They even gave Bizarro the backwards symbol.
looks like DC is going to continue the trend of having better scuplts than marvel.
Awesome!

You could paint the rookie in the usual Hal Jordan uniform for variety.

New abilities will most likely be the ones that haven't crossed over yet, However, I doubt we'll be seeing Inv make the jump.

Maybe it's too early to be saying this but is that a silver ring around Batgirl there? I didn't really think they could use the R/E/V for the new one. Making her a Unique would solve that problem.
OH MY GOD....this post just gave me and my wallet a heart attack....
I'm not sure about the GL figure, but the Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Penguin look great! Lets just hope the paint jobs are the same so I dont have to paint them everytime!
This is going to be one long-arse wait for those figs to come out now. But oh, what a sweet summer for fanboys.

Looks like we've got a unique in Batgirl and in Bizarro, plus anybody else notice that Wonder-babe's base is an arch-enemy? Any thoughts who that would be? Maybe Cheetah?
Expected Release: June 2002

Love the fig. Cool pose. But..... She's going to force me to wear that dang ring and pack her in cotton or something. That is one precarious contact point to the base.

So from what I can see:
Bizarro: No stats on his dial, no AE base
Wonder Woman: R/E/V with AE base.
Penguin: R/E/V, no AE base
Batgirl: Unique with Batman team ability
Green lantern: R/E/V, no AE base
Granted, Bizarro could end up with an AE base as we saw the same thing with the preview of Savage Hulk and he is an AE in XP.

DC is missing powers like Barrier, so they'll be crossing powers over in that vien. They have already said that they will not be making new powers. If they were they would say the powers have not been seen in the HC universe, not just the DC universe.
Now how is Batgirl attached to her base? I hope it's better than it looks because it seems like she's snap off faster than Blade.
I wonder who WW will be Arch-Enemy to. Cheetah?
Seeing Cobblepot in white is very alien to me. I have been raised on Batman Adventures for too long.

Should not be a problem since they are using the inverted base. No reason at all to be putting any torque on the fig, just the base.
Unfortunately, they’re just a wee bit late at making that June 2002 release date. Maybe they meant June 2003?
The figs look great, though. Why is it that DC’s paint jobs are just so much better than Marvels?
I’m also glad that this provides solid proof that the rumor about Hal Jordan send-away being the only character with the Green Lantern team ability is unfounded.

God I love that Penguin sculpt. Although that Jon Stewart looks like he's got corn rolls in his hair (I'm sure that's just screen pixelation. Heh.).
Wonder Woman's AE. Well Cheetah comes immediately to mind.
Adding Marvel HC powers to DC? Hmm. Whenever that happens we always get the "Well in that case so and so needs to be redone so they can get X power". Not so sure I like the idea. They need to decide on:
1. Keep them seperate.
2. Put them together AND reissue some older figures to incorporate them. (giving Cap CCE would be a pretty easy fix for him).
You can't just add 2 or 3 powers at a time and then not even give the powers to characters who definitely deserve them. Especially if the dial is off in the first place (IC Magneto, IC Captain America, IC Thanos, etc.).

Also, in regards to the "new abilites" quote. It could be some of Marvels going over, but also someone from GAMA said there would be NEW powers in expansions this year after Xplosion. Maybe we will see some in Cosmic Justice.

If you go to the HC website, the PAC now has all the powers, and they've been adding new powers to the genres which didn't have them since Clobbering Time.
2. Put them together AND reissue some older figures to incorporate them. (giving Cap CCE would be a pretty easy fix for him).

Again, this is a moot point since they added powers like Poison and HSS in CT and are increasing the amount of figures with Perplex in XP. They aren't going to go back and "fix" dials to include powers for figures that "should" have them. That's a long standing argument right there.

I know we'll see barrier, as that is a power not originally in DC and was first introduced with Sinestro. Other than that, don't expect new powers that aren't in Marvel already. What is in Marvel that DC doesn't have besides Barrier? Pulse Wave?

I honestly don't think it would be TOO hard for them to go back and fix a FEW of the characters. If they can make Spider-mans, Hulks, and Wolverines every expansion they can clear one or two spots in an expansion for some revamped older characters. And it's not like people want the ENTIRE IC set redone. It's always the same 4 or 5 figures.
General pumpup of Magneto (maybe a 100+ Unique)
Pumpup of Captain America (not hard especially if an Avengers expansion is in the works)
Quicksilver (HSS)
Thanos (Super Strength, Outwit, NO flying)
That's basically it. The Spider-man and Daredevil have already been addressed. Don't see why a few others couldn't follow suit. You don't need to go back and give every old Wolverine figure CCE. But it's annoying when a mediocre figure who SHOULD be good isn't. And it wouldn't take much to fix them.

