Superman looks like a Beast !!! Thanks for the preview......:)
straight forward and in your face, my favorite supes yet.
AUKOS
I'm expecting that some people will moan about the last two clicks two damage values, but I like them. Combined with Earthbound and Regeneration, it seems to be a decent way of representing those moments where he seems to be on the ropes, and then gets his (super)breath back and charges back into the fray. Nice.

All-Star Supes? Bleargh! I hated that storyline.
Oh well, at least this should satisfy all those people who complain we haven't gotten a decent Superman since Icons. He is definitely a beast.

That's genius. I can't wait to see the 300 point version fight two 150 pt Supermen. It would be like when King Hyperion fought his goodie-gooodie cross-dimensional duplicates in Exiles...

Love the dial, Sculpt is Super LAME. ITS SUPERMAN FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!!!! He looks like a R&B singer. Can we fix the Sculpts already they are getting worse, with the exclusion of a few figures each set.

Now THAT IS SUPERMAN! Love the two levels you can play him at too, but my only qualm would be his range. Shouldn't Superman have a 10 range? Keep em coming WK!

Wow, they found a way to overpower Superman. I take it this was due to someone from DC whining "You have a MARVEL character more powerful than our precious poster boy? WAAAAAAAH!"
How would they react if Wizkids/NECA ever got a hold of DBZ property and clixed it? Goku and Vegeta would be too much for him to handle WITHOUT going Super Saiyan...

For a common figure I think the sculpt is pretty good. His pose certainly beats that of DC75 Superman, so I wouldn't say the sculpts are getting worse.

I think his dial looks a little awkward. I didn't read much All Star Superman, because I didn't enjoy the writing and style of the first couple of issues, so I can't speak for accuracy of the dial, but the layout just looks weird. I like the mechanic of allowing 2 point costs on a single figure in theory, but this dial at least looks a little too mashed up to fit the concept. The Frost Giant piece was really cool, though, so I definitely look forward to seeing some more of these dials.
Man. I was hoping there wouldn't be a bunch of HSS on this one. I still think a HSS that makes him stop moving once he attacks would be far more accurate. Or even a full speed Charge or a full speed Running Shot. Also, I don't think Perplex is terribly accurate.
On the bright side, he looks worth his points and he shows us a new side of Superman, so I'll give some kudos to Wizkids on this one.

Turn and face down evil one mor time!! Superman with frontloaded outwit!!

I wasn't always a big DC fan, so I'm not totally sure what all powers Superman has (or maybe its more like doesn't have), but I don't recall Superman having super intelligence or super mind powers so I don't understand the outwit or psychic blast. Not sure where support or perplex comes from either. I like the regeneration but it should be called something like "Fly to the sun" and he should have to move to his starting area to use it. Superman deserves to be a 300+ point character, but this is not the Superman I picture in my head. Supes should be punching peoples faces in but he doesn't have a single click of close combat expert?!
If this isn't a "definitive" Superman, I don't know what is. Great stuff!
Powerful, definitely!
But definitive it is not. What about that says Superman.
Grounded is not definitively Superman
Psychich Blast is not definitively Superman
Support is not definitively Superman
Outwit is not definitively Superman
Perplex is not definitively Superman
Regeneration is not definitively Superman
HSS is not definitively Superman

QFT It's 001 in the set so it's a common. I believe the sculpt is based on some Neal Adams work as well.

No AE required just play the 150 point version if you want. From what I can tell at least.
So for once the promises of a definitive figure have come true. Looks like I might be going overboard on purchasing the superman set, and then trail off the spending for a while.

It's the version that appeared in the Grant Morrison 12 issue series All-Star Superman. The power descriptions are direct quotes from that storyline. It was in some ways a tribute to classic Silver Age Superman stories, where he did outrageous super-smart stuff all the time. In the first crossover with Spider-Man when they fought Doc Ock and Lex Luthor he rebuilt a destroyed computer in seconds with his superspeed and photographic memory.

