How do we handle the draft? Is it a live one or we get to pick whenever we get the chance to do so? You know my timezone is very far from yours so it might be difficult to be online at the same time you all are...

If there's a choice I'd prefer ESPN as that's where my other leagues are at. If not NFL is fine as I've played on it before.

You see, I have no real knowledge of NFL players, how they performed last season, how many times they were used as a first stringer, etc etc. All I know is what I get from their ratings in Xbox's Madden 11. I know what are my favourite players for every position, but I can't give you a list to work out with. I already signed in at NFL.com for a live draft and I always go with the flow. I set my mind for a position on a specific round and I get a player I know well from the xbox game. That can be done if I'm drafting live with you. If I'm not, it'll be hard to decide what to draft in each round, cause I don't know what was already picked...

Still, keep me signed in and maybe I can get a chance to draft at the same time as you will. Who knows?

Any ideas when you're starting it?

HATE the NFL site.

I like ESPN and Yahoo for free leagues. They are both incredibly user friendly and cheap with options for individuals to upgrade their league site capabilities on their own so there is no leaguewide join fee.

my other thought is to partner you with someone to get you started. Ice has a lot of FF knowledge so he can help out too. and most of the time the best players on the Xbox are the best in real life too you just have to compete with the other teams to get them

Well if we can get 4-5 more players. We can set up a espn league and an NFL.com league to test it out.

Also would anyone be interested in a money suicide league? This would be a buy in league where you pick one game each week win or lose, you win you move on you lose you are out (there maybe a one time re-buy in) you can only pick a team once. So for example if you pick the patriots in week 2 you cannot pick them the rest of the season. If the Pats win you play again next week if they lose you are out.

Yeah, the "alt league" ran it last year. Reactions were... mixed. But I thought it went well, overall.

If we can get enough for two leagues, I wouldn't mind doing the "snake" and "auction" in each like we did last year. (And heck, I wouldn't mind playing in both.)

I don't think I was in the auction league... what didn't people like about it? Pretty much everyone I've known that's done it has really liked it.

I think the auction draft is really good for online drafts where people can't get to. For my inperson draft we just did a normal draft and I liked it. I don't think auction would be that great in person, but who knows. So I would say I vote for an auction draft again for this.

I was in the alt league, and that was my first year, if that matters.

I am interested in playing. I used to run free custom ESPN leagues before I went to school.

I would prefer a snake draft, random draft order.

Also, I would be interested to know what rules tweaks you might enact. I used to limit teams to 6 RBs maximum and I had a 1-player injured reserve. Also, I had a flex position where any offensive player could be put, and I had individual defensive players. Each team had 1 DE, 1 LB, 1 CB, & 1 S, in addition to a D/ST.

To be fair, after the last few years in Carolina, Fox almost had to be obsessed with the run. It may just be a carry-over from that. :p

not much I have been slammed with back to school Kuk Sool testing and now Soccer. I hope to have a hour or two this week to set everything down and finalize it. I hadn't planned on change much from last year I need to set a draft date for both leagues as well. Give me till monday and I'll have it sorted out.

What exactly is an auction draft?
You start off with a certain amount of "money". Players come up at random or by suggestion (I forget which, I missed my auction last year). Everybody places a bid on the player and highest bid wins. If you look around the web and search Fantasy Auction draft, you'll see different SRP for different players. It's basically what the website 'values' the player being worth to a team.

Auction it's not random, you actually have a set order which you "pick" a player, but instead of getting that player automatically you bid $1 on that player. Then it opens that player up to everyone else to bid on. If nobody bids within like 10 seconds of the last bid placed you win that player. It's pretty interesting strategy, like who you want to put up on the block at what time.


Edit: At least the one I was in last year was that way. That's the only one I've ever done, so I guess it could work different in other rules.