Sweet Monkey Jesus!! This is gonna be such a great summer. Looks like all my summer paychecks are gonna go towards more plastic crack. My g/f is gonna incapacitate me after all this. Well, it's time to go donate some more plasma.
In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night, No Booster Shall Escape My Sight. If im caught bearing Visa's might, I'll hide myself behind a kite. (C'mon, what rhymes with might?)
John's base say's Green Lantern. Four range, maybe. But it looks like his point value is only 70. Am I seeing things? It should be more like 270 unless he's not GL team.
How is Batgirl standing? I mean how is her figure attached to the base. I think she will have the worst case of "Blade-Breakage-Syndrome" ever. I don't want my Us breaking that easily. I know that we won't have to turn her, but I don't like flimsy Uniques.
It also looks like Batgirl and Bizarro are uniques. Maybe we will get the good Batgirl as R/E/V and this dumb costume as the U (IMHO). I kinda want Bizarro to be Supes Enemy just so he can outwit people. But I also want him Supes Ally because he has X-Ray too.

I've been havin trouble posting here too. I had to re-submit my post 5 or 6 times before it actually worked. I copied what I typed so I wouldn't forget but everytime I submitted it, I was taken to a page that said It wasn't responding and everything was messed up. I finally got it in though after a while.
OOh I was right, WW has an AE.....Cheetah? Does she even have other enemies?!
I don't think it's accurate to say DC has better sculpts then Marvel per se, just each set is better then the one before it.
After Xplosion, we'll see scuplts better then Cosmic Justice.....which looks rockin

I'd love to see all the powers cross over, but as mentioned before, BCF and Invulnerability are unlikely (though maybe BCF if they do Nemesis, Brutale, Zauriel or Deathstroke).
The Batgirl figure reminds me of a Doc Ock mod a friend of mine made, where he's lifted off his base by one of his tentacles.
The wording of it made it seem unlikely that there would be any completely new powers, just ones not seen before in DC Heroclix.
Well, pretty much everything I had to say has been said.
So I'll just reiterate:
WW looks fantastic, as does the Pengin! What creative sculpts for Pengin and Batgirl. Dynamic!
But, does anyone else think Green Lantern looks like a lawn jockey?
Batman1983
03/19/2003, 15:24
Bizarro's base is blank, Penguin Should Not be Batman's AE(which hes not), Wonder Woman's AE (as everyone has said) is Cheetah(BCF?) or Circe(Prob Control?), Sinestro is every GLC AE so Jon doesn't need an AE base, Batgirl looks soooo cool but I hope we get Barbara REV,
Penguin is one of the best sculpts I've ever seen!!!
I hope to see both WW's AEs (but sadly we wont) Circe as a Unique & Cheetah as REV.
I Hope we get Ocean Master as Aquaman's AE (whether or not we get a new Aquaman).
REV Lex Luthor or a Unique Mr. Mxyzptlk will be Supes AE. Bizarro is just a brawler (no offence to anyone meant). However since his base isn't complete he could be supes AE (since doomsday was just a brawler, kinda). I think they showed the incomplete to keep us guessing.

Can anyone tell me the new Batgirl's story? I know that she is from "Land's End" and that she is mute, but what is the rest of the story?

6.I'll give up now without a fight.
7.I'll start to dress like Rainbow Bright
8.I'll make my boxers extra tight
9.I'll pull out Firelord and take a bite
And a Monkey Jesus might be sad but it might get alot of people back in church. Ya know, imagine a cuddly poop-flinging Jesus.

Ahh I get to enlighten you on another superhero. *laughs*
Batgirl is no longer mute. She doesn't have a great vocabulary, but she can put sentences together normally. She doesn't say much though and prefers to let her actions do the talking for her. Basically she was "taken" (we've yet to know the truth here) by Cain, the assassin who trained Batman, when she was a baby. She was trained to be a deadly assassin from day 1 and rather than learning how to speak, she learned how to "read" body movement. So basically she could know what an opponent would do before they even knew. When she turned 18, she was to sent to kill someone, and after she did it she was so abhorred by herself that turned on Cain and ran away, hating him for what he made her. Batman took her in and put her under the Oracle's care, and she's been training ever since. A chance encounter with a metahuman gave her the ability to understand speech, but she had to redevelop her ability to read movements... which she learned again from none other than Lady Shiva. She later defeated Lady Shiva (making her the world's greatest martial artist) and is now just doing your basic adventuring, learning to become a detective. Lately the issues have become a little boring for me, so I'll pick it up again when something interesting happens.
There you go... Batgirl, Cassandra Cain, in a nutshell.
darius_dax1
03/19/2003, 16:13
The Current Batgirl is from the No Man's Land crossover where Gotham was ravaged by an Earthquake. Batman had originally had the Huntress dress up in the new Batgirl costume (or something like that) and then took it away from her or she got disgusted with him and quit (I read it long ago and it is not in my recent memory). Anyway...The new Batgirl showed up and Batman chose her as the new Batgirl. She is not really mute, due to her training she forfeits speech for super-combat reflexes as a language kind of thing. She recieved the training from her father Cain, an assassin, who used her to complete a job. She recently gained the ability to speak and lost her combat reflexes but then gained back most of the reflexes and re-lost most of the speech. She usually communicates in very short 91 or 2 word) sentences.

Pre-crisis Bizarro had a square planet (called Bizarro World) where Bizarro duplicates of the Superman cast as well as Green Lantern, Flash, Batman, and Wonder Woman existed.
Bizarro was still created at the time by using a 'CLONE RAY' and the clone was corrupt.

