Besides Ben138, am I the only one who plays it and heroclixs on here?

I was looking into getting some disc golf inspired dice made and didn't know if anyone was interested in that along with talking about disc golf here.

Ace!/Pic of basket

So where and what do you play?

I've been playing disc golf for about 14 years - some years up to 10-15 times, other years not at all unfortunately. I love it, and your dice idea is pretty cool.

What kind of disc do you you use?

I should have posted mine.

Driver: Discraft Stalker(Dyed Cap shield)
Mid range: Innova Leapard
Putter: Rhino(Dyed red, but I don't know what to put on it.)

and if interested in dice then pm me. I'm trying to get 5 people for an order.

I'd like a set.

Disc golf rules!

I picked up a "Classic Roc" at Pluto's, I was really impressed with how it throws.

The millenium Sirius LS on the other hand,..urgh.

I mainly use a Innova Star Shark for drives and Innova Star Aviar for putting, I am too decrepit to get anything out of the high speed drivers, (Wraiths, Valkyries, ect...)

I play when I get a chance. I've played off and on since right out of high school, so like 10 years. I have a couple buddies who have played longer, and are real, real good. I'm just average I guess. I used to go like 3-4 times a week in the summer, I didn't even go last year. I haven't made it out this year yet either.

I've gotten 3 aces in my life. Those are the best, you just feel it right when you release the throw that it's going in. I don't drive real far, but my mid-range/long putts save me constantly.

My fav disc has always been the LS Polaris. I don't use a putter or mid range disc, just straight up LS Polaris. Sometimes I've used a JLS too. Those are sweet.

Man, speaking of which I'm going soon now hahahaha. We have like 5 courses in my area, 3 of which are all within 15 minutes driving of each other. Nothing like hitting up all 3 on one day. But gone are those days for me - stupid work.

I've bought discs that were tye-dyed. My one buddy who only uses JLS, and is really good at playing, will only use the tye-dyed ones. He says they just seem to throw differently for him.

I've never heard of dying your own ones. That's pretty tight. I just have my white Polaris. I find it's easiest to find in the woods, and if I find a disc I like I stick with it till it gets cut up too bad.

You should be able to learn pretty quick then. It takes some time to really learn how to throw a disc, they are much different then a regular frisbee. But generally I think if you can throw a regular one it should take less time to figure out how to throw a disc.

The best part about it is you are outside, walking around, and spending time with friends. A lot of disc golf players used to get categorized as pot head hippies, but it's grown a lot the last decade. At least around my area. Which sucks because you go and try and play on a Saturday and you actually find yourself waiting for other groups.

I've played disc golf for a couple of years now. My cousin introduced me to it a few years back. Unfortunately, I have nothing but time to do it right now being unemployed, but the weather in Central Illinois sucks and it rains just frequently enough to make the courses nearby nearly unplayable.

I have since gotten several friends into it and my Wife plays as well. She also plays Heroclix and is on hcrealms as Dngergrrl for anybody who is not familiar with her.

I own several drivers and mid-range discs. My crown jewel is a dyed Green Lantern Logo disc. It was a Christmas present from the Wife and I was told that if it ever goes into the water (as several of my discs have gone in a lake on one of the courses) that I would be going in after it until it was retrieved. :p

That's what younger brothers are for. Last time I threw one in the water he took his shoes and socks off and waded into the water and felt around with his feet to see if he could feel anything smooth. He found my disc and about 10 others. It was his first or second time out playing. He's never had to buy a disc and now owns about 20 of them due to subsequent trips into the water.

So where and what do you play?

When I was still in the US I used to play regularly. I got started in jr. high/high school in Virginia with a plain old frisbee in the early 90s.

I usually carry 2-3 Drivers, Mid Range, and Putters (like to have enough to kit 2-3 other players out with as I'm often kitting out friends when we play). I've even custom dyed some of my discs (a few of which have been lost :(); Golden Age Superman symbol, Tron disc (lost, this is the one I miss the most), a viking longboat, and a few others.

My favorite disc though is my Captain America shield driver (not my dye job). Never use it unless I have a clear field to throw it (to hard to replace), but it flies forever and straight as an arrow. Easily my longest range disc (almost holed in one a few long par 3s with it, chinking the basket chain, and have put it in the basket from about 250 ft out, even if only once).

ben138

that's how many I carry lately.

2 drivers(Nuke, Orion LS)
mid (Star Shark)
putter (Star Aviar)
a cheapy sort of hybrid of putter/mid ("classic" roc)

I'd like to roll with 3 but i fear i'd lose one and not have a spare.

Dying discs is really easy, it's just messy and time consuming.

I use:

laminate with a sticky side
accetate/accetone
Rit dye
colored ink

Design your disc and set it as a pattern on the laminate. Cut out the laminate as needed and place on the disc, sticky side down. Lay the disc out in the sun with some hot water in the bottom so that it heats up/softens the disc up (usually 1-2 hours). Mix the Rit dye with accetone and the proper colored ink and paint into the template after the disc is soft.

Alternatively you can fill the bottom of the disc with some water and nuke it in a microwave to heat it up and soften it.

I mix in ink with the Rit dye, as the Rit dye itself will be very weak without it.

You can get more complex as you learn (for my superman disc I had a yellow disc, and setup the red S with one inner cutout, and dyed the outside of the shield blue, or my tron disc was a light blue disc I had concentric rings cut out that I dyed a really dark blue, or my viking disc has shield down the longboat in different colors/different layers of laminate removed with a striped sail, and the main boat itself was a thick line cutout that I dyed).

I was looking for a new disc that caters to a person such as myself who throws hammer style, and bought one about 2 weeks ago. I tried it out the other day, but it sinks like a stone. My other worn, beat up disc goes farther when thrown this way. So I was playing around with it and was happy to discover that the new disc is great when thrown forehand (my backhand stinks if you couldn't tell). Now I have a new tee shot in my arsenal and I save my shoulder in the process. Yay for dumb luck. Time to work on my short game.
