Weclome newcomers to the tourney.
By the way, thread 8 is dead. Wish it farewell !
It lasted well, and has now died.

HEROCLIX 379 FIGURE - 64 TEAM TOURNAMENT
ROUND ONE - MATCH 30 OF 32 - TOURNAMENT MATCH 30 OF 63

UNIVERSAL DEITYS (333 pts)

(U) THANOS_________185 pts
(R) SANDMAN________61 pts
(V) DR STRANGE_____87 pts

-VS-

ARCANE INJUSTICE LEAGUE (333 pts)

(V) ARCANE_________________96 pts
(E) WEATHER WIZARD_______42 pts
(E) BLACK MANTA___________34 pts
(E) JOKER___________________69 pts
(E) GORILLA GRODD_________76 pts
(V) THUG____________________16 pts

Match 30.
Amazing.

There were two Injustice League teams in the tournament.
Braniac's Injustice League fell at the first hurdle, being torn apart by the She-Hulk and her Fantastic Four. Yes in the 13th match of the tournament, the She-Hulk defeated Branaic IL and interestingly became the first team to score a victory without losing a single figure. Arcane will be looking for better success himself here though.

Another fascinating fact for all you stats fans is this. Thus far, 32 uniques have fought in the torunament. Boy thats a lot. 18 of them are in teams that have progressed to round two. 14 have been defeated, (sorry Nightcrawler). Will Thanos make 19 though or 15 out?

Doom scares the sh@t out of me. And then I see Thanos.
Invulnerable.
Gold.
Monster.
Purple.
Brick Wall.

The Invulnerable Sandman can really tie them up. Dr Strange is a real handful. Phasing, Inacapacitate, Ranged defence, ranged expert, enhance, telekenesis, barier, support, probability control, pulse wave, flight. He has more tricks than David Blaine. And his levitation doesn't need wires.

Well, I had better talk about Arcane hadn't I? Well they have a job to do here, but it ain't impossible. It really isn't. Hard yes. Impossible no. Nearly impossible yes. I mean no. I don't know what I know. I don't want to sway any voting. I have not watches the fight yet as I write this, but Thanos IS scary. Arcane is impervious though and there are plenty of ways to get to Thanos. Arcane is impervious and his team has a heady mix of double perplex, Outwit, Force Blast, Mind Control, Super Strength, Incapacitate, double-poison, Psychic blast of course. It's all good stuff against the likes of Thanos. It all hinges on the map, if they can apply these abilities and how quickly Thanos and Strange rip them to pieces. I am thoroughly looking forward to this fight. Plus it get's me to number thirty!!!!

Take your pick.

Oh the map is the massive mansion.
Advantage Arcane. Arcane can swim.
But they have Thanos.
Oh shut up Jason - he is only one man.
Yes - youre right. "I'm gonna take hold of the IL and bust him up".
Your going down Thanos. I am gonna get rid of my scary Demons. You are going down.
NO!
Must be impartial.
OK
Lets get it on - Play the best for both teams Jason.
But where the hell do you start on this map?
Hmmm.....
Impartial please.
OK.
Purple.......

I knew you could do it.

On this one I got to go with Thanos. The Arcane team doesn't have enough vets and with a couple of hits their chances die.

Ok, who here can actually even HURT Thanos? Thanos wipes the floor with everyone, and in the process, gets a good shot at MVP of the tourney. I don't think Thanos will make it past the second round, but he gets a near-bye in this round. Go Mad Titan!

Black Manta, Weather Wizard, and Joker are all really sad figures. V Arcane and E Grodd are the only 10 attack value figures on the team and either of them needs to be Perplexed just to do a click to Thanos. Gotta watch out for that V Thug though or he could roll a buncha criticals on Thanos. If Thanos is smart he'll take out the Thug first because he's dangerous and then Grodd for the possible Mind Control and then Joker for the Perplex. Heck, I think Thanos can take out this whole team by himself as long as he doesn't shoot himself in the foot more than once. V Strange and Sandy just make it a cake walk.

Thanos' team to win easily.

I'm not really sure if the last thread died. The site has just been really, really slow today when you're trying to make posts. It's probably a problem with too heavy a load on the server.

After reviewing the #'s (a good-if-not-always-perfect tactic), I've gotta go with Thanos. Sure, there's only three of them on the team, but Thanos can wipe Arcane off his Inpervious in one good shot if allowed to, and the only outwit Arcane's got on his side is at the very end of Grodd's dial (and Grodd's Psychic Blast is one click long as well).

Sign me up for the Mad Titan, his private physician and his, um, Sandbox.

Thanos and Co. Grodd's MindControl is the only possible threat I can see here; and it's not a very big one.

