View Full Version : 100 Bullets: The Counterfifth Detective
Jackofhearts2005
07/27/2011, 17:15
I'm opening this thread a little early so that everyone has time to read the rules and review the previous characters/stories (if you haven't read the series yet or didn't play in my other games) at their leisure.
Things you should know:
1) Standard mafia rules apply about not pming, editing, etc.
2) Since the Counterfifth Detective does not have a lot of characters in it, some of the stories from other books have been added to it. Geography and time have been shifted to allow for these stories to take place in the same city at the same time.
3) Not all townies have the same win condition wording but they all mean the same thing. When all scum is gone, the town wins.
4) The mafia has safeclaims.
5) If you don’t understand what’s happening, PLEASE do not just go “Oh em gee I’m so lost.” Pm me and tell me what part of the story is confusing you. I’ll do my best to explain in a neutral manner. It is my goal to allow all players, even ones that haven’t read these stories, to compete on equal footing.
Characters from previous games:
The Trust – An organization made up of the heads of thirteen families, controlling all major criminal activity in the United States.
The Minutemen – Seven deadly assassins who worked as the Trust’s muscle as well as judge, jury and executioner when it came to disputes between members of the Trust. After the Minutemen and the Trust had a falling out, the Minutemen kidnapped and executed one head of the Trust. Supposedly, they were all killed but that seems to have been a premature announcement.
Agent Graves (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=14794) - Traditionally played by Jackofhearts2005, Agent Graves was the leader of the Minutemen. He had his men hidden, hypnotized into leading false lives. With the word Croatoa, Graves has been awakening his soldiers for what appears to be war with the Trust. In the meantime, he’s been offering certain individuals attaché cases containing a gun and one hundred untraceable bullets. While often referred to as his game, Graves insists each case is a test.
Megan Dietrich (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=14797) – A young but coldhearted woman, she took over as a head of the Trust when her father was murdered by the Minutemen.
Lono aka the Dog (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17258) – A former minutemen with no morals and the raw power and skills kill with impunity.
Cole Burns aka the Wolf (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17255) – A former minutemen and Graves’ right hand man.
Trade Four/Six Characters from previous games:
Mr. Shepherd (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=14795) – Former liaison between the Trust and the Minutemen. He still works for the Trust but maintains his friendship with Agent Graves, making his objectives unclear.
Dizzy Cordova aka the Girl (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17256) – A young woman who was the recipient of one of Graves’ cases. She is now being groomed to be a new Minuteman by Mr. Shepherd.
Wylie Times (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17259) – A former minuteman, now reduced to working as a gas station attendant. Shepherd attempted to contact him but without Graves’ codeword, but was unable to awaken him.
Augustus Medici (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17257) – Head of the house of Medici and overall leader of the Trust.
Benito Medici (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17254) – Son of Augustus, Benito would rather work with Mr. Shepherd than embrace his role as heir to the house of Medici.
Mr. Branch (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=14799) – A former reporter and another recipient of one of Graves’ cases. Instead of killing his target, Branch became obsessed with the Trust, Minutemen, their history and their plans.
Note: Not all of these characters will be in this game...or maybe they will. At the very least, these characters may be mentioned and I don't want anyone going "Who is JoH talking about?" :cross-eye
A brief review of the past four games:
First Shot, Last Call/Split Second Chance
His Minutemen in hiding and his power significantly reduced, Agent Graves took several individuals: Dizzy Cordova, Lee Dolan, Cole Burns, Chucky Spinks and Lily Roach and gave them each an attache case. Inside, was a picture of someone who had ruined their lives, proof and payback, a gun with one hundred untraceable bullets.
Chucky and Lee ended up dead. Dizzy killed one of the men responsible for the deaths of her husband and son but was arrested for a crime she didn't commit before she could find the other. Cole's mark (the man who burned down the nursing home Cole's grandmother was living in) escaped but Cole, a former Minuteman, joined Graves as his right hand man. Only Lily completed her mission, killing her husband for sexually abusing their daughter, which lead to the daughter's death. Graves decided that Lily was not mentally stable enough to use as a Minuteman. Meanwhile, Mr. Shepherd cleared Dizzy's name and took her under his wing.
The Charm
Graves next went about attempting to recruit Lono, the only Minuteman that still had his memories. Lono refused and so Graves struck at Lono, intent on teaching the Minuteman a lesson.
Graves then gave an attache case to Loop Hughes, son of Curtis Hughes, one of his most trusted agents. Inside was a picture of Loop's father, a man who had abandoned his mother. Loop confronted his father and the two reconciled. In the end, Curtis sacrificed his life to steal a large sum of money for his son. Loop avenged his father's death but Graves arranged for him to be arrested for murder.
A Foregone Tomorrow
Concerned with Graves' growing influence, Shepherd and Dizzy traveled to El Paso to find Wylie Times, a former Minuteman. Not knowing Graves' code word, they were unable to wake the Minuteman out of his false life.
Meanwhile, Graves and Burns planned to strike at the Trust in Atlantic City. However, their plans were thwarted.
This brings us to the fifth portion of our tale, the story of

