Copying the rules post from Magnito... mostly...

Things to remember:
1) A full writeup of the rules can be found here: http://www.mafiascum.net/

2) When you vote, please do so by saying Vote: [Player] in bold. If you wish to change your vote, please say Change Vote: [Player] instead. Voting for 'Nobody' is a valid vote; if a majority votes for 'nobody' then nobody will be lynched and we'll move on to the Night phase. You can vote for yourself if you choose, so be careful when leaving your vote with another player.

3) If your role says you -may- PM me a target, you don't have to do anything at night. Even so, it'll speed things along quite a bit if you'd still just send me a PM saying "Not using my [whatever] power tonight, thanks."

4) If your role says you -must- PM me a target, and you do not? I'll pick one randomly. Or, perhaps, not-so-randomly. Don't blame me if you target someone who kills you.

5) You may NOT send a PM to anyone about this game unless your role explicitly says you can. This is cheating.

6) Do NOT edit your posts in this thread. This is cheating.

7) Please do not copy-and-paste anything from any PM I send you to the thread. This is also cheating.

8) Please do not post in this thread after you are killed. This, too, is cheating and can ruin the game if done wrong.

9) Cheaters may or may not get to play in other mafia games I run. It depends on the severity of the offense.

10) Remember, it's just a game. You will get paranoid, you will be stabbed in the back by someone, you will see somebody do or say something stupid and want to smack them. Just breathe deep and relax. If things get out of hand, we do have a mod playing who will forcibly remind you to chill out if needed. It hasn't happened yet, and I'd like to keep it that way.

11) If you are inactive for more than two phase cycles, I will automatically look to replacing you. If I cannot find a replacement, I will start selecting random targets for you.

One more thing, and this is HIGHLY important...

Do NOT talk about this game until the entire game has ended. Death does not necessarily mean game over unless your character is removed from the game.

Night 0... The Coming of Lavos

Creation, a time when all things came into being. A void of space became littered with vast and impressive creations. The energies gave birth to stars, planets, suns, moons... The energies gave birth to me.

I rested within the universe, an omnipotent being proud of those I would care for over the centuries. During this time, I would be given many names: Mother, Earth, World... My favorite of all of these titles would be The Entity. I was their source of life. As I was given form and meaning, so too did I give those upon me life and meaning. For millennia, I watched as my children grew and evolved, fought and cooperated, loved and hated. I granted them free will to do as they pleased. I would not interfere in their growth, allowing them to seek out their own destinies and fates. I created a place of pure balance, but all of this would change as time flowed along.

In 65,000,000 BC, the time as my children have signified it, a parasitic entity known as Lavos came to me. He thrust himself deep within my surface, burying his whole underneath my skin. There he would remain, slowly feeding upon me and my children, my greatest creations. He gathered their data, their very structure of creation. He sought to use this knowledge to create spawns of himself that held the greatest of knowledge and power. He would then release his spawn to new worlds upon destroying the old.

Yes, this alien being was a sickness buried within me. He began to slowly kill me and sought complete ruin. In the year 1999 AD, Lavos completed his task. He arose from beneath the surface and rained fire and death upon me and my children. Though some survived this cataclysmic event, I was left an empty shell from which I could not recover. My children entered a state of suffering. I wept for them, as I was helpless to give them aide or comfort.

My only hope now lies at the end of time. I have used the last of my strength to open portals throughout time. Those chosen to traverse these portals may yet be able to save all life and prevent Lavos from completing his mission. Together, they can go back and destroy Lavos. They will restore me to my former self, and in doing so, they will allow all of my children to live the full and prosperous life that I once promised them.

Go forth, my chosen children. Save this world and all who dwell within it.

K-Ness has been killed! He was The Entity, the very life essence of the planet. In his final effort, he has set forth one chance for his children to save him and everyone else.

Now begins the story of the Heroes of Time.

Night 0 has ended, and Day 1 has begun. With 17 players, 9 votes are needed for a majority.