Alright, looks like everyone so far thinks Thanos is going to walk away with this one. Will he? Let's take a look.

The purple meanie has a 10 range, outdistancing all of his opponents. Starts with an 18 defense, which means most of his opponents need a 9 or better to even hit him. And when they do he's got 5 clicks of invulnerability for them to get through. And if they should happen to get through, or he pushes (which with only 3 figures on the team seems likely) his attack goes up! And let's talk about that attack of his - on his last click of life (where he regenerates!) he only needs a 7 to hit the best defense Arcane's team has. For most of his dial he just needs to not critically miss to hit people. Then we've got Thanos's support system - Dr. Strange. RCE to start, Phasing to taxi him through the mansion, and don't forget Enhancement, so that Thanos is popping out 4-5 damage a shot. Incapacitate, Support, Barrier, even Probability Control. And a 10 range just like Thanos. But at least one good point for Arcane's team - Strange is the only opponent without damage reducing powers. Unlike Sandman, who is going to drive Arcane's team insane. Even if he just walks over on his own instead of being taxied, once Sandman gets to the IL they are in dire trouble. Plasticity so only Arcane can run away from him easily. Invulnerability, which we already mentioned isn't good for the IL. Decent damage. Park him next to anyone but Arcane, lock 'em up and just wait for Sandman to finish 'em off. They can't hurt him, they almost can't break away and they can't shoot at anyone else. Really, the lack of figures and the requisite pushing that leads to is the only weakness I see on this team against these foes.

So, after all of that, what does Arcane's team have to say for itself? Well, we start with Arcane. 8 range & 10 attack. Not bad, but that 2 damage means he's only going to be able to hurt Dr. Strange with it. He does have a couple of clicks of Psychic Blast, which will help on that front, assuming he doesn't get knocked right past it. He's also got Impervious, and as we saw in the last match Impervious can be a very important power. We've got Grodd, the mental monkey next. With that one click of Mind Control he does have a chance to do something nasty to Thanos's team, like take over Thanos and have him blast Strange or Sandman. But if he does MC Thanos it'll be a one-time thing, because the damage from controlling Thanos will move him off of that one click. Grodd also has one click of Psychic Blast, which will let him hurt Thanos or Sandman. And at the end of his dial he gets Outwit. Assuming by the time he gets there that any of his allies can actually take advantage of it. Black Manta - what to say that hasn't been laughed about already? Personally I have had some success with Manta, but only with the vet. The one click of incapacitate could prove useful against Sandman, though. Weather Wizard's in the same boat - useful against Sandman, but not to helpful to the rest of the team. Again he has incapacitate, but is unlikely to be able to hit Thanos. He can hit Sandman, and can also use his Force Blast to help his allies get away from Sandman's Plasticity. Joker has Perplex, which potentially allows his team to hit or hurt Thanos. And he has Mastermind, but not until he's lost his Perplex and is pretty useless to the team. Not quite sure why anyone on the team's going to want to take one for the Joker this game. And let's not forget the mighty Veteran Thug. Or how about we do. Plenty of figures, so pushing won't be a problem. But really bad odds of hitting, and even worse odds of doing any damage when they do. And even if they do, Thanos has 11 clicks of life. Plus Regeneration and a healer. Their Poison isn't of any use against their Invulnerable foes either.

I suppose it's always possible some miraculous dice rolls could win this one for Arcane's IL, but I don't see it happening. Even on their worst clicks Thanos's team need 7's to hit anything but completely unhurt opponents. I've got to go with the Universal Deities to take this one rather handily.

Thanks Nightcrawler for those kind words.

Also - praise be to Grinner for his stupendous preview of this match. He certainly knows his clix. That was the best "read" on the thread for a while. Very interesting and really good example of the intricacies of the powers in Heroclix.

I looked back at thread one of the tourney, and Grinner was about the first person ever to post, back in November 2000. Great to see him still here. Great to see all of you still here. Great to see someone 2 points clear on the prediction table.... Great to see round two coming closer......

Finally this tournament has now had over 100,000 views!!!!!
One tenth of a million hits in just under four months!!!!!
Still can't quite believe it's success.

Six weeks ago I emailed Wizkids to tell them about this thread.
I suggested they read it and see how intricate a game they have created and the kind of battles that you can "simulate". I wanted them to read about how flexible the game is and how many limitless possibilites the game has.
(And I was digging for praise from the manufacturer maybe).

You know what they said........?

Zip - No response!!!!!!

03/19/2003, 20:07
And thanks to tipplej for the kind words ;)

I generally try to do a comparison like that for each fight, in good part because it helps me see which way the match should lean. Talking it out lets me visualize it better.