I love that they didn't use any special powers. A basic (and common) Superman doesn't need any. And yet they crammed in so many unique elements! Great support-role powers. Especially Support. ;) I love seeing that power show up more often and in more creative applications. At 300, I can see this figure pulling his own weight. He has HSS, great stats, solid damage reduction, and Outwit. That's Skrull-vel on Steroids and not afraid to let someone see. Most of all, I love having the 150 option; I never fit him into my teams because I care about the other teammates more, and at that low cost I can afford to.

Why would a great preview for a common make you change your purchase plans? Wait until the great Super Rares show up before making that kind of decision!
This one definitely makes up for the horrid DC75th Superman!!
Very good representation. My CD Man of Steel can now take a break every once in a while :)

It's the All-Star version of the character : in this maxi-serie, Superman get accidentaly an overdose of solar radiations that enhance his powers to the point of dying of it. Among many things, he accomplishes 12 tasks (like answering the un-answerable question and even creating a full universe to study life), all of it being due to his Super (and damn enhanced) intelligence, before dying : Outwit and Perplex and the like all the way then (the Support being when he find a cure for nearly every human disease using miniaturized kandorian commandos). It's also a very human take on the character, and thus I'm not surprised to see it not as close-combat oriented brick : this is not the Superman that fight Imperiex and darkseid but the god-like benevolent being that help people, use his brain and even forgive Lex Luthor.
And frankly, it's the best take on the character since Birthright (Waid/Yu) and Man Of Steel (Byrne) : read it, it's worth every dollar you'll put in ;)
But in the 60's/70's, Superman was supposed to have an intelligence of near-genius level, allowing him to fight scientific threats like the robotic Brainiac.

I fear him with Professor X from GSX backing him. I think he's awesome at either point value. Crisis E-2 Kal-L is still my Superman of choice for two reasons:
1) I love the full movement charge. I like that he stays in your face to slug it out, even if there's the threat of outwit.
2) In golden age you can put shellhead on him thanks to not being indomitable (but his trait of not taking pushing damage is amazing with shellhead).
I look forward to rocking out with "All-Star" Superman. Don't forget that you can outwit stealthed characters thanks to Superman TA! Sorry Batman, but I'm gonna outwit your outwit. X-Ray vision sucka's!
It looks like the set symbol is the diamond with more of an 8 than an S. I'm not a frequent reader of Superman comics, but I know this is the House of El character that they used in the early seasons of Smallville (which I watched faithfully).
Interesting to note this was from the All Star Superman book. (I think issue 1 was a free comic book day give-away one year.) I at first thought that Supes with outwit was overkill, but if super smarts was his schtick in All Star Superman, I guess it's appropriate.

If a common is this good, coupled with the pictures we saw of the SRs, and I'm sensing my favorite of all time.

I think part of it is the fact he is obtainable. E-2 is just a figment of most folks imagination. How about the definitive piece without any special powers?
THE definitive piece, IMHO, would start off as medium hitter with leadership type special power, and then he hulks up as he sees that he needs to take the kiddie gloves off. Kind of like how maelstrom was laid out. Throw in some of the old Doomsday defensive special power of "stop here when clicking the dial", so he does blow right through his good clicks, etc... It should take a team of coordinated folks to take down the definitive supes.

I am loving this figure! I think I just really like the flavor text of his character card. The only thing that would make this figure a bit more definitive to me would be giving him a trait that granted him Defend for his dial.

I love the idea of Superman starting his dial with outwit! And that he is common, like the Thor from HoT.
Although I hate that you have spend points for support on your 300point figure. At least it's just one click and could be useful if you run him at his 150 point level.
I just got pumped for the new set!

kudos on his dial design
it's been ages since they've made a superman that didn't overemphasize heat-vision (RCE) over his strength (though the over-proliferation in 2011 of PPB is another issue)
love that he's a beast, and love that he's IIRC the first single-base figure to sport 300 pts and different point levels.
this set looks to be off to a great start
TheVagrantKing
07/22/2011, 13:14
The potential of that Kryptonian keyword...greatest thing about the piece, IMO. If only they had come out with the 'Kryptonite Man' a few sets later...
Honestly, how many effects out there do you guys think are going to say, 'this character can use Outwit on opposing characters with the Kryptonian keyword.'
I would not be surprised if they made an omni powerful piece in this or any Superman, but included like 5-6 'Silver Bullets' in the set.