Definetely looks good.
As for those new powers? The easy answers are the GL Corp ability and the Legion team ability.1Wouldn't be supruised to see the Kon-El SUpeboy and Cassie Sandsmrk Wonder Girl in the set though, since I think te new Titans comic is starting around June, and I think it's a safe bet we'll be getting at least three Legion founders (Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Live Wire)

First off...I'm getting a case. I was on the fence about it...but WOW. <<decided I'm not gonna get Indy clix...and spend my money on CJ>>
As for the AE to Wonder Woman, I'm thinking the first post crisis verison of Cheetah would top my list. <<hey...Barbara vs. Diana...one of the classics>>
Second Ae release, has to be Circe, followed by Silver Swan. <<maybe Ares' children to boot...but those would be fairly expensive>>
Also, I'm thinking WW's mother, Hippolyta in a future set with a AE of Dark Angel. :)

It's about time this set came out. This is going to jump DC way ahead of where it is now. I can't wait to see Superman and Bizarro square off. Or team the rest of Batman allies with Batgirl. It'll make a dangerous team that much more dangerous. DC rules!!!!!!!!

...
/me is stunned
So...cool... still...salivating... Now I can put the Penguin with his fine feathered finks (lackeys) and recreate the 60's TV show! Waaak wak wak wak wak!!!
And as for Bizarro, in the Silver Age he was created by a clone ray, which he got a hold of and used to create Bizarro dupes of Lois, Jimmy, and pretty much the whole world. His planet was called Htrae, and they did some funny stories about the goofiness that went on there. I think they did away with it in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Then there have been at least two Bizarros since the Crisis. The first one was like he was on the animated series, where he thought he was Superman and tried to do good. That one disintegrated eventually, but during the Emperor Joker storyline, Joker made another one, which we still have today. He's the most messed-up one yet, since he always says the opposite of what he means. Superman feels sorry for him and actually rescued him from General Zod, who had captured him to use as his personal punching bag. Anyway, he's not a true villain since he's not really malicious, so I doubt he'll be Supes' AE, especially if we end up with Blueperman in this set.
Jon L. said that there are no plans to introduce 100% new abilities at this time, so don't expect truely new abilities until atleast next year. These will all be Marvel abilities crossing over.
I don't expect to see Invulnerability, BCF, or steath making their way over. (Reason for Stealth is that Batman team has it as a team ability, much like the skrulls have shape shift as a team ability and thus Marvel does not have that ability yet)
I see Flurry, Running Shot, Pulse Wave, Telekinesis, Defend, Regen, Enhancement and Probability control all coming over. If you look at Clobberin' Time you'll see that 2 abilities per space made their way over.
Oh yea, and I love the figures too! I might put a Penquin on a team just to show off his dapper outfit and littl' pengins (how cool is an animal that always wears a tux?!)
Maybe they'll make a penguin generic for about 3 pts. Then I can mod him into Squirrel.

Another thing about Bizarro, the recent Ending Battle storyline (and some others) have suggested that Bizarro is actually more powerful than Superman, but his limited intellect actually limits his powers to a degree. Taking that into account, Bizarro should be pretty buff. He certainly looks cool. These sculpts are amazing. I can't wait to get a Penguin! He's no where near my favorite Bat-Baddie, but he looks sweet. Wonder Woman may be in a class by herself.

Hopefully, they'll release as many figures in Cosmic Justice as they did with Hypertime as Marvel's already had 2 expansions already (and possibly 2 more to be released in 2003 th' way things're goin').
Th' two guys who posted th' Batgirl origin did a great job, except Cassandra was much younger than 18 when she killed for Cain; I think she was 10 or so! I think she's barely 18 in th' current Batgirl series right now as it is; and she's romancin' th' current Superboy Kon-El so havin' a Kon figure'd be cool in CJ too...
Th' first person to don this current Batgirl costume was th' Huntress! So they could've done an R/E/V for this particular figure [Hi-Powered Rookie for Helena, Mid-Powered Exp. Cassandra for when she first learned to communicate via th' telepathic lad, and an uber-powered Vet version for how she is now; but I'm glad they decided to make her a Unique. I just hope she's buff, and sportin' CCE 'round that widdle dial!
Lastly, I'm hoping that Wonder Woman's arch enemy is Circe; and that Circe is a Unique with a nice mix of powers 'round th' dial ala Dr. Strange mixed with Enchantress and a dash of White Queen. Furthermore, she should sport th' nasty Mystic Team Ability! But due to th' release of Sinestro, I'm thinkin' it'll be th' Cheetah (to appeal to a mass audience outside of comics basically *bleah*) so people can make their SuperFriends' Legion of Doom team with Riddler, Solomon Grundy, Black Manta, etc... *sigh*
These sculpts are definitely great, and yes DC has fantastic sculpts overall, but there were quite a few Marvel Clobberin' Time sculpts that were DC HT quality [XPlosions has quite a few too, so it seems].

1. Thanks for the pics. An unexpected very pleasant surprise.
2. I love those little peguins with the Peguin. That detail is just too cool.
3. Wonder Woman's AE is probably Circe considering the AE base is GREEN , which is not a color in WW's costume or Cheetah's, but is the major color of Circe. Since Mr. Fantastic and Thor ended up with AE bases that match their AE's costumes, this makes some sense. But is Wonder Woman's true AE Mr. Fantastic? Mad that she went off to Latvaria with Victor Von Doom and left poor Reed Richards behind?
4. After Thor/Enchantress, Fantastic/Doom, and Wonder Woman/Circe, is there any shade of Green left for Green Lantern to have an AE? Kyle and Effigy might make a nice AE pair.
5. Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Bizarro, Peguin all look great. John Stewart is OK, but to me he looks too much like Levar Burton from Star Trek Next Generation.
6. I think the new powers will be coming from Marvel and the new Team Abilities.