Not that it always works - lots of matches are too close to call a clear favorite, some matches the strategy goes completely against what I expected and some matches the dice smile on the underdog.

But like you said, I've been here since the beginning and I'm looking forward to sticking it out to the end.

Finally found this thread. Weird maneuver to place it here. Perhaps the match should be postponed to make sure everyone can find it? I haven't seen it come up on the top threads list on the front page anymore.

anyway...

I'm going to lay my vote down on Thanos in the next match. The Deity's are outnumbered, but they have mobility, high defense, high attack, and high damage on their side. They have a chance at healing too.

On Arcane's side, there are several key players. While Black manta and Weather wizard are normally terrible, two incapacitators against a three figure team could be critical. Add in perplex, a little mind control, and some impervious and there could be real trouble for thanos.

I'm counting on thanos and dr.strange to take get some early KO's to even the odds. Grodd and Arcane are the only fears. Once they have taken 3-4 clicks, it should be all over.

The Biggest Tournament in the World has returned to HC Realms.

That said, sadly I cannot continue the tournament here. There are many reasons.
A tournament where people cannot post their views, and discuss the match predictions and result defeats the object. The contribution of so many people to the thread built a solid community around the tournament. The views and support of all those people is what kept me going. Without your posts, the tourney cannot ever be the same and there is no will for me to continue. I have no interest in simply posting results and having no discussion and opinions.

The fact that the thread has returned, is testament to the fact that I believe HC realms gave incorrect reasons for the removal of the thread. It seems clear that the size of the threads may have been the issue, not their “irrelevance”.. It is true that I would have respected them more if there were honest from the outset. I do not believe they were. I am not here however to bad mouth the site or the moderators, which has provided me with a valuable tool and much interesting discussion and information on Heroclix.

A number of the people from the tournament have left the site and vowed to never return. I simply cannot continue the tourney without them. The tournament is fragmented and incomplete and I am unsure if all of the original matches and discussions even still exists on the site. Thirty of the 64 matches were completed and that is a great achievement of which I am proud. I thank everyone for their contributions and comments – good or bad. Without you I would never and could not have gone on so long.

Special thanks to Nevest for his help on the table.

So what now for tipplej?

Well, I have just picked up all 54 LE figures from HT / IC and CT so now have a FULL set of clix! Yes I am a completist! I am just starting today with Xplosion, with my order of a case of 48 boosters. I guess it will take a couple of weeks to complete Xplosion and then I will have every clix available! A big achievement!

Who knows, in a few weeks I may start a tourney, using around 88 teams and all 530 ish figures including Xplosion and all LE’s !!!

If I do, it certainly wont be here.
Maybe I will try Creation Matrix . com.
Three final points.

Massive thanks again to everyone who read, contributed or glanced at the Biggest Tournament in the World. I made a lot of friends and met some great characters on the thread, who are too many to list. I wont even try, because I will miss many key names!

Point two is that if anyone wants to say a final farewell, feel free to email me on jasongayle2@tiscali.co.uk
I am truly sorry that the tourney died at it’s mid point. Sorry that I left you all with an incomplete story, but I gave it everything I had. I failed to break over the 30 mark though.

Finally, point three is that I will post the last two matches that I typed up. I feel I owe you that match. They are unchecked, so they may have grammar and spelling mistakes, so apologies for that.

Match 30.

Thanos and Co begin out the back of the mansion, by the back door next to the pool. Arcane and the IL bgin outside the front door. Arcance knows that Thanos and Strange could reach them in one swift action and blast them with Strange's ranged expertise. Cover is needed. The Thug and Black Manta charge into the front door and split. One goes left and the other goes right to block the two corridors that run either side of the toilet and lead to the back door. Arcane grabs a bookcase and scuttles Spider-like into the front door and hides in the cupboard either side of Manta and Thug.

Sandman slides forwards towards the back door to enter the house. The inevitable attack comes swiftly. Thanos flies Strange into the back door and turns right, dropping Strange in front of him. Strange takes aim down the right hand corridor leading to the front door and fires at Black Manta. The fiercest energy bolt ever seen tears down the corridor and slams into Black Manta's whole body and hurls him backwards down the corridor. The impact is a critcical hit that hurls Manta backwards. The combination of Strange's ranged expertise, the critical hit and the wall that Manta slams into, finishes him off with one blast. Bye-bye Black Manta! Unbelievable!

Reply immediately or not at all Arcane. Joker dashes to his right outside the house, as Weather Wizard flies Gorilla Grodd into the corridor where Manta was. Wizard drops Grodd in the corridor in front of him, in range of Strange and where Joker can now see him. It is a great opportunity - if he can control Strange, he can force him to over exert himself and blast Thanos at point blank range. What a move and devestating one this could be. Strange erects a defensive shield, but the Joker assists Grodd, shouting encouragement that fills him with determination. Grodd gives his best effort, but fails by a tiny margin. Strange just won the battle of minds, but it was a very brave, close effort, that could have had huge impact. Will the IL get a better opportunity?

