View Full Version : Thugit, Inc. Presents - The Greatest X-Man
As many before me, I have taken up the torch passed along by Thugit and his wonderful Vengeance of Bane (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305158&highlight=Bane) thread. Like Thugit and Bane, there was only one character that came to mind. My favorite character for 18 years, since I first started reading comics at the ripe old age of 6... the Greatest X-Man EVER... CYCLOPS!
#008 V Cyclops
Team: X-Men
Range: 8 :bolt:
Points: 110

Trait - THE X-LEADER: Cyclops can use Leadership. When any friendly character uses the X-Men team ability, heal 2 damage instead of 1.
Attack - CONCUSSIVE BLAST: Cyclops can use Force Blast. When he uses Force Blast after actions resolve, if his target's defense value is now 16 or less, he deals damage to his target equal to half of his d6 roll for Force Blast.
As you can see, I have chosen the recently released Cyclops from GSX. I don't think many or any would debate the quality of this version. I have also modded my sculpt to look as though Mr. Summers has lowered the cowl portion of his costume to expose his hair. Now, I have the perfect dial and perfect sculpt to follow in the footsteps of Thugit...

Challenge List:
- No One Kills the Main Man!
- Look After Their Own
My Thugit Inc. thread begins with quite the matchup: The Fear Inducing Sinestro Corps vs. the Fearless X-Men. Adding to the intensity of the match, my opponent was undefeated when using his Sinestro led Corps (7-0). Due to his record, I challenged him to a 800 point "Grudge Match". My Cyclops led X-Men vs. his Sinestro led Sin Corps. He accepted and, as they say, it was on.
Sinestro Corps:
AN Sinestro - 224
SM Manhunter Grandmaster - 172
AA Arkillo - 126
BN Scarecrow - 85
AA Manhunter x3 - 192
VS.
X-Men:
GSX Cyclops - 110
MM Professor X - 131
GSX Archangel - 99
GSX Beast - 95
GSX Storm - 86
WOS Nightcrawler - 86
GSX Emma Frost - 81
GSX Psylocke - 74 + X-Force ATA - 4
+ Shield Disruptor, Violet Lantern, Dynamostat
He won map choice and placed us on Oa, a map with an undefeated record for him. I chose the elevated starting area and the game officially began. He wasted no time and quickly moved all of his characters, aside from Sinestro, to the middle of the map on the other side of the center elevated terrain. He finished his turn by perplexing up Manhunter Grandmaster's (MG) defense to 19. I, likewise, wasted no time by perplexing up Nightcrawler's attack and TKed him over to swing on MG. I hit but was theme prob'd into a miss. I finished NC's movement next to my starting area and sent out Archangel next. He used Transporter to hit Scarecrow and eliminate his perplex. I then finished his movement tucked away near my starting area and ended my turn. He cleared and I followed suit, leaving it to him once again. He once again wasted no time by having MG run over and shoot at Prof X. He hit but I paid him back by prob'ing it into a miss. He finished a square away from Archangel, moved his Manhunters into outwit position, and moved Arkillo adjacent to MG and Archangel. He ended his turn by moving Sinestro behind the middle elevation and Scarecrow on top. I spent my next turn swinging and missing, except for a Mind Control on Arkillo but he missed both of his attacks as well. Frustrated but still optimistic, I ended my turn. He led the turn attacking Prof X with MG, hitting for 4 and moved his Manhunters into better outwit position. His second move was to charge Archangel with a dumpster and flurry. He missed the first attack after a theme prob from Psylocke and I rolled shape change on his second. He then targeted Nightcrawler but missed against his 19 defense. He pushed Sinestro to backup Arkillo and onto his 18 Impervious. With that, he ended his turn and cleared his Manhunters and Scarecrow. I began the turn with Nightcrawler pushing to grab the Shield Disruptor, bringing it in range of everyone. Then, I led the charge with Archangel pushing to attack Sinestro. I landed the hit, and Sinestro took 3. I followed up with Storm successfully attacking Arkillo and Sinestro each for 2. Finally, I pushed (Willpower was Outwitted) Cyclops to finish off Sinestro for his first KO and the first of the night. I ended my turn and cleared the rest. His turn was spent clearing and moving Scarecrow in for poison. I used my next turn to try and get rid of Scarecrow to no avail and clearing those that attacked the turn before. He used his next turn dealing vengeance to my team for the defeat of Sinestro. He began by hitting Archangel for 3 with Arkillo and then Beast for 4 with MG. I began by taking out a Manhunter with Nightcrawler and, taking advantage of Archangel's trait, I hit Arkillo for 4 and healed for 1 with Steal Energy. I then used Cyclops to finish him off (hit prob'd into Crit), gaining his second KO. I took out Scarecrow with Storm and Emma and then cleared the rest. He used his next turn to attacked Cyclops with MG for 4 and then moved his Manhunters to tie up and outwit. My next turn was spent healing and clearing. He spend his turn clearing as well. I again used my turn to heal and clear once removing the remaining Manhunters from the map. He used his turn to attack Cyclops but missed his roll. With no figures left, his turn was over. I perplexed up Cyclops' attack and hit MG for 3. I used Beast to tie him up and outwitted his Running Shot. He attacked Beast hitting him for 3 that stuck due to a missed SS roll, gaining his first KO. After that, I had Archangel hit MG to his Regen Click and finished him off with Cyclops for his 3rd KO of the night and ending the match.