Did wizkids learn nothing from vet icons sups. This fig is REALLY over powered and to the best over my knowledge a bad representation of superman.
1) Scene when is Super man a scientist
2) Why the hell dose he have top dial outwit I could understand mid to late dial when he realizes that he cant just bash a particular foe in to the ground and has to think of a way to beat then but he doesn't plan out his fights and know all his enemy weaknesses like batman.
3) Super man should not have top dial Hyper Sonic he should start charge and then go in to Hyper Sonic. He holds back at the start so he doesn't accidentally kill someone.
Pardon my rant but I don't really like sups as character and I'm sure there is some story line where this dial is perfectly accurate but it still annoys the hell out of me.

i have no complaints on the sculpt. the big red s isn't standing around, he's soaking up some yellow sun rays to fuel his 300 point cost.
as for the rest of the set, just look at the preview sculpts when they announced the set. flash is looking slick, matter-eater lad looks fun and wildfire is awesome. so long as matter-eater lad isn't squirrel girled into being SR, i have no complaints going into this set. at all.

Hmmm I agree with some of these. I can see Supes having Penetrating Blast because of the power of his heat vision. I don't see Supes having Earthbound, Outwit, Support, or Perplex. Maybe Perplex +1 to friendlies because of the effect he has in rallying the good guys. I don't see Superman in the middle of a sun-sized chunk of green kryptonite ever having 2 damage, or a 15 defense, or below an 8 movement (but I understand he's all sick there but I don't regard All-Star Superman as definitive in any way). Superman should always have HSS and Regeneration. The definitive Superman for me should have uncounterable defensive powers and uncounterable Indomitable except with the enemy use of the green kryptonite object or Superman Enemy Outwit (which represents green kryptonite).

gah, powerful supes is back and he's got outwit now.
plus he's a common. there'll almost always be the threat of someone playing him.
glad they curbed his range and movement slightly.
For a common figure I think the sculpt is pretty good. His pose certainly beats that of DC75 Superman, so I wouldn't say the sculpts are getting worse.
yes, this one isn't depressed, and see how much better he feels? judging from the stats and powers anyway.
I don't get this. Would this sculpt be unacceptable if it was a SR?
The sculpts for GSX were really good overall, but I think they are starting to back track a little bit.
I agree, decent sculpt for a common. Rares and SR's tend to have more thought and effort put into the dial. why bother putting a lot of effort and thought into a 1 dollar fig?
also, having better sculpts has the effect of increasing the value of some R's and SR's. Marketing wise it makes perfect sense that what is acceptable for commons is not acceptable for SR's sculpt-wise.
GSX commons/uncommons sculpts like madrox, hellions members, domino, harry leland, elixir, emma frost, cyclops, omega prime sentinel, aaron stack, etc. were not that great. GSX R's and SR's were good.
Ok, since no-one is going to answer....
Psychic Blast: ### #1. Superman use a Magnetic kind of power to destroy a Suicide Human bomb. Also, he carries the Leo Quintum Ship with this power.
Support: ### #10. He cures the cancer.
Grounded: ####12. I think it's because his body can't resist more sun power and his skin is kinda transforming. (But he keep his powers).
Outwit: ####12. Outsmarts Lex Luthor (who has the same powers as Superman). And i guess, outsmarting the Ultra Sphinxs counts.
Perplex: Repair the Sun (####12), Create a new universe (####10)
Regeneration: ####12 Superman decided to continue fighting Luthor after his death.
By the way, #### means All Star Superman, LOL!
Definitely the best common Superman that's been put out. The Crisis figures could still mop the floor with him, though.

