I just saw the prizes and they look great.
Kitty Pride for the Judge and Fellowship and Crimson Dynamo (Dominic Someone) for first.
No dragon for Kitty.

Is there a prize for third place?

Technically, no.

First place gets Dimitri Bhukarin (Crimson Dynamo).

Second place gets a 'random' lvl 3 LE (although just about every Marquee last time had Clay Quartermain, so there's a good chance everyone will have the same 'random' generic LE).

Fellowship award winner gets Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat).

Actually, there is only the First place and Fellowship prizes this time. Kind of sux.

I'd be surprised to see no second place prize.

The Xplosion Marquee prizekits have only 3 figs. The judge gets one, 1st place gets one, and someone else gets the other one.

Are you surprised?

WizKids seems to be moving to just having two prizes for the Marquees. This weekend's Mechwarrior Marquee only had two, last month's Pyramid's Marquee only had two & next month's XPlosion has two.

Thats retarded, whats the point of having a fellowship prize-which stands for "it's not all bout winning, it's about having fun", when you only give a prize to the winner which impies-"it's all about winning or you're screwed"

Please explain this to me

Either I'm completely misunderstanding your point, or you misunderstood my post.

There have been two prizes in the mentioned Marquees. The prizes are Champion (for the winner) & Fellowship (for the best Sportsman). Which figure is better is usually a matter of debate. For the record, the Envoy has been getting his own Fellowship prize figure for running the event.

WizKids has always tried to keep the Fellowship Prizes & Championship prizes about the same. Yes, there is a slight bias towards first place. However, it's very slight. Look at the Mage Knight Nationals & Worlds. The first place prize was one of just about every Mage Knight figure ever produced (the Four Horseman was the only exclusion, IIRC). The Fellowship prize was exactly the same prize.

What I think is being lost in the shuffle is the 2nd place person. In many venues they consider the Fellowship prize to be the "losers prize." They never give it to someone who was in the running, unless everyone else was a jerk (and sometime even then they don't give it to those in the running). So, essentially, you have to win the event, or do badly in the event to get a prize.

I have been playing this game for about 2 months now and last weekend I finished 2nd for the first time (no first yet), when the Judge turned to me and asked how i wanted to choose my award foe 2nd i told him to give the person who had won the fellowship prize the choice she choose Le Constrictor which left me with Le Operative # 128.

dont know if she came in last or not, but no one should consider getting the fellowship as a losers prize (you would have people losing on purpose just to snag a LE) but a reward for showing the best example of FELLOWSHIP towards others.

This isn't bravado BS, this is just the way it's gonna be.

At my Marquee in Columbia, SC [schedule posted at Hero-lix's C-SC-HC page (http://herolix.neomonsterisland.com/cscc.html) , I will give up MY marquee prize to substitute the second place prize if Wizkids ONLY sends a 1st place and fellowship prize. I don't like that they are suddenly shutting the prizes down from three to two, but I will support my local S-SC-HC chapter by making sure that there are *3* LE's up for grabs. Man that burns my biscuits.

All i was saying was that...
1-wizkids says the point of tournaments is to get people out to have fun, hence the fellowship, yet by dropping one of the prizes, what they have done is make it just that more cut throat for that #1 spot.

Why is my question, how much can an extra fig really cost them? As we plunk down more money for more expansions with 96 figs and 12 freakin uniques, wizkids is cutting corners and saving money at the expense of their strongest fan base who come out to their tournaments rain or shine, sealed booster or not. to me it makes no sense.

I just hope that JonL actually attends tournaments to see the disappointment and soon to be increased number of arguements, cause now the difference between first and second could be 10 points, and ion the end those 10 points could cost you the only LE you'll see that week/month.

This further excaserbates the sortage of LE's in areas that dont have regular tournaments, and the prices on ebay will only skyrocket.

After reading this I went and looked at my own Marquee event scheduled. Direct from the template:

Champion: Dimitri Bukharin Fellowship: Kitty Pryde Judge: Kitty Pryde

I'll be snockered. They really did not send out a random LE for second place. Guess I'll be redeeming some Judge points for boosters of CT and IC for additional prizes.

Am I the only one who feels like they've been majorly dissed? Not only do they hold the Marquee on Easter weekend, but they suddenly change the LE format??

Well, if they actually send prizes to more than one venue in the area this time, they'll already be ahead of Clobberin' Time....

Bubblehead
03/19/2003, 19:26
All I can say is WOW! Wizkids can do what they want.... and they will. But I have to disagree completely with this. I really look forward to all of the SAME teams that people will use over and over and over in order to win 1st place so they can pick up that one LE. So $#*% the fellowship award. By doing this they're saying:

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing!"