I declare MISREPRESENTATION! Cyclops is NOT the best X-Man...
But otherwise good stuff. I love that Cyclops as well, he is a very solid piece, but I only ever use him on X-Factor teams.
Honestly the only X-Teams I player are X-Factor and X-Force.
Looking forward to more.

Cool, a new thugit inc. Member. How did I miss that.
I was slightly confused since somone else had Wolverine. Even more so when I saw your avatar, but to each his own. Just look at his girlfriends. Atleast when Slim's girl dies, she comes back.
I dare you to beat Bucky's record, though. He will be returning soon, with a vengeance.
I wanted to begin by extending a very special "Thank You!" to everyone who has taken the time to support my thread in all forms from comments to simply viewership. I apologize for the layout of my synopsis. I am working to improve the editing but I appreciate your effort regardless. I hope you all will continue to subscribe and support my attempt to meet Thugit's Challenge.
Speaking of challenges, I began this thread not just as an homage but as a response to Thugit / Bane's Challenge. I am also accepting any and all other challenges. With that said, however, I do have ONE caveat. The Challenge must have a metric to meet or, in other words, an achievable and comparable goal. For instance, you cannot simply challenge Cyclops and I to have more KO's than you. With the varying schedules and lifestyles of each individual, I would not be able to accept such a challenge. I would ask they take the form of more attainable and measurable goals. For example, one may challenge Cyclops to KO someone twice his point cost but the figure may only take damage from Cyclops himself. Any challenge given to me, may also be undertaken by yourself with a figure of your choosing, for honor of course. I will keep a running list of all the challenges given to me in my opening post then as I complete them, I will mark them as "Accomplished". To keep this fun, I will also issue a challenge to you in the same spirit of your own. I will post a template to apply for a challenge below this post.
Lastly, if you look to my first post, you will notice several changes. I have added a "Statistics" portion below my "Record" this is something I took from a couple other threads and tried to make it my own. I have also added a couple other metrics to my "Record" that I thought would be interesting to keep track of, including "KO'd By" to keep track of who I need vengeance upon.

Title of the Challenge: (Self explanatory)

Challenger's Champion: (Your Champion, basically your "Cyclops")
Description of the Challenge: (Enter any specific details pertaining to the challenge. Any loop holes may be exploited otherwise)
Allow me to begin by providing some insight into our venue. One member of our group owns a fencing studio and he allows us to use his space on Friday nights to host tournaments every other week. We don't do prize support because the owner of the local comic shop gives it to his employees who also play in our group. Due to that, most of our tournaments are designed with fun or odd themes. This particular tournament on the 28th had a very interesting theme, you were instructed to pick a song, any song, and build a 400 point team around it. Now, this was intentionally vague as to not stifle creativity. So, since I am honor bound to play Cyclops, I was left in an interesting and unique position. After tossing around several ideas in my head, I settled on "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart. To round out my team I chose the first two that came to mind, SM Superboy and SM Eradicator. I then used our handy dandy Units Section to find Gotham City Detective for my final piece. I chose a back-up song of "Hard Knock Life" from the musical Annie. The team for that song was Cyclops along with CA Steve Rogers and GSX Magneto. To better explain the connection, for those who don't get it, Magneto was orphaned at a young age during the Holocaust. Steve Rogers orphaned as a teenager during the Great Depression. Finally, Cyclops was orphaned at a young age, separated from his younger brother, and "tortured" and bullied at his orphanage by Mr. Sinister. I chose the "Sunglasses" team as my primary team was due to Eradicator's high attack potential + SS & SC. He can also heal to some of his very deadly clix with Regen and Steal Energy. Magneto has no such aid, so if he gets hit and gets hit hard, its over for him. I also like the addition of GCD's Enhancement and PD ability and Superboy's Perplex.
So, with my teams set, I was ready to rock. It turns out, however, many of the gang were not... It might have been due to Game 7 of the World Series or Halloween being around the corner, but there was only 4 of us total on that night. While I prefer more (I view Clix as a social event as much as a competitive event), I was still ready to roll.
Match 1 - Song: "Kung Fu Fighting"
The team was an abundance of Martial Artists. To name a few: Shang Chi, Karnak, AA Question, Iron Fist, Karate Kid, and Old School Moondragon. We played in Arkham Asylum and the game started with him moving Question to outwit Eradicator's RS, I used TK to get a shot but hit her back to her Outwit. Cyclops hit Karnak who hit SS. After that he bum rushed me, slowly whittling away Cyclops with Shang Chi and Karnak but Cyclops was able to take Shang Chi with him. Karate Kid crit hit Eradicator down his dial and then had Moondragon Mind Control Superboy into finishing him off. After that, time was called and the game was over.

