View Full Version : So who has played Quarriors?

Dark_Jedi_21

I played the demo of Quarriors for about five minutes at Gencon and went then purchased it immediatley. A friend and I played it every spare minute we had and it is a blast. Its easy to pick up and play but has some great strategy to learn. We loved it more each time we played. Anyone else lucky enough to buy this at Gencon?

Mine has been on pre-order for about 2 months. Hopefully it will arrive this week.

Picked up a copy at GC while both desogners were hnging around at the booth at the end of the day and had them both sign the tin top for me.

Was going to wait to buy locally... but could not pass up having another signed game in my collection.

I'm friends with a playtester at NECA and he's been bringing his demo copy of Quarriors to our weekly Heroclix event (he's also our judge) and I've been loving it! Put mine on pre-order pretty soon after playing :)

Is it a collectible game? And do they have any more info about it on the WK site yet? Like rules etc?

It isn't a collectible game and the rules have been up at the WK site for quite some time.

I tried it at Origins. It's in the "not a top priority, but if I get a good deal on it, I might pick it up" category for me.

It isn't a collectible game and the rules have been up at the WK site for quite some time.

And while it's not collectable, it is expandable as there are numerous ways to add to the game with more dice and additional cards. There are three promo cards already out there that should be available thru FLGSs that have pre-ordered the game. However, the game has immense replayability based on what all you get in the initial tin.

Game of the Year next year- calling it right now!!

I played a demo too. I would of bought a copy but I don't think anyone in my area would play it. And I don't have many friends that play games outside of the Heroclix guys around the area I see at tourneys.

I'll also probably get it sometime down the road if I find a deal on it. Just not worth it for me personally right now. But it was fun, and the mechanics of it are cool and are pretty easy to start to learn. I liked it a lot.

It releases August 10th. Game of the year for me. Liked it more each time I played it. I was reading some interviews with the designers on board game geek and it looks like expansions are in the works!!

I'm seeing this a lot, and I wish I could tell people this enough to make them understand.

1) If you are remotely interested in this game, you will like it.

2) If you like deck-building games, you will like it.

3) If you like dice, you will like it.

I played this game almost 40 times in one day while demoing at Gencon and I can't wait for each time I get to play it again. It's THAT good.

two friends bought it and I have played no less than 5 games. It is awesome. Game of the year is not beyond possibility. It is great. At one point I was playing with my one friend who finished top 4 at worlds and Ben Cheung. I kicked both of their butts with Ben not scoring a single point. That might have helped me to like the game, though ;)

So I finally played the Demo Unit my store received. It's really fun. I kind of want to buy it, but it's just so expensive. My store doesn't have it on sale, so it's being sold at the MSRP of $50. They have a Demo Unit, so I'm tempted to just play that whenever we hang out at the store.

If it ever drops in price, I might consider it.

I had the same thing. I think one of my questions was about the spell that lets you restore a destroyed creature to your active area. If there is damage left over is that restored creature attacked again or does it not come back until the attack phase is over? So say I have a combined attack of 7 and I destroy an opponent's creature with a defense of 3 and my opponent uses that spell to restore it. I still have 4 attack left, can I destroy that same creature again?

I had some more questions but like you said I can't think of them now.

Once damage is dealt, and a creature is destroyed, that's it. The only time damage carries over is when you have a second (or third, etc...) creature to take it. A creature does not take damage from the same attack twice.

If your creature is returned, you do not need to worry about damage until it is another player's turn to attack.

At least, that's how I play it.

08/12/2011, 11:16
OK. I have one. When you spend a die to use it, does it immidiately go into your used pile? Let's say I score an assistant die at the beginning of my turn. Can I cull the same die I just scored?

Also, when you have a spell that use the "immediate" (like the Growth spell) do you use it immediately on the turn you rolled it, or can you save it for a future turn?

AFAIK, no. You can only cull a die already in your Used Pile. The reasoning is that the c reature scored is not yet in your Used Pile when you are scoring/culling.

At least, that's how we've played it.

Also, when you have a spell that use the "immediate" (like the Growth spell) do you use it immediately on the turn you rolled it, or can you save it for a future turn?

"Immediate" effects must be used immediately. If multiple "Immediate" effects are present (Re-rolls, Portals, etc...), the active player decides in what order they resolve.

I wish I had friends.

Is this a Quarriors question? ;)

Is it active area or ready area? Big difference...

Can a creature be destroyed in the active area? Is it a creature yet before it's rolled?

Can a creature be destroyed in the active area? Is it a creature yet before it's rolled?

As I said, I'll be correcting you.

His statement said that there is a spell that lets you restore a creature to your ACTIVE area. He then went on to ask if that creature has to deal with an attack again.

I was wanting to confirm which he meant, as your ACTIVE pool are dice to be rolled, while READY area is summoned creatures and monsters.

