, but if we have to have it this is the way to do it.

It'd be cool if we get a male figure that's a generic that ramps up to a Clay Quartermain, Alexander Pierce, or Jasper Sitwell.

It's Penetrating/Psychic Blast, now, to represent armor piercing rounds and the like. Or do you just mean in the "that character shouldn't be dealing penetrating damage" sort of way?

Yep, I mean, i thought characthers like Thanos or Galactus can hurt you in a way that you can comeback. But seen a little soldier (sorry, as i say before, i don't know who these gals are but looks just like a regular soldiers) doing penetrating damage when I never ever seen Superman heat vision doing that kind of damage is weird.

Sorry by the offtopic!
But i still can't understand that someone like a soldier or Prowler have Psychic Blast...

Here's hoping Dirk Anger's sculpt and dial are as good as most of the NEXTWAVE team.
...and please don't be an SR!

Love that Maria isn't limited by proximity to an agent to grant that SP enhancement.

I agree. P/PB is becoming way too common. The point of having Invulerable/Impervious characters who normally have bullets bounce off of them in the comics now have to be concerned about the 50+ or so Modern Age figures with P/PB.

On the other hand, I love SHIELD, so I'll be sure to shoot through some damage reducers!

Should SHIELD Agents have the Soldier keyword? I've always thought of them more like CIA or FBI agents or cops than soldiers. This one in particular seems more like an analyst with good field training than infantry.

Given that the Secret Warriors are a subset, she should be in the set normally.

But then again, they made three members of Uncanny X-Force into LE's, so...

I always compare these Generics to Hammer and Checkmate. It looks like Shield would bring something different to the mix. Though I'm not sure how good they would be.

I gotta say I would prefer the Wall or Normie over Maria Hill.

Outwit and Support on a 35-point Generic with the SHIELD TA? Thank goodness they don't have the 'Soldier' keyword.

(If I seem bitter, it's because I expect to face these all. the. time. now.)

Seriously, I thought Game Design knew better. Not cool, guys. :(

Friendly characters are characters that you control. There's no reason why Maria Hill's power wouldn't work on herself.

Usually if the power wasn't meant to work on the character using it, it'd say "other friendly characters".

I'm really happy with this set so far, it won't actually cost me a bomb to pick up what I need so far! I am BROKE after GSX so need a breather and a chance to use all the new stuff, so more than happy for people to get all these no namers like Squirrel Girl/Dirk Anger/Sin etc.. seriously hoping a lot of them are SR as well! But it is inevitable that at least 2 popular chars will be busted to SR (I feel Viper/Red Skull or that Black Panther looks like a SR style sculpt. It also goes without saying that te Weapon X will be SR) So far I'm just needing:

Red Skull
Black Panther
Nick Fury
Black Widow
Viper (inevitable)
Possibly Bucky (if he is not SR and is decent)
Weapon X
Human torch (only if it's Johnny)
Maria Hill
A few Shield mooks
Hawkeye (pretty sure they will make one for shield)

I'm more than happy with HoT Cap as the definitive cap to play (dont need another)

Btw...would it be possible to make Agent Coulson now? Or is he Movies only?

No No No! It's a fine /DC/ tradition to steal characters from their other media for the comics, not Marvel.

It's lame that a Shield Agent can pierce the Hulk's hide so easily. I agree with what others are saying. It's like WK is giving out psychic blast like candy. There's now no reason to field any brick figure, and please don't talk about positioning, the reason to play a brick is to throw him out there into battle to begin with.

Dragon
06/03/2011, 18:14
I'm sorry, but I hate that Maria Hill b/c she is so inaccurate. PB is lame on her as is Mastermind. She would never bother attacking the Hulk herself or anyone of that level she would bring in the cape killers. Also she wouldn't use one of her agents as a human shield. I mean seriously her dial makes me sick to think we finally get her and this is how her dial looks. The minions should have had the same trait as the Hellfire guards to represent them diving in front of her not her pulling them into harms way. Also no leadership for the director? They finally make it worth using and then it just disappears!?!

