Legion of Super Defenders vs the Society of the Spider

[Gargantua]

Every once in a while, flyingicarus and I bring out this old chestnut of an idea. It's a different amalgam universe, No Marvel, no DC. The teams we know are changed, merged in strange ways with others. In this universe, Spider-Man joined the Justice Socitey and brought a lot of his friends with him. Thus the Society of the Spider was born.

"A threat!" Dr. Strange awakens out of a sound sleep.

"Stephen!" his wife Clea says in the bed next to him. "My love, what is it?".

"Something unlike anything we're faced before. A unique force that we must be ready for. Legion of Super-Defenders," he says going into a trance, "You are needed."

Timber Wolf pops in front of him, half-asleep and naked, just having gotten out of bed. "This method of calling out the team has got to go, Doc. Could ya get me some pants, please?". With a nod he's outfitted.

"Oh I don't know, Brin, I rather enjoyed the view," Phantom Girl says as she appears next to him.

"Certain way to scare away the bad guys," Cosmic Boy says.

"Laugh all you want," Brin Londo says, "I can't be the only one caught unprepared for this alarm."

Lightning Lad suddenly appears dressed only in a bikini brief with a lightning bolt across it. They stare at him. "What? Irma loves it!" he replies.

Gargoyle blinks in next.

"Isaac, old friend!" Steven calls out.

"It's good to see you, Stephen," he says shaking his friends hand. Sniff, sniff..."Do you smell something? It's like burned chicken?".

"Yeoooowwww!" a naked Howard the Duck arrives in near the fireplace, his feathers roasted. "Man, every single time!".

Incidentally, it's worth noting that for JSA and Defenders, the TA says that they may share the unmodified defense value of an adjacent character. So adjacent characters can share Spidey's regular 18DV, but not his modified 19.

"A threat!" Dr. Strange stood up suddenly.

"A threat, Doc? What is it?" Wildcat asked.

"It's something dangerous, but that's not important right now," Spider-Man joked. He and Wildcat had accompanied Strange back to his brownstone after their latest adventure.

"Something unlike anything we're faced before. A unique force that we must be ready for. Society of the Spider," he says going into a trance, "You are needed."

"Y'know, I was never really comfortable with that name," Spider-Man admitted.

"It was you that brought us together the first time," Jade reminded Spider-Man.

"Yeah, well maybe, but we don't call Congress 'The Washington Club', do we?" Spider-Man pointed out.

"It's a lot nicer than some of the things I call Congress," Daredevil admitted.

"Prowler, ready for duty," the hero appeared.

"And me! So cool!" Jakeem said, summoning his Thunderbolt.

"You know, Doc, that s really disconcerting," Jessica Jones said. "Did you ever stop to think...wait a minute, is that you?" she asked, pointing across the square where another Dr. Strange was surrounded by another group of heroes.

"It is," Strange admitted. "As I said, this is a most...unusual threat."

Strange rolls for perplex: 5.

It's too easy not to do this. Lightning Lad rs to J5 attacking Wildcat & Spidey with armor piercing. Strange ups his dv to 12. Rolls 8. Spidey's ss roll is 4, for this Spidey that's a miss. Wildcat takes 1, Strange takes 1, Jakeem takes 1. DD rolls for ss: 5, he's safe.

Jakeem's new dv creates a problem. i don't think I dare push my luck on getting another good roll. Cos tks Garth to M2.

"I suppose it's too late to say back off, isn't it?" Lightning Lad tells his foes as he unleashes a chain of lightning that shocks several of them, even Jakeem Thunder.

"Yeooow man, I thought you were immune to lightning," Jakeem says to the Thunderbolt.

Steam comes off the Thunderbolt, "I guess not...".

I'm assuming you meant that it was Lightning Lad's range you Perplexed up, because otherwise it doesn't work from there. Not sure how I figured I'd be safe where I was.

Not really anything I can do here except hope that Jakeem's 19DV holds out. He and Jessica make his DV21, though he can't share that.

Feeling a bit frisky I'll use that to up Lightning Lad's av to 12 again and he'll rs to J5 targeting Wildcat & Strange. Rolls 11. Solid. 2 to Wildcat, Strange, DD rolls 1 for ss so he takes 2, 1 to Prowler, Spidey rolls 4 for ss so 1 to him....the bright spot is Jakeem. He can use protected and take a token. 1 to Garth but it's so worth it.

I realize that I've still left myself vulnerable to another EE barrage from Lightning Lad, the way I'm set up, so I'll have to break it up a little. Wildcat to G15. Leaves him out there to be attacked, but I have to break up the formation a little.

Jessica Perplexes Wildcat's DV to 15, offering him some slight protection.

Jakeem RS to H17 to attack Gargoyle, Perplexing his AV to 10 on DV17 +1. Gets 8 - doubles. 2 to Gargoyle after Toughness. KB to M8. Plays right into your hands, giving him PC, I know, but so be it.

Prowler gets the benefit of Jakeem's 19, passes it on to Wildcat, Strange and DD. Yes, they can chain like that.

The Thunderbolt rushes to catch the bolt, “I got it, master!” he turns giant and reaches for it. It passes through him and hits Jakeem directly.

Wildcat took a swing at Phantom Girl. Naturally, his fist went right though her. She struck back and hit Wildcat in the nose, for a knock out. She didn't get a break however, as Shang-Chi was right there to pick up where Wildcat left off. Unfortunately, he had the same difficulty against Phantom Girl that Wildcat had.

"I don't know where you came from, impostor," the Atom told the other team's Dr. Strange, "but Dr. Strange is a friend of mine, so taking his face and fighting against us is just buying you a world of hurt."

Strange put up a shield that stopped the Atom's charge. "I assure you friend, I am not the impostor."

Belle Charges to H11 to attack Strange. AV12 on DV18. Gets 6. That's 2 to your good doctor after Toughness, since Dream Girls can't help.

Jessica to G11, benefitting from Belle's JSA.

Strange on the Hulk, AV11 on DV18. Gets 5. Felicia makes it a 9. 1 to Hulk after Invulnerable, assuming I've got the right Hulk. I also assume he wouldn't use Protected, since that'd still cost him 1 for pushing.

Power Fist on the Hulk. If this is Zombie Hulk, they'll go for the Duo attack. AV10 on DV17. Gets 9. Now that he's on Willpower and it means 3 or a free token, I'm guessing the free token will win out and he uses the Feat here. They then make their second attack. Gets 8. That'll do 2 more to him.

"I get the feeling we barely hurt him," Iron Fist confessed.

"I'll give you a hand," Liberty Belle offered, "Soon as I deal with a certain annoying magic-user, uh, not meaning you of course, Doc," she clarified, dealing a blow to Strange's doppelganger.

"Of course not," Strange said, an eyebrow raised.

And even that I'll have to take away from you. Dawnstar gets one quarry per game. You already declared it to be Mid-Nite. She doesn't get to switch it now. His teammates weren't having as much luck against Karate Kid though. Jade's construct monster trick wasn't working as well as it had last time and not even the Flash seemed to be fast enough to get through his defenses.

"Oh right. Because you're never impetuous," Hellcat needled him.