Night Zero
The Trust finished up their business in Atlantic City and they all went back to their personal territory. The largest of them, a man named Daniel Peres, flew back home. When he landed, he expected to find a group of bodyguards waiting. Instead, he found the old man and…no! It couldn’t be! He was supposed to be dead! He approached the pair, wondering if he’d end up that way, too.
“Daniel” the old man smiled at him. “You remember Cole Burns.”
“Yes. Yes of course.”
“Why don’t you come with us, Mister Peres?”
The fat man agreed and they led him to a parked limo outside of airport. He got in the back and Graves and Burns got in on either side of him.
Soon after, the old man and his wolf exited the limo and closed the doors behind them, leaving the fat man’s body behind, a knife stuck in its back.
Daniel Peres is dead. (Alignment: Neutral/Trust)
12 to go...
1 week later…
A short fat man, a stump of a man you could say, named Branch stumbled back to his apartment with a prostitute in tow. She asked him about the pictures on the wall, his obsession. So, Mr. Branch told the hooker all about the Trust, about Graves, about Lono and about how they changed history…in English, so she wouldn’t understand.
After they were through, the stump of a man passed out. The hooker shook her head at him. “You foolish, fat #######.” She took all the money from his wallet and walked out the door. “Ciao.”
The door slamming behind the thief woke Branch up. He looked up from his bed at the picture of the girl on his wall, a beautiful girl with a teardrop tattoo.
“Dizzy, you poor girl. If you understood what Graves has in mind for you, you would have used that gun on yourself.”
1 month later…
This morning, I woke up in a hospital.
“So, Mr. Garret, how you feelin?” the doc says.
“Numb,” I say back.
He chuckles a bit, tells me you can’t feel numb, cause numb means you can’t feel. You can’t feel numb. You can only be numb, he tells me. He goes on, talkin some dopey bull#### about my dressing, about itching, about keepin it dry. But I wasn’t payin attention no more. Funny thing, my brain got locked on those two words.
Be numb.
Be numb.
Be numb.
Like some guru mantra or a ####### irregular heartbeat.
Be numb.
Be numb.
Be numb.
Good advice.

Day One
“Does it hurt?” the bartender asked me.
“What do you think?”
“Must, from the way it looks.”
Looks. Something I’d rather not think about. Mine, I mean. Not that I could be mistaken for any movie star before the acci- before what happened, but all the parts were there. Not top of the line but they got me around. And now? Who knows what kinda scrap heap was hiding under the gauze.
I called my client.
“Hello?”
“Mr. Garrett. What can I do for you?”
“We have an appointment.”
“Nine o’clock.”
“Was wonderin if we couldn’t push it up a bit. I could come by now.”
“I’m not in the office, I’m afraid.”
“So when you gonna be there?”
“Nine. I’ll have your check ready.”
So there I was with time on my hands. After being dry a couple of weeks, three cocktails went down quicker than a boner in a busted rubber. One more might push me over the edge, when where I wanted to be was on it.
I left the bar, glancing into the back seat at what I was chauffeuring. The attaché.

“An you better be here to tell me that after my deductible, I’m covered.”
“Oh? I’m not an insurance agent, Milo. Though once you look over what I’ve got, you’ll find I do have everything covered.”
“That depends what it is you got.”
“It’s good. Interested?”
“Sure. What the hell. Brighten up my day.”
“What happened to you was no accident, but a message.”
“Call me slow on the uptake but I don’t get what making my mug dogfood’s supposed to mean.”
“That’s because the message wasn’t intended for you. Sadly, you’re just the messenger, and a mess of a one at that. But trust me, the message was received.” The old man put a briefcase on the bed. “I’m offering you the chance to get even with the garbage that trashed you. All the evidence you need, it’s in the attaché. So are one hundred bullets, all untraceable, as anonymous and unrecognizable as your face. You’ve got carte blanche.”
“My French is a oui rusty.”
“No law, no cops, no one federal, can investigate. Use that gun and nothing will come back to you.”
“Nothing?”
“Personally, you might get a piece of yourself back.” The old man turned to leave.
“I told you it was good.”
Night One begins now.

Night One
What Graves had given me was good. Real good. Too good.
So naturally, I didn’t buy it. I’d spent too much time, not to mention money, bettin on ponies to believe in a sure thing. Not that the proof in the attaché didn’t add up. It was all there, as plain as the nose that used to be on my face. Who, when and how. The trifecta. But no why, no motive. So no wonder I was thinkin the gift horse had false teeth.
My nine o’clock was Karl Reynolds, an art dealer who sharpened his elbows rubbin them up against the rich and famous. He’d hired me to deliver the location of Monroe Tannenbaum, a less than kosher importer who hadn’t delievered what he promised. Seems Karl had done some promising too an when Monroe skipped on him, he left Karl with egg on his face.
As I walked down the hallway to Karl Reynold’s office, a gorilla in a leather jacket bumped into me. I gave the punk a dirty look but he just smiled and shrugged, the big Cuban cigar hanging out of his mouth. I let it go. Not like me, I know, but I had business.
Finding a weasel like Monroe was not a hard thing. A Ben Franklin to his parole officer pointed me down the right hole. I was on my way to let Karl in on what I’d learned when the world shattered in my face. That was then. Now, I was here to find out why Karl was holding the hammer.
Karl Reynolds is dead. (Alignment: Town)
Turned out someone else had a hammer, too. One that had a trigger, a barrel and some lead along with it, lead he’d poured into Karl Reynolds, which left me still without a face and without a why.