Dr Strange is not prepared to risk a second battle of wills with the funky monkey and he pushes himself to generate another massive energy discharge. The shot slams into the tough Grundy who fares far better than Black Manta, but he still takes heavy damage. Strange is a one man team right now! The Thug barrels down the corridor into the room with Thanos and Strange. Perhaps he can cause diversion - but disappointingly he could not reach Thanos and possibly prevent him taking Strange away. Arcane scuttles ou of the cupboard and charges into close quarters with the pushed Doctor Strange, bookcase lofted.

Thanos is forced to delay his attack on the closing Thug and he grabs Strange and drops him to his side. Thanos doesnt move, but he takes Strange just out of range of Arcane and the close combat - bookcase slam. Sandman comes to the rescue, blending from behind Thanos to engage Arcane and Thug, tying them up by making the floor quicksand. This keeps Strange and Thanos safe from thrown bookcases at least. The Weather Wizard grabs the battered Gorrilla Grodd and flys in front of Arcane, is immediate proximity to Thanos and Strange. Grodd is dropped in close proximity to Strange, Thanos and Sandman. Lucky boy! The bonus is that Wizard and Grodd have formed a crucial defensive wall between Thanos and Strange, and the untouched impervious Arcane!

Joker is now in the corridor, behind his team mates and he encourages Arcane to attack Sandman. Joker's encourages Arcane to maximise damage and ignore accurracy. If you have seen a lousy attack with a bookcase - then this is the worst. Arcane slams the bookcase towards the invulnerable Sandman with a total lack of finesse. Amazingly, luckily, and ONLY because it is a bookcase, does Arcane connect with the close combat attack. The Joker was bang on correct! Go for damage. He only just hit, but the invulnerable Sandman takes a very solid hit and good damage. Books fly everywhere! A copy of Treasure Island bounces off the Sandman's head.

With Joker slightly behind his team, this match is still essentially an 8-figure pile up in a small room. Good work from Strange, Joker and Arcane. What now?

Dr Strange clobbers the adjacent Wizard with a solid boot to the chest, nearly knocking him off his cloud. The Wizard displays no fear though, bravely attempting to force blast Thanos back into the wall. The wind doesn't move Thanos one inch and he remains rock solid. Thug swings for the Sandman, but his fist hits soft sand and does nothing. The Sandman transforms one arm into an anvil shape and slams it into the adjacent Gorilla Grodd. Grodd is tough and only takes minor damage, but he is wearing down. Dr. Strange enhances Thanos and he fires point blank at Gorilla Grodd. Overkill. Thanos obilterates Grodd and scores the second KO against the IL team. The IL still have a four to three advantage though!

The Joker leaves the corridor and joins Arcane, putting himself next to Sandman. Again Joker encourages the impervious Arcane to go for maximum damage. Arcane clobbers the Invulnerable Sanndman with three feet, and manages to break through his barrier, casuing minor damage. Joker is directing Arcane superbly! Dr Strange blasts the Weather Wizard with a moderate damage energy discharge from point blank range.

The Joker poisons the wounded Sandman with a poison bomb as the Thug skips past his super-senses and flattens what remains of the Sandman to dust. Hard fought, great effort from Grodd, Joker, Thug and Arcane to defeat the Sandman. Great work. It is 4 against 2 now for the IL, but what a two to face.

Dr Strange risks another push to finish the ailing Weather Wizard in front of him and easily succeeds. This frees Thanos up, who does hesitate in making a Strange enhanced energy bolt fly towards the impervious Arcane. Arcane may be impervious, but not against that! Arcane takes his first damage of the match, but is still in good shape. Arcane retaliates against Thanos with a very good, potentially damaging psychic blast. This time Joker encourages him to hit at all costs. Trying to penetrate Thanos mind is near impossible and Arcanes efforts meet a brick wall. Joker himself scores a minor hit on Strange from short range with his pistol. Good effort Joker! The Thug bravely charges Thanos and Strange to protect his team from range attacks. Thug finished Sandman and is againing proving his worth. We knew Arcane would have to use every ounce from his team to win this, and that is exactly what he is doing. Thug, poison, perplex, it's all worth trying. Chuck the kitchen sink at themn if it works. If mind control and psychic blasts had worked, the IL would have been in better shape though. Still a match on here though.