1. More powers from the Marvel set are coming over to the DC set. Cool.
2. These five models are some of the best sculpts yet. Penguin, Wonder Woman and Batgirl, in particular, are better sculpts than have been seen in any Heroclix set yet, IMHO.
3. 13 weeks away means that if I can put aside $30 Cdn a week ($20 US) I can reasonably expect to be able to build a full set without blowing the budget.
4. Maybe this'll get some interest going in DC again. Local participation in DC has been spotty at best for the last few weeks.
5. I called it -- I said that WizKids would release Cosmic Justice info at GAMA, and they did. You may now kiss my feet.

Okay, the first Xplosion preview was on Jan. 29th which was a good 8 weeks before the release date. Ahh just looked through the first few issues of Batgirl again. You're right, the video shows a young girl around 10 who killed him. And she's 17 when she starts out as Batgirl. Give her a year before she faced with Lady Shiva, so that makes her 18 or 19 as of the latest issue. Which reminds me, I just skimmed through today's release of Batgirl. Still not happy with the way things are going. I guess they want to give her a softer side, but I loved how they started out with the character. A pure 17-year old killing machine. Now she talks to Spoiler about kissing boys and Batman still gives her no room to think on her own. I guess it's the protective father-daughter type relationship they have forming, but if they continue the way things are going, Batgirl is just going to end up as teenager #312 in the DC universe who constantly thinks about dating while fighting crime, and she'll just fade into the blur of the rest of Young Justice.

Actually she was more like 5 when she was sent to kill...Cain regrets sending her when she was "too young"..she joined the team as a 15 year old or so...

Thumbs up on the sculpts, very happy to see Wonder Woman. Bizarro and Penguin look great, though he's begging for repainted tux. I sort of expected the painted John Stewart which sort of follows the mail in LE's, like Superman and Wolverine being different painted versions of set figures. Big thumbs down on the Batgirl, major let down since I'd heard she was in the set and assumed it would be an original one. Sorry Cassandra fans, but I think she's got 1 or 2 years left at best before comic oblivion comes calling, so I really wasn't interested in a Cassandra Clix. At least its a unique and there's only one. If this sounds harsh, I can tell you I've got a bunch of "new, going to be around forever" characters on OP cards, its kind of funny since many are no longer with us.

I'm curious as to why you think that? What are your reasons? Aside from what daedalus25 said (which I agree with...), do you have other reasons to back your statement?
I think she's one of the current/top hot chars in the DCU and hope to see her stick around indefinitely. BUT I too would hate to see her go down the Spolier road. It just doesn't suit her, her character, her skills, her relationship with Bats (which I LOVE), etc. If she does go ga-ga and stay there then I agree she'll disappear over the next few years (which would break my heart).

Well, it's just my opinion, which going into detail about would probably just offend fans. Characters come and go, they get launched, a few catch on, most fall by the wayside. (I'd mention some examples, but that would probably offend someone also LOL, anyway, we've all seen characters come and go) In my opinion this character just doesn't have it and I wish gaming companies, be it WK or Overpower, would leave new characters out of the mix until they've got some time under their belt.
I would characterize Stewart differently, he's been around in name and as a character since the 80's and I think and it seems clear that DC is going to go with him in the future as the main Lantern. I know people kid about the cartoon, but you really can't get more mainstreamed than cartoons and toys.
edited: wait, here's a good one The Comet, or Captain Comet - I forget, he came out when Haley's Comet passed last time. He didn't last very long, maybe they'll bring him back when it comes through again. If there's any Comet fans out there I'm sorry. Or how about "Reagan's Raiders", that was a good one, a 60 year old man in spandex with a Rambo bandanna and heavy machinge gun (sheesh) Or how about Hardware, he was a neat guy, he may have later inspired Steel, but he didn't make it himself. Too bad he didn't have a white sidekick, Homee Depot would have been a killer name. Hopefully these examples are so far back no one is offended. Probably not though, I'll most likely get a "Comet was cool man" PM tomorrow.

Well for once I didn't get time to go through everyone's posts so I will keep it brief. I personnally like the sculpts for Wonder Woman and Bizarro Superman (if thats who it is). I never really enjoyed the John Stewart Green Lantern so I will just say that and nothing more. The prize of the the 4 pieces shown has got to be The Penguin, although I never liked him one bit in the comics. This figs design is absolutely perfect in ever shape and form. Great detail, great shapes and great additions with the penguins on the base. Lots of applause goes out to the creator of this one My GOD great job. The rest look really good but I am still hoping for a good version of the real Superman.