“We want to give you what you want most.”
“You’re only three of the thirteen in the Trust. What I want most, you’re not in a position to give me.”
“There are twelve families now. Daniel Peres is dead.”
“He knows. What he doesn’t, though, is that the house of Medici thought it best for the other families absorb the house of Peres during this difficult transition.”
“The Minutemen wouldn’t have allowed that. Checks and balances. If one family moves against another, the Minutemen move against them. Every pound of flesh is answered for.”
“Augustus persuaded us that the grass would be greener without you.”
“And we think that the Trust needs some yard work.”
“Well without the Minutemen, you’re left to clean up your own yard.”
“Which we intend to do. Twelve families, though. It’s a bad number, even, with no deciding vote.”
“I see. You’re not interested in restoring the house of Peres. One more family needs to go. Simone is weak.”
“Medici is strong, too strong.”
“I’m not interested in having Augustus’ blood on my hands.”
“So keep your hands clean, Graves. After the dust settles and Augustus is buried, we’re prepared to reinstate the Minutemen. We want to give you your job back. That is what you want most…isn’t it?”
____________________________________________
The previously mentioned gorilla had killed one person tonight but he was feeling lucky. Why not try for two? With the Trust all in town, it meant Shepherd was in town and Shepherd would know where to find Graves.
It wasn’t difficult to do.
“Know what I want to do to you?”
“I have an idea.”
“So spill before I do it. Where’s Graves?”
“Lono, I trained you but what’s to say I taught you everything I know?”
“Shepherd, what’s to say I haven’t learned some new, nastier tricks on my own?”
“Why do you want Graves, anyway?”
“####er tried to kill me. If I ever see him again, he’s going to wish he had succeeded.”
“Lono, if Graves wanted you dead, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Anyway, we have other plans for you.”
“We? Whose side are you on, Shepherd?”
“What are my choices?”
“You still work for the Trust?”
“I do.”
“Then you don’t have a choice.”
“Assuming the Trust is one sided.”
“Against Graves? It damn well will be. Count on it. You call it a war but to Graves? It’s a game. That gives him an edge. You can’t win and I mean you personally, Shepherd. However things shake out, you’ll lose…if you don’t die first.”
“That might be, Lono, but there’s a lot of maybes I’m dealing with. Like maybe sooner or later, you’re going to have to pick a side. Or maybe a side will pick you.”
Mbauers has left the game. He was Mr. Shepherd (Alignment: Neutral), man in shadows.
Zyxba has replaced Deathstroke1134

Well, then the mafia can have their frame job because I'm not claiming. I have my reasons so deal with it. We have no less than two people admittedly voting though its a stupid thing to do. That should give the other townies a start if they actually hammer.

I wonder if hes mafia and he doesnt want to fake claim...
Im wondering this myself.
He's said nothing in his own defense at all and won't give up any information. I can't see how anything happens here, but a lynch. If he's town, why doesn't he make any kind of defense claim, or even say he can prove himself in the next writeup. Or anything.
This just screams deflection to me, and I don't see why we would abide it.
This is probably a really newb move on my part but, his unwillingness to claim makes him very suspicious to me so....

my guess is if he is town he might be afraid of a BHer, of which i have seen quite a few of them in the 100 bullets games (and in fact, i have been the victim of a few of them.).
i actually think there is a decent chance he is telling the truth, and since i have a feeling i might be killed tonight, id like to throw out there, that most of the stuff you have said has seemed EXTREMELY scummy to me.
as to the "prove himself in the writeup", if he is town, he is probably vanilla like i am. and thus has no way to do so. of course, pretty much all of the townies are probably vanilla, which is part of the reason why i think you are scummy, because if you were town you would likely assume that. i will particularly think you are scummy if this comes up as a townie lynch.
Dont feel bad man, we gotta go with our guts. When making an omelet, you gotta break a few eggs, and when hunting down the bad men of the world, you break some good skulls. He didn't really give us an option.

This sounds like you knew he was town and set him up. And are trying to set me up now. I didn't realize it was a mostly vanilla game, in all honesty.

i didnt "know" he was town, but when very scummy posters vote on his train, that makes me assume that he is town.

Is CJ hammered? Not sure what to make of him, but I really don't like his reluctance to claim. I learned fairly early on that refusing to claim as town, really only hurts the town if you end up getting lynched anyway...

my guess is if he is town he might be afraid of a BHer, of which i have seen quite a few of them in the 100 bullets games (and in fact, i have been the victim of a few of them.).

"Wha'ya say, Chet?"
"Not much, Milo. Read about what happened to ya."
"Didn' know it made the funny pages."
"Sure did, sweetheart. I woulda sent flowers but you mighta got the wrong idea."
"Well, it is the thought that counts...I think."
"Good you do that still. So tell me what you think about Karl Reynolds."
"I think he's on his way to the morgue."
"Wrongo, pal. He's already there."
"You city detectives work fast."
"Slow than you private dicks, though. Mind tellin how it is you know Reynolds bought the farm?"
"The little ####sucker owed me money."
"You keep talkin like that, you're gonna need a lawyer."
"I'll do my own lyin, if that's okay with you."
"Gimme the truth. All of it."
"Karl Reynolds hired me to do a trace. I told him my terms, said I needed some upfront money. Went to get it last night, found him staring cross eyed. Lucky for me, he wrote the check before he got it in the cross hairs. I took it. I know I shoulda called 911 but I'd be light and right now, money's tight. Accidents ain't cheap, Chet."
"Who was the trace?"
"That's what we were supposed to discuss."
Chet Fargas was one of the last cops that'd give me the time of day. I didn't like givin him a bull#### story about not knowing who I was supposed to track down, mainly because he was a bit of a cowboy and he'd probably recognize the smell. He knew I was hiding somethin besides my face but hoped that by not pushing the matter, I'd be able to dig up something he could use...or bury myself.
"That it?"
"No. By Karl's office, I bumped into this brute goin down the hall as I headed up. Big, dark hair, quiet guy, loud shirt. Smokes expensive cigars." There he was, smellin that bull#### again, only this time, I wasn't lyin. "C'mon, Chet. Is this a face you can trust or what?"
"Cash that check but I may be checkin in on you again."
"I ain't goin nowhere."
"Tell me somethin I don't know."
CoyoteJack has left the game. He was Chet Fargas (Alignment: Town), big city cop.