I recommend playing the game if possible. It's one of the SNES's best as well as one of Squaresoft's best. However, avoid the PSOne version. It's got a terrible lag.

I think I need to just get a good snes emulator on my computer, because I want to play the Megaman X games now that you're doing a mafia game for that, too.
(I've played several of the original nes games and Megaman Legends for the playstation, but I think I've only ever played part of one of the "X" games.

Megaman X is good, but it lacks the feel of the old series. There was something so classic and wonderful about the 8 bit. Granted, SNES had Megaman 7, Rockman and Bass, and Megaman Soccer, but it's not enough to draw on for a mafia game, and when I finally get out of the "Must do SNES games" mindset, I'll be all for a regular Megaman series.

Don't get me wrong, the X series is awesome. X's wall jumping alone makes the game great. X4 is my favorite of the series, but it was released for PS1 (and later systems), not the SNES.

The votes determine what items you get when you are in the cell. 7 Not Guilty votes are the best results. If majority is guilty, you get nothing.

I'd consider CT a great game if for no other reason than it had so many possible endings depending on what you did when where exactly you were n the game when you defeated Lavos. That level of complexity was almost unheard of in games before CT.

Add in the fact that it was actually a good game with interested story and battle mechanics and you've got a definite classic. Anyone that hasn't played it needs to get themselves a ROM.

I am a huge fan of the Tech System, learning Dual and Triple Techs. I racked my brain for weeks trying to figure out how to incorporate that into the mafia game, but I couldn't come up with anything short of convuluted and/or too entirely luck-based to be effective or fun.

One of the things about the different endings (I think I've managed to get 3 out of the 11), I love the cats at the end of the standard ending, how you can have up to 11 cats total! It's insanely cute!

I rarely understand why people waste votes on me or why the mafia wastes kills on me. the one game I lived close to the end on the town lost because I was too stupid to use an ability I had correctly. if I had, the town would have won. ...then again, maybe that explains why the town lynches me so often. kill the village idiot ASAP.

I usually continue following the games even after I die, just to see if I can keep track of who's who and what's what and see how successful I would've been if I would've lived ... and I usually get the townies and the scum almost entirely backwards on who I'd vote with.

I used to think I suffered from the same mafia malady that ails Jacin. Either that or I was playing REALLY gullible, cause I tended to trust scummers like it was nobody's business... But I think I've improved a bit on that. No idea what I can attribute it too, so much of our game is meta unfortunately just because we play with the same cast of characters so often.

If by "FF" you mean "made by Squaresoft" and "some kind of RPG with a leveling system", then yeah. Kind of.

Chrono Trigger is its own kind of game. While it does share some similarities with just about any videogame based RPG (Dragon Warrior, FF, Secret of Mana, etc), it really is its own sort of thing.

Day 1...

The darkness fell upon the Entity as Lavos slowly drained away its' life essence. The knowledge this parasite would gather over eons would lead to total destruction. As the heroes of time pondered their existence and how they could save this world from dying, opposing forces began their mission to facility the end, even if they were unaware that this is the destiny they sought.

Night 1... A Friend In Need...

My plan was set into motion. The arrival of Lavos disrupted the energies within me allowing me to create the gates. The heroes would use them to their advantage, but unbeknownst to them, another group would seek to use these portals now. In order to rewrite the timelines, I had to give the tools to more than just those who fight for righteousness. My greatest hope is that they can succeed without paying the ultimate sacrifice.