You should give the auction draft a try some time. I did it for the first time last year (after doing snake drafts for several years) and I like it a lot better. It just seems more fun and you can get any player you want as long as you're willing to spend the cash on him. In all the snake drafts I've done I've NEVER had the first pick... and I usually get like 7th which in my opinion is the worst because you end up in that weird spot where the top tier RBs are gone and so do you take a QB? A WR? Then you risk there being even fewer RBs when it gets back to you.

I got the 10th (last) pick in my snake draft this year and felt it was the best spot to pick in. Getting 2 picks back to back throughout the draft was awesome. Chris Johnson also fell to number 10 so I guess that helped. I still have confidence he'll sign, but it's not a huge waste if he holds out even just a couple games. Whole season would suck, but I couldn't pass on him. I took CJ and Mendenhall with my first two picks.

$200 usually. I dunno what to recommend. I think it's generally the same as other drafts as far as strategy. You want to spend the majority of your big $ on the top players. But you have to have a full roster, so the system will force you to keep at least $1 per spot.

$200 is the norm. As far as how much to spend that's completely up to you and is what makes the auction so fun. With a $200 budget and 15 roster spots you could spend a maximum of $186 on one player (leaving $1 each for every other slot). Not that that happens but I have seen people spend $50, $60, even $70 on one player.

If you're going to actually be at the draft then no. It uses the default values unless you change them but if you're actually in the draft you can just not bid on players that you have no interest in. It really is like an eBay auction except you can't snipe people. If you bid with less than 10 seconds left, it resets to 10 seconds. I constantly see people waiting until 1 second left and then upping the bid as if they're going to win at the last second... doesn't work that way.

Yes, I've done that already. I knew my timezone would screw me, so I had to set up my preferences.

I think it will do that.

It looks to me like there are two options - if you go to the league site and click on your team, there is an option to set your desired picks ahead of time, and there is also an option to set how you want it to draft (or that's how it looks, anyway.) :ermm:

I've done that already. That's why I said the autopick won't allow me to pick a player out of my set preferences. Only if I was there "in person" I could do it.

But that's ok. I'll let the computer draft the whole thing. Maybe I can get a surprise or two with its picks! :)

You rank the QB ahead of those WR's on your Overall board and it most certainly will grab that QB for you in the 5th instead of some crappy WR.

Pick 1 doesn't usually win the leagues though. Fine, #1 pick, but your team might be less solid cause you wait to grab your next two picks. Ive won leagues from 6 different spots.

Yeah, and it's a little more thought into the drafting process than with a snake. Really, Auctions go quick once the top tier players are gone.

Top heavy is very risky... the autodrafter did that to me last year, and I went 4-10 in that league.

Not sure how I feel about the team. It's all or nothing with Vick really. I'll wait until after the first couple of weeks before I decide if it was a good choice though. I keep hearing "Look at how awful they are doing in preseason" - I'm a tad skeptical, but I'm not writing anyone off based on the preaseason. Plus I didn't get Vick in either of my $ leagues, so I wanted to get him hahaha. I think I spent $55 on him. Prob could of just went with Kolb for $1 and spent the other $44 on running back. Oops.

Honestly, I don't know about spending that much on Vick because... with the O-Line that the Eagles have shown to date (and even last year to a degree), there's no real guarantee that Vick will play all 16 games. And if he doesn't, well, you're screwed.

Of course, if he does, you'll probably get your money's worth out of him. :)

I got Kobb. He's not proven yet, but I got a starting QB for $1 who also has a big upside, and a monster receiver who is going to catch passes.

To me Vick isn't a QB that you are screwed when he misses a few games - his scoring is so huge that if you can ride out the couple games he misses with your backup it should be fine. From most people I've talked to, whoever got Vick last year won their league most of the time.

At the same time, he could break a leg and be out for the year, but anybody could.

I tried to bid as close as I could to if we were playing for real life $ - but I can't say I'd of spent $55 or whatever on Vick in a real $ pool. I guess it just depends. But in a friendly-ish league like this there is a little more room to bid higher.