The mafia's nightkill is going to make this writeup long and some others short.
Night 2
Karl Reynolds had hired me and I’d done my job. He owed me the money, I owed it to his sense of fair play to take it. Somebody else, though, had taken my revenge. I owed it to myself to find out who. Karl had hired me to locate Monroe Tannebaum, a thief who billed himself as an importer of rare and elusive objects. Though he changed hotels on a weekly basis, he never changed his haunts. I found the little prick at his favorite strip club.
“What’s shakin, Monroe?”
“You got eyes ri…do I know you?”
“No. But I know you.”
“I don like the sound of that.”
“You like the sound a one of these?” I flashed him the gun I was still carrying, the one with a hundred untraceable bullets.
“Not really. I got a nervous disorder. Loud noises are bad for my heart. Any sounds you’d like to hear? Just name the tune, friend.”
“Karl Reynolds. Goes like tra la la you double crossed him.”
“The melody you got but the lyrics are all wrong. Look, I don’t know Karl Reynolds from a hole in the head.”
“Interesting choice of words considering he’s dead of that hole you mensioned.”
“I didn do it.”
“Who did?”
“I don know.”
Click Me (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17492)
“That’s art. After I find this painting, some big scary guy comes to me, knows I have it an wants to buy it.”
“Offer you more money than Karl?”
“I said he was big and scary. Had to be workin for somebody else. Didn strike me as a connoisseur of finer things. Even that damn Cuban was more like a knife in his hand than a cigar.”
“Name?”
“Mary Ellen Withrow. Paid in cash so that’s the only name I got.” I moved the gun so that it was pointing at something a little more sensitive than his leg. “Wilford Packing and Moving. Who he sent to pick up the painting. That’s all I know, honest.”
So the next morning, I contacted Wilford Packing and Moving. I told the receptionist that I represented Steve Wynn, big money Vegas and a real player in the art game. She connected me to the president of the company who assured me that his staff was the very best. I got all coy and asked for references. He started to gab about an extensive list of blah blah blah so I cut him off, told him that I knew there was huge turn over in this kinda business and that I wanted references from clients who had had fine art shipped in the last month. He gave me the names. One of them was on Karl Reynolds’ appointment book.
Megan Dietrich, big money in her own right, blonde hair, blue eyes, impressive lungs. I was about to go meet with her when zee knock out of all knock outs walked through zee door.
“Mr. Garrett? Are you available?”
“Honey, I could be blessed with a pair of adorable kids, a white picket fence, a dog that brings me my slippers with the paper and a teenage nymphomaniac for a wife an for you, the answer would still be yes.”
“Pardon?”
“What can I do for you?”
“You are in the business of finding people? I need you to find someone.”
“You got a name and a picture?”
“Both.”
Monroe Tannebaum. Must have slipped my mind to mention that I’d seen him the night before. Didn’t take long to find where he was stayin and with the help of a lockpick, find my way inside. I didn’t have to wait long. The door unlocked and little Miss Megan Dietrich walked in. Funny seeing her here. That gave her two connections to this mystery.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”
I pointed the gun at her pretty face.
“I know who you are, Miss Dietrich. How about you answer that second question first?"
“Mr. Tannebaum asked me to meet him here.”
“Where’d you get the key?”
“I persuaded the man at the front desk I was here to surprise Mr. Tannebaum.”
I took her purse from her and pulled a gun out of it. “This the surprise?”
“Surely you don’t think-”
“I might.”
“Do you mind if I use the toilet?” What the heck. We were three stories up. She wasn’t goin anywhere. She headed in and the scream she let out let me know those lungs weren’t just for show. I rushed to the bathroom door to find Monroe dead, hung with his own belt.
Droppin Sugga is dead. He was Monroe Tannabaum (Alignment: Town), art thief.

Day 3
Augustus Medici sat playing dominos with his friends. Crete, his rather large bodyguard seemed uneasy. He saw them. At least five men in the surrounding area planned to kill his boss. He wished that someone else was here to help protect Augustus. He hated the idea of leaving him exposed. One did what one had to, though.
"Mr. Medici" he told his boss. "Be prepared to run."
"What is it, Crete?"
"There's a problem. I should be able to handle it."
The large bodyguard walked up to a man who was leaning on a nearby fruit stand.
"Excuse me, sir."
"Can I help you, broth-"
The man never finished his sentence. Crete's giant hands wrapped around the man's skull and he slammed in into the sidewalk. The element of surprise gone, he drew a pistol and put a bullet in a man wearing a cowboy hat, sitting on a nearby bench. The man's own gun fell to the ground, confirming Crete's suspicions.
The remaining three assassins jumped in their car but Crete fired off a few shots at the driver and one hit home. The car spun out of control and ran into a lamp post. Crete ran to the wreckage much faster than you'd expect from someone his size, opened the door and gunned down the other two.
He wiped the sweat from his brow and headed back to where his boss was waiting.
"Who were they?"
"I don't know but they were here for you."
"And they weren't working for Graves?"
"They weren't Minutemen."
"There are no Minutemen anymore, Crete."
"They weren't former Minutemen, sir."
Augustus considered this for a moment. Someone wanted him dead and he could think of only eleven people who would benefit.
In a few hours, three of those people would not hear back from the men they hired.
Morpheusdr3am3r is out of the game. He was Javier Vasco, Fulvio Carlito and Helena Kotias (Alignment: Neutral/Trust), thieves without honor.

