View Full Version : Anonynous Mafia 7: Picking a Theme

Okay, I have decided it was time to revisit Anonymous Mafia. For you new players, this is a mafia game played on a proboard. I give every player a screen name to use, and it is all anonymous. You have no idea who is playing with you. It prevents meta-gaming and allows old players to change their style or avoid always getting targeted, new players are treated the same as everyone else and it is, usually, a lot of fun.
The question is, what should the theme of this game be. Here are a few ideas.

Comic Book Themes
A few anonymous games have had this. I did Runaways, Ultimate X-Men and Comic Book Romance as Anonymous. Some options I've been thinking about.
1) Invincible
2) The Authority
3) Sibling Rivalry (similar to my Romance game, but using siblings instead of lovers)

Animal Theme
I've done a couple of these already in Anonymous. Rabbits and Dragons. Two games I really loved. In this, I'd pick a new animal and build a game around it.

TV Themes
There are some great TV shows that have never had a game yet. I haven't run a game based off a single show since I did South Park and Futurama years ago. But I do love TV games (as you can tell from Mags' TV Mafia). The two I am most looking at:
1) Supernatual
2) Veronica Mars

Let's go with animals. We see a lot of the other two.

VM gets my top vote.

Animals is always fun (and helped me drive my friend who was getting me to watch Buffy nuts when I knew all about Anya without ever seeing an episode).

I'd vote for Sibling Rivalry if you go comics.

Damn, those are all fantastic ideas. I think you have your next few games lined up already.

I'd recommend staying away from TV... if only because I've noticed TV themed games have a habit of discussing episodes and favorites and the like, not to mention spoiling for those who haven't seen it, and it would hamper the Anonymous aspect.

I really enjoyed couples, so my votes for Sibling Rivalry

If I were to do animals, I think I would do Reptile Mafia: Cold Blooded Murder

Would be a pot luck of famous fictional reptiles. Snakes, Turtles, Crocodiles, etc.

So, the vote is evenly split between Veronica Mars, Reptiles and Siblings, eh. I'll probably run all three eventually. Not necessarily as anonymous mafias, but they are all on my list of games I want to run.

Okay. I think I have more ideas for Reptiles at the moment, so I'll run that and save siblings for the next time. Sign up thread will be posted, but remember, sign ups for anonymous are done via PM, so message me if you want to play.

(For those wishing for a comic theme, don't work, comic reptiles will make their way into the game. :) )