Strange, like Thanos early, forgoes his own attack. Strange Telekenetically shifts Thanos away from the Thug and into close combat with Arcane. Strange pays for it though as Joker again blasts him for minor damage. He is softening Strange up! Strange's plan works though. Thanos swings a massive fist at the impervious Arcane and connects. Again, the imeprvious hyde of Arcane did not hurt him. Amazingly though, Arcane takes only minro damage. Man is he durable! Joker again helps Arcane with a psychic blast attempt on Thanos. Again he fails. The Thug charges into Thanos and Strange as Arcane again ries the psychic blast with Joker assist. Arcane fails again and Thanos clobbers him with a vicous double elbow. The tough Arcane takes moderate damage only. Fantastic! Arcane is going toe to toe with the monstrous Thanos. Twice his points and weight, and Arcane is fighting bravely!

The weakening Dr Strange unloads a pulse Wave that slams into every figure on the map. The blasts hurtles around the small room, but only the struglging Arcane is slightly hurt from the impact. The Thug pushes himself, with assistance from Joker and Arcane encouraging him to hit and maximise damage on Strange. Bullseye! Thug angrily and relentlessly pummels fists into Dr Starnge, casuing heavy damage! Thug is furious and is battering Strange senseless. What treamwork from this IL team! Without a hit on Thanos though, their chances look bleak. Joker too though is untouched.

Arcane has a swing for Thanos but to no avail. It is like hammering against concrete. Thanos finally delivers the killer blow that knocks the bravely fighting Arcane into next week! It's over for Arcane.

At that moment Dr Strange swings weakly for the relentless Thug, but the fellow dodges his wayward attack and Joker charges him. As Joker arrives, he encourages Thug to make sure he hits and a solid uppecur flies from Thug into the hovering Strange. Strange cannot believe what happens as he crashes unconcious to the floor with his cape settling over him like an ocean of blood.

Thanos deapatches the Thug from range with barely a glance, firing a casual blast that knocks him clean out.

Amazingly this match has bolied down to two figures, The Joker turns to Thanos grinning insanely. Thanos looks on with barely a sweat. Neither figure has taken a scratch. Both the Joker and Thanos are mint. A one n one match between experienced Joker and Thanos. 999 times out of a thousand, you would side with Thanos surely? Joker is facing certian defeat.

Joker lunges for Thanos, attempting the critcal hit to the throat. Thaos brushes him aside and smashes a mighty fist onto the top of Joker's head. Joker staggers, but ducks to the side and tries to slip a knife into Thano's back. Thanos bat's the Joker's hand aside with contempt at the feeble effort and throttles the breath out of the Joker with massive hands around his throat.

Joker gasps for breath and lifts his knees. One chance.....

Joker begins to black out but lifts hsi knees and drives his heels towards Thanos eyes in the hope of a critical blinding hit. The move forces Thanos to drop Joker on the floor as a precaution. Joker springs to his feet, with an instinct fo survival that belies the pummeling he has taken. Thanos makes a point blank range attack at him and the energy blast knocks Joker off his feet, burning through his suit and knocking him out.

Thanos stands supreme. Unhit. Unhurt. Undamage. Untouched. Invulnerable. Truly a God-like performance from the Universal Deity's.

What can you say? Thanos was a rock. Strange showed good endurance and scored heavy damage in the begginning. Sandman was little more than an inulnerable object that tied up the enemy for a good time while the other two did there work.

The IL gave a far better performance than I ever expected, I'll be honest.Getting the match to one on one with Thanos was respectable enough. Prasie them for use of everything they Had. Even the Thug was used to his maximum potential. Arcane was brave and they all fought with everything they had. If they had been very lucky and the mind control on strange had worked, and the resultant RCE had worked on Thanos, this might have been closer. That one shot was very difficult to pull off, but the result would have been damage to Thanos, and push damage to Strange. Also, Strange could not have pushed and blasted Grodd, and Arcane's later psychic blasts may have been achievable on Thanos. Certianly Grodd woud have had a second go at Strange probably as well.

I really believe that had the MC Strange push RCE Thanos move succeeded, then the IL could have beaten Universal.

Take nothing away from them. The Universal team is a very formidable one. Weak point? Maybe Sandman and Strange can be taken first leaving Thanos alone. Problem is Strange can take a fair beating and so can Sanmdan. Can you afford to leave Thanos alone for that long? And if you take Thanos first, he does not deteriorate for so long. Fire with fire maybe. You need a monster to beat a monster.

Match 31 sees the high pointing - 342 point Gotham team face the Titans.