I know in my two $ leagues he went 3rd and 4th picks in snake draft. Anyone else see him going that high? I guess you kind of just put almost all your bet on one player. He's big risk, but big reward seems like. I was surprised that he was going that high considering the pre-season, considering the same league where someone took Vick 3rd I got Chris Johnson 10th. So it's like the before the season stuff applied to CJ but not to Vick somehow.

Your bench players do not count towards your total. You'll be able to see what points they score but those points are not factored into your score versus your opponent. So when that guy on your bench blows up and scores 30 while the guy you played instead got a big goose egg, you'll be able to see how bad your team management skills are.

Players lock at their game times. So this week, the Saints and Green Bay play on Thursday. All those players will lock at 8:30 Thursday. So if you have one of those players on your bench, you will not be able to move them into your lineup after tonight. Conversely, Oakland/Denver, New England/Miami play on Monday so those players don't lock until those games start. This can put you in a bind say if you have a good player that doesn't play until Monday but are unsure if he will play or not. If you wait and it turns out he's out, your options are limited as you would only be able to put in someone else from the teams that play on Monday.

Yea you just have to wait in the waiver order. I'm not 100% on how the waiver order works, but I believe it's every 24 hours moves are completed in order that a person is on the waiver, and I believe it's swings back and fourth. So if you were 1 out of 10 on the wire, then the next day you would be 10th out of 10. But don't quote me on that because I'm not sure.

Actually it might go by your record too. If you are 0-1 you get first order on the waiver, if you are 1-0 record you get last. I think. I have no clue. Ask Iceman he knows his #### for sure he gives me tips all the time.

The only time you may think extra hard about making a waiver move is if you think you are going to need to be early in the wire the next week, because I believe if you don't make a move one week you relatively get to pick earlier the next week. I think. Again not fully sure.

But in most leagues you can make as many moves as you want. That's like more then half the fun, having to make moves, trying to find hidden gems, adjusting your team at certain points of the season based on matchup, and dropping someone at the right time.

Waivers are done differently depending on the league. I believe (but can't verify since I'm at work) that the waiver order is determined by the inverse of the standings. So the team w/ the worst record has highest priority. So let's say you have the best record and I have the worst record but during Sunday's game your star running back blows out his knee. Now his promising backup is a hot commodity. We both put in claims for said player. I would get him because I have a higher priority and your claim would be canceled.

I think there are some leagues that have free agent budgets and each week you put in a bid for a player you want. Whoever has the highest bid gets him. I've never played in a league like that but to me it seems like a fun idea and adds a little more strategy to picking up players.

I don't know about Auction Leagues exactly, but I know a lot about Waivers.

Players will lock from Sunday to Tuesday or Wednesday in most leagues.

After Tuesday or Wednesday all the players locked up by waivers will become Free Agents.

The Waiver order will establish itself in reverse draft order.

Then the Waiver wire will continually roll throughout the season.

Meaning:

IF Kruegger and Jarimy both want DeMarco Murray after he has a good game for the Cowboys they will both put in a Waiver request for him. Let's say that Kruegger is 3rd in the waiver order and Jarimy is 5th. Kruegger will get DeMarco and then move to the back of the Waiver Wire (12th in a 12 team league). Jarimy will NOT get DeMarco but will move up the wire and have a better shot at a player the next week.

Now. Let's say Jarimy also had his eyes on Jordan Shipley after a nice game, but thought that no one else would put a waiver in for him. So he didn't. He gambles and waits until Waiver players unlock and become Free Agents....and it works. Then he picks up Jordan Shipley while keeping his waiver spot.

Best thing I can tell you dude - if there is someone you want to try and get off waivers/free agent, just go for it. If you pick them up, cool, if not it just means someone else did before you. You can't do anything to change whether you would of gotten said player or not, this league doesn't have $ riding on it, and we are both noobs at FF - so needing to think like weeks ahead about the waiver order isn't really needed for us cats.

Agreed!!! Amazing game! Only a game like that would keep me awake until 4.30 am here in Portugal!

