Strange Amry Suggestions

My roommate decided that we want to start bringing strangely themed teams to the game. I am looking for some suggestions. The two I have thought of so far are-

Men Without Hats-Only male figs without hats, masks or headgear of any type also would have a cd of The Saftey Dance playing the whole time:)

Bad Hair Day - I figure Toad, Mr. Hyde, Nightmare, Arcane, Doc Oct and TO Morrow are all eligible. Any other suggestions?

how about a team with all characters holding swords or other blades. i can think of at least 5 or 6 charcters with swords or other blade objects.

i like the all-doctor idea, but why not expand it to all holders of post-graduate degrees? professor xavier MUST have at least a master's. :)

you could also make it a strategic challenge:

1. nothing but fliers
2. clix with a starting move value of 6 or under
3. a mind-control only team

How bout just buying a couple boosters before the tourney and build your team with what you pull. Or maybe no fliers. Or mass thugs. Or how bout a JSA only team. Or, the possibilities are endless...

We have thought about the all Doctor team. That is one I am certainly going to use sometime.

My roommate came up with an all bird team, off the top of my head I can come up with Hawk, Dove, Vulture, Robin, hawk man

Wolverine could also be a candiate for the bad hair team. And kudos to to you guys if you use those teams in tournaments. Having just played played in my first head to head I couldn't believe all the Firelords, Ulttrons, Doc Dtranges and Doombots. I did surprisingly well with my all unique team of Moondragon, Superskrull, Elektra and Nightcrawler. Walked away with 3rd and an upset stomach from all that CHEESE.

How about Team Molasses? Characters who only start with 5 (or 6 with a quick drop) Speed... E-Blob, V-Professor X and R-Thug are your key players, they're SLOWWWWWWWWW.

Team Phase might be fun (but expensive) - V-Kang, Dr. Strange, Vision, Shadowcat, Silver Samurai, Apocalypse (and possibly Sandman and/or Nightcrawler as they get Phasing later on).

How about a MAN team - Batman, Man bat, Plastic Man, Mandroid Armor, Superman, and spider man.

Or maybe the rainbow team Black Cat, black widow, yellow jacked, white queen, black manta, black panther, blue beetle, booster gold, Jean Grey, quicksilver, scarlet witch and once the next Dc comes out green lantern and green arrow but you could only use one of each color:)

How bout the "Doesn't play well with others" team. You could have Dr.Doom, Magneto, and Red Skull.

Only thing is you would have to test for animosity every turn.

Or you could have the affirmative action team with a vet Black Panther and an Army of thugs.

Or even the Gang army Kingpin, Mr.Fixit and buttloads upon buttloads of rookie henchmen and thugs with knukles and Joey the Snake to round it out.

My friend does an evil despot team (appropriate for the times) -
Depending on point totals he uses:
Dr. Doom, Red Skull, Kang, Annihilus, Ultron, Braniac, Magneto, etc.
The funny thing is that he role-plays the team! Often he eliminates himself from games when one despot disagrees with another's strategy and lays the smack down on his own team member. Loads of laughs. :D

How about an all fur team - The Teddybears?:
Nightcrawler, Beast (when he arrives), Gorilla Grod, Blastaar, Wolfsbane, ?


How about all magicians?:
Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, Enchantress, Doom, Dr, Fate (when he comes out) - (these guys imply magic though I'm not sure if they actually have any connection) Arcane, Swamp Thing?, Weather Wizard.

How about an all bug team:

Annihilus (okay, he's an alien but his race sure did look like and was patterned after locusts)

We had a great tourney last weekend that revolved around themed teams (and no, team names and super-powers in common didn't count as a theme).

I won with my For the Birds team.

Lots of big damage, outwit, charge, flight - it worked quite well.

Teams I rejected:
Color team
Body parts (sabreTOOTH, Red SKULL, BullsEYE, etc)
Heavy Metal (Steel, QuickSilver, Booster GOLD, etc)

The bird thing is way too easy. My personal favorites are The Heroes of Homer and the Infinity Insects (all bug team)!

The Wizard of Oz (a great one - Ulton = tin man, IG = dorothy, Sabretooth = the lion, etc)

I believe he used Swamp Thing as the Scarecrow. Kind of a stretch, but not bad. (The sculpt sort of looks like one?)

The Scarecrow is the one that requires the most imagination... unless Cosmic Justice gives an actual Scarecrow fig. :)

There's Weather Wizard for the Wiz... or even someone like Puppet Master or TO Morrow would look the part.

Here's another suggestion for you. Try playing a bunch of arch-enemies for popular figs in your area. Such as Mr Fantastic if there's alot of Doom's running around, Hobgoblin if Spiderman is popular, perhaps Joker (I imagine Batman is big)...umm, maybe even Black Manta? Ok, no one really plays Aquaman, so you probably don't need to worry about that. Anyways, once you have a few arch-enemies together, your goal for your games could be to KO the appropriate arch-enemy to get the double points. That should prove to be a decent challenge.

And to prevent all the overnatched AEs on your team (Mr. F, Hobby, Joker) from biting it, play them as an "Acts of Vengeance" Team. All of them go after a non-AE and leave the killing blow to their teammates.

I played an all Elektra & Mandroid Armor team in a tourney last week. It had every version of Elektra and four Mandroids. And I didn't do that bad either. It's fun playing with BCF, and I gained a new respect for the Clobberin' Time Elektra.

I also came up with a team of anti-heroes, ambiguous leaners, and that kinda thing.

Blade (R) - mad vampy hunter guy, not always 'good', per se.

Logan (R) - anti-hero deluxe.
Hulk (V) - the monster, driven by his own savage impulses alone.
Jean Grey (V) - later to become the Phoenix, having relationship issues with Scott and Logan at times...

If I actually had Savage Hulk or Phoenix, the teams would be more obvious, but this is what I had.

I also thought of 'Royalty' Teams, or Titled ones. White Queen, Puppet Master, Black Panther (he's a king, non?), Kingpin...
Also, like previously mentioned, all-magic teams (Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, Hercules, Mojo - cheesy, but another word for magic...) or all Gizmo Folks - you could use Iron Man, Ultron, Doombots, Hobgoblin, Ultron...

I also had a St. Patrick's Day team thought up for not long ago. Hulk, Whirlwind, Doc Ock, Skrulls, Vulture, Mr. Hyde, Hydra kids, She-Hulk, Rogue, Doomfolks, that kinda thing. They look really snazzy lined up.

Anyway, time to have a bowl of Honeycomb.

How about "Girl's Night Out" - Dove, Harley, Invisible Girl, Moondragon, White Queen, etc. Once you start picking up some explosion, you can make a kick-### girls only team.

Alternately, you could play a "Swimsuit Model" team if you want to get a little more specific, with White Queen, Moondragon, She Hulk, and the Blob (all the character show a bit more skin than average).

Or the team I played in my last tournie, with no clever name.
