This could be a great figure for a fan to design provided he uses the mantra that Massu used.

In a weird sense, I'm glad Bencrawler won. There were a lot of ostriches still with their heads in the sand (shocking, right?) about that piece.

At least this gives him the "credibility" that those players needed to realize what the majority of us recognized when he was revealed so long ago.

Make Sinister the best X-Men beatstick you can. He needs an awesome regen power, permanent stealth, psychic blast with triple arrows plus 5 damage. Don't forget to give him his 19 defense with imperv for the first 5 clicks.

Seeing how the top 16 was mostly metron or nightcrawler teams (pretty much like last years worlds), wouldnt it be an idea to have 'compedative' play with a more restricted pool of figures that would 'rotate' more often, like the last two sets of marvel and last two sets of DC. That way you will see more different teams, more creativity and most of all less Tron/crawlers teams..

It's almost the same thing except you get no theme bonuses, no barrier, no ranged attacks and Roulette can't carry Jason Blood. Eh, I guess it's not really the same thing. The theme bonus would only be to map roll since no one will likely get to use the PCs anyway (until they get hit a bit, at least.

To keep the theme bonus, one of the Barriers and get a bit of range, you could use 1x Sargon the Sorcerer.

It just seems like you can't quite get as much oomph without Scarlet Witch. Ghost Fox Killer could work, too, since you can give her the theme team PCs to push her onto one of her Flurry PC clicks. Poison might occasionally be helpful as well.

I totally agree with this post. Congrats to Dan on the win. I don't blame him for using the team he did since that was pretty much what you needed to win. I cannot wait for Metron to be retired. And Nightcrawler....

Eh, Metron is most likely going to retire before next Worlds anyway, and Nightcrawler may have trouble dealing with the new Superman. :)

I was actually tableside with my camcorder and got the entire 10-15 minute match on camera, lol. It was fast, furious, intense, exciting. The opening moves took almost 10 minutes, but the actual action (attacks) took less than 5 minutes. Then it was over. That's what happens when BOTH Nightcrawler AND Kid Zoom pick up Gems! I also interviewed Dan afterwards. I will get this up within the next day or so for all to see.

:-) I was wondering the same thing. Bad enough I have to hear about how lame Metron is all the time, now I I don't even get my name. I guess that's what 2nd place gets ya ;-)

I could not have asked for a better game. I believe conservative play and turtling have their place in the competitive game. This is not just a HeroClix concept, it's an any combat simulator concept. When one player has pulled ahead, but due to damage taken from this effort he pulls back to rely on superior mobility to maintain the lead, he is just showing that discretion is the better part of valor.

An opening game plan of kiting/turtling/avoidance is kind of annoying, but also legit in the parameters than Wizkids/Neca has provided us for meta options.

However, my last game with Dan was neither. We (mostly me) spent a while contemplating options. But once it went down, no one ran. HSS, charge, pulse wave, pulse wave, pulse wave, pulse wave, HSS. Game. I loved it. As soon as he one shotted KZ, I knew he could have just pulled Metron way out. Instead we got to play a quick, action packed game that left KZ and 2 Metrons KO'd.

Like most good games, the teams were so balanced, that the dice, (specifically, NC getting the Gem) decided the game. An Ungemmed NC would have meant a much slower tempo. As it was, I knew if had to go down fast, or we would have been jockeying forever.

Great times. Great times. Congratulations Dan! It was an honor. Keystone represent!

Though I think there's a big difference between being conservative and turtleing.

From what I heard a popular tactic was to take metron on top of the elevated area of the bridge and wait for the opponent to come into your attack range before you make another move. That's all legit but what if the opponent says ok i'm just gonna sit back too and we can let the game go to die roll without making any attacks how interesting is that?

Anything that fosters an environment that encourages a game where the best move is to let the game go to a die roll is boring.

I am glad that's not how the final match was. I was worried that it was going to come down to a no attack roll off.

On the other hand, is that really on the players or the people designing the game? The people playing the game are just using the tools and rules set out for them. I don't fault all the people who played Metron - if they didn't play Metron, we'd probably see the top 16 filled with other people who played Metron.

As for turtling, I feel Wizkids has made strides to deal with it. You can't just sit around doing nothing for three turns, as I recall. Objects like the Structural Integrity Field were fixed to minimize turtling. Underbuilding to turtle and win is no longer an option.

Ultimately, people who are going to win are going to utilize the best methods they have for winning, which might mean turtling. The answer lies not with the players, but Wizkids. Based on fixes to Thunderbolts, turtling, theme teams, and so on, it seems that Wizkids is trying to make the game more like it should be - aggressive and comic-accurate - so they should be lauded for that, even if some kinks remain (and will probably always remain).

Personally, I can see several possibilities where a game might go to a die-roll in high level competition.

If both players made the assessment that engaging was going to expose them to a game loss, and so they basically 'danced around in circles' to time, well - so be it.

I definitely played that card back in the day. It didn't come down to it. But the situation was a stalemate. If somebody didn't give somebody a target, the game was going to come down to a die roll. Like I said, it didn't happen, and I lucked up and got the win. However, knowing the situation, I broached the idea. My opponent (a grade a player) didn't want it to come down to a die roll and so he gave me a target, banking on the risk of giving me that target ultimately ending up with him being in a better position. As it stands, we both did the math, and he ended up being off by one (all things being equal) and I ended up with the win.

Still, the point stands that given that high-pressure situation, there was very little incentive to 'get in there and start attacking'.

I agree, I said the strategy was legit. If it came across like I was criticizing the players that was not intended.

I don't blame them at all.

If they danced around for 40 minutes that's fine at least something is happening. What I heard is that some just stood on top of the bridge and waited for the opponent to come to them. There was no way to get a run on the turtling player without being exposed. Thus the best strategy would be to sit in your starting area and wait for time and a roll off to determine winner.


As far as I know it's perfectly legal to not do anything for any number of turns.

It is up to WK to do something about that.

i dont know if this has been brought up or if people tried it but im surprised noone tried...

GSX psylocke as a way to take out metron.. she has blades thats exploit and a possible incap if low damage..

Find some PC and TK her in there somehow.. or carry her in with nightcrawler.. I mean metron can obviously phase away but than hes not attacking at least..

just a thought..

Or SI annihulus.. range 10 psychic blast while metron only has 8.. its interesting.. im sure annihulus would somehow get out actioned by metrons pseudo indom. Also annihulus would have big weaknesses against non metron teams along the way probably.
