View Full Version : Good Phoenix Teams?

Hey, I finally got my Phoenix in the mail a couple days ago, and I've used her in a few home games, however I want to know if anyone has come up with some sort of strategy or game plan for her.
I'd preferably like to keep the team she's on all X-Men, so if someone could form together some X-Men team (400pts or under) for me, that'd be great!

Having seen Phoenix in action now, I can't really give any strong advice on how to use her most effectively. But here are some suggestions based on my observations....
Her range is her strongest asset. While she's not the powerhouse that Mandarin is at a distance of 12, she's still able to poke Toughness and less characters from TWELVE squares away. Add in a Con Artist or two and she can raise damage or distance to annoy your opponent and finish off a few characters before they have a chance to move far from their starting location (if your themed team will allow generics like that). Alternatively, team her up with Rookie or Experienced Psylocke and you've got ~100 points of keep-away potshotting.
That being said, I think that while she could also be used as a taxi. TK from 12 spaces is going to be really useful when it comes to throwing around people like...Berserker Wolverine or Experienced Colossus into your foe or, alternatively, tossing Veteran Cyclops into the field to open fire on stranded enemies. For direct flight (and sticking with the X-Men theme), you may want to pair her up with Unique Professor X for a highly-maneuverable Mind Controller.
Overall, as a unique, she's a useful character--for the X-Men. Barring 400+ point games, she's too expensive for her measly 2 damage as a glorified supertaxi. Yet when paired with her teammates...she can be a fine addition to their maneuverability.
Hope that helps.

I'd pair her up with Psylocke(a no brainer IMHO), and probably throw in Gambit and Beast for some Perplex boosting.
Just a couple of quick thoughts, not a well thought out strategy...yet...
pair Phoenix with an E Psylocke (for the stealth) and Phoenix has an entire dial of 3 damage.
Also, you can TK Psylocke into battle if your close combat forces need some help.
It worked great for me. Also, V Prof X is good to have next to her on a rooftop. It's a mean combo. She'll always defend at 16, so on her 3rd click, her defense jumps to 18.
She's hard to use, and may eventually be considered one of the "bad" uniques. However, if you play her right, she's the ultimate annoyance.

Well, it all depends on how you want to play her.
If Pheonix is to be your focal point, you need Perplex (which is fairly easy now that Xplosion is out).
Phoenix (85)
U Cyclops (39)
V Beast (80)
E Gambit (44)
V Storm (52)
300 points
Beast and Gambit can use their Perplex on Phoenix to up her damage to four. Hitting for four from 12 range is going to be powerful. They also have great abilities: Gambit as a stealthy sniper and Beast as a charging brawler. Since you will not want to push Phoenix, they can use Perplex on others (or themselves) on her alternating turn to deal greater damage.
V Storm can be a taxi for Cyclops and make a great one-two punch. If Storm had running shot, it would be even better, but you take what you can get.
Perplex is the only way I can see using Phoenix as an effective piece. If you are just using her for TK or as a taxi, then you are better off using V Jean Grey (50 pts) and Exp Shadowcat (33 pts) for the price of Phoenix.

Stupid Broken Edit function.
For a 400 point variety of my above suggestion, consider throwing in R Psylocke (enhancement for Phoenix) and LE Wolverine (TK to the front lines, then Charge in and let B/C/F do their thing).

Per the rulebook, you cannot TK a figure more than 10 squares or make a TK attack with an object from more than 10 squares away (from the object).
She can make a ranged combat attack for 2 damage from 12 squares, though...
If this has been changed, I'd like to know where it's written.

TK does only work for 10 squares. I wrote that post very quickly and thus the errors display themselves. :)