Now, their story begins... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NotILKfI-5o&feature=related)

**********

Deep within the Cursed Woods, the young boy traveled. He was frightened inside, but he pressed on. "I'm the hero. I have to be brave." He heard a voice behind him. "Thou is indeed brave to journey here." The boy turned to the voice and screamed ever so softly. He was looking at a humanoid amphibian. The amphibian shook his head. "Thou is not so brave after all." The amphibian began to turn away, but the boy called out to him. "Wait... Please don't go. I... I'm not brave at all. I just..." The boy started to shake. Hearing the honesty in the boy's voice, the amphibian turned back around. He walked over to the boy and looked the boy in the face. "Thou is the legendary hero. Thy medal proves as much." The boy glanced at his cape, the medal pinned to it. He took it off. "No, it isn't mine. I found it at the bottom of Denadoro Mountain. I... made up everything. It belongs to the real hero, wherever he may be." The amphibian smiled. "If thou is not the hero, why has thou come here?" The boy looked up with tears streaming his face. "I was trying to find the hero, but I can't even do that much." The amphibian said "Perhaps the hero does not wish to be found..." The boy asked "Why not? He saved Queen Leene, faced off against the Frog King, and he... wait..." The boy glanced at the amphibian's sword. "You're him, aren't you..." The amphibian looked off to the Denadoro Mountains. "I was... once upon a time." The boy glanced over to the mountains then back to the amphibian. He took the medal off of his cap and handed it to the amphibian. "Here... You still can be." The boy smiled through his tears as the amphibian took the medal. "Yes... maybe I could still be."

**********

A curious figure walked up to someone. "Let's have a test, shall we?" The person was confused but found no way out of the ensuing battle. The two would test each other for the rest of the night.

**********

In another time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr9-OcPLO3M&feature=related), someone was resting by a tree after farming all day. It suddenly occurred to the person that it was too quite for this time of night. While the birds were all nesting, the crickets should have been chirping. He got up knowing something was amiss. A few steps forward, he heard someone to his left. As he turned to face his visitor, someone slammed into him hard from behind causing massive damage. The other person also struck out at this moment. The two different forces had the same goal that night. Once they both completed their tasks, they went their separate ways. A third person showed up and attacked the person... It seemed this person was truly hated as many parties wanted him dead. Overkill would be an understatement.

Shortly after, someone came running up to the fallen individual and knelt beside him. This was not the end for him as some might have thought.

No one has died!

Night 1 has ended, and Day 2 has begun. With 17 players, 9 votes are needed for a majority.

Without getting into the specifics, I have some night kill protection, so it's quite possible that is the reason there's no kill(s) last night. Now, since I never played CT, and am not familiar with who my character is I can't really tell from the write up if I'm in it or not, that's what I mean.

Translation: "If the RTer targeted me, he should out himself without a good reason."

Please see above. Then again, since I never played CT, and don't particularly care for the game in light of that, feel free to lynch me folks, it won't be a huge loss to the town since I don't know the source material.

Sure. Because you say something suspicious, several people point it out, several more vote for you, you cave under just the slightest pressure and give out way too much information about your role and that clearly makes the people who voted for you Mafia.

I'm half tempted to vote for you just for drawing attention where it needn't be.

Just because you think you noticed something doesn't mean that anyone else did. Aside from the fact that there are any number of ways to gather information without being an investigatory role, in this case, what you think you noticed and subsequently drew attention to could be to the detriment of the Town. I mean, why not just yell, "Hey, Mafia! These guys might be the cops and the Town probably can't protect 'em both!"

Yep. That's what I do when I vote for pressure and someone gives information.

He gave an indication of his role (and probably too much information about it). Honestly, rather than what he told us, I would've preferred to get a name from him but, honestly, that would've just sent me to a wiki to try to figure out if he might be good or evil as I know absolutely nothing about this game.

Meanwhile, there were other possibilities raised by people who might've had more than a hunch and a slightly suspicious comment to go on.

Dude I have noticed a trend with some of these newer players coming on day phase after day phase with the same line: "I don't have any info." It reeks of either A) poor towny play if they're an info gatherer or B) as Rokk pointed out, a scummer trying to seem as if they're helpful or just posting some filler to make it seem like they're participating.

I don't know about wanting to lynch you, but the vote you placed on me is a little questionable... there are all sorts of legitimate reasons one player might as another how their night went.