Night 3
We left Monroe hanging. Figured the cops would take care of it when they found him. So Megan, the blonde with killer legs, and I went to a diner to discuss her killer sensibilities.
“His name is Lono. He’s vicious, cruel.”
“Takes one to know one.”
“Oh. You two are friends. My mistake. At one time, Lono worked for my family. His job was to…take care of what needed to be taken care of.”
“Must be comforting to be able to afford something like that.”
“It’s nerve racking. More like being a lion tamer, cracking a whip to have an animal jump through a hoop when it could more easily turn and rip your head off. Anyway, there came a point when the lion’s services were no longer required. Then, a week ago, the phone rang. It was Lono and he had something I wanted.”
“The painting.”
“And the whip in his jaws.”
“How expensive was the hoop he made you jump through?”
“Very. After I bought the painting from Lono, an art dealer named Karl Reynolds came by my office. I had hired him to find the painting for me. He said that if I didn’t give him the amount we’d originally agreed upon, he’d go to the former owner with what he knew. I laughed in his face, of course. I’m not in the habit of paying for something twice. That night Lono called, said the joke was on me and that I’d die laughing. He told me his new employer would be getting in touch with me.”
“The painting’s former owner.”
“For a short time. Earlier today, I received a telegram from Monroe Tannebaum, requesting I meet him at his hotel. Seems Karl Reynolds was dead and Monroe wanted to set up a “charitable organization” in his name. He expected that I would be a very generous donor.”
“And Monroe’s dead, too. That makes Lono greedy.”
“One of his more pleasant attributes.”
“One we can count on. What happened to Monroe, you were supposed to see it. I wasn’t. So I’m your hole card. He’s going to call you and set up a meeting.” I wrote my number on a piece of paper for her, along with a fake name.
“Mr. Lewis….why are you helping me?”
“Maybe I can’t help myself.”
______________________________________________________
Benito went to find his father and Crete, knowing the game would soon be over and he’d need a ride back. The entire place was a mess with a wrecked car and several dead bodies. Crete’s sleeves were covered in blood.
“Move” Crete yelled, pointing his pistol in his direction.
Benito turned around to see a wounded man aim a gun at him. BLAM! The man died instantly, falling forward and knocking Benito to the ground. Crete quickly helped him to his feet as his father’s car screeched to a halt nearby. The door flew open.
“Benito!” His father yelled. “Get in the car!”
Benito and Crete jumped into the back seat and the car took off.
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry about your game.”
“What? Don’t worry about-“
“Dad…maybe when we get home, you can teach me how to play.”

DarqFeonix has left the game. He was Benito Medici (Alignment: Neutral), heir to the throne.

Once again, I’d have to wait until the next day to get something done. That meant that the only something to do was drink.
“How you doin tonight, Milo?”

“See if this’ll sway them.” He handed me a glass and I made short work of it. “Well? They still hung?”
“News gets around…”
“Can’t keep everything under wraps.”

“Agent Graves.”
“Wrong. I’m in business for myself.”
“Now you are. Karl Reynolds is dead. Graves is concerned you may be getting in deep, over your head. Thinks you might need a hand. Thinks you may wind up-“
“On top?” I grabbed the punk by his collar. “Tell im I’m getting to the bottom of this. Tell im Karl was the tip of the iceberg. Tell im I’ll handle this alone.”
“Suit.” I let go of it. “Yourself. Milo? A bit of advice? Keep your right up. Or they’ll be nothing left of you.”

I hammer a trust member with barely any time to spare, while randomly checking the thread during a break at work, and you think I'm suspicious? And bring me to within 1 vote, again while I'm at work? I'm glad I decided to check the thread today with my free time. It's also funny that you said you think I'm suspicious, zyxba considering I was thinking the same thing about you for trying to get kness to claim over some bs.
Am I suspicious because I was right about coyote, or because I hammered a trust? If I wasn't posting from my phone, there would have been an eyeroll face there. I'm a vanilla townie, and I'm not claiming for the same reason coyote didn't. Try pressuring someone who didn't vote on the trust lynch, man. I'll even throw my vote in
Hey, I'm at work with a bit of free time too.
Is the trust the mafia? They're all coming up neutral. Is it really in our best interest to lynch them? Also, coyote didn't give a name, and he got lynched for it. Perhaps claiming a name is your best bet? I have you pegged as either lono or Milo.
Quick check shows that toughestonethereis and Rico both didn't vote for morph. Iirc sl was going to but then I hammered.
Randomly choosing..... Twti
cause off the top of my head I can't really remember him saying much at all. Wow, that wasn't too difficult. Can. I get back to work now? Insert laugh face here