Exactly what the fellowship was supposed to prove wrong cuz tournaments are supposed to be fun. Watch the fanbase for tournaments dwindle and go somewhere else.

Eh, I'm not going to bother with the Marquee then. The players are pretty hardcore already, and without a 2nd-place winning will indeed be the "only thing".

As for the Fellowship... in a 3-round tourney with more than 4 players, how are you going to know who was a "good sport"? I generally don't play HALF or sometimes even a THIRD of the players at an event. I have absolutely no idea if someone was playing really dirty or talking smack. It comes down to whoever got annihilated (with preference given to kids or females).

WereMonkey
03/19/2003, 19:52
It is even worse at the tournaments in my area... the same group of 3 or 4 will show up, and all vote for the same guy. Which would be fine if he actually was a good sport, but usually he's a ######## <insert dirty word of your choice>. I have yet to see anybody in my area win a fellowship prize that deserved it.

WHAT?! Ok, I can SORT OF handle the cutting down of prizes, but holding the Marquee on the more popular holidays around? What were they thinking? How many people here will actually be able to sneak away from your family on Easter for an HC tourney? That's insane!

No offence, but i'm rather mad. Getting Rid of 2nd is a mistake,Fellowship is a peice of bull. At least here it is,it wassent who was the best sportsman, I playied thi guy who could never come close (IMO) to beating me with the team he had,and all game we whined about not being able to do anything ,i swear he was gonna cry *sigh* and my noob friend who just started going, went down with a fight each game and never complained about lousing, sence there was only 4 of us,i got 2nd and the other guy got 1st so fellowship went between the whiner and my friend, now ,had the whiner not told the judge just to give it to my friend ,he woulda got it! (the votes where counted) Anyway,my point is, 'round here ,its just whos liked more

If they're talking smack, they don't deserve the Fellowship prize, IMO (unless it's very obviously all-in-fun).

This is a disaster.

Here in the United Kingdom we do not have many tournaments to begin with.
Now we learn that the few LE's available to us have been cut by a third.

In my area we have one guy who is really good and now he will be the only one getting LE's.

How can this be happening.

One extra figure per tournament would not affect Whizkids profits by any noticable amount. Come on guys, keep the interest in tournaments high and put the second place prize back.

Dare i mention this.
OK, I'm going for it.
If you are going to do this, why not have a redemption system for the Heroclix points for LE's that have been out for more than a year. That way the despare and drop off in interest in the tournaments will be counteracted by the desire to get even more boosters.
In other words the money will go to you at whizkids rather than to people selling LE's on the auction sites.

Well. there is my tuppence worth.
Lets hope Whizkids read these post and learn of the strength of feeling on this subject.
A responce from Whizkids is desperately needed now.

It really shocks me, hearing they cut the second price, because this is the first tournament for me as a Judge. I make it a booster sealed, so what do you think about this: I am thinking to give the fellowship price to the player who draws worst in his boosters! Do you think this is acceptable?

Unless I'm mistaken none of the Xplosion events in the UK in the next two weeks are Marquees. I believe that IC and CT LEs are up for grabs. This is certainly the case for my tournament in London on the 30th where there is a Bruce Banner up for grabs AND a 2nd prize of Wilson Fisk.

See http://www.adventure.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/heroclix/main.htm

I was at a tourney this weekend and SAW the Marquee prizes. Apparently the rumor holds true (only 2 prizes for Xplosion). Anyhow, they were Crimson Dynamo (some Russian name) and Kitty Pride. I got a brief look at them (salivating.......) and they were pretty sweet.

Re :- UK tournies - the general assumption is that venues, rather than Judges, have had the LE figs shipped to them by Hobby Games along with the initial Xplosion release. Certainly, players expect them to be available with the release of Xplosion - and if playing in an Xplosion booster draft / marquee, that is what they should get - even if it has to be after the event.

Where Judges do not have their own venue / store, things get a little more complicated - as they might have access to boosters, but not the LE's to match. This is part of the problem of not being able to deal with WK directly.

Having said that, there has been some evidance that the London based tournies have had a better supply of LE's - although I have no idea why this should be. Bournemouth and Southampton are quite civilised, after all...

Hi Lonehawk

I played in the Xplosion booster draft in Southampton on Friday 28th, and won the Dmitri "Dynamo" LE. Someone else got Shadowcat LE. So they are available over here.

All the Best