KO's: AV Shang Chi
Match 2 - Song: "Particle Man"
The song, while weird, made for a fun team: CA MODOK, Marcus Fenix, Cammy (80 pts), and the Atom. We played on the inside portion of the SHIELD Hellicarrier. He overextended Marcus, allowing me to 2 shot him with Eradicator and then Cyclops for the KO. Eradicator missed his opening shot against MODOK and then proceeded to miss both SC and SS against MODOK's return fire. From there, key positioning and some lucky rolls allowed me to take down Cammy while only losing GCD and Cyclops. Eradicator got to his HSS and Superboy was on his CCE. MODOK had little chance to last but time was called and I barely squeaked out the win.
Results: Win
KO's: GoW Marcus Fenix
Match 3 - Song: "It's Not Easy Being Green"
This team was GLFF Sinestro, GLFF Green Lantern, CR Green Arrow, and JL Green Arrow. We took to battle in the Arena, a place where I was at a significant disadvantage due to his TK and superior range. I tried to position for a good first strike in the corner hindering. It worked but unfortunately, I missed my attack with opening attack with Cyclops. But I hit with Eradicator. But then my big hitters were left wide opening for his return salvo. He missed Eradicator but hit Cyclops hard, knocking him down a bit. The next turn Eradicator missed against Sinestro, pushing off his top click. Cyclops, however, finished off Green Arrow. After that it went down hill... Eradicator missed all his SS rolls until he went down, Superboy couldn't stand up against Sinestro in close, and Cyclops was crippled already. I was destroyed and the game was over.
Results: Loss
KO's: CR Green Arrow
Completely wiped, I challenged my friend (Universe Man) to another game after the tournament. This time, however, I used my "Hard Knock Life" team.
Match 4 - Song: "Final Countdown"
This team was V Starfire, SM Lobo, BB Mister Miracle / Oberon. The long and short of this match was Magneto got within Charge+BCF range of Lobo and got torn apart. Then Cyclops and Steve got tied up by MM/O and then slowly torn apart by Lobo. It was a stupid game that I played out of desperation from my losses before.

Tournament Analysis
This tournament, while having a fun and unique theme, was an overall learning experience as I move forward with this thread and my HeroClix career. Most of the lessons are Cyclops focused, like when to use Concussive Blast and when to push or not, but the biggest in scope and impact is the understanding that "If you cannot roll a 5 or better on average, you aren't going to win the game". I've always known rolls are king in this game but in the past, I have been able to outplay my opponent and not allow rolls to dictate as much as they had in this tournament. It's a frustrating lesson to learn now as I go through this journey, but valuable nonetheless. The other big lesson that was engrained painfully into my mind is that Cyclops is only truly valuable when he can heal. In this tournament, with these teams, he wasn't able to do that so his par defense and short dial made him very difficult to use effectively.
In the end, I had an alright time. Mostly, I am frustrated at myself for playing that 4th match instead of calling it quits... But that's life, you win some, you lose a lot... Part of my wishes more people had been there to ease the pain of losses with the salve of socializing. Thankfully, in HeroClix, there is always a next time.