The trust has so far always been against the town.
I am not lono nor Milo. I can see wanting to lynch lono, but why would you want to lynch Milo?
If you want to lynch me for not saying my name, it shouldn't be two hard, cause I'm guessing at least one of Rico or Twti are mafia. But every time I even hint a rc in these games, I am promptly killed. So if you didn't learn your lesson with cj, that's on you. In a game like this, where most people are vanilla, but where there always seem to be bhers, you can't always assume reluctance to name claim as a sign of guilt. Sometimes you have to do something crazy, like looking at the voting record. Eyeroll

I guess were not getting anything done and DB is not gonna claim... Ridiculous...
You have my vote on Twti. If all the people voting for me switch to him, you have enough. I will gladly claim after Twti, rico, and zyx all claim, so I have a better chance to sniff out a possible bher. But if your only reason for pressuring me is some weird kind of hunch (because I certainly wasn't tracked or copped), you might as well actually pressure someone based on something logical, like voting record. I wonder how many townies need to be lynched before people realize that random pressure demanding a name claim is a bad idea in this type of game.
It's a pain in the ### to go back and check on my phone, but I would bet anything that at least one, maybe both of Twti and Rico DID vote for cj, and DIDN'T vote for morph

Day 4
The run in with Graves' boy had put me in a foul mood. I made a living butting into people's lives and didn't like it when an ### showed up in mine. In the morning, I contacted Megan. Lono had done what I thought he'd do: set up a meeting with her. So I showed up in her pretty place.
I sat down in front of Lono, ordered a coffee. He took one look at me and decided it was time to leave. I flashed him my gun and pointed to the seat. He sat back down, gave me a big smile and flashed both of his guns. He pointed at the guy sitting next to him and then to the guy on his other side. Then he pointed to the guy sitting next to me. Three kids walked in the door, he pointed his finger at each of them, closing one eye and taking aim. He had me beat.
The waitress came up to me and offered a refill. I pushed her out of the way but Lono was already gone. I ran outside but there was no trace of the killer.
I'd ####ed up. Even a dumb ape like that can put two and two together, which usually adds up to six feet under for the double crosser....who wasn't returning my calls. Waiting for the phone to ring, I poured fuel on the fire and by the time the moon came up? I was houling drunk and pissed, mostly at myself. I knew for damn sure who Lono was pissed at, too.
The day was shot to hell. I hoped to God Megan wasn't.
No majority was reached. Night 4 starts now.

“Why isn’t she here?"
“She wanted to go home.”
“So you let her?”
“So I put her in a cab.”

Dizzy left her friends and went to find the cop, the one who ruined her life. Every day, she looked in the mirror and the tattoo on her face reminded her of the husband and son that left her behind and of the man responsible.
She approached his door and knocked hard. When it opened, the cop found himself staring down the barrel of a gun and Dizzy found herself staring at a man at the bottom of a bottle.
___________________________________________
“She’s too young.”
“Pity age has nothing to do with experience. You’re fond of her.”
“I am.”
“Have the two of you…”
“Nothing like that.”
“But you have feelings.”
“I just don’t want to see her…”
“Dead?”

The drunken cop tried to go for his gun but Dizzy kicked him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
“You killed my husband.” She kicked him again, causing him to throw up all over the floor. “You killed my son.” She put her boot on the back of the cop’s head, forcing him to lay face down in his own vomit.

“You have a problem, sir?” the guard asked. I got the impression he wasn’t going to help me solve it.
“You bet I do and so does your master. Go fetch her, Fido.”
“I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.”
“So ask.”
He opened the gate and he was out cold before he knew what hit him. Two more hits for the guys by the door. Of course, I hadn’t really planned on the other four all armed with uzis. Luckily, by then I was inside and Megan was able to call off her watch dogs.
“Why you been avoidin me?”
“I’ve had more pressing matters to attend to.” She glanced over at some of her guests. They looked like powerful people. I couldn’t care less. Then the painting caught my eye.
“That it?” She nodded. “I’ve never seen no picture worth dying for.”
“Then you should.”

Zyxba, what did you do last night?
I'll tell you mine, if you tell me yours.

Well I'd like for everyone to check in to see if someone has something. It just seems like some people are not even playing this game though...
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. It's generally pretty quiet. It doesn't help that no one is willing to claim, ever.
1) K-Ness
2) Zyxba (formerly Deathstroke1134)
4) Silver Lantern
5) Toughest One There Is
6) Ricosan95
7) Velius
Rico has certainly been silent. K-Ness and Veilus definitely haven't been their bubbly selves. T1TI has been in and out. You and I are pretty much the only ones in a normal pattern.

You'd think if Rico was inactive he'd been replaced by now...

I've been participating more than most in this game. It's hard to contribute more than a vote when you have nothing more that a vote to contribute, though.

Ditto this
Well, we're getting nothing done.
So Silver asks zyxba a question. zyxba proves he's just as willing to help as the last few people (as in not at all).
Then zyxba tries to cast suspicion elsewhere. See where I'm going with this?
Vote: zyxba
Why don't you answer Silver's question zyxba?
Because I have a power, and he has a power. I'm not outing myself without him claiming too.
That being said, I have no problem claiming, should he do so.

Look! It's like the last few day phases!
So two of you have night actions. Silver has you down as doing something. You want him to claim when he calls you out on it. You've played mafia long enough to know what this is like.
vote K-Ness the pushiness is seeming like a tell here.

