We covered a lot of things during GenCon; Supergirl, LotR/Street Fighter/Gears of War spoilers, HeroClix Worlds ... but one thing was left unanswered from the weekend: What is Infinity Gauntlet?.

I sat down with Jerome and got the HCRealms community the first look at what is to come January 2012!

First, Infinity Gauntlet is not a set ... it is an Organized Play event that will arc over three Marvel sets in 2012 (Hulk, Galactic Guardians, Mighty Avengers; ~8 months). The Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play Kit will be available to stores in addition to the OP Kits that normally come with a sets' release (not as a replacement).

Once per month, your store will run an Infinity Gauntlet event that will reward an event winner, as well as participation prizes. The participation prizes over the course of the arc will be each of the gems, and well as the gauntlet itself (and no, the Infinity Gauntlet is not an Event Dial).

Although I was not told so; I have to assume that the figures will be the winner prizes. Stores should begin coordinating the event within their community to give people multiple opportunities to hop between stores and have a chance to get the winner prizes!

That is as much information I was able to get, but based on what I heard, it looks to be a great event that gets the players back into stores! I know I'm excited!

I'm thinking they will be similar to the lanterns, and that the gauntlet will allow a character to grab several and/or better use them. The gauntlet will probably have a 'roll to pick up' clause as well. Just guessin'.

Characters such as Tyrant and The Fallen One would be great, but I'd expect to see them more in a Galactic Guardians set than Infinity Gauntlet since those characters showed up after the series. A Mangog would also be nice since Thanos has employed him before when he did his own siege of Asgard. :classic:

Have you read about they are extremely powerful, it would be a Crime if they did not have game effects

The lanterns all have effects and some are usefull yellow lantern.

Going to be amazing.
It brings another level of competition to the venues when big prizes are to be had. It also brings more people out to play. I already know I want my hands on those gems, just to make as many terrible "family jewels" puns as possible.

I wonder if those gems and/or the Infinity Gauntlet will be in any way useful if you do not have any/all of the Gems or the Gauntlet itself. In other words, if someone only gets to attend one tourney and they get a Gauntlet, is it any good? If someone attends a tourney and gets one or two Gems but no Gauntlet, are they useful?

Are the kits going to be available through Diamond, or do you have to have a NECA account to order them?

Can a venue order multiple kits? If so, are the numbers the same as for the normal prize kits?

Is it a single kit that you order or is it broken into multiple kits?

I think each gem will have powers the charactor can use once per turn for free
Time Gem = Prob Control + Flurry
Power Gem = Super Strength + HSS
Space Gem = Phasing Teleport
Soul Gem = Possession
Reality Gem = Stealth + Flight
Mind Gem = Mind Control
If a charactor has The Gauntlet then he can pick up and use all six gems for FREE without the once per turn restriction

It looks in the one picture that there was some kind of stand the gems and gauntlet were on, maybe that's the 8th one. W/o the gem and gauntlet it might just act as a 3D heavy object? Whatever. Sounds like some fun!

These were my ideas for Infinity Gem items i came up with a few months ago:

Mind Gem - Modify defense value by +1. Can use Probability Control if they can’t already.
Power Gem - Modify damage value by +1. Can use Super Strength if they can’t already.
Reality Gem - Character possesses Power Cosmic team ability instead of any other team abilities.
Soul Gem - When character makes a successful close or ranged combat attack, heal character of 1 damage.
Space Gem - Modify movement value by +2. Character can use Phasing/Teleport if they can’t already.
Time Gem - Modify attack value by +1. Character can use Super Senses if it can’t already.

And yes, the gems can be used individually without the gauntlet in the comics.

really hope they have good support for judges in this somehow. Considering how seriously some of my players took things when the X-Force LEs were the prizes, I'm dreading to see what they'll be like when we finally get to play for that awesome Thanos figure. Normally I play in the tournaments I run and put my judge LE into the prize pool so I have to compete for it. I make a lot of effort to be an impartial judge and only really play fun themey teams, but even still when the prizes are all important there are those who read into decisions as if I am not being impartial. So I don't think I'll play in these....but I'd still like that Thanos, for display purposes if nothing else. I definitely want the Champion and Grandmaster as well....

True, guess it all comes down to the venue, and we don't really have one in Copenhagen. We had to put together the Danish championship in a private setting.

THis my just be me, but i'm hoping the infinity gauntlet is a new gimick for heroclix, and is something along the lines of a 200 point item. I really want to see them make a super powerful item that you can use and one of your characters starts with. It would be awesome to run an already strong character with the infinity gauntlet to make a one man army. IMO, making it useless without the gems would be kinda lame, because it couldn't be used in a 1v1 tourney setting and have all the gems with it.

Hopefully the Judges will get copies of the prizes. I know I for one am in the situation of choosing to run, or choosing to play, and if it requires MORE OF AN EFFORT to coordinate with other venues, then I better get copies of the prizes for my time. If not, it's not worth it to me.

Frankly I'm kinda burnt out on the whole remake thing going on. My interest in HC is dwindling due to the fact that soooooo many sets come out each year and it seems the gap between modern age and golden age is getting smaller and smaller. But I know that is to keep you buying HC and keep pouring your money into the market. Also, the remake of characters is getting old. For once I would like for HC to make a set that has all new, never been released before pieces to maintain the continuity of HC interest (such as they did with Watchmen,Street fighter, Halo, Invincible, and GOW sets) except make them in the DC or Marvel universe. It gets real old seeing Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Hulk ect... getting rebooted over and over.

Then by all means stay home. You are free to NOT participate. I think the rest of us...well, most of us, anyway...are really hyped about this.

Hopefully even the DC purists will see the advantage and fun behind an event such as this!

On a related note, for those that haven't tried the IG Event Dial, I highly recommend it. It's really fun! Just keep the Gauntlet token away from Zen-Hatten. :cross-eye

Hm. I wasn't terrible interested in the prize figures (Minus Terrixia) anyway, so it's good to hear that the Gems and The Infinty Gauntlet itself are 3D Objects that you got for just playing in the event!

Heck knowing my venue if I miss out one on of the events due to work or something they'll just hold one aside for me anyway (so long as the players who DO show up all get their dues)

This is pretty decent picture I took -- the six gems are removable as the WizKids guy showed me and informed that Thanos, the glove and the stand upon which Thanos stands are prizes for the tournament. Thanos and his stand are grand prizes.

Yeah I'd really like to know this as well. Well not exactly nothing, since they eventually released the Judge exclusive LEs. But it did appear to be nothing at first eh?

I can see the judges jumping in to tournaments if this is the case. At the venue I attend everyone is extremely friendly and we all make sure it stays that way. I can see us all being fine with allowing the judge to play on a competative level.

Unless the judge is a store employee. It looks bad when the judge/employee/tournament organizer wins prizes. Even if they won fair and square.

I LOVE this kind of idea. The Big G events and Starro events were soo cool. I love the idea of a story or tale type of sets of events. I think it adds a lot to the game.

I expect to see championship-level competition/play in these tournaments, similar to The Coming of Galactus and Starro Attacks!, where OotS Bats and Scarlet Witch usage was as rampant as Metron/Nightcrawler/Kid Zoom is now.

In fact, expect to be sick of seeing NC and KZ. :angry:
