Did something change recently regarding posting ebay links? I just noticed a button I've never seen before on some members' profiles that says $ EBAY and takes one to a link of their ebay profile. But the forum regulations still says that any posting of ebay links is forbidden. (Although admittedly, that page does seem fairly out of date.)
If posting ebay links is allowable now, that seems like a pretty big deal, maybe worth making a general announcement about.
That button has been there for as long as I've been here, so over a year. Most people don't have it, of course, but that's because they don't include it in their profile.
I think the rule is meant to cut down on excessive posting of advertisements. It's the same reason that you aren't allowed to post about your business, but you can link to your business in your signature, it's just less intrusive and wastes less resources.

I never noticed it before. So you can include a link to your profile there, but you can't post a link in the forums? Interesting.
It's under "Edit your details" on the control panel

Yes. Because the link to your ebay profile isn't specifically advertising anything on ebay it's not really a big deal. More specifically an ebay icon in your profile doesn't advertise one specific item, which is the point of not using out site to advertise for others.
The user's signature however offers a little bit of leeway as we allow people to advertise based on what's in their signature.
Some people who frequent HCR are avid ebay sellers(making their living from it infact) and can make it known they sell things on ebay, but cannot post a specific link (due to forum rules). The little ebay button gives them a way to skirt the no ebay links rule by letting the sig "advertise" their store, but restricts them from saying:
XYZ on ebay now! Click here!!
It's also not an option I'm 100% sure can be turned off.
I also would note that my link to my ebay page has been here since like 2003 when I joined.. :)

Well, at least I learned something today. :)

I learn something everyday.. Its just a shame that I usually don't want to know.. :)
Fungi are most closely related to animals.
There, now you've learned something new today as well! (Probably. Assuming you aren't a science nerd already.)

That link is there so that you can read my review of the Daredevil blu-ray that I posted several years ago. :cheeky:
