I saw this on boardgame geek...might be interesting.

The bits look pretty cool.

The coop and solo scenarios sounds pretty cool.

I call the dragon guy!
Seriously, this looks different enough to pique my interest.

As long as I get to be the dragon guy. :D

Then you're not looking at The Evidence Thread (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302125) for non-clix releases, are you? WHY NOT?

Speaking of which, what exactly is a "euro-style" strategy game? I'm not very well-versed in all the different board game variations out there, I must admit.

Not buying it unless I get to play an Orc. Loved playing Orcs in the old MK.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German-style_board_game

It's a bit of a vaguely defined term, but basically means game that focuses on strategy and player interaction over luck and outright competition.

Yes, Boardgamegeek.com would be a good place to learn a lot more than anyone ever needs to about what a "euro" game is. Suttkus' summary is pretty good; just offering research data for anyone interested.

You clean it less often, and it's always taking off its packaging.

American-Style generally has the strategy head-to-head and presents its self as player-vs-player tension. Perhaps a lot of mechanic but primarily everything is straight forward and use dice or simple luck mechanics to add randomness. Some good examples:

Risk
Axis and Allies
History of the World
Hammer of the Scots
War of the Ring

Where as Euro style tends to be more Traingular in tension. They also tend to use other mechanics for randomness besides just dice. They often feature card and tiles pulled from a bag. Resource Management and Work placement are also more common mechanics in Euro Games. Some good examples:

Settlers of Cattan
Carcasone
Ra
Power Grid
Seven Wonders
Agricola
Race for the Galaxy
Dungeon Lords
Dominion

One game I discovered and can manage to get family and friends (non-heroclix players all) is Cleopatra and the Society of Achitects. Everyone enjoys it.

Hmmm, looks like you can be a male human warrior, an male elven warrior, a female human enchantress (guess that's what she is) or a dragon warrior (sex unknown).

No orc, yet. I could see expansion sets a la Settlers and Talsiman....

The female appears to be from the necropolis sect.

The Draconum was formerly known as Goldyx, female.
The enchantress was previously a Moonborne Sorceress of the Dark Crusade with a named LE.
The black knight was a chase figure named Tovak Wyrmstalker.
The Elf was also a Weak, Standard, Tough generic with a named LE of the Elven Lords faction. I think the LE was one of the Starsdawn family.

Do the terrain tiles look like Heroscape character cards to anyone else?

I think the sorceress was Carlana? One of Darque's ladies?

Cool info (wasn't into Mage Knight, just before my Clix days!)

As much as i am a old school MK'er (i miss my knights and draconium armies) I wish WK/Neca the best with this product.

But it's not Mage Knight to me.

PS: Oh, Imbalance, thanks for pointing out the MKrealms. it 's nice to see some of the old gang there.

Yeah, I'm not sure what this game has to do with Mage Knight? I'll stick with the D&D board games, probably.

from what i understand, this plays like a standard boardgame, not a dungeon crawl like the D&D (or decent) boardgames, I jusT have an issue with slapping a familiar brand to a totally different product and expecting the masses to just eat it up.

This is not the same instance Hair, and you know that.
Where heroclix was revised in it's ruleset, This is nothing like EITHER Mage Knight 1.0 or 2.0.

So i have to disagree with you on that principle.

That's not what I was referencing. When you said "slapping a familiar brand to a totally different product and expecting the masses to just eat it up", I'm thinking Street Fighter, Gears of War, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, etc.

Had the game in hand at my LCBS Thursday. I was picking up my LotR purchases.

To hefty of a price tag for me for now. Maybe when income tax refunds come in nexst year...

But the box looks great...

I'd be tempted to give it a try, but I'm getting swamped lately with my game purchases. Between the many ways to buy Heroclix, the new Quarriors expansion, my comic collecting, and an unrelated new RPG campaign kicking off (that requires a few new books), there is simply no wiggle room left. My nerd budget has already gone way over the top.

My store has 2 just sitting there. At $80, they'll probably sit there for quite some time.

I picked up this game from my local venue for only $40! At that price, and since it was sold out, I figured it was worth giving it a shot. It's really fun!
