No, no, not the movie! The actual color. I have been trying and trying to mix up a good, vivid purple using enamel paints, but it is just not working. Niether can I find a good purple from any of the major model paint manufacturers. I'm looking for a shade that's very bright for She-Hulk's Avengers costume, and for Green Goblin. Any suggestions? Should I go with acrylic?

Thanks,
Ed

I use acrylic. For the Green Goblin I used Apple Barrel's Wild Iris.
That's just my two cents worth. Take it as you will.

is there not a games workshop store anywhere around you? they have nearly a hundred different colors, including several shades of purple. and they're around $2.50 a jar of paint...so cheap!

they have some very cool purples!

You can get craft paint (acrylics) for $1.00 or less. This is for a 2 fl. oz. bottle. I generally use Apple Barrel or Folk Art. 2 oz. will paint a boat load of figures. Keep the caps on tight (when not in use) and the paint last for years.

I like Warlock Purple from Games Workshop, myself.

Thanks for all the tips. I ended up going with Folk Art acrylic - some shade of purple with a ludicrous name like "Pansie Violet" or something. In any case, it worked perfectly for She-Hulk's Avengers costume as well as Green Goblin. When I get them done I'll try to post them.
One problem though - the acrylic doesn't seem to spread and cover as well as enamels. Should I just resign myself to several coats, or should I thin it down more?

well if its a thick paint then yea i would thin it out a lil but try just adding a drop of water first and if its the paint i think it is you proly do need to thin it out a lil.

Why not mix blue & red together?

Trust me, I tried many, many times to mix up a purple, but it was absolutely impossible to get a decent, bright shade. Paying 87 cents for the Folk Art purple was a million times easier, and it's a perfect shade.

Why not just squish Barney?, He's purple.

Mixing purple is HELL.

Just go to Wal-Mart, or any good craft store, or any hobby shop. You can get a purple near and dear to your heart for a buck or two, and save yourself the frustration.

Life is too short to spend it trying to mix a decent purple.