His question seemed to indicate he was putting the monster back in his READY area, not his ACTIVE pool.

Again, big difference... :p

Ok I have another question. This has to do with "spending" die again.

Let's say I roll a portal and I get the immediate effect to draw 2 dice and roll them. My bag is empty so I have to move my used pile into my bag. Does the portal die I just rolled get put into the bag as well?

Since the portal is what is being activated, it should not move to the Used Pile until it's effect is complete.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure these are wrong. I re-read the rule book, and there is no "hold" area before a die is spent and moved to the used pile. The instruction book even states that in order to use an effect the die MUST be moved to the used pile. On page 8 it gives an example on what happens when you score a creature. It says that you MUST move the creatures and attached spells to your used pile. It then says AFTER scoring you may cull one of you die. On page 10 it also gives you an example on how the portal works. It clearly states that to even be able to use the portal effect you have to move it to your used pile.

(Where were you on that one Duane? Sheesh) :p

I was doing my real job. WK does not send me a paycheck, after all.

Culling die. Yep, you are wrong J (but, yes, that's how we play it). Per page 8 of the rule book:

1. Score.
2. Move die/dice from Ready area to Used Pile.
3. Cull.

Portal. Yep, wrong again. Per example on page 10:

Portal is an Immediate effect. It is spent (and then placed in Used Pile) to draw two die to roll.

However, I think NOT adding it to the Used pile immeditately makes the Portal die more balanced and again, is how we play it. I believe the "set aside Portals until all dice have been pulled and rolled" was told to me by Will who did in-house development on it. Not an official rule, but balancing, IMHO.

Cool Game. A good filler game. A little more random then Dominion, but a distinctly diffrent play experience.

Definitely fun...although I dont yet get the costing of some creatures. For instance the 5-C Ooze seems significantly better then then the 8-C Ooze to me.

Amd sometimes a Turn-1 Wizzard/Dragon can be a blow out.

Still though a lot of fun with a lot of valid strategies.

Anyway I still have some questions about how Clone Oozes work...

If the Clone Ooze copies a Dragon how much glory does he score if he survives?
4 Glory (as the Dragon) or 2 Glory (as the Ooze)

How do multiple Clone Oozes work
Ooze #1 comes out and copies a Dragon and then kills the Dragon
Ooze #2 comes out....He copies the Clone Ooze that is copying a Dragon...is Ooze #2 a Dragon?

What happens if Ooze #1 wants to switch to something else before Ooze #2 copies Ooze #1?

Jarimy123
08/15/2011, 15:53
I don't see how the Ooze gets any benefits from copying another monster besides their stats/powers. You score the Ooze, which is whatever is on his card, you wouldn't score the creature. But I don't have the card in front of me. Doesn't the copying powers strictly mean that it fill sin the ? marks with their stats - it doesn't make him that creature.

Does it really work that an Ooze can copy what another Ooze is copying? I thought you copied the creature, not the copy of a creature. I just lost myself.

Official WK FAQ from BGG....
WizKids Quarriors FAQs 8/15/2011 – has been submitted to be uploaded into the file section (typically takes a few days)

Note: this does not encompass every question to date – we hope to publish every two weeks or so until questions slow down.

Rules Questions for the base game (promo cards are further below):

Q) Combat timing of the following: Shaping Cantrip: REACTION. Cast this spell to return one of your just destroyed creatures to your ready area (at its same level) instead of putting it in the used pile and Ghostly Spirit: When Ghostly Spirit is destroyed, you may cull 1 Basic Quiddity to return Ghostly Spirit to your Ready Area (for free).

A) The following rule is added: You only assign damage once to a creature per combat. So while the creatures are returned during the combat phase, they are "safe" and/or cannot use their destroyed ability more than once per combat. Leftover damage is lost.

Q) Can more than 4 players play?

A) You can certainly house rule things, but there are currently no official variants for more than 4 players.

Q) How does the Strong Primordial Ooze work (the one that copies other creatures)

A) When the ooze enters the Ready area (by any means) - you must copy a creature in an opponents' area, if able. It copies another creature exactly including its glory (the 2 Glory is there only if there are no other creatures to copy). If the copied creature then goes away it does not impact the ooze as it remains the creature it copied. Attached spells are not copied. An ooze can copy an ooze that copied another creature (and thus becomes that originally copied creature). Once it has copied a creature it cannot shift back to just an ooze (unless it’s copying another "plain" ooze in an opponents' ready area). Spells or affects that return the Ooze to the ready area make the ooze have to copy a new creature or be 0/5. Once in the used pile (after all scoring/spell affects have occurred) or if you roll/reroll the die and immediate affects are resolved it loses all memory of previous states.