I'm actually a little disappointed that the MArvel line hasn't focused very much on the current portrayal of characters or their newer characters themselves. With Infinity Challenge only having Jim Lee styled X-Men, and the lack of any modern Marvel figures, I think Marvel's falling behind.
What I liked in DC was that they had pretty much the most recent version of the character for the figure, be it Catwoman in her Darwyn Cooke outfit, or the fact they even included such a recent enemy as the Key. I think DC is probably making the push for the most recent comic versions, Marvel really hasn't.
Even though we're getting an X-Treme X-Men version of Storm, Gambit is still in the Jim Lee duds, no new Bald Hulk either. Marvel is slowly getting better with the inclusion of the Ultimate Green Goblin and X-Treme X-Men style Psylocke, but I want a walking Professor Xavier, or a Xorn, and some X-StatiX for chist's sake!
Marvel needs to quit falling back on the old mid nineties styles and move on!

IMHO, the Marvel landscape is so littered and polluted with Mutants everywhere, they're trying to cram it all in. Really, they should try to broaden their horizons, there are so many Silver Age gems and little tidbitty characters in Marvel Universe they could've brought back. He||, DC got Black Manta and he's so obscure in the DC Universe! I have a pal who pretty much owns all volumes of the Marvel Handbook (save for one, I think) and there are so many NON-muties in there! Cmon Marvel, make us proud!

Batgirl might have Prob Control.... She can read opponents moves. A bat teamer with prob control goody goody now I can replace E Black Cat when I play DC only.
Backwards Bizarro would absolutely rock!!
I've been thinking & if we don't get BCF in this set then we'll probably get Circe(prob Control & Perplex) for Wonder Woman's AE. A lot has to do with whether or not we get Zatana in this set (or Mr. Mxyzptlk or Batgirl w/ prob control).
I hope Penguin is as useful in Heroclix as his OverPower card was. three 6's & great Specials made him a favorite of mine.
I hope (like R Steel w/supes team) we get a cheaper GLC or they won't be as useful in 200 point games if they all cost over 85 at the R level.

The problem with that is that most people (myself included) don't think the current stuff (especially the mutant titles) is very good. When people think X-Men they think the 90's Jim Lee run. That's what the cartoon was loosely based off of. The Blue and Gold team scenario (part of the reason they should have done Jubilee instead of Boom Boom).
The new stuff is all lame and angsty with UGLY art. New X-Men is getting uglier and more ridiculous by the issue. Prof. X walking, talking about abandoning the school, Cyclops and White Queen having a psychic affair, etc. All these new writers are so intent on leaving their "mark" that they've all but ignored some 30+ years of continuity. Professor X's "evil twin sister" anyone? X-treme LOOKS cool but makes virtually no sense in continuity with the rest of the books. Beast is beaten nearly to death but is just fine in New X-Men. Bishop and Sage running around pretending to be cops and busting up the X-Mansion, etc. It's ludicrous. And if we WERE doing current figs, Gambit would be powerless.
While some of the new stuff IS good (Exiles, Deadpool/Agent X, Taskmaster mini-series which the new clix IS based on) no one's going to get behind a clix based off of characters like X-Statix. The only current stuff that MIGHT sell are clix based of the Ultimate series. But like someone already said, what's the point. With the exception of a few characters most of them will be the same stat and powerwise. Just with different sculpts.
As silly as it is, maybe some of the Marvel Manga titles might make better clix. At least it's a different approach to many characters. I wouldn't mind seeing a child ninja Spider-man. Or maybe the manga child Captain Mar-vell. Their version of the Fantastic Four would be interesting as well considering that their powers need suits. Or the Black Panther that's actually a werewolf type character. Female Dr. Doom?
But as it stands I'd much rather see the clix as they are now than updated current Marvel clix. At least where the mutant books are concerned.

Jim Lee's run is definitly the most recognizable, but I'm a big Byrne fan. Hes continuity based stuff is good & X-treme is supposed to be continuity free. If you read it like that then its a fun title. GM (you-know-who) is going to leave such a mess for writters to come that Marvel is going to nead a Crisis esque cross over soon lest they loose all the faithful. What do they think the continuity lovers are all older than 50 & don't buy comics anymore? I'm nineteen & I've got a great pre-crisis knowledge of DC. Its easier to figure things out post crissis, but many times I find myself refering to characters the way they were pre-crissis.

"GM" has already lost a lot of people. He's gained a lot of people too but the people he's got aren't long-term comic fans. Once he goes, they leave for the next goofy, independent, depression-fest.
Byrne's X-Men was good too. But all the old X-Men are better than this current stuff. I'd rather see uniques of the All New, All Different X-Men (Giant Size X-Men 1) over all these new characters. And I thought the Morlocks were ugly. Not to mention 90% of the characters are totally useless. Stacy X? I wonder who's gonna make a mod of her from a Con Artist?
*sigh* I ask you. What's wrong with superheroes? Everyone wants to take superheroes and make them anti-heroes. What ever happened to fighting supervillians. Everyone's too busy writing comic characters who beat their wives and have affairs. I don't need to read about what Gambit thinks about global warming and junk like that. It's cool writers have their opinions on public issues but I don't need them subconsciously shoving it at me in every comic I read. "GM" is a posterboy for that kind of writing. Not to mention my problems with a "WE".