The Pack is looking amazing offensively (like they did in last year's playoffs games - the only ones I saw) and they're a force to be reckoned. I never saw Brees play before and he did surprised me a lot. The guy thinks very fast and even with all the pressure he got his way he did remain calm and often found a way out of it, with great middle-long passes. Great QB.

I found my new favourite NFL player, at least on the QB position: Tom Brady! I've never seen a QB play like that! An absolute game machine, changing plays on the fly and with nerves of steel, always finding a way out of every situation.

All of that in no huddle situations, meaning the guy has extremely fast thinking and resources up his sleeve. Absolutely amazing!

I won my game in League 1. I'm the Somerset Supermen and managed to get 168 to score the most in the league. That's with me leaving Adrian Foster in who didn't play. I checked it early in the morning and he was questionable. I had intended to check it again before the 1:00 kick off and would have replaced him with Mike Tolbert. Had I done that, I'd have scored over 200 points!

Lost to Suga in the Ogre League and then won in my work league (beating my brother) and lost in another league. So I went 2-2 which I'm happy with.

And I noticed that for Week 2, Ice and I have a bye. Why do we have a bye on Week 2 in a league with an even number of teams?

everyone may have a bye weeks to make sure that based on the number of teams everyone will play everyone the same amount of times while still keeping the playoffs starting week 15

Ok so I'm still sort of new at fantasy football, last year was my first year playing. I was told, and read stuff, about how running backs are the bread and butter of fantasy football. Gotta take a running back first, gotta get a stud running back. But from everything I have seen over the last couple of years, the league has kind of changed. QB's are putting up massive passing yards and TDs, and WR are getting tons of yards.

Last year and this year I took RB first pick, but last year almost everyone I saw had a QB who was putting up 30+ fantasy points a game are the people who were winning leagues.

Just throwing it out there. A guy in one of my money leagues took Tom Brady with the #1 overall pick. Not too sure that was the greatest pick, but it could end up being. My running backs are always so damn sporatic.

Anyway, I'm sure as the season goes on we will see less 300-400+ yard games being thrown, but RBs didn't do much outside of Ray Rice I think. I do have him and he was beast mode. But my other 2 RBs netted me jack, and one was Chris Johnson.

As for the Bye issue, it's going on in other leagues on there too, so it's probably just a glitch in the system. If you look at the schedule, it shows two of the teams don't even play for the next five or six weeks, then almost the whole league is in a Bye. Weird.:cheeky:

Wow what a crazy weekend for football all around, but fantasy has been driving me mad!

Hahahaha. I have my 1 money league pretty much locked. I have 118 points he has 88.5 with the Giant defense left. So unless something goes horribly wrong I should win.

My other money league i'm down 131 to 128 and I have the Rams kicker left. I have to believe I can get 4 points out of him. I actually stayed up and watched the Eagles/Falcons game. That has to be one of the best awful games I've ever seen. Falcons couldn't get out of their own way, Eagles defense looks ridiculous, and they pull out the win. Crazy. The guy I'm playing against has Vick and Turner. I have Maclin. I put Maclin in over another player hoping to weather the Vick storm somewhat. It ended up possibly winning me the game! Maclin scores 29, not all of it to Vick, but I get more points for receiving then he does for passing! Brilliant! Hahahaha not really I just got lucky that Vick bit his tongue and left the game.

The ebbs and flows of fantasy football is INSANE! I'm feeling great about my teams though. Last week I scored awful, this week my good players seem to be coming on.

I also do a picks league for $. Each week you just pick each game. Last week I went 11-5, this week I am 12-3 so far. So I should remain in first for the 2nd week in a row, but only thing that matters is late season where I'm at!

Yeah that happens to me all the time although I don't play in any money leagues. I've played in money leagues before and it just got too stressful and too serious. People get pretty hostile when there's money on the line.

Anyways so far I'm 8-2 across 5 leagues and my 2 losses are the same team which has lost 2 games by 1 point each. This week it looks like they'll finally lose by more than 1 point which for some reason makes me feel better. I'm leading in my other 4 games but it's going to be close in a couple of them.