The matsermind of Commishioner Gordon should lead well in this team, and the three cops and the 3 very well armoured - tough Metropolis SCU's should keep him alive for a good while. The ever impressive stealthy, ouwitting Batman is the key figure here. Except for any natural protection, he has everything. Lethal up close, effective at range, tough to finish, outwitting, stealthy and of course his massive Willpower, make him the figure to beat. His trusty rookie Robin sidekick should prove little threat, but is another stealthy figure. The Gotham team enjoy the outwit of Nightwing too, plus range options from Nightwing and Huntress. What team would be complete without another fighter? They also have Blade, who can deal more damage than anybody on the team. A good, balanced team. Perfect though? No. Batman lacks two things here - he has no flight, and only Commishioners leadership to help manoever so many figures. Secondly, if Batman falls, you have to wonder where the threat will come from on this team. Batman has a lot of "nobodies" on his team.

The Titans have a predominantly fighting team, against a ranged one. Charging super strong, combat expert Hawk and flying close expert Dove are real threats. Dove is tough to hit too. Arcane is an impervious monster, sadly only a rookie here. Still - he is super strong and armed with a host of other tricks - poison, perplex and psychic blast. Two incapacitators add to the team in Widow and Manta. Finally the real bag of tricks that is Changleing makes up this team. The Titans have some good fighters, including four veterans and will need to get amongst the lesser figures that are outnumbering them and hope to rip them up. It's strength -vs- numbers in this match, with Blade the only Marvel figure in an otherwise DC match up.

This match takes place in the mansion (again!). Both teams start outside the mansion sides, facing small side doors that lead into the main building. The Titans gather around the centre of the door. Commishioner Gordon, Nightwing and the three cops take up position to the left of the map, whilst the rest of Gotham's finest line up in the centre and right of the door.

Dove carries Arcane forwards and left of the mansion, towards Commishioner and the cops, whilst Changeling and Hawk dash inside the mansion. On the other team, Robin and the vetera SCU enter the house and bear left into a small room, Robin hiding stealthily behind a toilet - yes a toilet! The Huntress looking sexy as ever in black, moves into the house and into the corridor in the middle of the house, getting a line of sight towards where the Titans may appear. She van almost see the middle of the mansion.

Hawk pushes himself to charge deeper into the house and becomes stronger as a result. Dove pushes to gain her own improved abilities and carries Arcane into the corridor in the middle. Arcane lands in the corridor, grabs a gumball machine and charges down it into the Huntress, aiming to negate her dangerous ranged ability. Up close, the Huntress has no chance of gettuing a shot off at Arcane and she pushes to flee from the impervious spidery-monster. She flees down the corridor and out of the house to the rest of her team. She makes a strategic withdrawal, over exerting herself to leap away from Arcane. Nightwing moves on top of a car near Huntress, securing himself a line of sight down the corridor to cover Arcane. Nightwing taunts Arcane and he drops the gumball machine in anger!

Batman leaps into action, tearing into the house with amazing speed, bearing left into the small room to join Robin and the veteran SCU. Batman can see Hawk from his new position. The Titans also move, as Changeling dashes in the corridor, joining Dove. Black Manta and Black Widow also enter the house, behind Changeling.

Batman uses his immense willpower to push himself to react before Hawk. Batman is so quick that the usually tough Hawk lets down his guard and Batman's thrown ranged weapon slams into him with incredible accurracy. The vet SCU supported Batman. Hawk is falls backwards, but cannot move in the small space and he simply slams backwards into a wall. Ouch! Before Hawk can recover, the veteran SCU unloads with a barrage of machine gun fire. Hawk is riddled with lead and critcilly hit! Hawk is slammed back again into the wall and has taken incredible punishment. Hawk slumps into uncnciousness, losing blood. What a number Batman and the SCU have done on him! He will be out of action for months! The Titans have lost a solid fighter.

Arcane is determined to answer the call and he unloads on Nightwing from range. The blast travels down the corridor, out of the door and slams into Nightwing. Nightwing came round the corner in the hope of getting a shot and helping Huntress, but only learnt why she fled. Ne knows now that Arcane is deadly from range or up close. Nightwing is critically hurt from the blast to the chest and hurled backwards off the bonnet of the car. Nightwing flies through the air and slams hard into a garden wall, in severe pain! Vicious attack from Arcane. Nightwing is still alive amazingly, but well past his best. Arcan made him pay for taunting him and making him drop his gumball machine!

Dove flies into the corridor and lands in front of Arcane, putting herself between Arcane and any potential Gotham advance down the corridor. The Changeling also springs into action, pushing himself to run into the small room and engage Robin and the veteran SCU. Changeling is now at his best. Robin aims a kick at the Changeling who fails to shift and confuse Robin. Robin scores a minor punch on the tough ape! The Widow and Manta advance deeper into the house, getting nearer the room with Robin, SCU, Batman and Chanegling in. The veteran SCU tries to hit the Changeling with the butt of his rifle, but only hits the wall. Batman jumps forward in the small crampt room so he can see the Changeling.