Two thumbs down.

I see Mastermind on the good guys a little differently. She's not making anyone take the hit to protect herself, and while subordinates may try to protect her, there's just a magical tendency for the no-name SHIELD guys to go down fighting while the major characters live to fight another day. That's all this is.

I'd rather Maria Hill be able to Enhance the high-point character on the team, not allow them to use it. I don't really see the point of that. The big gun is the one who going to be taking the money shots, not the minions. This is a bit disappointing. I like the Specialist, but Maria Hill isn't that great.

Good point!

There isn't even a giant figure that represents him well enough to be worth modding...

I don't know, she can make Nick Fury and a troupe of soldiers pretty great.

Even a pretty ramshackle team like this could be pretty competitive.

Nick Fury 100
Maria Hill 72
Clay Quartermain 22
Sam Wilson 53
SHIELD Specialist 37
SHIELD Agent (IC E) 12
SHIELD Trooper (CT E) 14
---
298

Nick's and Sam's Leadership keep the soldiers shooting, and Maria's granted Enhancement means even the mastermind fodder can pull their weight if they get a lucky roll.

i see that as the beauty of the power. your tentpole is already awesome (or atleast it should be), this power let's him give back to the rest of the team. presumably on a shield theme team, all those minions can swarm around your big guy and suddenly their piddly damage is bumped up so their worth more than just as mastermind fodder or used for the shield team ability.

but wait, there's more: on shield team they can add more range damage buffs and make it that much easier for your army of minions to cap out the rule of 3 on damage.

Cool figures! Loving the previews!
Quick question: how would Ms. Hill's Damage SP ("S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, For Now" which allows her to grant Enhancement to a friendly figure with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword and with the highest point value) work if the two highest point-cost figures on the team were her and HoT Captain America; i.e. - both 72 points? Could you choose either one to reap the benefit of that power? And then switch the next turn?
Just curious. Thanks for any help on this!

The one shot came first for one specific reason...they wanted to make sure they own the rights to the character and his appearance not the cartoon company...not as big a deal for DC as they produce most of their own cartoons (not counting Teen Titans and the old 70s stuff) so they can easier bring over Harley and others

Still not impressed with this set so far. I even went back to look at Steve Rogers and not a single figure I need yet. Very sad to say as the last few sets have been SELL OUTS so maybe it's time for a "dud" set overall.

So far its looking like a 60 figure martial artist Watchman set. The re-paints and sculpts are horrible so far. I'm really looking forward to the Weapon X piece. But one piece won't save the set. Still crossing fingers that starting next week we start getting some meat of the set previews.

Amora's_best_friend

I'm not sure how you can make any judgement on the set as a whole, given about 10% of the set has been previewed.

Qui-Jan
06/04/2011, 12:55
I can't entirely dis' this set with only 5 previews. The quality of the sculpts and the repaints of the same sculpt used over again is the question. Its kinda hard to get pumped when you hear about an X amount of new characters never been done in HeroClix form. And then the lacking effort on the total some of the set.

The game play and design of the characters dial is not the question. Its the sloppy sculpts and the multiple repaints. DC75th for example, seems like it was rushed, almost 20 repainted figures in the whole set. I'm just being honest and hope that it is taken as constructive criticism.

I just want to help let them know of our venue's concern's and praise. We all have the same buzz for each impending release. I know I will be impressed but I want the buzz whipped into a frenzy, this helps pre orders and sells of all sets. If there is for example a formula of 15 solid preview figures (3 C's, 3 U's, 3 R's, 3 SR's & 3LE's) at least a month before each release would help boost "The Buzz".

since these Army Builders just take 4 of the clix it would be cool if they did them like the Toys-r-us Sentinels and put two starting lines on it.

One be medic with the support, one be Covert Ops.

Heck with Maria Hills small number of clix she could have a alt start on here. Heck that would be a cool way to do some Alt Egos.

Just thoughts.