1 - I could be a guide and, if Quebbster said he failed, then I would know that I didn't actually target Quebbster for some reason.

2 - I could be an reverse tracker and I noticed one or more other players targeting Quebbster. If something "bad" happened to him, I could possible know who did that "bad" thing.

3 - I could be an reverse tracker and I caught Quebbster targeting my target and I want to see if he lies about it.

4 - I could be a tracker and my target went after someone who I think appeared in the write up (not this write up necessarily, but in general), so I could try to confirm that target. Alternatively, I could just be seeing if they lie about who they targeted.

5 - I could have some non-standard power that lets me know other informaton that Quebbster may/may not be able to confirm.

6 - I could be just straight up fishing for info because Quebbster said something that got me curious.

And that's just off the top of my head.

dbauers

I'm confused. Why would me asking about normalview's question make people want to lynch me?

to piggyback off of what normal said, the generally accepted norm for mafia is that you should assume that normal has SOMETHING when he says that.

it is understandable to think that maybe he misinterpreted something, or to want to have definitive proof that he is correct in his info by asking more specifics, but usually the burden of proof is on the accused.

so, if you wanted to have more info, its much less scummy to try to pressure quebbster for info, rather than asking normal for more info. that reeks of "well my mafia wants to know if you are a cop, RT, dragger, etc, so we can figure out best how to deal with you." know what i mean?

I don't like the Sunflower claim.

From what I can Wiki, there are two 'Kid' characters in the game. The first 'Kid' doesn't appear until a sequel, Chrono Cross. This particular 'Kid' and the refrence to the Sunflower doesn't seem to appear anywhere except in a story that Serge must tell Esmeld in Radical Dreamers (the third 'sequel') in order to get a key.

That isn't to say e-rage is not possibly telling the truth. It's just that there seems to be enough to draw from within ChronoTrigger itself that we shouldn't have to be pulling in tangential references to minor things in the sequel games in order to provide roles for this game.

Day 2...

"Sir, there's a strange group of people here to see you." A man in simple clothes said. A man in orange with an eyepatch looked up from his mountain of paperwork. He was busy folding origami instead of actually doing anything. "Who? Strange people? Well, send them away. I don't have time for guests." The man in simple clothes replied "I believe they want to kill you." The man with the eyepatch stood up. "Do they now?" He grabbed a sword and headed outside.

The people waiting for him quickly drew weapons of various sorts, some weapons standard fair but others not so much. "Well, I see the natives are restless. Here. I'll give you someting fun to play with." The man with the eyepatch raised his hand and two large golems game flying out of nowhere. As the gathered people started to fight off the golems, the man with the eyepatch turned to run away. "Well, this won't do. I wanted to be the hope for the future, but I just wasn't given the room to grow." As he rounded the corner, someone was waiting for him. He smiled and readied his sword, but his opponent was already prepared for this and knocked the man's sword out of his hand. "I believe you forgot something" his opponent stated, then pointed behind the man with the eyepatch. The remainder of the group had caught up, carrying the smashed remains of the golems. The group heaved and hoed and then threw the remains on top of the man with the eyepatch. As the man with the eyepatch looked up, he merely said "Darn." He released a rather loud and unpleasant burp on the group.

"Everyone, get behind me! I can handle this! I am, after all, the God of War!" A strange individual stood in front of the green gas, absorbing it all... but he didn't realize that this wasn't just standard gas... He started coughing, then he reached the point where he could no longer breath. As the group of people surrounded him to try to help, they realized that there would be nothing they could do to save him. The God of war died right before everyone's eyes. It was not delightful at all.

Night 2... When History Repeats Itself...

Everything had started being set in motion. Alliances were made. Friendships and enemies were forged from the streams of time. Warriors had begun to fall. The future had a ray of hope shining, but only flow of time would tell how brightly. Even so, I began to wonder... If I was able to form these gates from Lavos' energies so that the heroes could use them to rewrite time, how would the villains use these gates?