You're totally not helping your case here. Someone catches you doing something and wants to know what. You refuse to offer any answers and instead start pointing fingers at others. When someone starts to initiate pressure on you, you still don't offer any information, continue to point fingers, and then vote?!
I've already told you I'm vanilla. YOU, however, have a power. This far into the game with everything that has happened this phase, you're not doing yourself any favors to convince me that you're town.. especially since you started the vote on d yesterday.
Yeah, not buying it. You're either Lono or his boss. You've been shady all game, and this is just your endgame strategy.
I'm neither. I'm also not the one with something to hide.

Zyxba, why do you need me to out anything? I merely asked what you did last night, and your answer seems pretty evasive.
Did you do something last night, and if so, what did you do and whom did you do it to?
Your refusal to answer that makes it seem like you're afraid of being caught in a lie. Townies don't play with fear, I'll let you guess who does...

I'm a town tracker.

i think your agressiveness in going after claims is a scummo tactic to keep suspicion away from yourself. if you already claimed when i was dead, my bad, just lemme know.
Welcome back, d!
So we have zyxba claiming as a tracker, and Silver pressuring zyxba for an action, which means it's uncertain exactly what Silver has on zyxba.
zyxba admits to targeting someone, that someone being dbauers (who was killed last night).
I'll avoid metagaming with my next thought, so on to the final thought:
My most pressing question: Silver, what made you want to call out zyxba?
Vote silver lantern
How it works is I get hints, even if I target a vanilla. So I at least have somewhere to look. I haven't found anything of true value or I'd have already shared with the class.
The only thing relevant is one of the mafia guys targeted the other the night they both left.
So I'm guessing that was a bounty hunt leaving...
How bouts some dual pressure.

so by my count thats two on SL and two on Zxyba.

You realize that dbauers version 1 claimed to be a vanilla townie, and autopsied as town, right? And he apparently wasn't a NKer, even if he was lying about being vanilla, given the fact that you say he targeted darq night 2 and darq was still alive after that. So why would he forego an action night 4? Cause he was maybe telling the truth about being vanilla, and you are making up all of your info? I doubt you were misdirected multiple times in a mostly vanilla game.

Or Night 4 he got "Nobody" because of getting an accurate result on a Vanilla?
Could someone bring me up to speed with a synopsis, please?
Then that would make his night 2 results on said vanilla person kind of messed up, wouldn't it? Not to mention him admitting to targeting db 1.0 the night I died

Hints of what? If you're getting another user name, what does even imply?
Who they would target if they weren't vanilla. So it tells me they're related characters.

Who can you possibly know who they would target that doesn't even make any sense...
Characterwise, who they'd be interested in. It's not really that hard of a concept guys.

It's not the concept that I can't grasp... It's the reason why it would matter. We can't target people anyway since we are vanilla.

Day 5
I'm sitting in my car, running from a painting, trying to forget a word.
An this word, it's trying to make me remember. Something about a someone slipping me a mickey that slipped my mind. So I'm pouring champagne on top of a belly full of bourbon, which pounds on my skull but that's the point: to beat the word.
Or the word'll beat me.
Then I remember something my mother used to tell me. Funny how flying at a buck twenty, she's suddenly riding shotgun, giving me hope. I take another swig as my car bounces off a guard rail. She says "sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never hurt you." Given the choice, I opt for the sticks and stones. I t-bone the rail and suddenly, there's no ground beneath my wheels.
Thanks, mom.
A long time ago...

"That's always been your problem, Milo. You don't like much of anything."
"We could really get burned on this play."
"Just hang back here. It may get a little hot but you'll be fine."
"You don think this could blow up in our faces?"
"Let's cut the fire metaphors an relax, okay?" Cole lit his cigarette. "Trust the old man."
Zyxba has left the game but he is not dead. He was Milo Garret (Alignment: Town/Graves), counterfeit detective.

(Note: I could write the entire dialogue of this issue and it wouldn’t do it justice. If you like 100 Bullets, pick up issue 27, which is also contained in the forth trade. It’s a one shot story and by far my favorite of them and you can buy a digital version for 2 bucks on DC's site.)
Night 5
Graves walked alone. He was waiting to hear back from his Wolf. Hopefully, Cole would bring Milo with him. He passed by a hospital, the same hospital where he had found Milo and it was there that someone found him. He was even older than Graves but he still had some life in him, however reluctant.
“Excuse me. Do you remember who I am?”
Graves smiled.
“Thirteen time all-star, three time MVP, two time batting champ. Had to be that unorthodox stance of yours, got around on those fast balls like some bush leaguer kid was tossing you batting practice. Your consecutive game hitting streak, which stands to this day and likely forever, may be the greatest sports achievement of all time. Of course I remember you. After all, you were my hero.”
“That’s not what I meant. Do you remember what you gave me…Agent Graves?”
“This isn’t about what I gave you…is it? What you did. That’s what this is about.”
“…Yes. Most people call it a tragedy.”
“What about you? What about what he did? What do you call that?”
“Murder.”
“What I gave you…there were many ways you could have used it.”
“You gave me a gun.”
“And you had your reasons for using it the way you did that I don’t pretend to know.”
“But what happened…his death affected the entire world.”
“Don’t concern yourself with the big picture because the answer to your question is right here.” Graves pointed to the ball player’s heart. “In the details.”
Velius is out of the game. He was Joe DiMaggio, (Alignment: Town, Graves) man who changed history, perhaps twice.