Nightwing makes a futlie attempt to fire over the car at Dove, but his shot is wayward and misses by miles. He really is hurt from Arcane's blast. Blade edges into the house and sidesteps left of the corridor to block anyone coming down it - Dove or Arcane maybe. The Huntress returns Nightwing's favour, jumping in front of him and the doorway to the corridor that leads to Arcane and Dove. Dove immediately reacts, lifting Arcane in front of her and flying a short way down the corridor. Dove lands next to Blade at the end of corridor, dropping Arcane in front of her - next to Blade and the experienced SCU who is just outside the door in the garden. Arcane clobbers Blade up close and he is hurt from the attack and clutches a sword-wielding hand to his side in pain. Arcane may have just done enough to prevent a solid blade retaliation on him or Dove. Getting reid of the blade threat would be a real danger removed.

Batman wants to be sure that he hits Changeling and indeed outwitts his attempts to confuse them with Shapechange, warning his team over the trick too! Batman attacks from range again and scores moderate damage on the tough Changeling. Robin follows up with a light kicj on the ape. Batman and Robin fighting together - just liek they always do! Batman is the big gun, whilst Robin socks away at them!

Blade shows he is not done for yet and pushes himself furiously in an all out assuault on Arcane. Blade is incredibly lucky and scores a direct hit, connecting with a full strength maximum blade attack with both swords on the impervious Arcane. Arcane took heavy damage there! Blade is tired though and drops his blades. How did Blade pull off such an incredible hit? Huntress follows up, pushing herself to fire at Arcane in the doorway. The ranged expert hits home with a crossbow bolt, doing more damage to the big monster. He is in trouble!

The Black Widow takes up cover behind a sofa as Black Manta dashes up behind the Changeling, using him as cover. The veteran SCU slams his rifle into the adjacent Changeling and knocks the poor ape clean out. Great work from the veteran!

Blade decides to chance an attack on the difficult to hit Dove, pushing himself in the process. Blade's heroic efforts are in vain, as the ladt easily dodges him.Dove follows up with her close combat expertise and finishes Blade off! First KO to the Titans. This does not turn out to be a fightback though as the experienced SCU attacks the injured Arcane, literally kicking him unconcious! Only Dove, Manta and Widow remain for the Titans, all pretty fresh but facing 11 opponents. Things do not look fantastic for them, but the Gotham team still have to contend with the hard to hit Dove.

The rookie SCU dashes alongside Huntress and Nightwing to assist their fire. Huntress uses his support to make a difficult attempt at Dove. Fantastic shot from the super accurate Huntress. She hits Dove at first attempt, and despite Dove's super senses, her reactions are not good enough. Dove takes medium damage! The SCU's help made all the difference. Solid teamwork.

Batman and Robin are free to move, now that Changeling has gone, so they take up the offensive and charge out of the small room to engage Widow Black Manta. The Widow is a short distance away in cover. Manta is keen to inacpacitate the Caped Crusader with his trident, but Batman outwits him.The Black Manta does score a glancing blow that gashes accross Batman's arm though for minor damage! The hidden Widow strikes from short range and scores minor damage on Robin. Manta and Widow are doing OK !!! Batman's strength of will allows him a quick response and he kichs the rough Manta hard in the chest. Manta grits his teeth and soaks up some of the pain. He is pretty tough, the bulbous headed one!

Back in the corridor, the veteran SCU moves to the end and side of the corridor to engage the inujured Dove in hand to hand. He leaves the corridor line of sight free, and Huntress is joined by the veteran cop. Huntress now has two helpers and can freely shoot at Dove whilst she is tied up with the SCU. Before Huntress has a chance though, Dove shows she has plenty left by driving a vicous elbow into the tough SCU's throat. The SCU staggers at the blow from the close combat expert, clutching his throat in gasping pain. He still stands though!

The experienced SCU approaches Dove from the other corner edge of the corridor. Dove now faces two opponents hand to hand and three from range! Huntress let's rip with another bolt, with support from her two allies. The shot travels through the garden and door to the opening of the corridor and heads for Dove's neck. Dove ducks to one side with amazing super-sense reactions and the bolt embedds itself in the wall. Great save Dove- but she faces massive odds.

