No. Any attack made while adjacent to an opposing figure(s) must be made against that adjacent opposing figure(s).

Does this make sense?

as per the FAQ, under Hovering:
A hovering figure that is adjacent to an opposing figure may make a ranged combat attack, but only against the adjacent figure.

Of course a grounded figure can never make Ranged Combat Action while adjacent to an opposing figure unless those opposing figures are all Hovering figures. Even then, the grounded figure can only attack those opposing figures that are adjacent.

Mind Control can be a cloase combat action so it doesn't matter.