Endgame
I woke up late the next afternoon, my head feeling like it had been split in two, which it had. I didn’t know what I was thinkin. Literally. It was like goin into a bar the night after spendin the previous day there putting on one serious hell of a drunk. The regulars tellin me what I did, who I pissed off. Me not recallin any of it but knowin damn well every story was true.
My car was totaled. Luckily, there was another waiting for me.
“Hello Mr. Garret. Can I offer you a ride?”
I got in.
“How’s the case?”
“Which one you mean? The one I’m working on…or the one full of bullets you gave me.”
“Funny how it turned out they’re connected.”
“They are? Well I’ll be damned…if we do or if we don’t and “we” won’t. I’m gonna crack my case. Sorry if that busts your balls.”
“You like your line of work, don’t you?”
“It beats diggin Graves."
“Milo…a few years ago, you were arrested. What for?”
Click Me (http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=216&pictureid=17858)
I got into the office to find the phone ringing.
“Mr. Garret? It’s Echo.”
“Echo?”
“Echo Memoria. I hired you to-“
“Find Tannebaum. Yeah, about that. You might want to hire-“
“An undertaker? Thank you for tracking him down for me but I’m afraid your services won’t be needed any longer.”
She hung up. I was confused but I had someone more important to talk to.
“Megan? It’s-“
“I know who you are. My home invaded, my men slaughtered, my painting vanished. You got me good. I hope you’re proud of yourself. I know who you are, Milo. And I know who your friends are.” Click.
Dbauers has left the game. He was Megan Dietrich (Alignment: Town/Trust), woman so heartless.
“I know who you are.” Hearing that seemed like some dirty little secret everyone was in on but me. I know who I am. I know who I was. I took off the bandages and looked at the stranger in the mirror. “So who are you?”
Truth be told, I was pretty sure I didn’t want to know. I’d have to forget. I’d forget Megan, Lono, Graves, Burns, all of em. And part of me.
Rokk Krinn is out of the game. He was Cole Burns (Alignment: Town/Graves), Wolf in a suit.
It had to be that way if I wanted to stay who I am. Who I am is Milo Garrett. I’m a private eye. I live case to case. Once in awhile, that’s enough to pay the bills. I drink too much and tip too little. I got a smart mouth and the stones to back it up. I kick ### an chase tail. I got acquaintances, not friends. I like who I am. I love bein me. If the only way I could keep being me was to put the bandages back on, then I had no other choice.
And me still hadn’t cracked his case. Not to mention I had run out of loose ends.
“#### me with a ten foot pole…”
“I got one.” One kick from the killer outside my door and the door came down. “But I don’t swing that way.”
“You ####in me?”
“Nah” he grinned. “Shootin you. You might want to hurry up and say your prayers.”
“Yeah well I just might me a minute…man.”
I swung, nailing the big ape in the face but not hard enough to do any real damage. He wiped the blood from his mouth, pointed the gun at mine and fired, which is just what I wanted. I was rooked into being a pawn in a game I didn’t want to play so I cheated. And as the butt of Lono’s gun hammered into what was left of my face again and again, I realized that you can’t cheat a cheater and that’s what life is, the dirtiest cheater of all.
This morning I woke up in a hospital. “So Mr. Garret, how you feelin?” the doc says. “Numb” I say back. He chuckles a bit, tells me you can’t feel numb because being numb means you can’t feel. You can’t feel numb, you can only be numb, he tells me. Funny thing, my mind got locked on those two words.
“Be numb.”
“Be numb.”
“Be numb.”
Milo Garret is dead. He was the B######, former Minuteman and nobody’s fool, not even mine.
Silver Lantern and K-Ness have won the game. They were Lono, bad Dog and Echo Memoria, good thief. Alignment: Mafia.

I appreciate you and Dbauers stepping in, even so close to the end. The mafia won anyways but they had to get someone lynched and then they had to kill someone Rokk wouldn't protect.
With two townies essentially abandoning the game, the mafia was just going to walk to victory. As is, things were more interesting. I probably should have replaced both Rico and Toughest earlier.
Town roles:
Milo - He was a tracker. However, since so many players were vanilla, if he targeted a vanilla player, he'd instead learn the name of a player associated with them...or a random name or be told they targeted nobody. He was aware of this.
Cole - Doctor but he couldn't target the same player twice in a row.
All others vanilla.
Mafia roles:
Lono - Hitman.
Echo - Same as Milo only with a higher chance to just get randomized targets.
Neutral roles:
Vasco, Carlito and Kotias - Had a one shot night kill. Won the game if Augustus Medici died.
Augustus and Benito - Neutral survivors that were told they should try to win with the town (for Megan, Dizzy and game balance) and they would leave the game if the other died.
Shepherd - Had a one shot PGO maker and a one shot nightkill that would both only work on someone trying to kill Augustus. He won if he could eliminate the ones out to kill Augustus but would leave the game with a loss if Augustus, Benito or Dizzy left the game.

I figured Silver and I were done for when the phase was extended while you looked for a replacement. But then zyxba, who had already dug a sizable grave for himself, made it even worse with his target listing.
I suspected the doctor was still in the game, but I couldn't be certain. I didn't want to be mean to Rokk, and Velius was playing a bit more shady than dbauers had been, so I gambled that he was the safer bet of the two.
Man, I knew you guys were mafia, but just couldn't prove it at all. Stupid truth.
