I didn't like his WP because one of the actions being a move action don't make any sense, if his WP was to gain 2 free actions and only one can be used for attack and the other can be used for whatever you wanted (like outwit, etc) he would be 5 stars for me.

Max makes the most out of his MC with Quasar, as Phasing/Teleport is now a move action; Quasar will be able to Phase 5 squares and attack, twice. Use Mental Shields to cancel MC feedback damage, and Compel to MC a friendly Quasar. You could even have another MC character Compel Max to Compel Quasar (or any P/T monster), again.

"You could even have another MC character Compel Max to Compel Quasar (or any P/T monster), again." Mental Shields makes you immune to other characters' mind control, and 'optional' is no longer a correct term in 'clix. You're attempts at game-breaking fooleriness will have to wait. He's not unique, so why not just play multiples of him like people do HoT Cap, AA Question, and Jason Blood, complete with as many cheats...I mean feats, as you can afford?!?
Waiting so long for Maxwell Lord was a travesty. Giving us one without Justice League International, Super-buddies, Brightest Day, Politician, Psionic, or even the Extremists keyword was a backhanded slap with the left hand!!! Playable? Yeah, but it feels trendy about mid to late dial. This guy made the 99.99999% of the world forget about him. Now THAT would be game-breaking.

MEH. He doesn't really change tactics half way through his dial, he just gets worse at them. Where is the black lantern? Regen, really, that's it. Has his uses just not really a whole lot of them.

Geez, why can't people just be happy that they make a character? Not every single figure needs to be game-breaking. Do I wish that he had a few more things going for him? Absolutely! Does he have a place on certain teams? Most definitely! I'll be running him on my modded Black Lantern teams for sure. He'll get destroyed in sealed events more than likely, and that low defense without Mastermind really hurts, but when he manages to get that MC power off your opponent could be in for some serious pain.

Because it's easy to make a character if accuracy isn't an issue. Imagine your favorite character made with an inaccurate and weak power set. You may have the right sculpt, but in no other sense did they make the character. I'm not going to pay money for a Superman without Super Strength, a Spider-Man without Super Senses (or a similar defensive power), or a Maxwell Lord who does not represent the comic character's threat level.
D: must have this! i wish he had JLI keyword though. oh superbuddies, how i love you.

Then don't buy it? I think that's a pretty simple solution there. :p

But I play heroclix and will be buying a case. If we all stopped buying them the game would go away and we don't want that, we just want it done right. Not every piece needs to be ground breaking, but it does need to be done well and this piece isn't.

I fail to see how this clik doesn't do Max Lord justice. Plus, all you said was it doesnt represent his 'threat level', but gave no other explanation or justification for your statement. Not every Heroclik has to be broken or have some ridiculous trait or power. Maxwell Lord did make the entire world forget about him, yes this is true, everyone forgot about him EXCEPT Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Who beat him and saved the day. I love DC comics, but Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are 2nd stringers at best. Then Wonder Woman snapped his neck like a twig, granted she is Wonder Woman but with this kinda resume I would say this is a pretty decent take on Maxwell Lord, espescially that Mind Control White Box. Just think of all the ridiculous things you can do!!!

pretty much everyone here has made some excellent points (though maybe a bit overzealous. (not mentioning any names) see how I didn't) about this fig. it's awesome I think but I can see some short comings.
I like to see people expressing their passion for Clix, but I also don't think we need to get up-in-arms over *everything*
anyway I didn't hop in here to sermonize & waist everyone's time. I wanted to point out that now that more of the set has been declared and the official checklist has been released maybe we have a better idea what WK/N was planning for Max Lord in this set. he's #13 & #40 prob'ly there'll be an LE of him in the OP kit too! (that'd be cool) just like the old REV days. seams to me that one is the Blackest Night one & the other is for Brightest Day. maybe the LE (if there even is such a fig--we don't know yet--) will be the JLI + Super Buddies one from when (we thought) he was a good guy.
either way it's pretty clear we were all jumping to conclusions before we had all the info. I wonder if taking the two (and maybe 3) figures into account how different some of you feel.
I think splitting him up like this is good. all that amazing mind control with the steal energy & regen that might be too much. the more of this set I see the more I want

I really can't understand the dislike towards this figure. I think he's a great dial. Sealed? Not so much. He's really going to shine in constructed. Handing out PD team abilities to people such as Deadshot and Vertigo with a bunch of checkmate pawns? That trait really makes this figure's 10 attack seem a heck of a lot better. I really think people are underestimating this figure. Outwit? Regen? stealth? willpower? two action MC? That seems pretty great to me. Guess it just depends on your playstyle.

just like all the clicks in this set, i am looking at them and saying "this is REALLY good, this should be about 40 more points!". however this peice is not broken point investment is great, even in sealed because of the great mind control ability. but contructed will be best, since you can take full advantage of his trait with other checkmate peices
I see this as a good fit with DC75 Scar and Zombie Dirk Anger in a steal energy/annoyance team. I like the dial, I like the regen and steal energy, and I love the mind control ability. A good 'hide in the shadows' piece, especially for the cost.
This guy is just nothing but awsome. While the trait will rarely kick in, his stealth, willpower, AND his SP combine to make him such a usefull tool... Marvel Fan or whatever, this guy is a must-have for your toolbox.
Mind controll some cheap figure on your opponents team who has exploit, run them over to their big tentpole/brick fig, and have a go at it! If you fail the first time, just try to MC 'em again the next turn with willpower!
Compel, mental shields, or just playing him cardboardless, there's no end to merit for this fig. Even if you do MC some big figure and take feedback, you can steal-energy back up to it, or even regen back up to it! Love him!
If you want that special power to work make a v formation with Maxwell at the bottom now put 2 dead shots on either side and now stick a checkmate white night in between the dead pools all in hindering boom you have twin cannons with a 13 attack no tokens on them and you are ready for 2 time to set up shots for 5 penetrating damage each. oh and if you want next turn let her push into out wit. I murdered a lot of people with that plus a green lantern to haul them in stealth bomber formation. His price plus the pd team ability own.

Pretty potent, but just painfully squishy. Maybe I'm just bad at using Mind Control, but I've never felt like I got my money's worth out of him. Might blend well with the Checkmate generics, but he's always going to be way too close to death for comfort with his weak defense.
@commandercool
Admittedly I didn't understand the pd ability it's not like hydra, it's -1 to defense, which is insanely better. Now you can put those checkmate black and white knights to work. Yes he has a low range, yes he has a 16 point defense. Buuuut he has stealth and will power. He won't ever be a priority target. The point of a team is to be worth more than the sum of their parts. And he does it in full.:a-sharpshooter:

All I have to say is this guy plus the Checkmate ATA is amazing! Lower defenses on your foes + boosted AV or AD from Checkmate perplex = a sure hit for all the RCE, Inc, MC, and just about any basic attack you throw out. Not to mention all the Outwit Checkmate figs have. I just made Hulked out Thor hit his own Hulked out Cyclops today for 5 damage with Max's super MC. It was fun =)
