An open letter from the Marvel forums, to DC fans

Hi all you DC fans. I have a request to ask of you; I'll try to be nice about it, although it bothers me a lot. Please stop posting in the Marvel forum about how much Marvel sucks. In the Marvel forum, it is expected that I will log on, and then talk about some Marvel figures, or hey - maybe even DC too. However, I get a little riled up when DC fans decide to take it upon themselves to 'show us the error of our ways.'

Now I'm not saying all DC fans do this, because obviously that's not true - there are a few of you ruining it for everyone. Now I admit that there are people who could see where DC clix and DC comics are better than Marvel - it comes down to personal preference, and playing style. As a defensive player, I would have a tough time playing a bunch of characters that had to get 6 spaces away to shoot anything. But again, that's just me.

Anyway. I have no idea what goes on in the DC boards, as I almost never read them - I can only hpe that Marvelittes don't do the same thing. I'm quite tired of being ostracized by DC fans for ..... well, whatever it is that I'm being ostracized for. Again, I don't mean to say that all DC fans are a pain in the butt, because they're not. Hopefully though, this little message will encourage you to keep a leash on some of these people.

I don't want to sound like I am making light of this because I know what you mean (I actually like both companies so I get to see the Trollish behavior on both sides), but do you really think DC fans have any more control on these trolls than you do? These guys are really the same thing as someone coming in and posting that all people who play HC and not MK are weak. Basically, flame them or ignore them, but don't bunch everyone else in that group.

Have to agree. As of late the DC fans have been overly Agressive. I think it has to do something with the Lunar Cycle. :p :laugh: :classic: A lot of DC people have started the whole Marvel vs DC thing up. On the other hand I have seen 1 Marvel person start a Marvel vs DC thread.

PS Sandman doesnt really understand I guess. Flaming,(edit) not quite but close (edit), Jean_genie for no reason.

If you feel that I am blaming all DC fans for the actions of a few, then I would encourage you to reread my post. I stated twice that I do not think that everyone is to blame because there are a few bad apples - however, that doesn't mean that we don't all still get a bad rap. Heck, Marvellites get a bad rap because of the uge amount of young kids reading X-Books, but that doesn't mean that there aren't god-only-knows how many other books produced by Marvel.

As far as keeping trollish behavior in check, I don't really expect that anyone has the power (or the time) to do that. But if anybody can, it'd be their peers and fellow DC fans and posters. I know I'd be a lot more likely to listen to what my friends said than what somebody else said.

I can name 2 user names off the top of my head. IF I decided to look at the forum. There's several others that chirped in. I would group a large number with these DC fans.

As for being wrong. I am wrong enough times. I know it and accept it.

I still remember where I posted DC List. Just becuase DC has to be so much better then Marvel, to DC people. About 10 people had to start argueing about 1 sentence that was true but DC had to be better then Marvel so people had to argue about that one sentence. They, Ignore everything else that I talked about. That is the epitome of the DC.

I didn't read read any of the above posts, but since its an open letter from the Marvel fans to the DC fans, I'm assuming the poster is saying that DC sucks. I wholly agree and I wish HCRealms would delete all of the DC threads.

Manchine, looks like to me you sound exactly like the fans (DC or otherwise) that you are talking about. I may have a Superman Avatar next to my name but I like both companies and actually collect more Marvel. You make it sound like DC fans are die hards, but I hate to break it to you, the same thing can be found with Marvel Fans. You know that fans of any the comic companies are the same, you will get some fanatics. I am trying to point out it's wrong to pin the "aggressive" tag on DC fans when you know it works both ways. If he had just posted concerning obnoxious fans from each group need to stop this, then I would have whole heartedly agreed.

Hopefully ludd_gang has tongue firmly in cheek or else he's just proving my point.

As you can see he's jsut trying to start something. Every community needs a village idiot. Not saying your one but we will let your actions speak for you.

Y'know, it's funny that just the other day I was viewing some of the Marvel forums and thinking the same thing:

"Why in the world does it seem that the Marvel-guys spend an inordinate amount of time bashing DC?"

Fact is, that these things are comic book-based toys, and the comics geek in all of us come out at some point or another. That said, we can ALL act like jerks sometimes, and we just like to have our preferences heard. For example:
I used to prefer Marvel when I was a wee lad, and now that I'm all grown-up, I prefer DC.

