View Full Version : How many figs is too many?

Myself and a few buddies just went in on 3 cases of X-Plosion (one of the few good things about being 36 with a good job) and of course we have many figs from the previous sets. So we are in the 400-500 fig range, before X-plosion

How many figs do you have? and more importantly How do you store them.

I have gone the large tackle box route, but are there any other alternative methods.

It's getting to be a pain in the arse, lugging them around and hearing my wife complain about the space.

I have about a hundred because I trade alot of guys for a few really good guys. I store mine in simple tackle boxes.
I hope to get a lot of X-plosion however!!!!!!!

I now carry six hardware boxes that contain my main collection. It's rough lugging them to friends houses to play but I manage.

All my extras are just kept in one box. I haven't sold them because people keep finding figures they need in it so I keep it around as a free box for friends.

if you have the space and dont insist on take your collection with you a glass display case works well, ikea has some for about 100$ with can display a large number of figures. If you want to take your collection with you it gets more difficult, tackle boxs work well, but eat up space and only hold so many figures each. I have found some parts cabinets and tool boxs work well, but you cant store each figure individually. A friend of mine bought a large cardboard box used for holding cards, ccg'ers know the type, and then bought a large number of slide together plastic boxes for holding cards and placed about 6 figures in each plastic box and labled what was in each one and stored the plastic boxes in the cardboard box it works well for him. and they can be slide under the bed or in a closet so they are out of sight.

Okay, this gets a little tricky:

My core set occupies those toy car carrying cases from Wal-Mart, six of them once XPlosion comes out.

When I actually go to play, I build my teams beforehand and carry them in a small divided box I got at K-Mart, two for three bucks. I can easily carry two or three forces along with all my accessories, and it's far easier than lugging my collection along.

My "weenie" extras are dumped in the box my boots came in.

My "name" extras as sorted and stored in the huge "pizza box" things made to hold trading cards; three of them as of yesterday.

My "premium" trade fodder -- U and LE -- is kept separately in the box my computer speakers came in.

I've promised my fiancee I'd wipe out the extras. After I complete my XPlosion set, my best friend is getting his pick out of what remains. The remainder will be used to trade and fill in *his* set, and whatever's left at that point will probably get sold off here.

I have eight Shimano tackle boxes for my main collection (full sets of IC and HT with all LEs, full normal set of CT with 6 of the LEs). I have two boxes of scrubs where I have duplicates of the generic figures (in case I need a Skrull army or a lot of Thugs or whatever). These are plastic trading card boxes (not sure on the card capacity). I have a third card box for my Frankenstein lab (all of the figures I chop up for conversions). For my hordes of extras I use good old Diamond Distributor comic boxes (basically the boxes that comics are shipped to comic stores in). So using my normal collection is neat and orderly and digging through my dupes is an adventure!

Really good tackle stores have cases that look like a briefcase, but clear and will easily hold 200+ figs. I don't have one, but a friend that goes to tourneys does and I've grown to really like how he knows exacty where to look for everything. And that's that I'm pretty darn organized myself (except for my grocery bag of nons).

I collected all of IC because of how great it was to me at first. I love the game, but I because I play to play and not so much to collect, I trade for what I want and have hardly bought either of the last two sets HT or CT. Space is the issue. I'm dying for an expandable PC game. It would be cool if it was like Magic with the boosters and starter and everything and redeemable everything. If you want it, you can get it. And how easy would trading be? All electronic! No more postage! Yeah!

Tackle boxes are a good idea, but not overly protective of the figures. I find they're too cumbersome for carrying trade stock, and not sturdy enough for storing a collection.

I currently use the Chessex 56 count figure boxes (which, due to Heroclix figure size, store just 28 figures). And yes, that results in a lot of figure boxes, even considering I rarely keep more than 1 of any figure (sealed booster teams I do well with get "promoted" to keep status, otherwise I don't keep duplicates). On the plus side, I could take one of those boxes and toss it out of a 2nd story window and the figures would probably come through unscathed. On the down side, I can't even consider bringing my entire collection anywhere.

For trade stock, standard cardboard trading card boxes. For constructed teams, a small compartmented utility box or a 100 count plastic card box can hold the typical 200-300 point team quite securely.

I keep my figures in Plano tackle boxes, and although they do take up a decent amount of space, I've also noticed that Plano is starting to make their boxes a little more compact. The first two sets, the first Marvel set and the first DC set, are in huge, pull-out drawer tackle boxes, but the box I have for Clobebrin' Time is smaller, and the new one I bought for XPlosion is even smaller yet, but still capable of storing the 96 figs in the set. I usually keep all of my "doubles" in a shoe box that my friends sift through to help them complete their collections. And I have one friend that is usually the recipient of all of those left-over doubles after my set is complete....he trades them for Mage Knight and/or HC figs to complete his sets. No sense in me hanging onto them if I'm not going to get any use out of them, since my set is complete before I give them away.

Personally, I'm using a Games Workshop figure case, and a plastic bag with extras and "trash" figures. The GW case holds 108 lead figs, but with some Clix being too big to fit (Mr Fan, or Braniac 13 and his base since they don't fit together), it's prolly closer to 90-95 figs in it. And the top row of the top tray is my 300 pt Marvel team, while the bottom 4 slots hold my dice and clix ring, Barrier counters, Smoke and Special counters, and terain counters and markers, respectively.

By the way, the newest Plano tackle box that I picked up is model number 1155-1, which is perfect for a 96 figure set, and quite compact. You can see this box at http://www.planomolding.com. It is under the tackle boxes heading, then under the "Specialty Boxes" sub-heading.

I use the larger Shimano bag. It holds all three of the sets and my extras. With some planning I think I can get Xplosion in there as well

I have

2 Full set of IC
Full set of HT
Full set of CT

I am trading for a Author Curry Friday to get all the LEs from HT
For IC I am missing Creed, Philip Masters, Knuckles, Tia Senyaka, Ned Leeds

For CT I am missing Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, Clint Barton, Blastaar of Baldur, Laura Brown, Agent Beaulieu, Dominic Petros, Fred Dukes, Paibok, Rachal Van Helsing, Felicia Hardy, Mortimer Toynbee, Elecktra Nachios, Natashia Romanoff

So I have a way to go on the CT but that is a lot of figs.

I really want to be able to have the full sets with all the LE's someday. God...it looks like I really just have to focus on the LE's and promos first since I think that they will be harder to find years down the road. I really love this game though. Right now I think I have about 150 figs and about 30 uniques.

OKAY, OKAY, OKAY!!

So, most of you have about 5x to 10x more clix than I do...

I'll take one for the team - any pieces that you want to get rid of, send them to me - esp. the LEs and Uniques - I haven't pulled one of them, yet, and their value WILL eventually go down... :P

No no, don't thank me - I'm just trying to be friendly :D

Muddge13, Mr Fixit is in CT not IC so this is probably why you don't have him, you're buying the wrong boxes.
I have 2 complete sets of each of the three series so far, one to collect and 1 to play. My wife on occasion will play me and then we pull out the collector set for her. I bought a cheap pantry shelf w/ doors and ajustable shelves for the collectors versions and for the players, bait boxes w/ adjustable shelves work great for about 4 dollars a piece and a cheap duffel bag to carry them around with. As to the count, about 1300 to 1500 would be an extimate.

Lemme see here...... 374 Marvel... 148 DC... 522 total. Got 1 big tackle box for all my regular non-generics, 1 small compartmented tackle box for my thugs/lackeys/henchmen/ SHIELD/Skrulls/PD/Checkmates, etc, and another one of the same for all my dupes.

Need more storage for my plastic crack!
