Just curious as to who may be attending Baltimore ComicCon.

That is my B-day weekend so I will be there. It helps that I only live an hour and a half away.

I might be going (not too sure right now), but where abouts' do you live? I'm in Woodbridge va. It doesn't seem like a there really is a scene out here for clix?
I'm trying to get back into he game but it's becoming hard to find local players...

I live in King George, but mostly play in Fredericksburg at a shop called Game Vault.

Normally, I'd be all up for going to Comic-Con (I live about a half hour north of the city), but with Stan Lee there this year, it's going to be 1000% the madhouse it normally is, so I don't think I'm going... :\

I'm weird. I enjoy the madness. I went to c2e2 hours in advance just to make sure I could get the WL Batman and Flash figs this year, and line up for some commissions and autographs as early as possible.

I like the chaos, too, but I just think this year is going to be too much. Especially when the last couple of years, I haven't really had that great of a time at Comic-Con. The panels were lousy, and the whole atmosphere was just...off.

Last time I really had a great time at Comic-Con was in 2008. And yeah, I even stood in line for Geoff Johns and James Robinson (twice).

Mostly, I'm looking for back issues, trades and clix, and just to enjoy being in a community of fellow nerds, but even all that has just been...meh, the last couple of years.

Sad. I haven't been to b-more in a long time. But I heard 2010 was really good. I loved c2e2 the past few years and Chicago Comic-Con was great in 2008, but I missed it the past few years, but now that I am back on the East coast, B-more seems to be the biggest bang for the buck for me.

Really? 2010 was boring as flip, especially because most of the major writers and artists had to pull out for the Toronto con because of the date change... 2010 was a total washout, IMO.

Yeah some of the artists and writers I know said they really enjoyed it.

Maybe because it was low-key and there was nothing going on? Or maybe it was the fact that since the major publishers weren't well represented, the web comics and self-published guys got a little more exposure.

Yeah they said low-key but most people I talk to work for major publishers, but they said it was easier for them to meet fans and vice-versa.

Traditionally that's what separates Baltimore from the huge cons like C2E2. It's big enough to attract a lot of attention, but small enough that the creators get to really connect with the fans. That's what they've always said they like about Baltimore, and usually, they're right. It's just that the last two years kinda sucked.

LoL, I'm in there almost 2x a month or just randomly coming by. Cathy is awesome. Great shop. She told me about the Bi-Weekly "Clix Sundays". Let me know when you guys get together. I need to get back into playing and I have TONS of questions to ask and see being preformed.
I have tons of Silver Age ( I'm guessing?) Clix and very little Modern Age Clix. Need to know whats the main difference and whats the deal with Keywords?! I don't remember them being THAT important.
But yeah, I'll start posting here a lot more then if I know this is THE site to go to...

Cool man! We're always looking for more friendly players.

Golden age is all figures, feats and battlefield conditions.

What most people call Silver age is all figures, but no feats or BFCs (this is what we typically play)

Modern age is all non retired sets/figs. The last sets retired were Crisis for DC and Mutations and Monsters. So those sets and anything older are gold/silver age now. Anything newer is Modern.

I'm not big on the BFC, Feats, ByStandards & such. When the cards jus' came into play, I had left out from playing, so maybe Universe was my last set?! Not sure. Willing to learn but I really like playing Themed Comic Accurate Teams (mostly Villians with Henchmen). Willing to learn how to make a more viable Tourny Team. Right now, I really just want to learn the Game/Meta game.

So when is the next GV Session?

A week from Sunday. I believe it will be a booster draft. Some come on out and play.

Also, I love doing theme teams too. When you asked about keywords, that is how you build a theme team. If all the figs share a keyword you get a bonus to your initiative, plus theme team probability control.

I think his focus was on the comic accurate side, though. Keywords and theme team rules were created to encourage that kind of play, but it's much more often used on the other side of the spectrum, to facilitate min-maxing without any thought to a real "theme" or "comic booky-ness."

Okay, so it juswhat it says in the book. Okay, just over thinking it then.
So not this coming Sunday (the 10th), but on the 17th? What about "random" sundays. Non Event days? Cathy said that there were a BUNCH of players from Woodbridge that play in the store. I need to see if they play on random days...

Well sort of. When I started playing, TA's were huge, Keywords just kinda an after thought. But, from I what I have been reading, it seems Keywoprds can make or break a character as far as it being a Tourney team piece as opposed to just being Comic Accurate. Shame, but I get it. I'll have to adapt two mindsets to play now. Casual Cobic-ish, and Tourny "Dick" mode, lol. I play/ed Magic so that grove shouldn't be that bad...

BTW I'm trying to make a "Group" on this site for the DMV ( ALL of MD, DC and VA). Let's try and keep this going, but let's put this there to get more attention to it, uinless there is already an active thread (that I couldn't find)...

We do play on Random days as well. We were supposed to have a Colossal tournament this Sunday, but the person who runs everything had family issues come up. We were thinking we might get together this Friday with just a few of us. Once I find out, I can let you know.

@mohenjo: I'm in Woodbridge (about 30+ mins south of DC). I play at my house or will start playing 30mins/miles further south of me, in Fredricksburg VA at "The Game Vault". (http://www.thegamevault.net/)

Yam

Yep Game Vault is where we play.

Good people there for the most part haha.

I think Next Sunday (The 17th) is the Cap Booster Draft.

I don't ever really remember seeing a group off anywhere playing HC, on the showroom floor. Maybe somewhere off site? But I can bring something myself and we can try to get some games in.

Tim Drake
07/09/2011, 13:05
Yeah, there's really no good place to play at Baltimore Comic Con, unless you're lucky enough to commandeer one of the lounge tables on the mezzanine level I guess, but those are pretty far away from the convention activities.

grendel542
07/09/2011, 22:24
last year they had plenty of tables at the food court area and it was a lot cooler over there. yeah they are round but they are perfect for clix games. just show up with some stuff and we can shoot some dice!!

huronblakhart
07/11/2011, 05:58
I wonder why there isn't a stronger showing of clix in such a "gamer" populated area? But I'm down for a good brawl. Haven't played in years though so I'm really out of touch as far as being competitive. With my friends, we tend to just play very comic accurate teams/themes. Gonna try and get some games in before hand...so at least I give you guys a good enough game, lol.

Anybody that's going should check out this offer from Munchoboy:
http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showpo...5&postcount=33

If you help a fellow realmser get a WoS Spidey for Stan to sign, Muncho will replace the brick figure AND send you a chase figure. It's a win-win.

Note: the offer is only good for the first person to get a WoS Brick Spider-Man into adamical's hands, so act fast.

Yeah I loved it! First time to the Baltimore Con and it is the best I have ever been too! Albeit the only other one I have been to is the Philly Wiz Con, but the last two years were terrible! Last time I enjoyed that one was the first year they did it back in 03'. From now on it's the B-Con for me!