Seriously, though, this debate & the comments in question will go on so long as there is a Marvel & a DC. 'Nuff Said.

What we really need is a specific thread made available to both forums where people could re-kindle the age old DC vs. Marvel debate, specifically as it pertains to Heroclix (being that this is a HEROCLIX website) without anyone feeling put upon -- obviously people would have to try and be reasonably civil about things, but I don't see why we couldn't have a friendly rivalry between the two groups (I doubt many people are THAT firmly seated on one side of the fence or another as it pertains to the game -- a lot of people obviously collect and enjoy both sets).

Wouldn't something like that be both useful and possibly amusing at the same time?

How about an open letter to all the Marvel Zombies (Jean_genie and others) to stay out of the DC forums! You're post and this thread is amazingly uncalled for man! DC vs. Marvel, the debate for the ages...come on! Do you not like to have fun? Are you really that entrenched in the Marvel way that looking outside the lines hurts you this much? Have you ever read a Batman comic? Or Superman? Or even Green Lantern?

I for one have read far more posts about DC "sucking" with not an once of creative critsism, than the opposite.
If anything the DC fans are finally retaliating to those who've insulted them for no good reason, over and over again.
And now the DC fans are overly aggresive?
HIstory speaks for itself, look through all the threads on these boards, and you'll see a clear case of retaliation, not blind aggression.
The Marvel fans generally need to calm down, and stop attacking DC fans.

I would have to agree in part with Answerman.
DC fans tend to also be Marvel fans. We (yes I'm a DC fan despite my love of Marvel) all suffer from trolls, no amount of polite requests are going to change that fact (unfortunately).
I tend to look at the latest posts when I arrive at HCRealms. I hardly ever differentiate between Marvel and DC; I just read stuff that interests me. In those journeys, I've got to say, I've seen a larger amount of degradation coming from the mouths of Marvel purists (not fans... purists) than from DC purists. Mostly this is because Marvel purists grossly outnumber DC purists.
The largest problem here is ignorance. For the most part everyone reads some Marvel and even DC uglies know something about Marvel's popular characters and their histories. Often, however, Marvel uglies, totaly ignorant of DC characters and their unique pasts, persist in posting inane comments. That really makes me sad. There are strong (and weak) points to both cultures.But you should know what you're talking about before you post at all.

In Machine's defense, I have to say that in the Avengers vs. JLA thread he did give kudos where it was due and refused to take a hard/uneducated Marvel stand.

For as long as I remember being a comic book fan I have liked both Marvel and DC (and Independant as well).

The writing in DC comics has, since the mid to late 80's, been better than Marvel. Recently, Marvel has made moves to correct and equalize this.

Really there are good characters from both universes. To like only one because you won't try the other is just plain ignorant!

Now seriously I enjoy both companies but, for different things. I enjoy DC's elseworld, vertigo,and batman lines. I love the x-titles(though they did lack in goo stories for a long time), Punisher, DD, the Max and Marvel knights line too. On the same note I think there are heros that I have no desire to read like Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Thor. But, that is me u know. I guess all in all we should all learn to take what we like and shut up about wht we don't. Plus all good players of this game know that the best teams are always made with good figures from both universes.

Without the competition between the two companies there wouldn't be the storylines, characters, and teams we all love and hate. So it also stands to reason there should be some competition between the Heroclix communities. Both companies have positives and negatives. I grew up with both and saw different styles in both companies over the years DC's pre-crisis/post crisis and the infamous Bryne era/ the Oh my god why did we let him do that era! Marvel had a mutie explosion in the eighties which led to some good storylines and some not so good. Onslaught shook up the Marvel universe and changed A LOT of their core members some for the good and some for the bad. I would also like to say that whole Marvel vs DC thing? Remember that was a popularity contest c'mon there is NO WAY Wolverine could ever hope to beat the Main Man! But as it turns out for those who actually talled the results Marvel won. Overall I prefer DC and I firmly believe that the JLA as it currently is can whoop the Avengers or X-Men any old day, but that doesn't mean I don't like the Avengers, who by the way are Marvel's version of the JLA:p

I like DC (Kingdom Come. . nuff said)

If you want to limit yourself to just one company that's your loss.

Now for the people going on about how Company A is better than Company B. . . . GET A LIFE. It's all comics and it's all good.

Besides I perfer the whole Superman vs Thor debate anyway :D