I'm really glad to see a Superman click that shows off how intelligent he is. Just because he can hit stuff really hard, it doesn't mean he can't be smart too. ESPECIALLY in the All Star Superman series. It really is a fun read.
That being said, some people understand Superman, some people don't. It's just as simple as that.
Definitely the best common Superman that's been put out. The Crisis figures could still mop the floor with him, though.
I don't know about that. That outwit with those stats and HSS. He's going to give both of them a run for their money. Especially if you use two of 150 version.

Awesome figure. First preview for the new set is an amazing #1 common Superman, great job. I'm looking forward to the set more than ever.
And to everyone who thinks there shouldn't be a character with this power at common, have you ever played against HOT common Thor? At 75% of this Superman's top cost, I still think Thor is the better fig.
Outwit, Perplex and Support makes the common Superman better than Hot Thor, also HOT Thor have a lot of problems agaisnt Stealth figures.
I have played agaisnt Hot Thor. I'm not saying his bad. Just saying he's a powerful brick and that's all, he can't fill more roles in your team. In a 300 point game, you can use Superman(150), Reed Richards and 2 researchers and have better results and more fun.

A great Superman definitely fits All Star Superman perfect, and good luck getting him past HSS, knock him off it and he gets it again later, lol.
So I hope no one things I'm putting this Superman down (I'm not it's amazing), but this isn't the definitive Superman they promised us.
No I'm not saying we aren't getting one, but if you all look at the post when they talked about it, they straight up said it was going to be the buy it by the brick figure, except it was going to come in brick/case (it might be by it by the case figure), this is an amazing common, but it's not hte normal universe Superman, no JLA, no Justice League, it's All Star Superman.
So those of you worried about your Justice League teams don't despair, the definitive Superman is in the set and has yet to be previewed. :)

Superman 001 (300pts)
vs.
HOT 016 Thor +
Fortitude
Protected
Shellhead
Blood Oath
Vendetta (special rule to allow it)
Armor Piercing (some versions of Superman are prone to magic)
Lunge (300pts)
(or some other combination of feats to even-out points between the two).
fun game or imbalanced?

I thought this piece was depicting the 'All-Star Superman' story line. That's the only way I could rectify some of the details about this piece.

It is. All of the power names are quotes from the series. The significant appearance is the first issue of the series. All of the powers fit in the context of the series. And this would be the definitive version of Superman but for one thing...
...no JLA keyword. Yeah, it doesn't fit in the context of the series, but a Superman who isn't thematic with the JLA is not a definitive version of the character.

Nice a Supes who will roll with the weight class of his set. Wish he had freeze breath though

I like it idea but his 300 pt version is not worth it.
i am sorry but if i field 2 150 pt superman against 1 its unfair.
One i would get theme team so 2 pcs. Plus 2 outwits. so now the 300 pt does not have HSS or outwit or imprive or whatever. he would fold faster then superman on laundry day!:cheeky: I think he should have be immune to outfit for the 300 pt version. thats my 2 cents! i look forward to playing the 150 pt version!

I love that he is a Common. What a great Superman. It's great that he can be played for 300 or 150 points.

Does anyone have the link or know where I can find the article from a bit back that talked about how this set was making a definitive Superman?

definitive Superman?
I am not sure is DC fans will ever be happy with superman until he is some 500 point beast with 16 HS movement, 13 SS attack, 21 def,and does a 6 Outwit damage on his 1st click.
Superman haters will just say "hey, I like hypertime superman... he is the definitive...he sucks just like the real(comic) one does"
I tend to be in the 1st camp.
I want a Christopher Reeve sculpt for it though... You know, I just went on a comic book movie binge(all of them...ALL) lately and I have to say Reeve Superman movie I and II are still the best. All these new ones are fun but just lack something when compared to Superman I.
