I admit I am new to the game, but do any of you feel that using two of the same figure in the same army is cheesy? For that matter, having one character in your army and the person or people you are playing against having the same character in theirs? This seems odd.

Most of the fun in playing this game, for me anyway, is recreating teams from the books. Sticking two versions of Captain America on a team seems to negate the fun of creating an Avengers team.

just wondering

I feel the same way you do, I try to make comic based teams for fun. The only time I use more than one figure wiuth the same name is with no-names like Shield guys, Aim and hydra, medics, and doombots. I don't mind if my opponent has the same figures as I do, that just can't be helped most of the time. I can't tell him not to use cap just because I have an avengers team. Of course all these rules are out the window for tournements, then never mind whether invisible girl would side with dr. doom, i want to win, haha.

Most places have a No Dup's rule of some kind in place. With as many figures as there is out right now (well after Xplosion). There should be no excuse to use dup's.

Avengers is good and all..

But what happens when I want to take my Comic related Team to a 400 pt tourney and singles only add up to 261 pts? Heh. Sure the Avengers have a plethora of big point characters to fill out their roster, the same isn't for everyone else. (Try making a Classic X-men team.. see how far that gets you. ;) )

[Edit: Below.]

Meant Classic as in Beast, Iceman, Cyclops, Jean, and the Professor.. (As we don't have Angel out yet.) Haven't done the exact math myself, bit I know that it can't be that high..

I see your point. But I was just using Avengers as an example. Could be any team. It just seems like Doppelganger world to me. Sticking all sorts of Jean Grey's all over the place. I guess it's just up to the people playing. I will probably change my views once I start playing in tournaments and get by butt kicked all over the place.

1 - In the rulebook... "Using forces from a single team or mixing characters from several teams together. In this temporal crisis, no one can predict who might join together at any given time"

Admittedly it's more of an excuse than a storyline BUT... It allows these sort of things...

If you wanna get COMPLETELY realistic (I mean realistic in a comic sense, as much of a dichotomy as that is). But you shouldn't be able to play Rookie Wolverine and Spiderman... Because while Wolverine was considered a 'rookie' Spiderman was a foetus. Heck, Aunt May was probably still a foetus. Unique Captain America shouldn't be played with ANYONE really as he was active in the late 40's...

If Wolverine goes back in time (As happens in many comics) he can meet himself, Alternate dimensions and he can fight himself. Robot duplicates, clones, Mystique shapechanges into him...

If I field say 2 Vultures, why can't One be Adrian Toomes and One Blackie Drago??? They teamed up to take on Spiderman....

Bruce Wayne as Batman, #### Grayson as Batman and Azreal as Batman... In Comic style reality it's possible for this to happen.

5 Green Goblins, 3 Hobgoblins, 5 Spiderwomen. Hank Pym is 4 different characters... Beast and Dark Beast...

I have a number of comics in front of me... (A fairly random group...)

1 - Wolverine & Gambit... A woman shape-shifts into Gambit and fools Rogue...
2 - Wolverine and Gambit again... The whole plot involves Mr. Sinister cloning himself and his cronies.
3 - no-one meets themself.
4 - no-one meets themself
5 - Avengers... Among the Avengers in this issue are Yellowjacket, AKA Hank Pym and Giant Man AKA Hank Pym, in fact one panel shows one carrying the other.
6 - Avengers - Continuing the same story but as well as Hank and Hank, Kang meets Immortus (himself) as well as there beeing THOUSANDS of Space Phantoms.
7 - Avengers - STILL the same story. And Rick Jones discovers that Captain Marvel (who has been on this adventure the whole time) is bonded to... RICK JONES, from the future (A rick Jones that has met Hawkman and Superman, but that's a different thread)
8 - Avengers - Taskmaster disguises himself as Captain America, and fools a group of Avengers for a good 10 pages...
9 - Avengers again, While Goliath (Hank) is talking to Iron Man and Wasp, Yellowjacket (hank) is flying around Avengers mansion, causeing mischief.
10 - X-men ... Nate Grey and Cable (Nate Grey) are among the X-Men who witness Wolverine being killed by the horseman of death... who is Woverine.

A RANDOM, handful of 10 comics and 8 of them have 1 person in 2 places at the same time.

I'm glad the rules allow duplicates. It allows people to field proper teams if they want, but also allows people to create a legion of Spider-men from across time to battle an Evil Spiderman leading the Sinister Syndicate...

It's ALL great comic fun.

Doesnt matter Spinebreaker Dup's equal bad. It doesnt happen enough in comics. Thats why a lot of places have a no dup's rule. Most people dont play dup's.

Spinebreaker where ya been. You dont post here to often. See ya over at that bad forum. Where its been overrun by idiots it seems. :D ;) :p

Doesn't happen enough???

I'd say ANY comic character (A-list character) will meet either a version of himself from the past, the future, an alternate dimension, a clone or a duplicate EVERY 6 months.

You can play a game using a Batman with Kryptonite Gloves which only happened once.

I Usually don't play dupes myself... but I'm glad the option is open.

I haven't been posting here too much... My last 4 or 5 posts were met with resposes like "Quit whining" or just abuse, rather than an actual response...

But I'm still here, and I keep an eye on all the threads going on...

Nice to speak to ya.

I agree, I'm not a fan of dupes.

how many times have we seen time travel in the comics? that allows dupes of anyone on a team with a realistic comic book explanation (oh, my future self came back in time to help me prepare for this aweful thing that is suposed to happen).

that being said, i don't dupe, nor do i have a problem with other people duping, it leaves holes in your team eliminating the variety and making a bigger weakness (sure you may have 5 Vet She-hulks but look at this, my Thor with Runing shot kills you before you can say "Nay")

Of course it's possible in comic book terms. Pretty much anything is, as long as the writer writes it, the artists render it and the editors approve it.

It just seems odd that you have to break out a time traveling twin line to justify a team structure. Especially when the team has 3 Firelords.