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER
Title of Challenge: Look After Their Own
Date of Challenge: 10/30/2011
Description of the Challenge: Cyclops must be healed from his last click to his first click through the X-Men team ability.
After my poor showing on the 28th, I was once again itchin' for my Clix Fix. With that in mind, there was only one person who could help settle me down... My rival, JPT. We always have great matches against each other and this has led to a healthy rivalry and several "Grudge Matches". Due to that, I am now introducing a new section of my stats in order to properly document these epic battles.
This would be Cyclop's second Grudge Match against JPT, the first being Sinestro Corps. JPT was out for blood and there was no character to better lead his charge for vengeance than the Unstoppable Lobo and his Justice League.
Justice League International:
BB Martian Manhunter - 202
SM Lobo - 169
BB Fire & Ice - 131
DC75 Guy Gardner - 120
BB Booster Gold & Blue Beetle - 82
+ Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, Laser Turret, Kinetic Absorber
VS.
X-Men:
GSX Cyclops - 110
MM Professor X - 131
GSX Archangel - 99
GSX Beast - 95
WOS Nightcrawler - 86
GSX Emma Frost - 81
GSX Psylocke - 74
+ Shield Disruptor, Yellow Lantern, Heavy Object
Recently, in a trade with Curious Lurker, I acquired two new custom maps and my opponent and I decided to use one of these maps for our match. We rolled off with JPT winning and choosing the Strip Club. I chose the inside and set up my team. He began by carrying his Lobo with Guy over to the Gem and moving his MM just outside of the Club. Once it was my turn, I TK'd Nightcrawler over, Perplexed up his attack and went for Martian who hit is Shape Change. I then retreated back to the Shield Disruptor, moved Beast in for backup, and ended my turn. He rolled for the Gem with Lobo and missed. He cleared Martian and ended his turn. I tried for Manhunter with NC again and he rolled his SC again. I moved Beast in to Outwit his HSS and Archangel uses Transporter to go for Guy but he missed. On his turn, he pressed the attack. He moved Guy, Martian, and Lobo into the private room that Archangel had taken refuge in. Fire / Ice crippled Beast and the rest of his team clears. Next turn I TK'd Cyclops in to help Archangel breakaway. He succeeds and shoots Lobo for 3 with Running Shot+ Psy Blast. Cyclops follows up by attacking Martian who AGAIN rolls his Shape Change. I clear Beast and NC and end my turn. He brings Lobo out and destroys the Shield Disruptor, brings Fire and Ice inside along with Blue + Gold. Guy moves over to tie up and Martian clears. The rest of the match is a bit of a blur of attacks, misses, hits, frustration, elation, chaos, and joy. In the end, it was left to a crippled Prof X and Emma against a very healthy Martian Manhunter. Ultimately, they couldn't hang on very long and dropped to him in a couple turns.
Overall, I found the game was exactly what I needed. A great match against a great player. I felt (at the time) that I played very well and was simply beaten. Looking back, I still feel as though the better man won the night, but there were a couple errors I made (Timing of Outwits / Perplex) that may or may not have made a difference. JPT played really well, and even though I killed his Lobo, he won the battle. Martian Manhunter is a very good piece if he has the opportunity to play second fiddle in the fight. If he draws a lot of attention, SC can only keep him safe for so long. Lobo is annoying to say the least, but this was not my first time coming to that realization. So, even though I loss, I had a great time and I needed that much more than a "W".

I love it. Ole' "Slim" Summers is my favorite X-Man as well. The people at my venue play Slim enough that he's become an instant target most games he's played in because if you don't take him out hard and fast, he'll come back to ruin you.
Favorite Cyclops in game moment: Back during the GSX sealed games, Scott had taken the Madripoor rooftop. He was on his force blast SP/willpower click. First turn he force blasted Madrox off the roof, dealing him damage from the SP and falling damage, KOing him. My opponent then moves Wolverine up into a Cyclops grill thanks to charge but crit misses his attack. Next turn Cyclops forceblasted Wolverine off of the roof too, KOing him as well.

Yes, one thing I have been very happy about with this Cyclops is that when played with X-Men, he is very difficult to take down. Personally, I wish he was able to stand alone better. He has done very well on his own in the past and I wished that was captured a little better here.
At my venue, though, no one but me has every really played him. We don't play for Prize Support, so there is no real need to ever play to win other than personal motivations. Due to that, no one really every plays the power pieces in Clix more than once in a while.

That is a great moment, one I hope to some day have as my own. I have always loved Force Blast and it is one of my favorite powers in the game. So I try and use his SP any and every chance I get. Thus far, however, it hasn't been too effective. I really hope to Concussive Blast someone off a rooftop soon.
Wow, it has been almost 2 months since I last update my thread.... Quite sad. But I am back with a Vengeance (pun intended) and I plan on updating this will all the K.O.-ey goodness you have missed.
Please bear with me as I struggle through my memory banks to try and recollect all of the nuanced details of this day. Unfortunately, due to all the days that have passed, I will be unable to provide the play by play you may come to expect. I will do my best, however, to provide a good summary.