What do you think would be more desireable by DC, JLA and Comic lovers around the world? The John Stewart (Green Lantern) figurine as seen in the Cosmic Justice first post thread OR, Kyle Rayner (Green Lantern) in a fully loaded mech, some futuristic weapon of mass destruction, or even a really really massive gun attached to his torso getting ready to blow away some ULTIMATE enemy. I do see why people would like John Stewart, he has the most likeness to the original power house Green Lantern (Hal Jordan).
But isn't it POWER OF IMAGINATION? Wow I loved the attack of an army of beavers, or a giant MECH to defeat the Titans. This is Kyle Rayner to the max. DC took so much time bringing this character FULL CIRCLE and he was slowly becoming my favorite JLA'er when poof he's gone. With the resurgence of John Stewart, I am left with the generic: FIST of DOOM, POWERFUL FORCEFIELDS and the old ANVIL of DOOM. I understand how the popularity of the cartoon series has sparked alot of interest in the John Stewart's Green Lantern and I also love the show. However, I believe being a fan of all the Lanterns Kyle Rayner was and still is in my opinion what the Green Lantern should be.
Now a word about Hal Jordan. I have always been fond of Cosmic Beings in any Universe and I love his transformation into the Spectre (alot of diehard DC fans I know liked the old Spectre alot more though). I was totally convinced when Hal showed up as the Spectre that the Power level was equal and he did have what it took to be that outside Cosmic influence. I think the responsibilty to be a Green Lantern is more prevalent in Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and that Kyle lacks somewhat that mentality. He plays more on his IMAGINATION when using his powers and less on just getting the job done no matter how obvious or simple the solution may be.
For this reason Kyle will always be my favorite GL, he has fun using his powers, entertains and comes up with some crazy ways to solve obscure problems. I enjoy both comic book worlds and read titles from each, albeit not on a very regular basis. There are lots of you out there that know alot more than me about DC and Marvel so I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here. So what do you think all, Kyle stays or is Kyle gone for good?
Kaitouace
03/20/2003, 03:28
Well I'm not nearly a DC expert but I know plenty of people.
People outright HATED Kyle at first. Like he took everything good about the Green Lantern and threw it down the toilet. Kind of like Guy Gardner without that "cool" factor. But over the years people have begun to accept him and like him quite a lot.
I personally think all the Lanterns need to be represented in HC. And I don't think that just because they didn't make it this time doesn't mean that they won't show up later. The thing with Jon Stewart is that he has a lot of backing of the Hal Jordan fans. Because a lot of people got fed up with Hal Jordan after they took him and screwed him up in almost every way possible (Zero Hour, etc.). People see John Stewart as the way Hal Jordan should have stayed. So he gets a lot of support. And you've got the kids as well with the cartoon. And it doesn't hurt that he's black either. As far as getting recognition.
I like Alan Scott okay but he should be only a Unique like the current Unique Flash. They should give clix to other members of the Corps as well. At least Kilowag and Gardner would be cool too.
I'm thinking that since the GL Corps ability is going to be so expensive if it's used that the majority of GL's that come out will be Uniques anyway. I can almost assure you that Alan will be one. Most likely the same for Hal if they use him. I'd like a GL Sinestro too. And Jon gets the R/E/V since he's the "current" GL and he hasn't really had that many insane changes like Hal or Guy. Easier to make. But by the third DC expansion I think we'll see a Kyle R/E/V. Maybe a Kyle Unique with one of his mech creations or something provided they don't give us an Alan Scott Unique.
As a comic fan? I like Jon better but I think they probably should have made Kyle the R/E/V. Especially since they have the sendaway Jon already. Save him for the next expansion. But I can see why they did it. I'm not too worried because I know we'll get a Kyle fairly soon. Most likely before an Alan or even a Hal. We just have to wait one expansion I guess. And we don't REALLY know the DC list. Maybe Kyle's in there too as an R/E/V or as a "Power of Imagination" unique.

I really hope you're right with this! Being a Batgirl fan from the beginning, that comic was the very first one in my hand whenever I saw a new one on display. I loved everything about the character. Even the issue with her and Superboy had me smiling when she bopped him on the head and said "Focus!" He couldn't figure out how she managed to get through his TK forcefield. I just see Spoiler and the Young Justice crew (who it seems they are trying to push her towards) as bad influences for someone who should be standing up there with the big leagues. Even the Titans would be a better home for her, in my opinion. Ah well... I'll be patient with it, and I will continue to hope that her character is given new life before it fades away.

Normally I would think that would never happen, given that it would require different sculpts in the REV's which has never happened before. But given how long it's taken to make this set, they've sure had the time to do something like this. And this would make a lot more sense for them to do, considering the green lanterns have the same powers, and it's only their own willpower and imagination that determines to what level they can use those powers. So rather than having an REV John Stewart and REV Kyle Rayner running around with pretty much identical dials, making one an E and one a V might be a pretty smart plan.
But then again, maybe they'll arrange the powers differently on the dials. Kyle will more into Incapacitation and Barrier on the first click while John will have Defend and Ranged Combat Expert (for example). Then there'd be a reason to have more than one, other than the simple reason of just playing your favorite GL. I suppose we'll know soon enough (though I can hardly wait 3 more months!)