If the ooze has copied a creature (like the ghostly spirits) that have an ability that continues after it is destroyed it remains a copy of that creature until it is returned to the ready area, used pile or rolled and any immediate affects resolved of the creature it was copying (Ex. an Ooze has copied a Mighty Ghostly Spirit. It is destroyed. Once you destroy a creature you roll the copied Mighty Ghostly Spirit and either add it to your ready area or used pile, after this point it is an “ooze” die with no memory of what came before).

Q) Strong Questing Wizard - how could there be spell dice in your Active Pool?

A) The mighty scavenging goblin and other creatures may bring dice out into the active pool, these then can be culled for extra glory.

Q) Can portals keep pulling themselves?

A) Yes, but if you are only pulling portals, the player may declare that the end state of 1 Quiddity is reached and not have to keep rolling them (simulate infinite rolls).

Q) Can the growth die that draw additional dice draw themselves?

A) Yes.

Q) Must I attack if I have creatures that deal damage?

A) You must attack all players.

Q) Are assistants creatures?

A) Yes – assistants while being a Basic Die are also a Creature die.

Q) Ghostly Spirit – when destroyed can I bring it back at any level?

A) No, it is returned at the level at which it was destroyed?

Q) Strong Witching Hag – can I bring a creature to the active pool that scored in the same turn as the Strong Witching Hag

A) Yes.

General Issues

Q) The portal "2" side is hard to read, is this on all portal dice?

A) The "1" side is ok, thus if it is hard to read it is probably the "2" side. This impacts all portal dice.

Q) What is the glory for an assistant who scores?

A) 1. Some folks think the 1 looks like a 7.

Q) My dice have a small blemish, imperfection etc - can I get a replacement? What about large visual issues?

A) Small blemishes from paint and inherent marks from the injection molding process (gate marks, small bubbles etc) we ask you to accept as part of the inherent nature of dice manufacturing. If numbers are missing/illegible or the die is just an outright mess, please contact us starting August 19th 2011 at www.heroclix.com/replacement (while it says heroclix, it is also where we will be handling our game replacements). If you have already submitted a request to the previous email address it is being processed through there, but all new ones should go through the process above.

You will have to create an account. Sign up with your name and information. An activation code will be sent to the email address you supply. You will be prompted for that code the first time you log in. If you go there before August 19th, you will be prompted and instructed to send in a package. By August 19th, the Quarriors dice will be listed among the things that can be replaced and no package requirement (for 5 items) will be required.

Promo cards

Q) Do the promo card backs have a different color gradient or is it just my cards?

A) All of the promo cards have the shift in color and may have other slight differences from the original base game cards.

Q) Quaxos’ warrior of the Quay vs. Mighty defender of the pale (single and double burst affect)

A) Once you’ve paid the extra quiddity to summon the Warrior, the defender of the pale also requires additional quiddity (1 or 2 depending on burst) for the previously “free” summoned creature

Thank you

Got my copy today, played a game with my 4-year-old daughter and we both had a blast! (she won) Definitely worth picking up. Now if someone could just help me snag a set of the promo/preorder cards....

As I mentioned in another thread, I own this and another friend of mine also has it. I first had a chance to sit down to play it Sunday night. Within the first 24 hours of playing that first game, I believe I played it 10-12 times.

Honestly you're not missing anything. The promo cards only really work well with each other and unless you just agree to use all of them when one comes up they're not that great.

Ah, gotcha. Game is certainly fun enough so far without them. Played another game today with my wife and daughter, and once again the 4-year-old walked away with the victory.

The promo cards do offer 3 more cards to use though, which adds more variety to the game, even if they are the same creatures with just different stats/abilities.

Oh, most certainly. I'd like to have a set, but I'm not paying the $26 or whatever the price has gone up to on Ebay for three cards.

Hey guys, just working on a review for the Rise of the Demons expansion and I wanted to make sure I have one of the rules right.........I figured that since Munchoboy offered to answer Qs here (and that DS-00-0, FSD offered to then give the correct answer :p) this would be the place to go.

So in reguards to the Corrupted Death Dealer

"If any opponent readies a Spell die, Death Dealer is destroyed"

Am I right in thinking that an immediate spell (like the 3 Growth spells) will not destroy the Death Dealer as it will not make it to the ready area?

Thanks :)

I took Quarriors with me when I went to have Thanksgiving with my sister, and my nieces fell in love with it. Going to be giving it to them for Christmas.

I finally played it as it was being demonstrated. Very fun once the learning curve is flown past. It looks like it could have a lot of replayability as well.

Bought the set, expansion and have ordered the promos because I love dice. I have played only once with my friend (and judge) from my local venue. Although I lost (he rolled 4 level 3 wizards in two turns to grab some major glory), I really enjoyed the game. Once I learn the benefits/stratedgies of the other creatures, this will be great game with mega replay value. Looking forward to this game becoming a standard at my house.