I calmly watched the night's events (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8XXV44k1K8&feature=related), calculating the times and trials that each person went through. If only I could do more to help them.

**********

There was a knock on the person's door. The person inside got up to answer it, and a man was waiting there holding a letter. "Imperial orders." He handed the resident the letter and walked away. The resident closed the door and walked over to the table. "What could this be?" The resident opened the letter and read the instructions. "I see." The resident looked to the corner of the house at a giant object. "Sure... I'll go with it."

**********

He hovered above the field, watching his target for the night. Perhaps he was studying his target, trying to learn something. Perhaps a watchful eye to protect his target from any mishap. He would remain there for the evening.

**********

Someone arrived in a different time. Unsure of when this was, the person cautiously stepped away from the gate, but the person wasn't cautious enough to avoid running into a red robot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGaRBranaCQ). The robot began to sing to the person. "They call me Gato. I have metal joints. Beat me up. Earn 15 silver points." The person was engaged in battle for the rest of the night.

**********

"Wow... Is it that late already?" The person was so busy working there was no attention given to the late hour. "I'd better call it a night." As the person was getting ready to head home, someone sinister came walking up. "I sense great power within you. It is a power that must be stopped." As the sinister person began to close in for an attack, the intended victim began to glow. The bright aura forced the sinister person to retreat, ultimately failing for the night. The person merely commented "Well, that was pointless."

Again, no one has died!

Night 2 has ended, and Day 3 has begun. With 15 players remaining, 8 votes are needed for a majority.

I'm ready to just vote Shel because even if she's Town, not participating isn't exactly going to help us and seeing who was willing to rush in there may give us some leads.

Sorry, guys. Have been gone more today that I'd expected to be.

I'm willing toss a vote on Shel but, if it's just for pressure, we're already over halfway. However as there are, apparently, no other leads, that's the way I'm inclined to go.

Also, I'd just like to note that I usually die on Night Three (tonight). I'd like for that not to happen this game. (I'd also really, really like to get me sword back. So, if'n anyone has it, please return it to me.)

If I do some digging around on things, it fits what I know about Shel, though it wasn't immediately obvious.

The other thing that happened to me last Night - and I suspect I could've been screwed over if I didn't have a self-doubling to use - was that I received Imperial Orders saying if I didn't use them "I would be damned". It's in the beginning of the write-up. So I sent Gato to deal with Silver Lantern (the orders were I had to target him) while I checked out Shel. Figured it was a Mafia Note Sender but wondering now if that's how VDB got off'ed - ignored the orders and got blown to bits.

That's crazy. If any of you actually read the writeup you'd see what I see, and that VenomDaBomb was killed by lynching eternalrage who was probably a bomb.

Ayla was a playable character that the party had for a large portion of the game. If she wasn't here, I'd be absolutely floored.

Kino, on the other hand, was an NPC that I think we say maybe once? Twice? (without actually replaying the game to find out)

Yeah, he was part of the game and he does have a relationship with Ayla, but I can think of a lot of other NPCs that would be more important than him.

Night 3... Farewell, Good Friend...

War is never easy. People fight for what they believe in. Often they get hurt... other times they die. If I could prevent the death tonight, I would have done everything in my power to do so. But I do not control the fate of my children. I can merely offer them the way to save themselves. For this, I am sorry. Your lifeline was strong, yet here it comes to an end...

**********

She crept along, hunting like she always did. But she felt this night would be different. She would take no chances. She leapt up and came crashing down into one person. She then flew over into another person. She finally ended her assault with a third powerful kick. She then raced off into the night.

**********

A few hours later, the woman awoke to a young boy standing next to her. "Hey lady, are you alright?" The boy asked with sincerity. The woman stood and dusted herself off. "Get away from me, you little brat." The woman raised her hand to the child and was about to strike at him when she became dizzy and fell over. She hadn't recovered completely from the attack earlier. The woman began to stand back up. The boy just looked at her. "You seem hurt. Maybe you should take it easy." The little boy walked away as the woman stood there angry and confused. A series of lasers passed over her. As she turned into the direction the lasers came from, she saw someone unexpected wearing a mysterious helmet, spying on her. "For the sake of Lavos... This can't be good."