Based on the figures we see here Cosmic Justice looks very promising.
But I'm extremely grateful that Xplosion is coming out next week - it'll help keep us busy (and sane) until Cosmic Justice comes out in June.
I was wondering when the Northeast part of the country would get a chance to buy boosters for an upcoming release of Heroclix...looks like I have my answer. We should be able to buy Cosmic Justice boosters at Wizard World East (Philly) on Friday 5/30/2003 (this is not fact mind you, but based on past history, I'm hoping)!

The rest look really good but I am still hoping for a good version of the real Superman.

wait till we get a 0 range R superboy on the Supes team for like 40 points. He'll be invaluable on wild card teams, but you know 0 range w/ supes team. Naw he'll have at least a 2 range. We'll see superboy &/or supergirl in this set. Super boy is going to have other teams so I think only his R is supes (E none, V titans). they could combine pre & post crisis superboys, but then the LoSH R would cost more than the V post crisis (titans?)superboy. then again we might get a U precrisis superboy (as the superman U for this set) & the post crisis for REV. this would give us our powerful (leadership-less) superman w/ a LoSH wild card & some cheap Supes team member(s) in R superboy & probably all versions of Supergirl (if we get her).

Kyle Rayner to the max. DC took so much time bringing this character FULL CIRCLE and he was slowly becoming my favorite JLA'er when poof he's gone. However, I believe being a fan of all the Lanterns Kyle Rayner was and still is in my opinion what the Green Lantern should be.
Kyle has potential but their just starting to tap it. Being a Green Lantern was about something MORE than just willpower and ring tricks. It was an intergalactic brotherhood. With the rebuilding of Oa and the Guardians they are starting to get back to that.
Having reread my early spectres I don't think Hal was ever a decent choice for that job. Spirit of VENGENCE. The spirits jobis to avenge the dead and such and its supposed to be attached to an angry soul. Wish I could remember more details but rereading them made think how stupid a decision this was.
I think the responsibilty to be a Green Lantern is more prevalent in Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and that Kyle lacks somewhat that mentality. He plays more on his IMAGINATION when using his powers and less on just getting the job done no matter how obvious or simple the solution may be.
I read the introduction to the Lonely Place of Dying TP and they brought up a good point. the 2nd Robin was hated because he was seen as a usurper for Grayson. When they brought in Tim drake they had Grayson personaly vouch for him making him a hand picked successor.
looking back the same thing happened with Kyle. he is what we were left with after they destroyed a childhood hero turning him into everything he ever hated. as such Kyle will always be the usurper. hal has had replacements in the past (john. Guy) but the WAY they did this was the biggest problem.
that and in my opinion they NEVER had a decent writer who knew what he was talking about. GL has such a rich history and most often it was discarded or contradicted.
For this reason Kyle will always be my favorite GL, he has fun using his powers, entertains and comes up with some crazy ways to solve obscure problems. I enjoy both comic book worlds and read titles from each, albeit not on a very regular basis. Captain Comet was cool... well, he was so-so, but his history was somewhat interesting. He was a 1950s character, like Martian Manhunter, who came after the Golden Age but before the Silver Age. He was revived due to Halley's comet's popularity as you say, and it was interesting to have him as a recurring hero to fight the Secret Society of Super-Villains. And he was brought back again as part of L.E.G.I.O.N. (though Lobo called him Captain Vomit), since the writers weren't able to use their first choice, Adam Strange, who would make a great Heroclix taxi (to bring this back ontopic :) )

Actually, that's what I liked about Marvel and disliked about DC. I have no interest in the new Marvel junk, and Catwoman hasn't worn her new costume long enough to deserve an REV. The purple catwoman should've been the REV, with the brand new Catwoman as the unique, imho.
And, of course, the Key is not a recent enemy, though his current look is new.

I think the problem with Batman & Superman's leadership isn't their having it. Good arguments can be made for both of them having it. It's a placement issue.
If Batman started with outwit, then had a couple of clicks of leadership there wouldn't be nearly as much complaining. And if Superman had leadership for the start of his dial rather than his entire dial it would still be somewhat redundant but not as debilitating.
And I'm already stashing away $$$ for my case. These figures look so sweet. Although my daughter has already made me promise that if we get a Batgirl (and there isn't a Barbara Gordon Batgirl in the set) we'll repaint it and give her red hair.

1). impervious is better than invulnerability.
2). wizkids will probaly only release 1 expansion per quarter, or every 3 months, max.
3). wizkids could 'update' figures that weren't quite up to par by releasing sets of revised figures. same molds just diferent stats and costs on the base. i think they'd have to wait until most of the dust had settled due to all the releases. but say when the first sets have all come out (i mean it will eventually happen, their are only so many characters). have a set of just updated figures which could still come in random boosters.
and, is it just me or is batgirl the first female clix that's not top heavy, if you know what i mean... nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, say no more...

Looking forward to this expansion so that it can fill in the holes of some of my DC teams.
I'm betting we will see Kyle ... just not in this set. They'll save a few big names for the DC set after Cosmic Justice (I'm guessing we won't see Martian Manhunter in this set either).
Hal Jordan as the Spectre just tells me that the writers didn't know what the heck to do with him. I hope we get a GL Hal (probably as a unique) and if the spectre does get done, its the previous host (Corrigan? I forget.).
I'm surprised there has been a bunch of anti-Grant Morrison folks out there. I also liked the Byrne as well as the Jim Lee years on X-men. I had to drop the book after the whole Onslaught debacle. Just seemed so cliche for his identity to be Xavier .... I agree the art has been truly horrific at times, but I thought I heard they were bringing on a new artist. I liked the E is for Extinction storyline, the pyschic affair between Scott and Emma, the stepford cuckoos, etc. Definately a different flavor, but it doesn't feel like old x-men stories that have simply been rehashed (ie. Future Past) as the previous years seemed. I would like to see the return of Magneto though...