Back in the house, the dazed Robin swings his staff at the Black Manta, but he parries the blow with his trident, spins on his heel and slams the weapon into Batman. Another hit by Manta on Batman! Robin is off balance and too slow to avoid another range attack from the Black Widow and this time he is knocked out cold! Batman now faces two figures alone, as the rest of the team are utside in the garden near Dove. Batman has faced far worse odds in his time though and this won't phase him. Batman raises his game. The close combat expert drives the heel of his left hand against the Black Manta's huge head, rocking his skull inside. The tough Manta is badly hurt and stunned from the blow

Back outside the badly injured Nightwing, who never recovered from the attack by Arcane limps towards the house. The veteran SCU tries to club Dove, but misses as she hovers to one side. Dove has no better luck, missing her own attack on the experienced SCU.
Huntress fires once more with two people supporting her and scores again on Dove with a shot that has definitely weakened the bird of peace. The experienced SCU takes advantage of the situation to attack her, but her super senses are still tuned and she avoids the attack. She would have rather avoided Huntresses shot, thats for sure.

Batman repeats his close combat expert attack on the stunned Black Manta and rattles his brain from the other side. Slam! Black Manta crumples like tissue paper in a tsunami - knocked out stone-cold! The match is now 10 against 2. It looks over for the Titans for sure. Can they take anyone down with them, other than just Blade? The Black Widow has no option but to attack Batman and scores her third succesful shot in a row from her stealthy position behind the sofa.

The veteran SCU clobbers Dove with the butt of his rifle again and the poor flier is in real trouble. Huntres senses the end and pushes herself for another shot. This time she critically hits the slowing target of Dove with a bolt that embedds under Dove's left armpit. Dove drops to the gorund, bleeding and hurt and will take no further part in the match!

True to crime fighting form, Batman is joined by one of the SCU, before approaching Widow. Batman has just taken another hit, but he leaps over the sofa to face her up close. Batman is accompanied by the experienced SCU who appraoches her from the other side of the sofa.

The Black Widow succesfully incapacitates Batman, but only stuns him breifely. Batman quickly engages his close combat skills and scores a heavy drop kick to her chin and she staggers backwards into the SCU who slams his rifle into her back and knocks her to the ground. Widow is under arrest. The Titans are out and this one is Over!

Robin and Blade were the only losses for the Gotham team. Nightwing was in very bad shape and Batman himself took a good few knocks. The Gotham team was relatively untested in this match though.

The Wizard displays no fear though, bravely attempting to force blast Thanos back into the wall. The wind doesn't move Thanos one inch and he remains rock solid.
*Blink*
What, in terms of game mechanics is that?

There is no attack roll or damage reduction on force blast attacks, they automatically hit and cause knockback. I think this is the second fight where that happened.

Actually, you're only half right. There is no attack roll, but two of the three damage reduction powers (Toughness & Invulnerability) do work against the knockback damage caused by Force Blast. Impervious does not because Impervious only triggers against targeted damage.

Yes, there were some good times hled on these threads. Now I'm back to my usual sporadic, ghost reader, non-poster. Hopefully (though I doubt it) HCRealms will wise up and allow us our Tourny threads. Until that happens, we can always reminise on how fun that was to run to the computer and cross you fingers that the latest results were in and that you guessed correctly... allowing you to type in some well-earned verbal jousts. :) Yup... certainly good times...

I actually had a buddy who was "banned" from this site for defending tipplej. I think this was the first time I came back to this site since the tourney was nixed. I doubt I'll come back again. But never say never...

Tipplej you posting a new tournament is about all that'd get me posting here again. Like some of the others I'm a lurker again these days.

Guess that makes me a "lurker" too at the minute.
(Except this post of course) !

Need to get all of CJ before considering anything new...

Well, at risk of being deleted/banned/etc...

Why don't you guys who are missing the old tournament days come over and check out Creationmatrix.com?

Thats where I wound up after tourney threads got evicted.

I started my own tourney, and before you knew it, they made a new forum and turned me into a mod. Its a great site, and a fantastic atmosphere.

We usually have two or three tournies going at a time in the "Tournament Island" forum. And we would love to host a tournament as successful as yours was tipplej.

Come check it out. Its grown a lot since the controversy, I think you'll dig it.

I know for me, personally, I wouldn't start back up here. The wounds run too deep.

I dont even lurk much here anymore. :disappoin

Oh man, when I saw this thread bumped up, I thought the tournament started up again. I got so excited, I almost pissed in my pants. Argh!!!! I would happily go over to the other site to read TippleJ's tournament. I miss it, big time. It's not right what they did to you TippleJ.

I think tipplej is going to do it! :) He's just toying with us at the moment - working the crowd like a true pro!

Seriously though, hurry up and get all of CJ tipplej and start your tourney antics again. I'm sure you've checked out the other site already but like Fogs says, you'd be guaranteed a warm welcome and loads of support!

I could probably take up my old duties of scoreboard keeper if tipplej ever gets another tournament going. I've got an account over on creationmatrix. Let me know.