**********

She was never one for the palace life. She wanted adventure and thrills. She wanted something more than being told what to do. That fateful day when she met Crono and Lucca, she knew she was on her to something great. She was one of a long line of princesses. One day she would take the throne as Queen Leene. Marle smiled at that thought, but she was more proud of the difference she was making in the battle against Lavos.

She sat in Leene Square that night, thinking about all of the events that had transpired so far. "It's a beautiful night, isn't it." Marle turned to the voice. She gasped. "You... You're..." The person nodded. Marle began to glow with a mysterious energy. "I... what's happening to me!? It feels like before, when I stopped existing." The person said "I am sorry for this." But another person arrived. "Get outta here. She's mine." The new person lunged at Marle and stabbed her. The stab wound facilitated the process or Marle's transference into the time stream. Within a few seconds, the young princess was no more. The two attackers both went their separate ways for the night.

A third figure walked up to the fallen girl and immediately began to weep for her. This failure could never be undone.

discombobulous has been killed! He was Princess Marle Guardia (Heroes), (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yfr2zJjyR0) a young girl full of spirit and ambition, but she will no longer be able to claim the throne that was to be rightfully hers someday.

Confused this game for a moment with Mortal Kombat (being I basically got them both similar ways in both games the same day).

I'd say you're half right.

So ... zyxba and PheonixFire ... why might you gents want this day over with so quickly?

Still saying that with my amended comment?

Now, now ... that wasn't a misbegotten attempt to hammer it and shut off the conversation right there, was it?

I thought vote 6 was halfway and nowhere near being a hammer...what was I thinking. :noid:

In my last mafia we lost two lynches to not enough people putting their votes back in. I don't want to see a repeat of that, and we couldn't concentrate at all yesterday, costing us marle. I don't want it hurried up so much as I want people to remember to get their votes back in by the deadline.

Also, I can confirm I was roleblocked last night. Kitsu is correct.

Yep. Get's dirty. I don't think KO Bossy is.

Except that, voting where you had and when you had (based off of the quote of mine you were referencing when voting), you dropped what would've been a quick 8th and final vote on get had Kit and I not quickly pulled ours just before.

Sure, I suppose you could argue now that you were just trying to be the 6th vote and that you knew that Kit and I had already pulled our votes off. But, if that's the case, it's still rather curious that you would tack on another vote when you've got multiple people (including the one who, based on what you quoted before throwing your vote down, apparently convinced you to vote for get_1 in the first place) saying to pull back and give the discussion some time to simmer.

Anyone else figuring the Mafia hit their target hoping to trigger a Princess effect?

What's a princess effect?

What's your reasoning for that?

@Vlad A Princess effect means that when that person dies, the next day phase is canceled, as its supposed to signify the town mourning the loss.

Whoa whoa whoa.

All the voting here. If I'm reading right, I was this close to being lynched about an hour into the start of the day.

I'm a bodyguard. I can attempt to take the hit for someone else. And if I target Ayla, we get masoned.

Gimme some breathing room here, please? Thanks.

Guided Copping says otherwise.

Depends on the device I'm using (and, yes, I'm being greedy and not sharing them, though that's an option in lieu of using a power myself. :) )

Last Night, it was a Targeting Scope which gives me accurate guidance as I Cop my target.

That would be you.

And if someone really wants to challenge that I'm Lucca - especially since I'm the one who nailed us Mafia already - feel free to do so. It makes knowing get's teammates a tad easier. ;)

Well, I should be easy enough to prove.

If I can successfully target Kit (i.e. someone would stop blocking me), she shouldn't die and we'd be getting our prehistoric wedding on.

Forgive me just a tad if I find myself wary of that prospect. ;)