There's something else that folks need to be aware of... the GL power is tremendously useful, and once you put a Green Lantern on your team --- any Green Lantern --- all your wild cards get that team ability, too. Imagine, a rookie Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, or even a Doombot (from mixed games) will be able to capitalize on the GL team ability. Talk about a wake-up call to point crunchers everywhere!!!
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD! I think I just wet myself.......I'm more happy they a gaggle of school girls at an NSYNC Cheese Palace!

For the person who asked about Squirrel Girl:
She appeared in a Marvel Annual (I think one of the Iron Man ones). She can jump and climb like a squirrel, talk to squirrels, and she has huge buck teeth that she can gnaw things with. She idolizes Iron Man and wants to be an Avenger. It was supposed to be a funny story but was really kind of pathetic. One of Marvel's darkest hours.

DC is missing powers like Barrier, so they'll be crossing powers over in that vien. They have already said that they will not be making new powers. If they were they would say the powers have not been seen in the HC universe, not just the DC universe.
They're also technically missing a write-up on Telekinesis, one of Sinestro's powers. Barrier and TK are both quite likely for the GLs.
I wonder who WW will be Arch-Enemy to. Cheetah?
Her or Circe.
Seeing Cobblepot in white is very alien to me. I have been raised on Batman Adventures for too long.
Penguin "reformed" in the comics (and in the late Batman cartoon run), and took to wearing white tuxes. He currently straddles the line between a supporting character and a villain, as he's smart enough and sane enough to do a good job of hiding his illegal activities behind a veneer of legitimacy as a night club owner. Bats is perfectly aware that Penguin's not on the up-and-up, but hasn't been able to pin anything significant on him since No Man's Land, when Cobblepot was arguably a necessary evil.

You do realize what this means, don't you? EVIL PENGUINS as generics!!! :D Well, they can at least be modded on to another base or someting.....
Better yet, Wrong Trousers clix.

The reaction was more of a mix, IMO. I think the greater problem wasn't Kyle, but the creative team behind him. Following a rushed and amateurish effort to get rid of Hal, Kyle came along as a rather cynical and ham-fisted attempt to try to snag the Gen-X market. After Kyle got more play in the hands of good writers (most notably Mark Waid in Underworld Unleashed and again in JLA, and Judd Winick in the GL book itself), he evolved past cliche. Originally, however, he wasn't even remotely consistent even in his own book - when his gf died, for instance, the only times he really thought about her were when he was trying to kill her murderer. A few issues after her death, he had a one-night stand with an alien; not once did her name appear in the comic.
I wouldn't say ALL of them - Mogo might be a bit difficult. OTOH, I think there's room for Kyle, John, and Guy, with Hal and Alan as uniques.

Well maybe not ALL the Lanterns but I would like to see Kilowag (interesting mix of long distance and up close bruiser) and a regular sized and preferably GL Sinestro (well we might be getting the regular sized part already). And I had forgotten about Jade. If they want to get current they could always use her. That makes about 5 clix with the GL Corp ability. Assuming they use the GL Sinestro. Alan Scott should have the JSA ability. But so should Jay Garrick. :P
Well I guess Guy would have GL for one or two versions as well. Make it 6.
Mogo? Would make an interesting big fig. Well.....not big enough. Heh.
For being mainly a Marvel fan, this set has me extremely excited. Green Lanterns!!! YEAH!!
What's up with Batgirl, she looks cool, but I bet she come out of the box broke on several occasion.

I heard that it will be Ares. I just hope that the guy that said it is wrong because I would rather have Cheetah or Circe. That guy is not a reliable source anyway and I am still waiting and hoping for Cheetah or Circe. There's a part of me that wants Cheetah and another part that would like to see Circe as the arch-enemy. I would like to see Ares too, just not in this set...

I for one hope there are Kyle Raynar and Hal Jordan Uniques/R-E-Vs somewhere along the line, along with Jade as well. Mmm... Jade... *coughs* Sorry.
I mean, I like GLs and everything, but the whole 'current' feel of DC as someone else mentioned, really irritates me. The Catwoman thing (her new outfit is ugly as sin) and now John Stewart... bleh. Give me my old-skool Marvel shiz. (and no exceptions on the Ult. Green Goblin. GIMME OLD SKOOL GOBS!)

First off, LURVE the sculpts. but - am I the only person that's just a little disappointed that the Unique Batgirl isn't Barbara? We've seen a retro-Flash, why not a retro-Batgirl? Ho hum. I just hope we get another Unique Cop (Bullock or Montoya - or #### in Bludhaven PD get-up)

I've just discovered I can't write Mr. Grayson's first name without it being censored. I'm sorry, but that's just daft. Will we be stopped from talking about Nightcrawler played by Alan C#mming?
