Hi! :)

If I do energy explosion on a tough or invulnerable figure, does the slash damage come out? (on a successful roll)

Thanks

You only have to successfully hit to hit get splash damage, you dont have to inflict clicks of damage. So yea, it would still splash.

Thanks :) <-- just thinking wouldn't this be quite easy to use to get Dr. Doom off his first couple clicks?

Hi, not to contradict, but I believe that Toughness and Invulnerability DO protect you from EE. Impervious doesn't. I'm not sure about Super Senses. Can a judge weigh in on this?

When subject to Splash damage from Energy Explosion.

Invulnerabilty and Toughness will reduce damage by 2 and 1, respectively.

A figure with Super Senses will get to roll to avoid damage.

A figure with Impervious will not get to do anything. This figure will take the Splash damage if the attack roll was high enough to defeat its Defense value.

With EE you must first successfully hit the target. If you hit the target then you must see if you hit the figures in base with the target. If you have multiple targets you then see if you hit them. Once you know how many people where hit and how many times you then check for abilities like invulnerable and see how much damage each figure gets.

For a better description of how EE works see the most recent FAQ.

could a judge post here or something to make this official? I don't see why if you hit the character and do no damage that the people next to them shouldu take the splash damage. Seems like there shouldn't be any because of the fact that that person didn't take any damage meaning they weren't hit.

Actually, they do get hit. They just absorb the damage.

But, I'm not a judge, so what do I know...:ermm:

Not taking damage doesn't mean that the figure wasn't hit. As the names imply, Toughness and Invulnerability are meant to show how figures can stand up to punishment when hit. It will show up on figures who have armor or somesuch, as an attack which might kill a Thug would not hurt them as much. If Annihilus is targeted by EE and hit, he was hit, make no mistake. He's simply able to withstand the damage without any ill-effects.

Imagine tossing a grenade to Juggernaut. He catches it and it explodes. He won't take damage because he's nigh invincible, but people next to him may still be caught in the blast.

There were two questions here, I think. The first was already answered---being hit is required for EE splash damage to occur. Tsannik answered the second, as to which powers work how against that EE splash.

yeah Tsannik is a judge, forgot about that somehow. Man this will make owning up mastermind characters with invulnerability partners much easier now.

Mastermind could still work in this case i think since the master mind character coudl redirect the damage to a lesser point figure and since the toughness or invulnerable character could still absorb the damage and there by leave the mastermind character unharmed.

Mastermind can only mastermind energy explosion damage if they were one of the direct targets. If they catch splash damage from energy explosion they just have to take it.
